I understand that to some degree my straight hair makes it a challenge, but I've had bangs many times before but never anything like this. Lastly, I was left with all the loose hair on my face and eyes. At any other salon I've been to, the stylists would usually dust my face off as a courtesy at the end. I paid almost $35 for this and left feeling incredibly disappointed.

If you are in the Kailua area, beauty by Sommer is a must, go to place for all your beauty needs! I like the fact that she goes to you! I didn't need to drive anywhere! All she needed was a table and a chair, she had everything else ready to go. It was so convenient! Her prices....unbeatable!!! I needed to get my hair done for a wedding, I wanted an updo. My hair is long, by my hips, so I know that it would be pricey to get it done. I called around in the Kailua area, and the prices were very high. On top of that there was a waiting list and I needed to drive to those places. Sommer's prices was the cheapest and she comes to you! Don't take the pricing the wrong way, just because her pricing is reasonable, does NOT mean her work is cheap, because her work was incredible! I loved it! My niece got her hair done as well, but it was braided, and she loved it! Besides her great price and work, her personality is amazing as well, she really makes sure that you are comfortable. Making an appointment was painless; I gave her a call to chat about her rates and availability before my arrival in Hawaii for vacation and she was very informative and helpful. Sommer sat down with me and did a full consultation before we started. I've had lashes done before, in a salon, and haven't had such care taken with me. She even left me with an information package, showing me the styles and fullness she offers, and what she did on me that day. I love that she came to my house, that was fantastic, and she brought the biggest array of lashes I've ever seen. She used the comfortable pads beneath my eyes, not tape, but also used small strips of tape to lift my heavy lids out of the way. I thought that was brilliant. It was comfortable and she was very patient. She also offered several strengths of glue, depending on my sensitivity, and she carries a lash sealer for people who spend a lot of time in the sun (it protects against UV light which breaks down the glue). Sommer is GREAT! Having went to cosmetology school I'm generally very picky about where I go, watching,& judging the stylists every move & also being a totally germ-a-phob, as soon as I meet Sommer & she started going over the procedure with me I felt really comfortable! She knows what she's doing & takes her time to explain everything. I went for my lashes & she took time to tell me what would look/work best instead of trying to sell me on the most expensive set. She also works from her house which I think is wayyyy better than going to a salon. In December Sommer removed my Mall applied permanent lashes, because I got an infection. Two weeks later wanting to give these lashes one more try I had Sommer put the eye lash extensions on. The first 2 months it was trial by error, getting them filled two, three, four weeks. Then Sommer decided it is best for me to fill my lashes every 2 weeks, since my job/life style is tough on my lashes. We worked out a fill program that works for her and I and at an extremely reasonable price. Sommer is awesome, she takes pride in her work, she is a perfectionists. If you are thinking about eyelash extensions call Sommer, if you already have extensions give her a try. I promise my lash lady is better than yours. BTW my lashes are bomb. My friend chose Sommer to do hair and make up for our daughter's Senior Prom. Although we live in Kailua, Sommer came to the hotel in Waikiki. She came on time and did an awesome job on both girls. I was able to set a makeup and hair trial session 6 days before my big day. I was set up with the amazing Moana! I am a person who does not wear makeup a lot nor has great makeup skills lol. So I will admit, I was nervous. I mean, I had my share of experiences from Sephora and I was not always satisfied. So yes, I was skeptic. BUT...Moana did an amazing job with my hair and makeup trial! We were looking to book Heather, the owner of the business, and were given 2 options - a standard package to book with the team or the more expensive LUX package to lock down Heather. For the standard package, they said Heather was available, scheduled herself for our wedding, and it's rare that another bride will book LUX package on the same day and cause Heather to move off. So, we felt comfortable to go with the first option thinking they would communicate if anything changes. Nothing changed for almost a year - until the week before the wedding. We were notified that another bride is interested in Heather, but nothing was confirmed so we could still upgrade the package. We were in the middle of work meetings, panicked, and decided that we would! It's the week before the wedding and we would throw money at any stability as we knew nothing about the other artist. We took out our credit card and our heart sank when we saw "Ok so we just got booked for a LUX from the other bride for this day". They didn't tell us this was a race!? We were given only 34 minutes to decide!? We thought they'd at least have the courtesy to wait for the initial client to make decisions. Sure it's not *illegal* but it's definitely unkind for Delish to pit 2 brides against each other the week before the wedding. Our wedding coordinator suggested to Heather that she should call us. We heard nothing, waited, and only got text messages 2 days later that they would make it up to us by doing the trial at our hotel instead of their studio. Then, they charged us $30 for parking tickets, which we would not have agreed to if we knew about it. We also requested to see the artist's portfolio to get over the feeling that I was going with a fallback option. It took 4 days for Heather to say "Sorry, completely forgot to send those over". 2-4 days is not a long time in a non-wedding settings, but keep in mind that this was 1 week before the wedding. That was 4 days of me crying convinced I was not going to look my best at my wedding. We considered not tipping with all the stress they put us through but we decided that the makeup artist is not a part of the admin team, so we still did. In the end, the artist was nice but the tears and nightmare they put us through was not worth it.

What appealed to me and my matron of honor (who was also scouting out vendors for me!) was that Dorys made her subjects look pretty yet natural. Plus, I was intrigued with the whole "airbrush" deal. I had no idea you could airbrush people in addition to pictures! I am glad that I agreed to do a run through session with Dorys a couple of days before the wedding. Per her request, I gave her some pictures of hair and make up styles that I liked and she did a great job replicating the styles on me! What I liked about Dorys and doing the run through was that she wanted me to be totally comfortable with how I looked. When I told her I wasn't too sure about the lipstick color, she changed it to a more berry shade and I was super happy! (Little things like that matter, you know?) I loved how the airbrushing turned out, how she did my eyes (I've got the weird predicament of having eyelids but very Asian slanted-eyes so a lot of artists don't really know what to do with me.) Something important to mention - after I left my run through my appointment, my fiance and I went to check in to the hotel where we would be married. I noticed that the curls in my hair fell flat right away. I was very worried that this would happen the day of my wedding. My hair is fickle and will sometimes refuse to hold a curl for the life of me. I emailed Dorys to let her know what happened and that I felt more comfortable curling my own hair and then have her style it. Dorys' assistant emailed me back that it wouldn't be a problem. The day of the wedding, Dorys was on point. While she did arrive 15 minutes late (which can feel like an hour for an anxious bride!) she quickly did my Maid of Honor's hair and then went to work on me. I had curled my hair before she came but left the styling to her. Ever the professional, she told me she understoond my worries about the curls not holding with the hairspray she used the other day. But looking at me, all she saw were flyaways. Would I reconsider using hairspray if it was aerosol? I told her that if she thought it was best, go for it. So she did and my curls lasted the entire time!!! Dorys also finished a little bit early so there was plenty of cushion time to go from the room to the ceremony location for pre-wedding pictures. I am so glad that I decided to splurge on having someone else do my hair and make up because it was something I didn't have to worry about. And because I did have a run through with Dorys, I knew exactly what she was planning to do and how it would turn out. I highly recommend Dorys to anyone that wants to have a professional take care of her hair and make up on her big day. Not only do you not have to worry about how you look but you will also feel really good about how you look for your pictures! PS: I advise you to use your own lipstick for touch ups during your wedding day. The gloss Dorys gives is great but doesn't add as much color as your trusty lipstick. Stayed on perfectly and my skin looked flawless. I wasn't uber impressed by my eyelashes. I actually brought my own with me (which I was charged extra for...understandable since they had their own there but theirs weren't very good). When I got a chance to look at them when we were done with our one and a half worth of wedding & photosession, one eyelash was so loose it was coming off in the inner corner. I think they could have been WAY closer to the lash line. Makeup-wise, other than the unimpressive lash job was great! After the run-through session I talked to her about what I would change, emphasize a little more, etc. She listened. Did a beautiful eyemakeup job and the airbrushing really did look incredible. My hair turned out GORGEOUS. In fact, it was so relieved I went to her. I had always envisioned my hair would be a few inches longer when I got married but the wedding came up quickly and my hair wasn't there. When I mentioned this to Dorys, she offered extensions! I had my hair done the week before the wedding and met up with her to match the extensions. I was a little nervous about the extensions since we didn't do the run-through with them but she matched them perfectly and my hair ended up looking just like I'd imagined- length and all. And I got to keep them to use afterwards! I had to buy toupee clips to sew on to reuse them but I honestly still use them to this day (they're real hair and easy to clip in). Well worth the money to have someone match them up for me. Dorys was really awesome and very professional. Since we just had a little wedding on the beach nearby, Dorys was nice enough to let the videographer come in and spend time shooting me during (getting in her way a little bit) as well as letting us hang out a little bit afterwards on a Sunday afternoon to let us get some great shots. Her studio is really cute and airy and looked great on camera. Very laid back. I would definitely recommend Dorys! Also perfect for getting married on Waialae beach (in front of Kahala hotel)- super close by. Only took about 5 min to get there. :)

Where do I begin! I have too many wonderful things to say about Laurena (and Sheri--see the third…read moreparagraph), so I think a little background story is in order, so you can truly get a full picture of how amazing she is and why I 100% recommend that you trust her with all of your bridal hair/makeup needs! My husband and I were married last Friday 10/26/18 (woo hoo!) and several months prior to the wedding, I had booked with a different hair/makeup vendor. I grew up in Hawai'i, but now live in California so I could not plan a hair/makeup trial in advance. Four days before our wedding, I had my hair/makeup trial and the results unfortunately were lackluster. Even my family and friends urged me to cancel services and agreed that I would be better off doing my hair and makeup myself. You can imagine how stressed out I quickly became! Thankfully, this makeup/hair vendor was very gracious and understanding in allowing me to cancel with such short notice however, my next big worry was how would I do my own makeup/hair (I am terrible at this!) and would it be possible to find someone with only FOUR days until the BIG day?! With all the other details of the wedding I still had to do, this was the last thing I wanted to have to worry about... The next day, after several unsuccessful attempts at finding hair/makeup artists available, I drove to Nordstrom at Ala Moana and walked into the makeup section, head down and spirits low, and hoping to find someone to help me find makeup that I could use to do it myself =/ Then I met SHERI who instantly brightened my day with her infectious personality and sincere interest in helping me any way that she could! I told her the situation, showed her pictures of my bridal trial, and not only did she make wonderful recommendations for makeup, she immediately called LAURENA, told her the situation, and provided me Laurena's website/contact information. After leaving Nordstrom, I quickly filled out Laurena's questionnaire on her website (it reviews types of services requested, you can even upload pictures of your desired hair/makeup looks). She responded to my questions within minutes and even requested pictures of my bridal trial so that she knew what to avoid, which I greatly appreciated. She reviewed my questionnaire instantly and to my surprise she was available!!! She literally sent me an invoice and contract that same day! I had to make a few changes to the services (as a few bridesmaids made changes to the type of service they wanted) and she quickly sent over the updated versions within minutes. With Laurena's user friendly website, her quick and friendly responses to my questions, and taking the time to review pictures of what I did and did NOT want, I was reassured instantly that I would be taken care of throughout the booking process and on the BIG DAY! A HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders because from this moment-- all of my worries just melted away. Friday, our wedding day came in the blink of an eye and Laurena showed up to the estate in Hauula (which is far and she had no problem traveling here!) with to my surprise, SHERI!! They quickly came inside and got to work on our makeup and hair. What I loved about Laurena is that she made professional recommendations on the pictures of possible bridal looks I sent to her (I am clueless when it comes to makeup!). She pointed out that the picture I sent was beautiful but the eye shadow was a bit too simple and she wanted to make sure my makeup was still natural but had that WOW 'I'm a bride!' factor. Without hesitation I said yes to all of the above and the result -STUNNING makeup and hair that I have always pictured having on my wedding day and MORE. This is not an exaggeration, once I have pictures from my friends and photographer I will upload them asap! The way she did my makeup, she brought out my features in the most beautiful way and she curled my hair in a way that had that 'Victoria Secret-esque' voluminous curls I've always wanted. I also wanted the left side of my hair above my ear pinned and detailed with white orchids and she did this exactly how I wanted. Sheri also did an absolutely amazing job on my bridesmaids! They also were so in love with how she did their makeup and hair. Phew! That was long! But a short review would not have done Laurena justice. All in all, she was extremely friendly, professional, attentive, responsive to my questions, and so incredibly talented. I don't wear makeup or do my hair often but wanted to make sure that on my Wedding day everything would be flawless, and I can confidently say that her services exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Upon entering I wasn't greeted. There was a girl sitting just on her phone. I said "hey" and she said "oh you can have a seat, Lexy should be in soon." And thats it. Lexy comes in rushing. She is also late. I booked my appointment 10:55am and it was pushed back 11:10am. Because she was late. I was also notified at 10:33am for her running late. I was already in the area. Because if you read their cancellation and late policy they can be VERY STRICT about it. Which I found funny because my first time booking. THEY ARE LATE. I was a little disappointed because I started work at 1:30pm. Pushing it back even 20mins I know I would be in a time crunch. But whatever... I didn't wanna cancel because THEY were late and be charged 100% for a service. Which is also one of their policies. This is one of their other policies.... -GRACE PERIOD IS 9 MINUTES, AT 10 MINUTES THERE IS A $10 LATE FEE, AFTER 15 MIN IT WILL RESULT IN THE FORFEITURE OF THE ENTIRE APPOINTMENT AND WILL BE CHARGED 100% OF THE SERVICE BOOKED. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. Lol. Anyway, for what I paid $200 something for lashes. Volume lashes that was half filled not to mention half bald. NOT WORTH IT. My whole appointment was quiet. Lexy didn't say one word to me. Except for how long. And I told her long. And that was the last time I ever heard her talk to me until she was done. I finished about 1:40pm ish. After my appointment I went straight to work, I was running late. And I had a few comments on how "natural" my lashes was. THEY ARE VOLUME I PAID $200 something for VOLUME!!! I called and went back the next day for a mini fill because those lashes were not volume nor were they filled. I left with not much of a difference. Laid there for another 3 hours for my lashes to NOT look full. I couldn't believe how bald they still were. My natural lashes on our outer eye and inner eye weren't filled. They went thicker on the lashes which made a slight difference but still not that much. My wispy strip lashes that I buy for $5 have more volume than the $200 volume lash extensions I paid them for here. I wish I loved it here because of the convenience of the location, price wasn't an issue. Quality was just not worth the price!

I always look forward to seeing her! She pays attention to my concerns, and always makes me feel welcomed at every visit. As a makeup artist, I always worry about my lashes falling out so quickly, but thanks to Celine, they hold for 3 weeks at a time without them looking crazy! Booking online for appointments have been so easy, I have never had an issue, which most people can appreciate. If you know exactly what you want, the staff is more than welcome to help achieve that! Other than that, location is prime, with the advantage of so much parking, can't go wrong with that!

My nails are my favorite that I've ever had and if this nail tech was here permanently- I would book regularly!! First off, there's free parking and a lot of it! Beauty Mark is located on the second floor, in the same building as Fujiyama Texas. The building has a lot of... character, to say the least. It may not be polished on the outside but the inside of Beauty Mark felt bright, clean, and comfortable. There is a ton of natural light that makes the ambiance really nice. The bathrooms is a single room, but very clean. Since this spot isn't usually a nail salon, I was the only one getting my nails done in their waiting room area. There was ample space for me, my nail artist + all her supplies, and my stuff. They played local/ Hawaiian music at a nice volume, loud enough to hear but at a volume where you can talk freely without an issue of hearing the other person. I'm not a typical customer of this establishment since I don't get permanent makeup etc. done but I did really enjoy my time getting my nails done here! If Noelle the nail artist does another pop-up here- I would book again in a heartbeat!

I am not one that takes an hour or so to get ready. However, as I get older, I know I need to take better care of my skin but I don't have the patience. Last year, I decided to microblade my brows because I didn't want the tattooed look like my sister (sorry, Kalei). However, it didn't last long despite my brows getting touched-up twice shortly after. I still had to apply brow shadow. Since last September 2016, I started Crossfit and in July of this year, I began powerlifting. Some days, I don't care if I have makeup and some days I'm coming in straight from the office to train with my mascara (WATER-PROOF) smearing under my eyes, which I wanted to something about it (yes, I'm vain). This is where CJ comes in. I remembered her from the 2017 Crossfit Open and noticed that she is a makeup artist because she helped one of the ladies at Arkaios Crossfit with her makeup for a bodybuilding competition! I started stalking her stylist page on IG and her personal account because I admired her makeup and lash extensions (that's another review in the making). I saw her post on where she got her lashes done and booked an appointment. While I was making an appointment for my lashes, I inquired with the gal if she did powder brow tattooing and she recommended me to CJ! Talk about fate. CJ is one of the brow specialist at Beauty Mark. She also does makeup as well too. I texted CJ shortly after and she was able to squeeze me in the beginning of December. Beauty Mark Honolulu located in the McCully area on South King Street is easy to find. If you're familiar where Pineapple Patio, Beauty Mark is across the street in a building on the 2nd floor. Don't let the appearance of the building alarm you (its circa 1970ish, I think) because once you enter the salon, it's like you're in another world like the beauty salon of Narnia. It's relaxing, clean and the vibe is friendly where you are immediately at ease. For each of their services, they'll have you fill out a form to provide information on yourself as well as consenting to doing the procedures. With CJ, I chose to do the powder brow tattoo because in my opinion from the picture I've seen as well as searched online, it's a softer look of a regular tattooed eyebrows. CJ will work with you on your eyebrows until you're satisfied with the recommendations as well. She'll go over with you what she will do before and during the procedure. She will also take a before and after photo of your brows. NOTE: The procedure itself wasn't painful. Overall, a great experience because of CJ. If you're interested in powder brow, I highly recommend CJ at Beauty Mark Honolulu.

Shady business. I had an extremely disappointing experience at Honolulu Lashes & Glows with Anna,…read moreand I feel it's important to warn others before booking services here. First and foremost, Anna used a sensitive solution on my lashes without informing me or getting my consent beforehand--something that is completely unacceptable in any professional setting. She was aware that I had a previous lash lift (done over a month prior) but still failed to communicate what she was using on my lashes until after the service. I never agreed to a sensitive formula and should have been given the opportunity to make an informed decision. Secondly, Anna initially told me that a touch-up would be free if the solution was too weak--something we had already discussed at the end of my lash lift appointment. But when I reached out unhappy with the results, she completely backtracked and told me I would need to pay for another service. On top of that, she wrote up an entirely new contract stating that I would need to pay for services, which felt extremely unnecessary and only reinforced how unwilling she was to stand by her original word. Her communication throughout this process made it incredibly clear that she was hesitant to take responsibility or help me feel satisfied with my results. It felt like she was doing everything she could to avoid offering the touch-up she had already promised. To make things worse, she refused to validate parking for the follow-up appointment, which just made it even more obvious that she didn't want to do the touch-up at all. That level of dishonesty and lack of accountability is exactly why I won't be returning. I paid close to $120 for a lash lift that I'm not satisfied with, yet there was no resolution on Anna's end. Completely unprofessional to say the least. Lastly, I want to emphasize that I waited well over a month between lash lifts, and I know my body well enough to recognize that my lashes were not damaged prior to this treatment. The outcome I received was unsatisfactory, and rather than offering a solution, Anna made the situation far more stressful and complicated than it needed to be. I've decided I'd rather pay someone else to fix the mistakes made here than continue dealing with a business that is this untrustworthy and unprofessional. On top of taking my money elsewhere, I will be telling everyone I know to also take their business elsewhere and stay away from this shady business.
