My opinion of the business shifted when I dealt with the owner Monica. She plasterers on a fake smile, but there is a vibe with her that's very off putting. She provided my service, but it seemed more like a chore. She kept saying things that made it seem like she was trying to get out of doing my wax. Weird. I also had my brows done by Jeanette. They came out okay, but the energy with her was off as well. She got some wax in my hair and asked IF SHE COULD CUT IT OFF!!!!! I informed her that oil removes the wax, she grudgingly obliged and indignantly said "it worked" once my hair was free from her error. I also miss Giselle at reception! She was so fab and made you feel like you were in Beverly Hills at an exclusive boutique. If I could give 6 stars, I would! My prior review holds - Cera is the best place I've ever gone for eyebrow waxing. Deja does such a great brow wax! I have sensitive skin and everyone I've ever seen at Cera does a great job not damaging my skin and the products are soothing (not irritating at all). I don't even look like I had wax done an hour later (other places I've been, my skin would be swollen for hours later). The place is always clean, bright, and usually on time. (The only time I've ever had to wait 10 mins past my appt time was due to a fussy customer, not the staff.) I can't endorse Cera enough! read more

The ride up the elevator is unusually long (1min), but I was quickly greeted by the front desk associate, and promptly seen by Deja. I think its official.. Cera, I now pronounce you my go-to waxing place. This place is fantastic..its super cute inside, and is always clean. They play a good mix of music, and the front desk staff are always pleasant. BTW, the 45-47 second elevator ride up to the salon is real. My waxer Melissa is awesome!! She takes pride in her service and pays attention to detail. TMI ALERT: I have not had an ingrown hair since I started going to her. So she definitely knows what she's doing. She is also very friendly and very personable. Booking is easy, but they do fill up fast. So try not rely too heavily on booking last minute appointments. They also give courtesy calls to remind you of your upcoming appts. Parking can be a little dicey during the day and weekends, so plan accordingly. But you have a choice between street parking (coins, credit cards, and mobile phone app), or the parking garage. Overall, highly recommend..but make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there on time. read more

The customer service and experience at Cera Wax Studio was top-notch for sure! I decided to call for an eyebrow wax appointment and the friendly receptionist made sure we found a good time and date for me. You do have to give a credit card number over the phone to hold your appointment, but I read that on their website so I was prepared. I got an email the day before my appointment along with instructions that the elevator is slow, but it does work! The space was clean and inviting. I was offered sparkling water while I filled out the basic forms you normally fill out. I don't think I waited longer than 5 minutes before I was taken to a private room. My waxer asked what kind of brows I wanted and explained all the products she was going to use. She trimmed the long hairs first, then waxed, then went in to tweeze. I was definitely satisfied with the final result, but I feel for the $25 (+ tip) price I was expecting to be floored. This was definitely a splurge for me and the experience was very pleasant. I'm not sure if I'll be back just due to my budget, but I do recommend Cera Wax Studio! read more

I have been going here for a year and have never been disappointed. Kim and Monica have done my eyebrows and in fact I'd see anyone in the salon. They are all professionals and have really high standards. They ask questions about allergies and how you want your eyebrows to be shaped, etc. I have never had any other waxing services done here, but am sure they do equally as great a job. Doesn't feel cozy. Not at all. Just bare and cold. I was willing to put up with that, but after my third appointment I needed to reschedule my next appointment due to travels to NYC. Who knew waxing could be so glam?! Seriously obsessed. REASON FOR COMING: Dreaded Brazilians. BOOKING AN APPT: With several rave reviews, it's not always easy getting an appointment here, so book ahead! Even if it means having to cancel (of course provide notice before the 24 hour mark). They pay attention to your history and try their best to match you with your requested esthetician or the one you had on your last visit. Confirmation email is super detailed with parking and what to expect overall - very helpful. ATMOSPHERE: Tucked away, the entrance is a little nerve-wrecking since the elevator takes a while to get up to the 3rd floor of the building where Cera is located. However, they provide fair warning in the confirmation email and the sign inside the elevator, so don't worry! It's normal. Feminine colors give this place the glam vibe I mentioned earlier. The wax rooms are even glam with crystal chandeliers! Really pretty place and very clean. SERVICE: Since reservations are pretty much required (typically no walk-ins available), there's never much of a wait time when I arrive. Conversation during waxes can be awkward, but many of the estheticians here are hip and super easy to talk to. Waxes are quick and as painless as they can be. As noted above, this is one of the cleanest waxing studios I've been to! PRICING: None of this stuff is cheap anywhere, so I'd say Cera is average. Discounts available for advance reservations and reoccurring packages. PARKING: Plenty street parking available nearby and the Montgomery garage available at hourly rates. OVERALL: Love! read more

Okay, let me start by saying, it is NOT painless. It is the least pain, I've experienced (this was my 3rd Brazilian wax in life), but don't go expecting there not to be a degree of pain involved. Jasmine was my waxer and she was great. She made sure to let me know exactly what she was applying to my skin. We chatted the entire time and it made it go by very quickly. It felt like talking to an old friend. I was so focused on the conversation that it helped distract me from the minimal pain of the service. If it's your first time, you will have to fill out a form so I suggest getting there at least 5 minutes early. The elevator ride is long too so factor that in as well. I was seen promptly which I really appreciate. I hate having to wait for a scheduled appointment. The whole experience was professional but also friendly. I will definitely be coming to Cera for all of my future waxes. I tried two other places before here, but it looks like the third time was a charm. If you're thinking about giving Cera a try, don't think any more, just do it! Between 3 studio options, I decided to go with Cera because they had Sunday hours and availability. When I called to make an appointment, I had SO many questions as a first timer. They were more than helpful and accommodating. Fortunately, because my appointment was on a Sunday - I didn't have too much trouble with parking. Parking is free on weekends in the county parking lots and garages. So it was easy breezy! I was about 10 minutes early to complete first timer paperwork. It took about one minute literally. And a few minutes later, I was called back for my waxing. My Esthetician Melissa was super wonderful. I was SO nervous and uncomfortable. But she did a great job working with me and making me the experience not as bad as I predicted. Yes, it was super painful during the process, but the afterwards pain wasn't half as bad as I expected. I've been going to Monica (co-owner) for many years. I am so excited that she has opened up this great new salon in Bethesda. Pros - Very clean. I love how she doesn't double dip the applicator sticks into the wax. Wax is great. I've had issues in the past with my skin lifting with wax but whatever wax she uses is not too hot and comes off easily. Monica is very personable. I never feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. I really feel like she enjoys what she is doing. The place itself is cute. They put a lot of time into the decor and creating an overall experience. This place mainly just does waxing. I like that it specializes in one thing. Cons- The elevator to get to the salon takes forever. Seriously - keep waiting, it will eventually come. Prices are a little more expensive than your average nail place down the street that does waxing - but totally worth it as you feel more comfortable and the place is spotless and the staff is super friendly. read more

I had my first wax with Monica this morning. It was hands down the best wax experience of my life. She's definitely made a returning client out of me. Her technique is perfect, the pre-and-post-treatment products she uses are noticeably high quality, the waxing chair/bed is super comfy, and there's absolutely no awkwardness. It was as close to painless as waxing gets. Cera Wax was the first waxing studio that asked me about medications, skin conditions, and other health contraindications on their health form, so I know that they're meticulously looking out for their clients. I love this place so much, I'm a regular! First, you should know that I am super picky about my brazilian waxes. I am a girl who would rather throw down $100 for a good waxing experience. This place is the $100 experience, for a $65 price tag. The women who run this place are very professional, young, friendly, and experienced. They use high quality wax that doesn't give me in-growns or rip off my skin. They chat with you through it so to keep your mind off the pain, and they offer you a beverage and candy. Very nice! They even gave me a pro-tip, to apply "No Scream Cream" 1 hr before your appointment to numb the area ;) It really helps! I have been getting Brazilians here with Kimberly since 2013, and she always does a perfect job. She even tweezes after my wax to get any stragglers that she missed. The best part is that she works very quickly--she takes about 15 minutes to do a full Brazilian and doesn't leave a single hair behind! The facility is kept impeccably clean, and the waxers never double dip their sticks. This is very important to me. The customer service is excellent. You can make an appointment via email, phone, or in-person. I almost always make appointments via email, and I get a response pretty quickly when I request an appointment--usually they respond within one day. After each appointment I receive a follow-up email to make sure that everything went well and I don't have any complaints. One time my waxer was sick, so the receptionist called me a few hours before the appointment and had to reschedule the appointment. These things happen--it was an inconvenience, but I wasn't angry or upset (everyone gets sick). I didn't even complain or ask for a discount, but they gave me 10% off of my next appointment just for the inconvenience of having to reschedule the appointment. Wow! First time at Cera- I called ahead of time and they were able to fit me in for a bikini and lip wax the same day which was great because I'm such a chicken and hate getting anything waxed, so when I get brave, I can't wait. Tatiana was fantastic and put me at ease. I told her how sensitive my skin is and she suggested using the hard wax which adheres just to the hair and not to the skin. She was quick and there was minimal pain and irritation. I will definitely be back. Plus it was great to meet another Texas girl! A couple notes- parking is on the street so depending on how busy it is around Bethesda at the time you may have to hunt for a bit. Also, the entrance is right across the street from Grapeseed Bistro and next to Smoke BBQ. It's a little bit hard to find, but the number is over the door is very big, so just look for the address on the building and you'll be fine. Also, the actual studio is very clean. It's less spa like, but I didn't mind. It's more about efficiency and I appreciate that. They do offer water (still or sparkling) or soft drinks and they play great music which helps take your mind off things as they're ripping hair off your body. read more
