Vail Village - Bummed out about missing that one thing back home? Nope, not exactly.

The cobblestone walkways, alpine architecture, crisp mountain air, and towering peaks create a setting that feels almost unreal. Every visit reminds us why Colorado keeps calling us back. The mountains are majestic, the scenery is breathtaking, and the pace of life slows down just enough to appreciate it all. As Star Wars fans, we couldn't help but feel a little inspired: I am one with the mountain, and the mountain is with me. Whether you're hiking, strolling through the village, or simply sitting quietly taking it all in, Vail is a place that feeds the soul.

For some reason, I expected some changes, but the place looked exactly the same as I remembered it from over 10 years ago! Every square inch is just so picturesque! I did feel that there were a few negatives...for me (the non-skier). I just wished they had more boutiques that weren't so ski-oriented...and nicer coffee shops. Despite being such a swanky village, they also seemed to run short on nice bakeries and coffee shops. In fact, I was nearly shocked how basic some places were! Plenty of nice restaurants though...and many had cool European ambiance. Again, I'm not a skier, but I had no problems spending my time (up to 6 hours or more) walking around this pretty village. It truly felt as if I was in Germany or Switzerland. LOVE this place!!

Compared to Vail…read moreVillage (which is about a 10-15 min walk), Lionshead could be described as a bit more private and larger, with a unique layout. I love the closeness of the Eagle Bahn gondola and many restaurants around. Plus, my favorite fall foliage trail, Berry Picker, starts here. Summer parking used to be free but now is $10/day and cheaper for less hours. Was definitely nice to have free parking back then! Winter time, I like to park at Donovan Park and grab the free bus. If you're super early, you can get close street parking here. They have an annual Oktoberfest and Dog Town usually sets up here during the Go Pro Mountain Games. Lots of good shops and places to eat.

Most of the visitors also leave town after the last farmers market that time. After that is skiing season that may take another two months to happen. The town centre has the European bell tower with motion puppets. The village build in slope and the public parking takes you right in the town. Overall visit during that time only takes 1 hour. The gondola at the back take you to mountain and allow to walk to other side gondola and come down to Vail Village and take the bus to the Lionhead Parking.

Nest - Such a fun place with great bargains!!!

Today we found our…read morenew leather couch, a large round mirror, a coffee table, a great piece of art, 4 matching welcome matts, stools, and a bunch of other unique finds. Maybe you don't like western or ski themed decor - there is plenty of different designs and styles to select from. AND ! Everything is gently loved/used and we are essentially repurposing and recycling when shopping here... which is about once a month. Some days we have left with just a few cool martini glasses or bought so much we have to come back with a trailer (like today). Everything is high quality, very very reasonably priced, and unique. I believe a lot of people in the Vail and Edwards area bring their furniture, art, etc etc to Nest when they redecorate. Last time we were here we saw a gorgeous Cloud Couch set - in ecru. Which would be filthy in our home within 5 minutes because of our 3 big dogs. When we shopped today I knew I either wanted a leather couch or a dark Cloud Couch (which they seem to get a lot of this time of year). Sometimes we eat next door at a Mexican restaurant in the shopping center. You know - a margarita and nachos after shopping! We didn't do that today though. Other facts. Easy parking. Wonderful staff that is always working hard, and very approachable and friendly. Super clean bathroom filled with artwork. Delivery within Vail Valley is available. There's always something new. The inventory turns over FAST! If things don't sell they keep marking them down until they do sell. Great shopping trip today! Thank you, Nest!

This was my second experience and it did not disappoint. The views out the train windows are spectacular as your train winds around the mountain and you get to see a waterfall and the river rushing by! There is free parking that it can get crowded so get there at least 30 minutes early maybe more and buy your ticket ahead of time as they sometimes sell out day of.

Tickets are around $35 per person, only a few bucks off for my man under two which felt like a cash grab, but what are you gonna do? If you're visiting from a place where there aren't mountains, this will blow you away. But even for us locals here, the views are pretty stunning! Some are lackluster depending on which side you're seated on, you might be directly up against rocks, haha. But when it opens up, wow, just wow! PRO TIP: even if you have your QR code ticket, you MUST go inside to receive your physical paper tickets. They will not let you on the train otherwise! The novelty is there and as much as I appreciate it, I think maybe it's time to arrive in 2026. Worth the price of admission, in my opinion. Far from perfect and at times a little kitschy, but if you go with a positive attitude you'll see some spectacular views of our beautiful state!
