Called a taxi in late at night from our friend's place; my friend and I sat in the back and my sister sat in the front. My sister was just making small talk with the driver to pass time (what's your name, how's your shift been so far, etc) and the driver didn't really respond much so she stopped talking. After 5 mins the driver said she was annoying and said he hates customers like us and didn't want our "dirty money". I asked him to relax and not be so sexist as I'm also a guy and he's giving us men bad rep. But he was quite rude. Its the 21st century and people like this still exist sadly. Will never call Beck Taxi again. They need to seriously relook at their employees before putting them out on the streets. Booking in advance is not at all well supported and has let us down again. If you have any time sensitive requirements, you will enjoy the taxi experience much more by calling when you need the cab rather than starting the ordering process when your patience is nearly up and you call back. If that experience coincides with the driver taking the wrong passenger from the wrong door, you would wait forever if not calling the 3rd time. If that happens when you are accompaning a person on a day pass from a hospital and the hour and forty minute delay causes your appointment to be missed, you will probably call an Uber next time. Worst company and experience ever. Time and time again I am disappointed. An Uber quote of 64.00 cost me 100 in a beck taxi. If you are lucky enough to find a car that doesn't smell like it is lived in, or like food or body odour, then you are guaranteed to get shafted on the fare. Ordered a beck taxi to my doorstep like a always do. I informed the driver that I wanted a round trip back to my home and wasnt staying ,so after reaching my first destination I reached to step out the vehicle but the driver refused to unlock door without paying him (I was parked at friends home in driveway with her now approaching the taxi).I wound up giving him the fare and telling him to leave and that I would call a second taxi for making me feel disrespected. Second taxi came and asked me for a deposit for my trip, which also has never happened before. Deposit for 30$ trip.? Already enraged I told him Im not paying a deposit, so he leaves as well. 45 mins have passed, and I'm on the phone with Beck explaining to them how disappointed I am. 3rd taxi now comes, so proactively I offer him deposit money, he looks at me confused and asks why I'm paying a deposit. Absolute worst taxi service I have ever received! To keep it short, many unprofessional instances have happened for the short time I gave Beck Taxi a chance. Many of the drivers would listen in to me and my friends' conversation in the backseat and would cut in every minute to say something/argue about what we would be conversing about. They would always come super late and the car would always be messy and he would be cleaning up his car before we could even step in; and it did not matter if it was pouring rain either. Another time, my driver was texting and driving on the highway! In short, I do NOT recommend this taxi service to ANYBODY! It might be OK to use downtown downtown Toronto, but if you're anywhere in either Suburbs or even North End, Beck Taxi is an absolute joke. Now I either Uber or use another Taxi service. Quite frankly, any other service, compared to Beck, is a million times more professional. Avoid this taxi service at all times! read more

Cabbie saw me at the front of the hotel he was picking me up and decided to drive all the way around and watched me follow him all the way to the other side of the building. I was just biking north on Christie, (10:30am on a Sunday) preparing to take a left turn when suddenly a Beck cab speeds up behind me and starts honking erratically. We were the only two vehicles on the road so I put my left arm out to know I would be making a left. He keeps honking. I made my turn, he followed me and pulled over to yell at me for I don't even know what because I was unable to decipher his incoherent rambling. All I made out was "FCKING ASSHOLE.. something something, UBER something something MOTHER FCKER PIECE 0F SHlT." I was so stunned by this that I couldn't think of anything to say other than "... WAY OVER PRICED. I called asking for a flat rate, they said the lowest they could give me was $50. I called another taxi company and they gave me a flat rate of $35. As well as uber's price is $25. A cab driver agreed to take me to a destination 20 minutes away. After I got in the cab he changed his mind because the route was no longer convenient for him. I argued I would complain to the cab company due to this poor service. He then got out of the drivers seat, opened the back door and physically pulled me out of the car. Then proceeded to drive off with my purse in the backseat. This cab company also kicked out a friend of mine in the middle of no where when she called for an emergency cab ride because her puppy was throwing up. Once the cab driver noticed she had a puppy wrapped up blankets he kicked her out due to the fact in his religion they don't drive animals Absolutely disgusting services. HOW THE PRESIDENT OF BECK TAXI REACTED TO MY EMAIL I'm an app developer and had an interview planned for tomorrow for possible contract work on Beck's mobile app. I was told by the recruiter to review the company's website. I did but could hardly find much on it. Instead, I resorted to googling about Beck to see what the company's history was and how their business was valued by customers. That led me to this site. The low rating basically says it all. This started to disturb me. Their app only had a 3.4 star rating. Sure, I could re-engineer their app and bring it up to 4 stars but it was clear to me that Beck's major problem lied in their customer service, which includes both the drivers and their office support. The biggest changes they needed was in their business model and their customer service. The only real solution I could see was for Beck to switch to the model Uber uses but divide their taxi drivers into two groups. One group would be paid certified cab drivers. The others would be freelancers (like Uber has). This actually could be an advantage for Beck as many customers would prefer a certified driver. Passengers wanting a certified driver would pay more than for their freelancers. Heck, you could even throw in some extra benefits for taking a certified cab driver (like mileage points, where you get a free ride after enough miles). I even suggested that it be possible for passengers to rate the driver in the app and write comments about their experience. Gee, what a brilliant idea! Rating the drivers? You think? As a developer, I love building things and solving problems. On the other hand, I feel for companies that "just don't get it". In other words, maybe the President of Beck simply isn't young enough and smartphone swavy enough to know that the Uber model is the way to go. What I was about to do next was incredibly risky and some would say outright stupid. I decided to share my idea with Beck's President Gail Beck Souter. I easily found her email address online. Interestingly, I found it on a letter she wrote where she acknowledge the growth of Uber. I wrote about suggestions that I believed would help. The intention was completely honest and innocent. I addressed the issues customers were complaining about and offered a solution. It was obviously important to decide on your business model before writing an app and as I saw it, I was doing this woman an immense favor by sharing it with her directly. Guess what the response was. She turned around and contacted the person who I was to hold the interview with and had it terminated. The recruiter contacted me within a few hours and said that Mrs Souter was (paraphrased) "disturbed that someone would contact her directly and go over the heads of those at lower rank". I "broke protocol" as the recruiter told me. So let me get this right. Steve Jobs had no problem answering the phone on occasions at Apple to handle customer service calls. Steve Balmer gave out his email address online and said anyone can contact him when they have issues. Do either of these companies look like they're run by CEOs who couldn't care less about their employees or customers? There is zero comparison to a company like Apple and Beck. If Mrs. Souter had any real value as a CEO, she would have at the minimum just ignored my email. At best, responded and thanked me for the good suggestions. Expect this Wicked Witch from the North to end up like the one in the Wizard of Oz. I'm glad the 12 month contract didn't work out. I can't imagine tarnishing my resume with a pathetic company like Beck Taxi. Beck is a crappy company (to say the least) run all the way from their shitty drivers up to their shitty President. My daughter took a Beck Taxi last night from front and simcoe st to her home. About ten minutes after she left the taxi, she realized that she had left her iPhone 7. She called her phone number and the taxi driver answered her phone. She asked him to bring back her phone and he hung up. She called him again and he said he didn't speak English and hung up.(Question- how does a taxi driver work in Canada and not know English?) The third time she called, he shut the phone off. I called Beck taxi to find out what we could do to get the phone back and some rude, ignorant lady answered the phone. As I was trying to explain the situation to her, she kept interrupting me, telling me she is trying to understand. I politely asked her to let me finish talking when she hung the phone up. I called back and the second time she listened. She told me she would put it purl on the radio but I don't believe her. I think Beck has hired a bunch of untrustworthy people from other countries that cannot speak English, dishonest and they are turning a blind eye to stuff that goes on. I've told my daughter, next time take Uber because at least you have a record of the drive, license plate etc. It seems at Beck they don't know where their drivers are half the time. As the lady told me, they don't keep track of street pick ups. If that's the case, then go with Uber, they track ALL their drivers. By the way I am not an advocate for any taxi as I live in Nova Scotia(recently moved from Toronto) but I think taxi drivers need to be held accountable for fares and people's belongings. Beck Taxi does not seem to meet the criteria of being honest with people's belongings so therefore the public needs to be aware of their dishonesty. Bottom line: Use another taxi company. My story: I've been living downtown for the last 6 years using cabs often and smartly (never in rush hour and always avoiding streets with constructions and events). During these years I've been using Beck mostly, because all their cabs are equipped with debit/visa machines and because it's mostly Beck downtown. Until today I had my fair share of horror stories with Beck drivers, e.g. Drivers conveniently trying to forget the meter to rip me & my friends off while we're in a hurry, driving 90km per hour and driving dangerous while on a free highway on the way to the airport, intentionally turning into busy streets and traffic avoiding my instructed directions, etc. Today it was the straw that broke the camel's back. This time the driver knowingly lied to me that "the debit machine does not work" and tried to go on a detour so that I would withdraw cash from my bank, schemer had the decency to get in touch with his "manager" over the dispatch machine who confirmed that the machine does not work. Mind you I warned him right when I got into the cab that I'm paying with debit, he started driving and then threw this theatrical play while on our way. I was firm and continued to insist that I'm paying with debit and that's it. He made a sour face and when we arrived OH MIRACLE a working debit machine magically appeared and worked. The ridiculous part is that the ride was only $8.50 and that he attempted a scheme and a tantrum all in vain. Now this may sounds like a fun story, but I was not having any fun. I was on my way to the vet, my cat was in a bad condition and I had no time to be amused by this scheme. From today forward I will avoid this company at all cost. Dear Beck Taxi: Screen your staff. Hire driving professionals who know their way around the city. Audit existing drivers. Put in place a reporting system where drivers have their full name displayed in large print (people in a hurry and stress situations don't have time memorizing a 40 character name in small print) and have a direct number or email to customer support department. read more

These companies really need to vet their drivers! I was running late for my exam and decided to waive a cab. I told him my predicament and asked if he took debit before getting in for the ride. He said he did......... Once we got to my exam center, I asked him to turn on the machine so I could pay and hurry in. He refused to pass the machine over so I could pay and instead, suddenly insisted I give him cash. I was late and was not about to go around seeking an ATM machine which is why I asked for debit/credit before getting in the cab! I told him that if he wanted cash, he would have to come back after my exams because I was already late. I wrote down my number to give him and he flew into a fit! He started yelling that I didn't want to pay him (my debit card was out and ready to pay) and went ahead to call the cops on me! I decided to go inside and he followed me and barricaded the elevator. All this time he had the machine in his hand and refused to punch in the numbers so I could pay. At this point I didn't even know what he was fighting about because as he claimed I didn't want to pay him, I was PLEADING for him to let me pay with machine as was agreed upon or take my number if he insisted on getting cash. I think this man got some perverse satisfaction from taunting a lone female passenger and making her even later for her exam. He made all sorts of accusations and even told the cops that I damaged his machine. I never touched it!! Wasn't that the problem, that he wouldn't pass the machine so I could pay? I'm so glad I insisted on paying with debit because if I had succumbed to his sudden demand for cash, I would not have a receipt as proof that I never damaged his machine. After getting a rise, and as the elevator started closing in on him despite his attempts to keep it open, he decided to do what he should have done 30 minutes ago and punch in the figures into the machine so I could pay. Imagine that? I got to my exam half an hour late. Time was deducted. I lost time and money and he gained some perverse satisfaction from taunting a passenger. This is what you risk for being a lone female. This would not have happened if I was with someone else in that cab. I can guarantee it. It certainly wouldn't have happened if I was a man. He gets to sleep well at night and do it again while I remain shaken by this absurdly unnecessary incident. read more

I would give it zero stars if I had to. That taxi driver disrespected me. I was coming late and all of a sudden, he didn't want any coffee cups in his cab. Is that a new rule or was that always a rule? This happened on Thursday at Baycrest hospital. When I got in the cab, he was very demanding to me. He said put your seatbelt on in his halting voice. He kept pushing me and rushing me all the way back home. I am only a human being. I just want him fired from Beck Taxi. He can go back to his country! It was a wheelchair cab btw. I've only used Beck four times. All of these occasions were in the past few months, when work gave us Beck coupons to get home after some of us stayed late. On three of those occasions, the drivers did not know where the well known intersection of Queen and Broadview was. I had to direct the drivers myself. OK...so last night was an EPIC FAIL for Beck Taxi!!!! So background info: I'm a black female, I live at Jane and Steeles, I work at a bar/nightclub in downtown Toronto, last night was our holiday party(yes late, but better than not having one at all)...so there was some drinking involved(we are bar people that's a given)....so obviously I'm taken a cab home as its after 1am in the morning, plus it's cold as heck these past few days here in Toronto. I hail a cab at Bathurst and Queen...oh, i'm in 4 inch heels by the way(very important part to this story). I get in the cab, tell him where I need to go to, he starts driving. We get almost to St.Clair and he says to me...wait for it...."PLEASE PREPAY YOUR FARE" ....Excuse you!!!!!! Have you bumped your head??? Prepay??? What the heck is that. He proceeds to try and justify this crap by telling me because of the area I'm going, I have to pay for my fare before we arrive. Inside I was dying with laughter cause this was some funny stuff....NOT!!!!!! Long story short, I call Beck....the silly little girl on the line tries to convince me she's the manager, yes cause most mangers are sitting around with their staff at ! something in the morning...ME THINKS Not!!!!!!!! She says to me...wait for it...It's a BY-LAW and it's been in place since June of 2014!!! I ask why isn't such an important, ridiculous piece of info posted anywhere in the vehicle. She says it's up to the driver's discretion if he wants to post it. Again, ME THINKS NOT!!!! I hung up on her as my tolerance for stupid is not high at all. I told the driver, please pull over so I can get out. He stopped, I paid the $14, and told him I wish this same thing happens to his wife or daughter. How dare he leave a female on the side of the road!!!!! This so called BY-LAW is biased/prejudiced...against people who reside in the Jane area...most importantly, against black people as they make up a huge majority of the population in that area. Beck Taxi and all other companies were so vocal about their disapproval with new company Uber, taking business from them, but I'm sure they don't have filthy practices like telling people to prepay for a ride. I have not taken a single cab in over a year, until last night. After a day at the island yesterday, with my dog and friend, we decided to take a cab to head back to drop off my bag and dog before going and grabbing dinner. I accidentally left my phone in the cab, which I realized only after entering my apartment and being unable to find it. I located it on the find your device app and promptly called it. Thankfully, the driver answered and offered to drop it off where he delivered it initially, which he did. I said to my friend that I would give the man a tip for dropping it off, and pulled out $15 for him. The driver gave me the phone and I pulled out the cash, to which he replied "That's it?". I was honestly surprised. I responded with, "well, yeah?" His response, "Are you kidding me? People out there would give me $50 for their phone back". I apologized (in retrospect, I do not know why I did). "Well, thanks man, but sorry, that's all I got." "I would have got more if I just took another fair and didn't have to do this bullshit, the fair from where I was would have been more than this!" pointing to his meter which is currently off. I said, "buddy, it's all cash tip, none of this is going to Beck, it's all in your pocket" "No, you gave me fare only, you didn't give me tips" "How is it that I gave you the fare when your meter is off? You want me to pay you more for this?" He stated that it was a "delivery fee". At this point, I was absolutely livid. He was essentially trying to extort money off of me. I simply decided to walk away and slammed his door, to which he screeched off angrily honking his horn. I went back inside and messaged the man which can be found here[RES ignored duplicate link] When I called Beck to file a complaint today, they were unapologetic at best. I spoke to a woman and told them of the ordeal, and said "all I have to identify the driver is his phone number", as I did not have his cab number or plate. She said "oh, then it might be hard to find out who it was". My response was, "could you not just call him? Do you not have a way to contact your employees individually as an employer?", to which she replied "someone will contact you at your availability." I was surprised, and asked "In that case, would you like my number so you could contact me?" which she then took. This is the reason people use services like Uber. People talk about no accountability, well, this is it. Shady business that phishing customer's credit cards. I was in Toronto and Niagara falls in May 2015 for a business trip. The only place I used my corporate AMEX card was at Niagara falls. 6 month later and exactly 6 month later a CAD $20 authorization came through my credit card. It was just an authorization so if I didn't setup transaction alerts with AMEX it would slipped through without me knowing. Lucky I was paged immediately when the Authorization was requested. I was not even in Canada at the time. This is a typical shady business who collects credit cards from customers and wait a while before they run a small amount in authorization to ensure it is a valid credit cards. If you didn't notice, the large fraudulent transaction would follow shortly. This taxi company is for sure a shady company and I reported them to AMEX and local authority. read more

The driver completely ignored our not unreasonable request and when my girlfriend asked him why he wasn't taking the route that we asked for he ignored us. When she asked again he turned to me and said and I quote "You need to shut her up". At that point I asked to be let out and that we weren't paying and that I would be reporting him to the city. Becks taxi drivers are the worst. I've had so many try to strong arm me into giving them more money. Many take the far route, or try to circle in queens park to up fares. I've had so many instances where I gave them a big bill and they REFUSED me change saying I should tip them. Why should I have to pay $20 for a $12 ride?!? So rude, both the call centres & drivers. A beck taxi driver used vulgar language and swore at me for giving him a $1 tip on a $6 ride. I was disappointed.

Some of the worst drivers in the world work for Beck. They should all be taught how to drive. I feel un-easy sharing the road with them.

Care for an anecdote? Hell yes! One time I was going to meet my friend Debra, but --through nobody's fault but my own-- I got mired in a lost cause of a conversation with this nightmare hippie girl by the side of the road. I made up an excuse that this girl that I know was choking on hotwax (or something) , and set to steal my body home in a cab. Now, I can't call one because my cellphone's dead, but luckily there was a black and white coming round the bend. It smelled like nicotine and gravy, not that I was expecting peaches and cream or anything, but the driver was going 1000BPM and it was giving me nausea. We took a ramshackle route, and I seriously thought this would be my farewell ride while shitty elevator music played on the radio. I remember thinking, I should make an emergency exit. This derelict cab driver is going to kill us. Is this soul suckin' jerk fuckin' with my head? But at the end of the day, that's what cabs are like in Toronto. "It's all in your mind," I told myself and lost myself in the static of the radio and the strange apparitions in the window. When I got home, I was inside out and spouting profanity prayers. And he gave me a hassle about using debit. Lord only knows I could be already dead by now. That's why I rely on Beck from now on. Obligatory Title Pun: At your BECK and call. I have been using your company for over 25 years. I have always received a prompt and courteous response from all of your employees and one driver 's exceptional service today, particularly stands out. I had been given an erroneous address for my destination but the driver went out of his way to ensure we tried to find it. I finally did arrive and discovered that I had dropped an envelope (unmarked) in the cab and when I discovered this, I phoned the dispatcher who sent the driver to my home with the envelope. I did not get the driver's name in all the confusion over the lost article but would like to ensure he is recognized for his honesty and hid diligence in service. Beck. is the worst taxi company. I called a taxi an hour ago I'm still waiting. I've call like 5 times they keep on telling me the taxi is two minutes away. it's bull crap. unacceptable. I'm just gonna get an Uber. a beck taxi can suck it.
