All I need to say is Mac and Cheese! The atmosphere is like nothing I've experienced. There is local art everywhere, a table with a fire place, and river walk area to go outside. Came in during the day to catch a college game. It wasn't busy so quick service. The bartender Olivia was very attentive to anything that I needed. Never waited for a refill and the food came out quick. Also was in a cheerful mood even with it being slow for her which is a good quality in a bartender. However I didn't feel a good presence from the owner Chris.Never introduced himself and kept glancing at me as if I wasn't welcome. I heard him ask the bartender about my tab which I had already paid as if I wasn't going to pay it. Awesome location to meet friends. great ambiance. Food was pretty tasty. Inside of the place is really cool and modern, and is much needed hip spot for the area. I really appreciate that the art on the wall is from local artists and you can buy the pieces. I really like when restaurants do that. The patio is also really nice. and the crowd seems to be a good mix of young professionals and hip middle aged people. The food was tasty and fresh and the prices were very very very good.. Real hit or miss--sometimes it's good, sometimes it's ok (considering that the menu is at a higher price than most in Oshkosh). One of the nicest restaurants in Oshkosh, though, and I recommend sitting at the table surrounding the fireplace if you can. Recommended items: Burger, steak salad, cod, salmon. The potato croquette is a different side than offered at most restaurants, and I recommend. Sometimes the fries can be limp but other times they aren't. I hate to write a negative review about Beckets because I have loved Beckets for so many years, but our service last night was unbelievably horrid. The bartender (whom shall remain nameless but her name starts with a "J" and she has blond spiky hair) actually said really rude comments to me as I was ordering apps for Jerry; who was on his way to the restaurant. Happy hour ends at six and if he is going to be late, I typically will order him apps and put a glass of wine on our tab as well. The bartender put the order in and said, "You're really taking advantage of happy hour." To which I said, "I can't help it if he's a little late." To which she responded,"It's not our problem that he's late either. We never hand out drink chips for happy hour prices." Hmmmmm....then why do they have the little star drink chips and what is the purpose of happy hour? I have never had a bartender say this to me in ALL of the times I have gone there! There were about six people total there...shouldn't they be happy to have our business? I'm disappointed in myself for not saying more. But would it really matter? No more Beckets for me! I would rather go somewhere that treats customers with basic kindness and respect! So much for customer service! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants i have ever gone too. The potato croquets are these wonderfully seasoned mashed potatoes, rolled in breading and fried to hot crunchy perfection. The use locally sourced meat and vegetables and there menu changes for what's in season. I had the best steaks I have ever had in my life here. I ordered it rare, and just like it should be it was just hot in the middle. The steak was tender enough I cut it with my table knife, and it needed nothing. Usually I add pepper to every steak I order but this was too good to add anything to. They had asparagus which if over cooked is mush, if undercooked is woody. This had a slight snap and I think only had lemon, salt, pepper, and butter. I wouldn't have changed a thing. The ambiance it beautiful. If you can try to get a table over looking the bridge right as the sun sets. You watch the sky change beautifully and as soon as it's dark you watch the lights on the bridge shift over the water. It's breath taking. Anytime family comes to town to visit that isn't a holiday we go to Beckets. It is worth every penny. read more

3 of us went to Becket's last night for dinner. The place was less than half full. After we were seated, we were ignored by numerous wait staff for 20 minutes. Finally went to hostess station and asked if it would be possible to get any service. We are really trying to support local (non-chain) eating establishments but won't be going here again for a long time. Went with a group for the happy hour after a day of work. Waited at the bar for a beverage for 10 - 15 minutes without acknowledgement. Got a table, and took another 10 minutes. When requesting our tab, we waited 20-30 minutes. I did share this with the host, and he asked me what I wanted. I did not think about a response as I was NOT after a free round of drinks or reduced /free food. I do believe in choosing local. Do want to feel special while doing so. When I do go out , and spend my money: I do not want to feel more stressed when I leave than when I entered. I would like to be acknowledged when I enter. I would like the same while I stand at the bar waiting for a beverage. If you have x number of folks in front of me; let me know. When serving apps, provide plates, napkins, etc. Please don't have folks ask and wait. Food was good, but really went there for a relaxing evening. read more

Wednesday night is a great night at Becket's because they have special deals on good bottles of wine and live, jazz music. The food is good, but our own request is that they have more options for vegetarians and that is why I didn't give a 5 star. We usually eat a Walnut burger, which is fine, but not great (it is sort of bland tasting and falls apart). Or, we get the nachos, which are good and the portion is large. The only other options for us are an "adult grilled cheese," which is over priced for what it is, or lasagna, which is good. The ambiance is great--very modern and cool. New Year's Eve -- not really my favorite holiday, but the boyfriend and I came out with some friends for a 9pm dinner, intending to stick around and enjoy the music until midnight. While it seemed like the kitchen had thought about the fact that it was a holiday (special, limited "Celebration Menu"), front of house clearly hadn't. We arrived ten minutes prior to our reservation and were assured by the army of hosts (seriously at least 4 of them were milling around) that our table would be ready soon. We weren't seated until 9:20, and they first tried to seat us in the private dining room by the door, away from the live music, without any heads up or asking us if that was ok. A member of our party indicated that no, that was not ok, and we were offered a high top table in the bar area, which took far longer to clean and reset than seemed reasonable, especially given the number of people working. Even allowing for the holiday, service was not great, with several miscommunications and/or forgotten items. When our server asked us pretty pointedly if and when we might be ordering dessert, we asked if she had somewhere else to be (it's 11pm on NYE, obviously we're staying until midnight...), and were told that normally dinner service ended at 10pm, so the waitstaff was being told to close out their tables and leave, since the restaurant didn't want to pay them. It seemed kind of weird, given that it was NYE, but we duly ordered dessert and paid up. We later saw our server, having changed clothes, partying down in the bar area. Honestly, the whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was fine, neither great nor terrible, and lacking salt, as seems typical around here. The boyfriend's medium rare lamb was actually pretty rare, but he didn't bother to send it back at that point. The website didn't indicate the special menu for NYE, so when we arrived, I was disappointed to discover that their cheese curd appetizer that I had been eagerly anticipating was not on the menu. I understand the reason for limiting the menu, but some advance notice would have been nice. Overall, it was ok. It seemed like they were treating NYE just like any other night, which clearly it isn't, and I would have preferred more information up front about how things would be (the menu, seatings, etc.). I definitely won't be back for NYE next year, but I probably will come back on a regular night. read more

My girlfriend and I split a steak salad and a zucchini wrap. When I bit into my half of the wrap, I felt a hair string from my mouth from inside of the wrap. There was a hair raveled inside of it. We stopped a waitress and kindly explained the situation. They made us a new wrap ASAP, unfortunately I still couldn't bring myself to eat it, I picked at it. Being in the customer service industry myself, I would have taken the wrap off of the bill due to the incident, but we paid for it, it was still on the bill. Just happened across this place while in Oshkosh shopping. It is as our bartender Daniel said "a hidden treasure". We sat at the bar and took in the great views of the water. We ordered Bloody Mary's and a chaser. The best made from scratch Bloody Mary I have ever had. After looking at the menu we ordered the soup and salad but had other options that sounded delicious. Love that they source from some of the local businesses and offer gluten free upon request. While waiting Daniel filled us in about the great views of the bridge lights, sunsets, music and happy hour specials. Food arrived. One word, SLOW. Our server tried, he really did, but it was if this were his first job (and maybe it was), but he had no idea what he was doing. I don't know why a resturant would put wait staff on the floor with little to no training but this seemed to be the case. He didn't offer to tell us the specials until after we finally asked. He didn't have any idea what was on tap and there was nothing printed at the table to refer to. He took for ever to return during the meal so I gave up with the idea of ordering a second drink. And finally, after a long long wait, we had to track him down to take our payment. As for the food, I had the peppercorn sirloin and it was served medium rare as requested, but it was as tough as shoe leather. My wife said her cheese sandwich was good. We experienced poor service and subpar food. Wine took over 20min to be served and food came out first. Dishware was dirty. Mahi Mahi tasted frozen from years ago, while bread was stale and burned. Baked potato was dry and served with nothing but butter. Salmon sandwich was alright but the seasonal vegetables (aka asparagus) were overripe and overcooked. Had a group dinner here during Oshkosh. They have good wine selection and a nice location. However, one person in our party got ill from the food. Becket's is a fancy/casual restaurant and bar. They have an amazing beer selection that changes quite often. Their appetizers are very tasty. On Thursday's they have all day happy hour where they have half off appetizers and discounted drinks. The entrees do not disappoint either. On the weekends they usually have pretty good music and a really cool fireplace to sit by if you can snag it before someone else gets it. read more

I was visiting my in laws over Christmas and they took my wife and here. Even for a restaurant named after the architect that designed the Park Plaza, the aesthetic ambiance both inside the restaurant and outside (it overlooks the Fox River) is fantastic. Two of our group had steak entrees and two of us had the panko crusted salmon. All were well executed. The salmon was served over a bed of nore (a type of Japanes seaweed), a particularly creative and tasty combination. Both my wife and I have waited tables and were impressed with the service. It was efficient and friendly without being overbearing or pretentious. Overall, we all had very enjoyable meals. I would highly recommend Becket's. read more

Some in Oshkosh view Becket's as a bit of a riddle. Most would agree that the design and decor of the place is upscale and definitely unexpected. Oshkosh, after all, is not known to be a hip and trendy town. Becket's interior is a sleek and modern mix of many different materials and the color scheme is sophisticated. You could put this place in Chicago or Minneapolis and it would still look cool. Clearly the owner has good taste and no corners were cut in the design dept. The restaurant is in an under-utilized structure that used to be an urban shopping mall. The building sits on the Fox River. There is outdoor seating and you can pull your boat right up to the terrace. I'm not really a fan of the outside seating. The murky ol' logging river doesn't smell very appetizing and I get tired of the locals who run their noisy little tubs up and down the river all day, constantly making the drawbridge keeper earn his pay. Add seagulls to the mix and I'd just rather be inside. Service is young and friendly. The bar staff is good and the shelves are stocked with top flight stuff. Entertainment is great, particularly a local jazz ensemble called The Jazz Orgy that would be considered top notch anywhere. So what's the riddle? The food. I should say that I have never had horrible food here. I've also never had a meal that blew me away. The food is OK to good, but usually more OK than good. Get it? There is an actual chef in the kitchen and it is said that this man has recently won an award of some type. I don't really see it, or taste it, to be more accurate. Mind you, the menu is creative. It's just that the taste and consistency can't seem to live up to the creativity. Maybe the chef's kitchen crew is letting him down, I dunno. I do hope chef finds his stride at some point. I really want to give this place five stars, but I'm sticking to four. On food alone, I'd give it two or three, but the design, coolness factor, and quality of entertainment vault it to a solid four. I'm a fan. Oh, and I'd still like to know how in the heck they managed to get Civil Twilight to perform here - and on St. Patrick's Day no less. I mean, what was that band even doing in Oshkosh? I want to like Becket's. I really do. They do a lot to support their community, it's a great space, and the drinks are good. But... the food is just bad. I've been here more times than I can count, and one of the last times I decided to order a steak, because the table agreed that it's hard to really screw up a steak. Well, it may be hard, but they managed. The best food I've ever had here has been decent. The worst food has been spit-it-back-out quality. (Complaining, or letting it go back uneaten, never does anything - neither gets you a comped drink or meal, nor gets to anyone who has the power to change anything - same bad, month after month, year after year.) So, if you are going for atmosphere, go. But eat somewhere else beforehand, or drink enough so you don't care. Or - wait - fill up on their potato croquettes. I used to love this place, still love the service & the bartenders, but last night after taking my husband out for his birthday I can only day YUK! We started with pico chips...pico was bland and tasted old, salt made it somewhat palatable (sigh...) Ordered steak & panko chicken. Steak was overcooked, chicken was coated in burnt panko, obviously taken from frozen to oven and over cooked (sigh...) Baked potato was cold...now that is almost impossible since a baked potato can hold it's heat for a LONG time...sad overall for me since I used to love this place. Becket's it's a good place to eat in the summer and sometimes during the winter. They have nice specials and a very good happy hour compare to other restaurants. They are reasonably priced and the environment is good. One thing that I did not like from one of my recent visit is that they had special "menu" for the "holiday", which happened to be V-day, and everything was extremely overpriced. The restaurant was empty and they shoudlve just kept the regular menu for that day. We decided not to dine there and left to Vitale's on Murdock (which ended up being a great choice) read more
