Another great visit! I had the combination lunch plate consisting of flounder and popcorn shrimp. What a bargain at $10.95! My daughter got the lunch 8 ounce hamburger steak with onions and gravy for $11.95. Everything was cooked perfectly. Service was very good, as well. I highly recommend Beck's! read more

At and early Sunday lunch recently. Flounder was excellent and so fresh. I will return.

Good overall, but there are some issues. Beck's does most of its calabash-style seafood well. The fried shrimp were warm, not too heavily-battered, and weren't too greasy. They didn't get mushy by the end of the meal, at least. The deviled crab is passable, and my group was split on whether the flounder was good or not. Good hushpuppies, for sure; they're about as light as fried cornmeal can get. One issue with Beck's is its design. Its low ceiling and crowded space makes the whole place loud. One of my group who is hard of hearing wasn't able to hear much of our conversation, nor were we able to hear him. Even those of us with normal hearing and speech had to talk pretty loudly and occasionally had to ask folks to repeat themselves. Service-wise, we were well taken care of, with regular drink refills and extra baskets of hushpuppies as needed. read more

I have driven by this location many times and at different times of the day and it's always packed with cars. They have a few specials and decided to try. I ordered the shrimp special and liked it. This came with fry's but I subbed a baked potato. The dinner came with slaw which was average and hush puppies that were okay. Overall, I liked the meal and the price was right at 13.00 as I ordered before 4 pm. I ordered this to go and the food was still hot when I got home. read more

Overall this food was tasty and the portions were big. The fries were only $11.99, but there was so many. We shared it between 4 people and didn't finish it. Another year, another delicious meal at Beck's. I'm not sure there's any other restaurant in calabash that delivers the same quality of food consistently through time. The restaurant is so colorful and fun with murals painted on the wall and it's always busy and full of large groups of people having a lot of fun on vacation. This is obviously a long established restaurant that now runs on its past history more than finding new After reading good reviews we we disappointed to find that food is just average. Nothing we had was bad but nothing was all that great either. Normally I have more to say but I think you get the point. I met with my wife and another couple at Beck's and have to say worst choice I could have made. Long story short, I ordered the onion rings and I received a plate full of greasy, smelled like overused burnt grease seaweed that entertwined and very difficult to eat. We love Beck's! We always get the Fried seafood platter-mine with Calabash style shrimp, deviled crab and clams, hubby gets oysters, deviled crab and clams. Beck's has been around forever but that's for a reason--it's amazing. If you like hot, fresh fired seafood then you will be heaven. We gave Beck's another chance and this time the food was delicious! The shrimp and grits was very cheesy and the shrimps perfectly cooked. The stuffed flounder was also well prepared. The waitress was nice and we were seated very quickly. We recommend you trying it! read more

Last week I decided to stop in at dinner - something, as a local, I know better than to do in the summer with all the vacationers in town. 3.5 stars. When we come to beach we always make a visit to Ella's. But since it has yet to be rebuilt we thought by we would try their sister restaurant, Beck's. The menu seems about identical to Ella's and it looks a lot like it inside. The hush puppies were the same, we love them. One of our group was going to order a fish sandwich and at the last moment chose pulled pork for some reason. He thought it was a sandwich as it was listed under sandwiches, but it came out on a plate, no bun to be found. He said it wasn't the best. I had a combo like I normally got at the other place; flounder, shrimp and a deviled crab. It also comes with fries and slaw. I asked the server what the difference is between the large and small size, she said more shrimp, that's it. So I chose small and I'm glad I did as it had a ton of shrimp already. The food was crammed onto a smaller plate than what it should have been. The flounder was good, except for the skin on. The shrimp were okay, the deviled crab wasn't as good as Ella's. It tasted like stove top stuffing. I didn't eat the fries, they were cold and I was full. The slaw was decent. read more

A solid 4 rating as I decided to try a Calabash seafood restaurant I had never tried before. It is the epitome of the calabash style seafood located in the heart of Calabash and does not disappoint with hot hush puppies as you arrive , good tea, friendly service and fried seafood oh my! It was clean and the food came out quick, hot and not greasy . We had shrimp, flounder, and clam strips. The baked potato was hot and I wish these type restaurants would serve real Butter instead of watery whipped spread. That potato deserved better. The cocktail and tartare sauces were above average. The oyster stew is the reason for the season! We stopped in at lunch and really just wanted a light meal. I ordered a salad and the oyster stew - delicious, just like my mom makes. We stopped in on December 30th for lunch and instead of it being "winter" outside, it was very warm, so as much as we would have liked to eat at a nice waterfront restaurant, we opted for Beck's instead. We were quickly greeted and seated and our server was friendly and awesome! We started with their crab bisque, which was really good! More on the liquidy side, not a lot of chunks of crab in it, but the flavors were nice. Could have been a lot better with some Old Bay sprinkled in it. For lunch, I got a flounder sandwich and a small dish of shrimp. Both were lightly breaded to order and tasted great! Their cocktail sauce is homemade and is awesome! There was lots of flavor and spice in the cocktail sauce! Overall, we enjoyed the visit... Restrooms were clean and the place has a nice décor, but it can get loud in there. Definitely the standout of all the places we dined throughout our Carolina and Georgia road trip this summer. All of the places we went to were understandably suffering from low staffing, so it's unfair to review based on that. Beck's however, might also be dealing with this, but based on our experience, you wouldn't know it. Service was fast, efficient and friendly, but best of all, their food is outstanding. Their fried seafood dishes are fabulously fresh and flavorful. My husband is not a seafood fan so he ordered their BBQ sandwich and absolutely loved it. I sampled it and, wow!! A complementary basked of hush puppies is served, and they're delicious, because, of course they are!! We will absolutely eat here again next time we're in the area. read more

Absolutely horrible first impression; to the point where my family and I didn't even attempt to eat here. We walked in and asked the employee how long the wait was to be seated. He was banging his fist on the wooden display and proceeded to drink his drink while also moving his straw up and down with his hand. Based off of that first impression, I was immediately shut off from even giving my service because of how he greeted my family and I. We traveled 3 hours to spend a nice vacation at sunset beach and had heard good things about Beck's restaurant. This place will never get my service, which is disappointing because we were really looking forward to eating here. I come to sunset beach intermittently throughout the summer and this could've been a really good opportunity for a young employee to shine, except he put a bad taste in my mouth with how the business portrays itself whether intentionally or unintentionally. Either way, I hope someone at a managerial level assesses the importance of customer service because otherwise, this place will take a huge hit in vacancy. read more

We came here for a family vacation and saw that Beck's Restaurant had great reviews. However, we were disappointed with the calabash shrimp. They were very tiny, which was surprising since the appetizers included normal-sized shrimp. I find that small shrimp don't taste as good and don't belong in an entree. Unfortunately, they had no flavor and were quite bland. The deviled crab reminded me of Thanksgiving, when my mom made stuffing, it was mostly breadcrumbs, with little crab flavor. The crab cakes and steamed crab legs were decent, but the real standout were the hush puppies. They were definitely the best part of the meal and the price of them were un-matchable. The prices of the rest of the meal were reasonable, but overall, it was just an okay meal. read more

Excellent food and service. We ordered and enjoyed Key Lime Pie at every restaurant we visited, but we voted Becks Key Lime Pie the absolute BEST! I also ordered the Shrimp & Cheesy Bacon Grits and the meal was a hefty portion of shrimp. My companion ordered the BBQ Pork Sandwich and he enjoyed his meal as well. We loved their hush puppies and honey butter as well as their Calamari! The calamari was so good--crispy, lightly breaded, spiced, and not greasy!
