I was excited to try out the breakfast offerings here but unfortunately I got here too late...so I went with one of their seasonal drinks and a chocolate croissant. I selected the Ube Matcha drink. I must say I was a little disappointed in the drink. I could taste the Ube a little bit but the flavoring was just blah. The matcha and ube did not blend well which was surprising. The chocolate croissant was tasty though. Service was fine but not overly friendly. This place features a restaurant, an urban farm, market, coffee shop and event center all under one roof. The space is large and quite lovely. The market features a small offering of grocery items along with local products. I wish I would have had the time to return as I the restaurant food is homegrown and fresh. Seasonal menus are created. I glanced at the menu and some of the dishes looked so inviting. Hopefully I can return in the future to try out the healthy food.

I parked in the designated parking only to stop for a few empanadas at Lazo but as soon as I saw this place right in front of me, I couldn't help stopping to check it out. It was like being in a botanical garden where entrance fee is free. Beautiful flowers/plants/herbs were meticulously lined up in different sections. Some of them (due to their vulnerability I guess?) are/were under large tarps. Vibrant and or colorful, you can think of several different words to describe how beautiful the entire place. Per the signs (found throughout the place), all of them are locally grown (hence the description "Colorado Native".) As a quasi-Colorado native (have lives in this state since 1998), this means a lot to me. Yes, I SUPPORT! I didn't buy anything in fear that I would kill it (as much as I am a nature lover myself, I don't know how to take care of plants/flowers) hence I cannot speak of the value part. Everything looked fairly reasonable though. I also couldn't speak of the service part as I did purchase anything but one thing I could say about the place is the fact that its workers were out constantly caring for the plants/flowers they cherish. And the entire place looked absolutely organized. That's a good indication that they must be solid in service. I want to visit this place again next time with someone who is an avid gardener. Conveniently located on the southwestern side of University and Orchard. The parking has plenty of spaces for shoppers.

I wanted to add some interest so that I wouldn't have just rock everywhere, but this south side of the house has no drip line. Perhaps some cacti and other southwestern plants would be appropriate? I made my way down to the local nursery and found this cute potato cactus. Rather than the typical plastic stick with planting instructions, the plastic stick found in the little plant casing said www.coldhardycactus.com. I went to this website to see how to plant and care for this cutie, and lo and behold--an entire cactus website run out of a location right down the road in Lakewood, Colorado! They sell quite a variety of cacti, yucca, agave, all the southwestern plants you might find in a desert environment, carefully studied and developed to be cold hardy for Colorado. I promptly scheduled an in-person tour of the plants, which you can do online. When I arrived, Kelly, a horticulturalist, showed me around the yard and greenhouses and told me about all the plants that he grows. He knows absolutely everything about them, and loves to convey his knowledge about their origination, hybridizations, and ability to withstand our environs in planting zones 4, 5, 6, etc. My house resides in zone 5. Based on Kelly's guidance and my own taste in plants, I walked away with a combination of cacti and succulents; from your traditional spiny cacti to beautiful flowering gentle varieties with smoother paddles. With my brown thumb, and the little 1.5-2" pots, I was wary about their outcome. However, you can see below the pictures that I took in May, 2025. They survived beautifully, and in fact are thriving! I have to admit that the succulents did not make it through the winter. I suspect I did not provide enough water for them after planting, or maybe the site just isn't right, but I couldn't be more happy and proud of the many cacti that are happy in my yard. In one year, some have at least doubled in size! I recently paid Kelly another visit this fall, and purchased some yuccas and agaves this time to fill in some holes in my landscape. I have some pictures below of these babies. I'm excited about the prospect of a southwestern cactus garden in my south yard! If you have want to add a little bit of interest to your yard with an unusual touch, or even just want to create an indoor cactus/succulent arrangement, I highly highly recommend visiting ColdHardyCactus.com. If you live in the Denver metro area you can pick them up from Kelly, but he also ships them anywhere.

The sizes- from compact to huge. The colors- non-blooming to show-stoppers. The knowledge- zones, growth, care. The prices- incredibly affordable for such rarity! I live in Austin, TX which is nearly perfect for all types of cacti, but we do experience the occasional freeze (like this week ), but these cacti are one less worry I have when protecting all my cold-tender plants. I planted my selections around November and they had plenty of time to root since we stay pretty warm until January. Excited to see what the spring holds for new growth and I'll certainly be adding to my in-ground collections!

As I have aged more & more of the yard's care has gone undone to the point that none of my plants bloomed this year. This year I contacted Chris & asked her to rescue my plants. She carefully explained that my plants may take more than a year to recover, but she started them on the road to recovery. So far she has spent time trimming & shaping the plants. She has taken bags of old, dead growth out of each bush. They have been fertilized. Slowly they are beginning to grow back & look healthy again. Next spring I will see some flowers & the following year I will have my beautiful yard again. When that happens I will share pictures. In the meantime, I get complements every day about how much better my yard looks after every visit Chris makes. She's the greatest thing to happen at my house in many years. Having her visit is the greatest gift you could give your yard & yourself. Marilyn
