I have passed by Beef King for over 30 years and finally I stopped by for one of their famous roast beef sandwiches. I can not believe that I have been missing out for so long. I was under the impression that they were similar to Arby's but I was misinformed. It is a quality sandwich unlike any other fast food restaurant. The bread, meat and cheese were all so fresh and each one complimented the other. It didn't taste like it was sitting around under a heating lamp waiting for someone to purchase it. Since I had a long drive to get back, I demurred on the "Beefy Tots" and drinks; but I did help myself to some "Horsey" sauce and some Hot BBQ sauce... The sandwiches were great; but, a little worse for wear having been in the car for nearly an hour. Beefy King is a small stand-alone restaurant that's been around for a while (over 50 years!), and they just do quality food with good service. No frills with fancy plating or hipster decor. They just do what they do well. Their sauces are good too - bbq and horsey. My friend also ordered tater tots, and I probably ended up eating half. Always consistent no matter how much time in between visits. the same smiling faces, friendly people, awesome food. I don't get there as often as I used but when I can, it brings back special memories of when my daughter and I first moved here 30 + years ago) and we discovered this place, and then when my grandson was born we started taking him there as well. One of the oldest restaurants still in operation in Orlando. That is a statement within itself. So many great places come and go but Beefy King remains through it all. They are unpretentious with a retro vibe inside from wood paneling and clown (yes clown) decor hanging from the ceiling. Want fries ? Go elsewhere....this is a TOTS place. Fresh cooked and sliced to order delicious roast beef sandwiches that are sm/med/large not on size but the amount of meat you get on your bun. What a great and honest concept. I've heard time and time again that Beefy King is a must go too local staple that has been around for years. After four years of being in Orlando, I finally made my way over to Beefy King for lunch. I ended up getting the two meet sandwich with bbq beef and pork, it was not what I was expecting to say the least. It was a bit like a sloppy joe, which is what it reminded me of. The sauce was good, flavorful, spicy, but didn't leave me craving more. I also got a side of onion rings...which were honestly mediocre, they looked like Publix brand onion rings that were overpriced for the amount you receive, a bit flavorless, I dipped them into the hot sauce to get them a bit more flavor. My boyfriend got the pastrami sandwich and raved about how good it is, and how it's his favorite thing to get with the hot sauce. The service was extremely fast, and the workers were friendly. I will give them that, they were so busy when we went in, so I was impressed with how fast everything came out. Though I wouldn't say this is the best sandwich I've had, I think I'll come back another time and try something else. The outcome?...a community outreach to the heart and soul of the Milk District of Orlando that would bring business back and better than ever. Whether you're from a small town like me or the big city...we all have that "staple". The one meal that is so damn good and hard to live without. The one that you often dream about. The one that you get other people addicted to as well (they know who they are). This ladies and gentleman is a TRUE staple. The history and legacy of this place alone will bring you right to its vintage "Beefy King" sign - a lighthouse of sorts - that beckons you home. It's now 52 years since opening and business hasn't slowed down a bit. Upon arriving at the holy sanctuary that is Beefy, you'll notice a lunchtime crowd of locals, a line for the drive through window and a rather difficult parking situation. But alas, it does not matter! It's all worth it in the end. When entering you will be warmly greeted by the friendly and wholesome staff EVERY time. And as you look around at the nostalgic 60's glass panes and the (historical) hanging clowns tucked up in the corners, you'll wonder, "what the hell kind of place is this?". The answer: A great one. The prices?...very reasonable. Around $10 per person. This is a bonafide LUNCH spot. Hours are short so keep that in mind 10am to 3:30pm most days. Drive through window open til 5:30pm most days. Closed Sunday. The go-to items for me...Large beef sandwich (with extra cheese), coke, and a large order of spuds (aka: tator tots - the BEST tator tots). They also have corned beef, pastrami, ham, and turkey as alternatives....but (at least for me) it's all about the BEEF! Now then, once you've (hopefully) found a table and stolen all their bottles of delicious horseradish and ketchup...it's time to dig in. Between those hot crispy tator tots and decedent, tender bites of the beef sandwich you will drift away to a state of Nirvana. Wash it down with some Coke and you've now solved life's mysteries. P.S. I have not been to Beefy King since this pandemic began. And I keep forgetting about the drive thru. So in between the NCAA Basketball Championship games, I had some errands to run. The drive thru here at Beefy King is always busy. So expect to wait. I only had two cars in front of me, so the wait was not as long as I thought. As I waited, someone was stocking the drive thru with condiments, cups, and everything else. The dining room is open, but as I said, the drive thru is always busy. I imagine that has to be stocked up throughout the day. I always get the meal deal. A extra large roast beef with a small Beefy spuds (tater tots) and a small drink. I remember when I was in elementary school. The cafeteria served tater tots with everything! So let's get some tots for the inner child! This time, however, I decided to get an order of onion rings. Which are really good and crisp. No need to tell you about the roast beef sandwich because you never get a bad sandwich here. With the extra large sandwich, rings, and a large beverage, the total came to $9.85. But taking a bite into a Beefy King sandwich after not being here in such a long time was fantastic. Tastes just as good as on the last visit. Which seemed like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I will eventually come in here again and have lunch in the dining room. When ever I'm craving some fast food, this is my number one stop and option in town. Their beef sandwich with cheese and onion is one of my favorite food options, point. Period. I love them so much I even bought a shirt and wear it proudly. Now back to the experience: The service is fantastic, everyone is kind and patient. The food is high quality and mouth drooling delicious. My mouth is watering right now thinking about it. The bread is just simple white bread roll but it's exactly what pairs well with the perfectly seasoned and tender beef slices. You can get this sandwich a few ways, "all the way" means lettuce and tomato, there a cheese and onion version which is my favorite like stated prior and just a simple roast beef sandwich with nothing on top. They have condiments for you to use like the standard mustard, ketchup and mayo but they also have their own homemade bbq sauces to choose from. I prefer their spiciest bbq with mayo and mustard. They have a turkey option as well and it's ok but their name is "Beefy King" not "Turkey King" so stick to ordering what their named after. I pair mine with tots which come out perfectly crispy. If you're a native or passing through town, this place worth the visit. The ONLY knock I have on the place is that it has wonky hours of operations. Closed on Sunday and Monday and only open a few hours 10-5:30 tue-fri, 10-3 on Saturday. I've driven there on Sundays a bunch of times just craving something to cure my hangover and felt absolutely depressed to remember it's Sunday. I think the limited opportunity to grab a sandwich kind of adds to the value of the experience in a way. Atmosphere - Simple, nothing fancy and straight forward. Def a working man's no frills feel. Now let me just say that the tots were very good and ultimately saved the meal. The staff was also very friendly and they seemed to be properly following COVID-19 safety protocols. However, the roast beef sandwich was reminiscent of something I would have been served in the school cafeteria in 5th grade. The meat was bland and the bread it was served on was gross and soggy. Last time I was there I had a turkey deluxe and it was delicious. We also had chili cheese tots, but the chili made the tots soggy. Well that was delicious! We've been wanting to try Beefy King since a friend recommended it a while ago. We both had Pastrami combos, regular size which comes with your drink & tots. The pastrami was thinly sliced & heaped on, no condiment was necessary for the full flavor experience. We shared a 2 by 2 table with a super nice mom & daughter. The daughter was a "Beefy King" baby with her baby picture, from 24 years ago, on the wall & sitting right underneath it. How cool. We'll be back. Let's put it this way- there is a reason there is not a successful Arby's in downtown Orlando. And that reason is Beefy King. Every local knows, this place is a must-go. Their food is exceptional. The buns are tender and soft, the meat on the inside is steamed to perfection, the cheese melted down into the layers. They wrap the sandwich in tin foil and it keeps the moist, steamy goodness all wrapped up with that incredible flavor. Don't even get me started on the spuds. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they are what I look forward to eating the most. Try ordering au jus sauce with your meal- pour it into the layers of the sandwich, and you'll be completely satisfied. Yes, it's pretty outdated. Yes, you have to go outside, around the drive through, to get to the bathroom. But all of this just adds to the mystique/charm of this little Orlando gem. You can't go to BK and not order a roast beef sandwich. You simply can't. I'm not even a huge fan of roast beef, but even I can agree that these folks know what they're doing. Get out of here with your fries! It's all about the tater tot at this lunch haven. And boy do those tots hit the spot! It goes without saying that this isn't a 'healthy, light lunch' option.
