Bees ferry use to be the best veterinarian in west Ashley, however that has changed now. The practice was bought by a conglomerate and now the practice cares more about making money, pushing unnecessary treatments and wellness visits on animals. If you disagree with them the staff/ Vet will write a medical note to cover their own ass loaded with misinformation. I had a hard time finding another vet because of what they wrote in a voice message left for me. Completely untrue. They are also much more expensive than other vets. I write this review with a heavy heart and I advise not to use them. read more

We moved here from Houston in June and were searching for an exceptional Vet. We have had 7 Springer Spaniels during 33 years. We currently have Hogan, male, b/w, 13 years old and Roxie, female, tri color, 6 years old. My initial meeting was with Ariel Imler Smith, DVM and she was terrific! Kind, professional, knowledgeable and she put our Roxies at ease. I knew we had chosen the perfect Vet Clinic. Roxie needed a dental cleaning and removal of a cracked tooth. Dr Snider stepped in. She did a wonderful job extracting the tooth and found a loose molar that had not been detected from our Houston vet. all was taken care of and we are relieved. Also, it was obvious that she was perfectly medicated and when we picked her up she was not over medicated. No more rawhide chews for our pups. When I pushed for answers without cussing, raising my voice or anything hostile I was told that my pets and I are not welcome anymore. Do not use this Vet! Recently, one of our pups was treated for an ear infection (meds sent home & told we needed to schedule a deep cleaning of the ear with a different Dr. office in Mt. Pleasant.) After our visit we received a text mesg asking how the dog was doing. We called and explained that the ear was not better yet, explained the ear cleaning had been scheduled but was 4 weeks out and asked for how to proceed if the ear got worse before then. We received a typed up mesg from Dr. Morgan basically telling us there was nothing she could do. She insisted the dog had to be off all meds prior to the consult. We contacted the ear cleaning Dr. and verified with them that our dog could be on meds up until 48 hours before the consult (they were not even performing the cleaning that day) and tried to share this with Bees Ferry but they basically left us hanging. The Dr. never called us to try and explain verbally, nobody at the front desk ever followed up on med refill requests and the front desk staff was rude. When our dogs ear did get worse I called again and because the staff was so rude I ended up asking the receptionist why they were so irritated at us and she replied that she was not rude just "blunt". There's definitely some communication issues here & a feeling that they do not need or want the business. To only get texts & typed messages can get confusing. To have a dog visibly in pain and to call for help or guidance on how to care for our dog and be treated like this is strange & unprofessional and in no way being compassionate to the animal. We were never offered another appointment or a follow-up or a phone call from the Dr or anyone. We would have done anything, spent any amount of money to get our dog comfortable until she sees the other Dr. in 2 weeks but they would not help us. We ended up going to a new vet, explaining the situation, the dog is now on meds which we will stop 2 days prior to the ear cleaning consultation (giving the dermatologist the ability to do a culture or whatever). And now we need a new primary for our family of dogs :( read more

Still absolutely love this vet. I bring my dog and cat here. They handle both so gently and make my pets feel comfortable before doing any check ups. Each doctor is throuough and never makes me feel rushed. They answer all my questions and always provide additional information to take home. The staff is also wonderful. They're always so polite and ready to help. They are so helpful when it comes to scheduling. They offer fantastic hours and can always get us in when it's convenient for us. We just started taking our dog here last year when a friend recommended them and couldn't be happier with the service! Our dog just had his first dental cleaning in his life and I was really nervous about the anesthesia but they reassured me and walked me through the entire process, and it all went well. They are so sweet to my dog which I obviously also appreciate! I also appreciate that after his annual checkup the vet will call us up to walk us through an explanation of the test results, even when the results all come back great with no concerns! Our med bills and prescriptions bill have become quite high as our puppies age. And then one had to allowed to cross the rainbow bridge. Was rude to my wife. They completely messed up our dogs trifex renewal. Did not tell us we needed to have an appointment. Found out over weekend they didn't send the prescription to pharmacy as promised and cited we needed to bring our dog in. We then couldnt get an appointment before our dog was due for her next dose. Their only compromise was to overpay $50 for a single dose of Trifexus (in contrast 6 costs $100-110 from Costco) to get by until then. Essentially price gauging over the situation they put us in. On top of that horrible service & cannot take criticism. They don't want us to come back but we're absolutely on the same page. They're over-priced and incompetent. I've had enough with them. My first time visiting and brought my cat in for a specific issue regarding hair loss. I told them 3 times about why I was there. They instead wanted to put him on heart worm medication, flea medication, get him blood work, get a fecal sample etc. Was never asked "yes or no" on any of these recommendations, they just added them to the quote anyways. Then get asked "is there anything else you needed?" Yes! the very specific reason I came here STILL needs to be addressed. Felt very money hungry when I saw my first quote at $650 dollars... Just didn't feel genuine at all when my cats needs weren't addressed until after they covered all their "recommendations". Then it gets awkward when SURPRISE, I simply can't afford more than half that quote. I get it but, i felt there was just no intention of pure care for my animal. :( I do not want to come back home and feel like I can't afford to take care of my own cat. read more

Taken both my pets here a few times. Will not be bringing them back. Today one of the staff at the front desk decided to go full Karen and harass me about wearing a mask. Been here several times, never once been bothered about a mask at any visit, but today a bored receptionist felt the need to cross the magical distance of 6ft, beyond which aerosol particles dare not suspend, to tell me I had to wear a mask or go outside, as I was sitting alone in a corner waiting to check in my pet. When I first came in, there was another maskless pet owner in the lobby with his dog. I watched him comically slide his stubborn pup over to a side room for his visit, afterwhich Karen Karen'd all over me and my poor cat (who was also not wearing a mask because she takes umbrage with statistically insignificant compromised studies that rely on self-reported data as a means to enforce a broad public policy of forced masking). A little while later the man came out of the room, still maskless, unmolested by Karen, and left. She never once said a word to him. Another win for the patriarchy. When I came to pick up my pet later on, sitting in my car waiting for them to bring her out (since women with uncovered faces are not allowed inside), I observed a different member of their staff with his mask hanging off of his mouth. My man wasn't even trying! It was like he wanted to breathe or something. We have been coming here for over a year and a half and unfortunately our most recent visit will be our last. Before our pup was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, we took him in to get his growth looked it on his lower lip. Dr. Ellis agreed that they could go in and take the "mass" out and get the margins they needed. So we paid $850 for the surgery. Post surgery, they sent the "mass" out for further testing that week and we were told the doctor would have a response to us. On the eighth day we called to check in and were told that the results were in but we had to wait for a doctor or nurse to review the results and that they would have someone get back to us by COB. We never received a call. So we called again the following day to see what was going on-Still no one was able to give us any information until we could speak to a doctor. Finally we got the call to review the results and Doctor Ellis mentioned that she couldn't hit the margins on the lip and referred us to the oncologist for further assessment and treatment. Long story short, we visited the oncologist that we were referred to and they said they could easily hit the margins but recommended that he went through the surgery AGAIN to make sure that all the cells were removed. This time for nearly $3,000! We spoke with Marshall at Bee's Ferry, the clinic manager and they stood by their decision and refused to offer any money back. This is after our dog has to go through the SAME surgery for the SECOND time and paying THREE times the amount we originally paid. Why not refer us to a specialist to begin with if they knew it was potentially cancerous or not comfortable with hitting the margins they needed? Their excuse was that if they referred everyone they wouldn't have any business....Complete disregard for our dog undergoing this again and the money we wasted here. read more

Not a very good place to take your cat to.. they try to "play?" with them like a dog by poking them in the sides and making this obnoxious noise ? Ok cats don't like that. I don't even think dogs like that. They said he was being cranky when he was literally sitting perfectly still while he got shots. No nails, no growling, no nothing. Took my friend's yorkie/terrier mix, also her service dog, there. At the time everything seemed fine. She was told he had a very contagious disease and bronchitis. Never heard about the so called disease and bronchitis is not contagious. He was given an antibiotic and another written prescription for his cough. When taken to get it filled, the veterinarian's DEA # wasn't even on the script. We had to call them to have them give the number to the pharmacy. THEN, when the pharmacy looked up the medication, it's not even used anymore. This was on Saturday, so now the poor dog will have to suffer all weekend. Great job...not. Never go to this veterinarian's clinic. read more

Called them with a terminally ill dog, cried and cried over the phone. He vet came to the phone to talk to me and told me to just come in no appointment needed and they had never met me or our dog before. I arrived 15minutes later and they had a real bed made for her sheets and quilt and everything. Picked her up and carried her from the car room had low lighting a candle and soft music they brought me a water and box of Kleenex. Vet laid with her in the floor with me and pet her for an hour before she started the medicine so she wasn't scared. Hardest decision to let your dog go but it was time and the encouragement I received from the staff was unmeasurable. Will never go anywhere else. read more

I've been coming here for a couple years. They do a decent job and the staff is friendly. We decided to switch after knowingly being price gouged for the last several visits. They told me I needed to come in for and subsequently charged me for, an emergency visit. My dog needed eye drops. And it easily could have waited another day. While I was there they also asked about kennel cough vaccine, as she goes to the kennel occasionally. I said 'she just got it I'm pretty sure', then told me she was due for another. I refused as I had just dropped $700 dollars on a previous visit and was being raked for another $200 already. I pulled my dogs medical records at the house and my wife had had the kennel cough shot done a month to the day prior. BFV had those records. It's a 6-12 month shot. I hope they find an ethical medium here that is acceptable. We are switching vets. It's really atrocious to take advantage of people like that. Buyer beware. read more

While I don't think Bees Ferry is the worst vet you could go to, my family will definitely not being using them any longer and will be getting care at another practice. Our initial new patient appointment went off without a hitch and we were thoroughly impressed with the service. Our second appointment, an emergency basis with our English bully was good as well, minus the cost. We were thankful to be seen last minute on a Friday evening as well as receive a follow up the next morning. Where my issue lays is with our third appointment for our Shar Pei, another last minute appointment, with what seemed like a serious respiratory infection. The vet tech and dr we worked with were incredibly pushy, and judgmental regarding everything we said about our dog. Choice in food? wrong. Choice in training? wrong. choice in boarding? wrong. Needless to say we left feeling discouraged and attacked after everything we thought we had been doing right to take care of her. They also accused us of being neglectful parents when we mentioned she had lost weight while training, to which we had assured they we knew of and we're not concerned of Since it was only five lbs and had been eating normally since being back home. When the issue got worse the following day we called to ask the dr about new symptoms and never received a call back. The following day after that and symptoms had again become worse, we we're disregarded, told the note to the dr had never been sent, and to just go to the er vet instead. Mind you, they never swabbed her for infection or bothered to look at her lungs. After all that, turns out the medication they had prescribed her was also wrong for the "diagnosis" they had given us, and had to get swapped out for a new one from an entirely different vet. read more

I would give five stars but the wait is excruciating. My appointment was at 12:15 and I didn't get taken back until 12:40. I would recommend late afternoon appointments if you work a r 8-5, I tried to do lunch break and it has ruined my whole work day. Other than that, this is a great group of women. Their caring nature towards our pups is greatly appreciated. They are very thorough and gentle. They wait and let your dog smell everything before the exam and are very patient and calm with anxious pups. My dog is usually high strung in new environments, but the vet techs put her at such ease by taking their time and talking to her that she later right down at my feet calmly. Their pharmacy is online which is very convenient. You don't have to remember to buy heartworm meds, they can be set up from online. Love the location, love the staff, hate the wait! read more

Their hours are great but I'm pretty upset at how they charge more than triple for antiobiotics/meds than they sell them for on Chewy.com. I feel that's taking advantage of pet owners who are already in a tough situation with a sick pet and facing an unexpected vet bill. My fur child was puking while on an anti nausea medicine. I knew this was serious, and I have been less than thrilled with my current vet as they seem to rush us out and not listen nor care about the health of my pets. A coworker advised she had nothing but great things to say about Bees Ferry so that is where I took my kiddos. I called and asked to be squeezed in to have both my dogs seen and without hesitation they told me to come on in. When I arrived they were all extremely friendly and their love for animals is very easy to see! They spent a lot of time asking about any and all concerns I have with either dog. They gave them treats and toys and played on the floor with them! The vets first words were "you have a beautiful family!" And she proceeded to greet my dogs before me ... I LOVED that. She knelt down and while still playing advised me to tell her everything I knew about each pet. I was so happy to have someone who cared and wanted to fully listen and diagnose the issues at hand. They also offer a rewards program - as I am a penny pincher I am all about saving money, plus 1% of what you spent is donated and that's really nice as I don't know anywhere else that does that! For being squeezed in, they did not hesitate to spend over 30 minutes listening to everything I had to say from how I got the pup to the current issues at hand. My dog has been coming here since he was a small puppy (he's 1 1/2 now). It was time for his annual check up, which included three different shots. I called ahead for the appointment, and although it had somehow slipped off of their calendar, they had room in the schedule to fit me in and the wait was minimal. Once in the exam room, the vet tech got down to my dogs level and made friends with him before starting any kind of exam, which is always good to do, both with dogs and kids. Next in came Dr Bush, who administered the shots, and she was very friendly and gentle, both with my dog and my emotions. She took some blood and gave him the shots, and although he did struggle a little bit, another vet tech was there to comfortably hold him. He was rewarded with a tennis ball when they were done, and he instantly forgave everyone. Dr Bush even shared pictures of her dog with me and at my request, is going to email me the puppy picture they have of my boy on their computer, which I don't have a copy of. BFVH also has a rewards program (for a fee) which gives you a complimentary exam each year (saved me almost $60 yesterday) and many other additional services, including a free nail trim in the month of my birth (for his nails, not mine). read more

Never purchase anything from their website! I made an online purchase (paying online) and got the items delivered to my house. Then they tried to make me pay for it a second time at my next visit, charging me double. They said I had to prove I paid online. (What?!) I sent them the receipt which I shouldn't have had to do. Now I'm getting bills in the mail. I will not be back. Update: I finally have my balance to zero after many attempts to get this resolved. I'll tell ya, not one apology or acknowledgement for accountability whatsoever from them. Had I not been paying attention and just paid them what they said I owed or my husband paid a bill that came in the mail we would be spending $600 extra dollars for this oversight. I will say that the people on the phone were a bit defensive. Again not one apology. That's pretty poor. They were able to work us in as an appointment rather than bringing us in as an emergency to save costs when I came in with a sick pup, which definitely gets a thumbs up in book. But rather than ask me if I wanted certain food/prescriptions, they just gave me everything and expected me to pay for it. I'd rather discuss the way forward than feel as if I'm being pressured to do something someone else's way. Especially if I'm willing to do something different, but just as acceptable, in the best interest of my dog. This also happened the first time I brought in my dogs for a wellness check up as well. Rather than offer to write me a prescription for a generic that I could have filled anywhere, they went ahead and gave me meds, which of course means I paid way more than if I had gotten them filled at a pharmacy (tramadol was the script, so I know it's available elsewhere). I've also been pre-charged for services that weren't performed with the expectation that I'd bring back a sample for them to test. I have not been happy with the Vet we had been to here in Charleston. So I found a new vet near by and called to see if I could get him in not only today, but after 5 pm. From the moment Megan answered the phone, I had a great feeling...AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED and they got us in within 30 minutes! From check in to check out, every staff member we encountered was FANTASTIC!!!! My only regret is not getting everyone's name! Love love LOVE this place! I've never had a problem with the staff not listening, or doing something that I asked them not to. Everyone is very nice, the facility is in excellent condition and Dr. Ellis is the best. (I'm sure they're all great, we've only seen Dr. Ellis.) I just currently moved to Charleston about 2 months ago and I haven't been more satisfied with a vets office in the 5 years I've had my doxie. She has IVDD and I wanted to get her set up with a vets office as soon as possible when we moved. I called and she was in the very next day! They even have rooms specifically for cats.
