Check out was simple, just leaving our keys in the room. We enjoyed the scone breakfast every morning and the simple but kind hospitality provided by the inn staff. There are no TVs or fridges in the room but there is a communal fridge on property. There is shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion in all the rooms and makeup wipes. They provide fresh towels daily if needed as the climate tends to not dry things in just one day. They also have an electric car charger if one is needed and ice. The parlor is a step back in time with coffee and tea and open 24/7 for guest use. They also provided in the afternoon - upon our arrival on a Saturday (not sure if this is the norm but a great touch!) The inn is right off of highway 1 but wasn't too loud, although could depend which room you stay. It is also walkable to parts of town about a quarter mile if you're willing. They provided flashlights as well if you go out at night- a nice touch! And I do recommend to see stars in unpolluted night sky! Lovingly built by the property owners, every square inch of the space shows the care with which they planned for their guests' comfort and convenience, as well as their ability to create an ambiance of comfortable elegance and luxury. The cottage is spacious and airy, with a loft ceiling and numerous windows. Abundant hedges and trees screen it from the owner's home and the driveway, making it completely private, while allowing easy access to the owners in case of need (none arose while we were there). Diane and Bob are excellent hosts, providing as much or as little interaction as the guests wish (but do get to know them - they are lovely people and so knowledgeable about the area that you will want to take advantage of their insider's scoops and stories). Diane provided us with fresh flowers from her beautiful garden throughout our stay, just one of the special touches that made this experience so exceptional. As for the all-important location, you couldn't ask for better. The cottage is conveniently located within easy driving distance to both Mendocino and Fort Bragg (galleries, shopping, dining), which also puts it within easy distance of a number of state parks and natural areas that offer hiking and beach access. And the property backs onto Russian Gulch State Park, with its lovely year-round waterfall a nice short hike away. Can you tell we loved it here? We can't wait to return!

We finally got to stay at Blair House Inn this November (2023). We stayed in Angela's suite and loved the old Victorian charm of the house. It was closed for a while for renovations, so I was glad to see they were booking stays again. Our suite had a four poster bed, a sitting room with a great view of Mendocino and the ocean in the distance. The bathroom is unique and charming. If it's not original, it certainly feels like it. The entire suite was welcoming, comfortable and clean. What better way for me to spend my birthday weekend than getting to stay exactly where I wanted: The house that served as Jessica Fletcher's house in fictional Cabot Cove, Maine. Looking for peace and quiet? There are plenty of books to read about Mendocino or Angela Lansbury in Blair House, both in the suite and the charming hallway that looks like Jessica could have just stepped out. There also are additional books in the bookcase in Angela's suite--mostly mystery, as far as I could tell. As the innkeeper told me when booking, it's not Jessica Fletcher's house on the inside. The house was only used for exterior shots. I told her I knew -- she just didn't want people to be disappointed. It didn't stop my spouse and for making private jokes about who might be next to die in Cabot Cove. Helen, the innkeeper, is kind and made sure we were comfortable during our stay. Thanks for the pleasant experience! One thing to note: You cannot directly book a room from the website. You will need to call. I highly recommend Blair House Inn. You don't have to be a fan to enjoy this lovely historic home. But you will certainly enjoy it if you are.

She led us back out into the yard and along a windy leafy path lit by fairylights through the redwoods. Words can't really do this experience justice - it's like something out of Lord of the Rings (in a good way)! At the end of the path (only 30 yards, feels further because of the twists and turns) is nestled Marilyn's yurt in a redwood clearing. Inside is a double air bed (v comfortable), 2 Layzee boys, a piano and lots and lots of space. It's huge. We were worried it might be cold but the heater took care of that. And you are literally surrounded by redwoods. Outside there's a little bench we sat on where you can gaze up at the stars through a gap in the towering trees. The only downsides are that there is no bathroom (there's an outhouse 20 yards away in the woods as well as a potty set up for nigh + access to a bathroom in the house) and you aren't allowed food in the yurt to keep animals at bay. But how often do you get to stay in a yurt in the redwoods??? And all this is only 2 miles from downtown Mendocino with restaurants etc galore... Finally, Marilyn was a great host, explaining things and providing local info when we needed it and leaving us alone when we didn't. Overall our weekend was great (and over all too soon) and we definitely hope to return...

We loved the hot tub over looking the ocean, at night you could listen to the waves and watch the stars (as well as watch the ocean, we were there during a full moon and WOW!) , during the day you could watch the ocean and enjoy the sound of seabirds. The master bedroom is amazing! It has a beautiful wood bed with a puffy soft mattress and bedding that envelops you in snugly warmth. The view! Wow! When you look out the window you would swear you were floating on the ocean. The window is close enough to the cliff that you can't see anything but gorgeous ocean going on for miles and miles. (the website says "Perched 70 feet above sea level") There is a gorgeous 50" Satellite Plasma TV in the master bedroom also. This is the first place I have ever stayed that was so incredibly private I didn't worry about what I was wearing or not wearing while there. The kitchen was fully stocked with a Microwave, Toaster oven, Coffee Maker & Grinder, Toaster, refrigerator, stove, and oven as well as cooking & dining utensils. It was a very friendly feeling atmosphere, it made you feel like people had been coming there on their vacations for years and had just left behind the utensils they prefer. We found several great tea strainers and I think we left a few things including some good tea behind for the next person. The master bath room was stunning! It had a large walk-in shower for 2 (4 or 5 really) I loved the material used on the walls and floor, as well as the design of the shower. I was totally amazed by this rental, it is by far the most romantic place I have ever stayed and I can't wait to go back. I'm not sure what price range to rate this in but I'll say that for two nights it runs around $817 - $883
