Husband and I were craving Chinese food and saw this place so decided to stop by and try it. I ordered chicken stir fry noodle and my husband got the fried rice with garlic chicken. The girl that took our purser was nice but not very knowledgeable. We ordered for take out so we were anxious to get home and taste the food. My noodles were not cooked at all, it was all crunchy and dried. It was also mostly vegetables and no chicken nor noodle. I was so sad because I was so excited about trying this place. This place was so bad. I don't know how people eat here. It was our first time trying and certainly our last. So as soon as I walk in the door, I know it's a mistake. It looks like these people live in their restaurant. Clothes and back packs everywhere. Counters piled high with bills and papers. We get seated by a lady who literally does not speak to us so when she walks away we didn't know to follow them she yells at us across the room to come here. We're attended to by a 14 yo girl and she's very polite. The woman brings out our food with her fingers literally dug in my bowl of rice while she's holding it so I know I'm not gonna be eating that now. We look over and a man who I presume is the owner has in sweatpants with one side rolled up, wearing dollar flip flops and a dirty tank top. I get this is a family business but this attire is not appropriate. The food was bad. My friends rice was not fried rice, it was gooey plain white rice. I got the broccoli beef and it had way too much sauce and was watered down but heavily salted. My friends kung pao chicken had maybe 6 pieces of chicken I'm the whole dish and for 13 dollars I would expect more. For the price of this food, I expected better service, better quality and a better atmosphere. read more

This is one of the few restaurants in town that I've visited solely based on positive reviews, and I'm so glad I did. Especially as now my favorite part of the restaurant is no longer available...the sushi. When I walked in, I was planning on eating Chinese, but when I saw they had sushi available, I couldn't resist. I'd tried almost all of the sushi restaurants in Valdosta (omitting only the ones that had bad reviews/reputations), but the quality and skill of Beijing Cafe's sushi chef actually surpassed what I'd been served in much areas such as Atlanta and Savannah. The fish was fresh, and it wasn't served overly cold as a lot of restaurants here are. It should be cool to preserve freshness but when served should be the optimal temp to relay the flavors. If you're eating sushi in a way to not taste the sweetness of the fish and just gulping it down or keeping it icy so it doesn't taste "fishy" then you shouldn't be eating sushi. The cuts he made were superb...wide, long, at an angle...they draped over the molded pieces of rice like a silky negligee. I ordered saba, ikura, hamachi, and sake. The ikura were of a decent quality. Not the firmest I've had but tons better than at Mori's which had ikura that were downright mushy. The rest just melted in my mouth. I also ordered the spicy tuna roll, and the chef's inclusion of crunchy bits of tempura to add texture and crunch was just genius. On top of that, he prepared a lovely sweet cucumber roll as a "cherry on top" move which was an appreciated palate cleanser at the end of the meal. On top of the sushi, I also had the hot and sour soup (hands-down the best I've ever had anywhere...even other places which offer freshly made and not canned...yes, most restaurants used canned versions that they simply reheat) and a wonderful house salad with mixed greens and a fantastic dressing that I just can't put my finger on. Like a more flavorful and less tart version of French maybe, but what really set it off was the bits of crispy shallot. Since then I've learned that the sushi section is closed now as the sushi chef has gone on to other things. A real pity as he was very talented. However, the rest of Beijing Cafe is just as good, and I've since had other wonderful meals there. I highly suggest their combo meals as it's filling and a great bargain...the crispy spring roll is fantastic but their crab and cream cheese wonton is divine. The soup is, of course, sunshine on the tongue, but I always, always order the salad. Make sure you get the shallot sprinkles, and you won't be disappointed. Gourmet Chinese in fast-food minded town. I chose Beijing Cafe out of the other Chinese restaurants in town because I wanted a sit down place for dinner. The other places around here seem more like counter service and mainly take out. Beijing Cafe is located near the mall, next door to CiCi's pizza and Best Buy. Pro: Plenty of vegetarian options, and they have the "good" fried tofu. I say 'good', because some Chinese restaurants just don't know how to fry it up right and make it crispy. This place knows what they're doing. I ordered the Sesame Tofu and my husband got the General Tso Tofu. Both were delicious and came with options of white rice or fried rice. The woman serving us was very friendly and attentive. I also enjoyed the atmosphere, traditional music, and that they had beer and wine. Con: Food was somewhat slow. There weren't many people dining in the restaurant but they had a steady stream of takeout orders, and I suspect they might prioritize takeout. The other con was that the dishes had hardly any vegetables. Literally only one broccoli floret on each of our plates. As a vegetarian, I kind of like vegetables! I wonder if they got tired of the locals not eating the vegetables and having to throw them out. So although I gave it 4/5 stars, this place is a gem. I'll definitely be back, and probably regularly. Our two meals, including beer came out to $26 which is a great deal. As someone who's lived in the northeast, mid atlantic, northwest and now here in the south east, I've tasted my share of Chinese food and would recommend this place. On our way to FL we decided to stop for a sit down lunch. The service was very good and the waitress friendly, even engaging my kids in conversation. We had crab Rangoon for an appetizer and they did not disappoint any of us. Our lunch came out quickly. My husband had Hunan Chicken lunch special and I had chicken w/vegetables. I have known John for the better part of a decade through various outlets. He has never failed to bring the absolute best to every plate he serves. The house lo mein is amazing. The traditional Chinese dishes are as authentic as anything you'll find in the far East, and the full meal presentation with the appetizers is a great value for what you get. What a disappointment - skip this and travel another half mile to Tifton to Saigon Kitchen. Beijing Cafe service was terrible and food was mediocre. Server screwed up every aspect of the order - brought coke and water instead of "cold water." Brought one up of tea - a cheap restaurant teabag for which they charged $2.25. Brought egg drop instead of hot and sour (which was neither hot nor sour). Both dishes were essentially the same (once he replaced the chicken dish with the shrimp dish we ordered ) - garlic sauce and mongolian sauce should not taste the same. Avoid this place. read more

The atmosphere is great. The service is great. The food is reasonably priced and they give large portions. The General Tso Chicken is great. I love the spring rolls and crab rangoon. At the beginning of the meal they serve you fried won ton wrappers with two sauces. AVOID THE MUSTARD It is supposed to be hot mustard but it taste like mustard mixed with bleach or something. The bad part. My friend and I were talked about. The made jokes in their native tongue and laughed. All the while, their eyes would glance over at us. Stopped in here on a Thursday afternoon when the wife said she wanted some Chinese food. This was the first time we'd had Chinese in Valdosta and I think we picked the best place first. Walked in to a nearly empty restaurant which I was sure would mean fast service. I was not disappointed. Our drink orders were taken immediately and delivered right away. I of course had a sweet tea which was good. When we ordered my wife got Kung Pao Chicken, my daughter got the Children's teriyaki chicken, and I got the General Tso Chicken. Our food was out at our table in less then 10 minutes. I'm sure the food is semi-pre cooked with sauces probably just needing to be added to meats. That's fine with me though it's still delicious! The food didn't have an excessive amount of vegetables on and very little meat like you see in some restaurants. The plate was pretty much all meat which was perfect. The fried rice was perfect too, none of the extra crap in the rice just plain and simple fried rice with maybe one vegetable in the rice but not sure what it was (maybe bamboo shoots or onion?). Everyone really enjoyed their food and we can't wait to go back and try a few more items when the craving for Chinese hits again. read more

Got take-out from the Beijing Café a couple of weeks ago. I tried to go for one of the traditional Chinese dishes with some spice to it (I love spicy food). My dish was flavorful, but not spicy at all! I upgraded to the menu where you also get spring rolls and a soup. Spring rolls were pretty good. I didn't even eat the soup - I ordered the egg white soup (or something like that), and it might be that I just don't like soup with eggs in it, but it was slimy, and didn't have much flavor other than regular broth. If I ever go back here, I would definitely chose something else from the menu. read more

How did Valdosta, GA get so lucky as to have this restaurant? This is not your typical USA Chinese Restaurant, nor a Chinese Restaurant-in-a-Box, nor does it serve the typical all-you-can-eat Americanized Chinese Buffet food. My credentials include: Living in the San Fransisco Bay Area (and frequenting its Chinatown, world and Asian travel sampling local cuisines, and sampling Asian food across the US. Beijing Cafe serves authentic Chinese food. It is excellent. Period. We had seafood and meat dishes and several appetizers. All excellent. We spoke to the owner for about 20 minutes and he has a historical knowledge of Chinese food in America and has consulted with numerous restaurants in the country. Again, this is not your typical Americanized Chinese place, rather real thing. Valdosta, you are incredibly lucky to have such a top class Chinese business I town. read more

i have no desire to return to this place. based on the other reviews (all of which have given beijing cafe five stars), i know i'm probably risking a lynching by saying this, but i was highly unimpressed with the beijing cafe. the food was just not good at all. the service was a little dodgy. the decor, not so nice (cigarette burns in my booth!). i came for lunch on a tuesday. i was seated immediately and the waitress came over right away. she took my drink order and said she'd be back in a few minutes. i perused the menu and the first thing that impressed me was the price. nothing was over $6.45. total score! i seriously don't think you can get ANYTHING in DC for that price (including water), so i was stoked to see that i'd be having a cheap lunch. after i decided what to order (shrimp and broccoli), i looked over at the waitress, who stared me straight in the eye, and then turned away and ignored me. this happened twice. huh? isn't the whole point of the restaurant biz to turn tables -- get people in and out as quickly as possible. anyway, she finally came over. my lunch came with choice of soup (egg drop) and an egg roll. about 15 seconds after the waitress took my order, she came back with another waitress, who asked me again for my order. i repeated it, verbatim. why are they taking my order twice? no clue. maybe i whispered and the first waitress was embarassed to ask me to speak up . . . ? anyway . . . the food came very quickly. the soup was tasty, and came with those fun crispy thing-a-ma-bobbies (like crackers or something). then came my entree, and this is where it really all went to heck. the fried rice had NO FLAVOR whatsoever. none. i kept trying to detect a flavor, and i couldn't come up with anything. but no mind -- i moved onto the egg roll. holy schmokes -- it seriously tasted like it was a toilet paper roll fresh out of the freezer. cardboard-y, no flavor. not fun. ok, so let's move on to the entree (shrimp and broccoli). the broccoli was crisp and seemed fresh. the shrimp were decent size and there were plenty of them, but they were a little tough (overcooked). the kicker, though, was the sauce for the entree. i swear to god i could've filled a liter bottle with the sauce! each forkful had sauce dripping off of it. so i literally had to pick up the food piece by piece, let it drip for about 15 seconds to get some of the sauce off, and then i could eat it. just totally overpowering -- it could've been styrofoam peanuts and i wouldn't have known the difference, since the whole plates was drowning in sauce. i give this place two stars because i didn't get violently ill, and i was in and out relatively quickly. and the price was decent -- not much more than a fast food meal. but i'm sorry to say that valdosta has a long way to go if beijing cafe is supposed to be the best chinese food in the city. read more

Having grown up in China and traveled all over the world before coming to the south, I cannot say how disappointed I am with the so-called Chinese food in this place. I went there three times, and asked the waiting staff specifically for something authentic, but with no success so far. The first two times the food was so bad, and I swear I can cook much better than this place. The third time it was a little better, but still far from authentic. My Taiwanese friend thinks the nearby little town Jasper even has better Chinese food than this, and she will not even bother to get anything Chinese around here. Given the standard of Chinese food in the area, it is better to cook at home. If people give this place a 4 star, then I should be voted a 6-star Chinese chef myself :) read more

While driving down to Florida Christmas day we wanted to get dinner but most places were closed. We were near Valdosta so I decided to do a search for Chinese food and came upon this place. Since it was only a few miles ahead and had good reviews decided to give it a try. Turns out it was packed, food was great and owners very accommodating. I asked how they ended up in of all places Valdosta and they said ten years ago they were driving down to Florida and happened to stop. Saw an abandoned Chinese restaurant and one thing led to another. Glad it did. read more

You have to try the hot & sour soup and the salt & pepper shrimp. The lettuce wraps are pretty tasty too. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, not elaborately decorated, but the food is certainly not what you expect to find in a strip shopping area next to a Ci Ci's Pizza (yuck). read more
