Let me say this first, I gave 2 stars because the waitresses are super nice. Or else it would be 1 star. Old run down buffet with soggy food. My son wanted to try it so we went. My daughter and I don't like buffets so we made sure they had a menu as well. My daughter is 11 and doesn't eat much so I ordered a pint of chicken and broccoli for her. I was told I could not order a pint, just a quart. I asked why there were pint prices on the menu. She said it was only for takeout orders. Well, if you can put it in a box, why can't you put it on a plate? It isn't like we weren't ordering get other food. I don't like a business that seems like they are scamming you for more money. I've been here dozens of times, and it's always a good experience. The staff is lovely, the food is delicious, and there are always good options. As with any buffet, if you go during a slow time (in between lunch and dinner, during the week, etc.) then obviously the food will not be as fresh, and that can't be helped. Keep that in mind when planning your visit, as the food will always be hottest/freshest during dinner time and on weekends. read more

Being that today was the Chinese New Year, my husband and I thought it fitting to get Chinese food. Normally, we would order from our local takeout, but we had a few errands to run at Walmart and decided to try the buffet next door. The sign out front should have been our first instinct that it wouldn't be that great, but often times a buffet seems to have half their sign lit. We walked in and were immediately sat, but next to a table with dirty dishes stacked on it. The room felt kind of drab or depressing, but we didn't care, as we normally wouldn't take note of that.. especially at a buffet. Personally, I love Chinese food, and I'm an even bigger fan of Chinese buffets.. but this one really had me depressed within 5 minutes being in there. Small selection, mislabeled food, and frankly, the food didn't even taste good. We tried several different things hoping that SOMETHING would taste good. Ok, maybe the bourbon chicken, but even that was pretty dry. Nothing was seasoned and it was all heavily saturated in oil. We were worried our trip to Walmart would be dashed because our stomachs were already starting to grumble. We couldn't leave fast enough. The thing that had us both laughing (in shock, really) is all the framed signs at the checkout counter claiming this was the best Chinese food restaurant -rated by Valdosta Daily Times -several years in a row, I might add. There's no way we will ever come here again. So disappointed, honestly. I so badly wanted this to be a great new find, but sadly- this is the worst place we've tried since moving to Valdosta a year ago. Place your sushi order, then judiciously select a few items from the buffet to nibble while you wait on your sushi. Consume sushi. Order more sushi. Nibble more. Retrieve sushi. Eat sushi. Lather, rinse, repeat. I highly recommend the spicy salmon roll. Bestill, my beating heart! If you're looking for a cost-effective meal, this is the way to go. 2. If you really don't give a damn about the price and want a full-on sushi feast, order sushi from the carry-out menu. They have a huge selection of rolls, and so far, I've only had one I didn't like. Yep, I got a bit adventurous and ordered the oshinku roll. Pickled radish. Who knew? BLEH! Not their fault, though, that my taste buds said REJECT. The mexican roll and spicy girl roll are my favorites from the carry-out menu. There's another that I can't recall the name of, but it involves salmon and spicy sauce, and it's wrapped in cucumber with some sort of vinegar for dipping. HEAVEN. The buffet food is pretty damn good, as far as buffet food goes. Nothing I'd really rave about or advise against, but it's more than edible and if you go at dinner time, the crab legs are plentiful. This is the place to go for Chinese food in Valdosta !! The food is always fresh and hot. The sushi is made to order and is very good. The owners a gentleman and his wife are the most friendliest people, as well as the waitress staff. Tracy is the best ! The only con I have is the sushi chefs are always rude and want say a word to you, just nods their head in response to what you ask for. Even when I tried to compliment them they still show no gratitude. I suggest to improve the owners might need to consider hiring a different sushi chef. Overall I would highly recommend eating here ! Always go with your first instinct. I have been here before a little over a year ago and the flavors were good and the restaurant seemeed busier. This evening it was like a ghost town and the flavors show why. Bland is an overstatement. I would have given a higher rating considering the food is usually pretty good and relatively fresh but I just recently had an experience in which led me to a conclusion that i had rather not eat there again. If I was ever in the mood for Chinese takeout, this was always my go to place. recently ,I visited to get a plate to go and upon returning to the counter with my full plate and ready to check out, I walk up to the cashier with his back turned and he is blowing his nose very vigorously into a kleenex. He then proceeds to start digging into his nose with the kleenex and does so for about a 30 seconds. Eventually he turns around to grab my plate and ring me up and the whole time im thinking "im about to waste $11, because there is no way I am eating this now". I'm not usually one to eat at buffets but this is one that I LOVE and will return to over and over again. The food is always hot a fresh. You can get 2 rolls of fresh made sushi at dinner and 1 at lunch, yum! The sushi alone pays for the price of the buffet. There is also fresh to order hibachi. The self serve portion is full of choices and so yummy! I love everything there! At dinner there are crab legs but lunch has tons of great options as well. I see people on here complaining about service...it's serve yourself so I really don't get that. Plus the waitresses and owners are always very friendly. Lots of dessert choices as well! If you like Chinese buffets, this is the best one in Valdosta! Sushi, Hibachi, and good choices. Go when it's lunch time or just a few minutes after. It will be busy and you will have to deal with the average run-of-the-mill Buffet connoisseur, but you will get hot and good food. The crab legs are not all there cracked up to be, but they do have them at night along with good shrimp and mussels. Little pricey for the nighttime Buffet but lunch time is definitely worth it. Personally I'd rate Royal Buffet a 4, but there's a few caveats for Royal Buffet in order to have a good or great experience. I've been a regular for at least 10 years, since I was a freshman in highschool, so here's the lay of the land: 1: Don't go in expecting high quality sushi. You have to order it from a guy behind a counter that doesn't know how to speak up, and it's generally Publix quality. Nice for a pick-me-up, not good enough to be a reason to visit. 2: Go during rush hours. It's generally dead from 2-5, and after 7. You will be met with cold or lukewarm food. 11AM-1PM for lunch and 5-7 for dinner are your golden hours. 3: Lunch is $7-8, dinner is $11-12 (can't remember the exact numbers, the raised the prices a couple bucks a few months ago thanks to increased ingredient costs). Lunch is the exact same as dinner except dinner has seafood like crab legs (that are OK at best), mussels, crayfish, and baked salmon. Lunch has some dishes replacing those that I honestly think are better anyways. 4: Don't get anything off the desert bar. Just don't. There's fried donuts across from the egg rolls and the salad bar has a varied fruit selection and pudding. That's your dessert. read more

Truthfully a 3 may be a bit of a reach. Probably about a 2 1/2... From the moment my fiance an I walked in you could tell the atmosphere was a but iffy. The sign obvioualy says please wait to be seated.. Well we stood there for about 5 mins evwn though the man at the desk was staring at us. After 5 mins he said "Go seat yourselves".. So we did. Not once were we greeted by any staff members. The food wasnt the best an you dont have much to choose from either. They claim to have a sushi bar yet thats completely false for the way they advertise it. You have to go to aguy behind a counter an ask for sushi.. He goves you a very small amount an youre only allowed a certain amount per person. The only positive thing id say is that the price for the buffet is pretty cheap.. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for chinese food. Today the food did NOT meet my standards! The server was good but I can't say the same for the food, the chicken was disgusting and the broccoli was soggy. There was a weird child running around in a paw patrol hat. The crackers and the cheese wontons were stale, the egg soup was disgustingly gelatinous. Their lo-mein was old and there was barely any left when I got to it. The dessert was acceptable, the custard was nice and cold. The coffee cake was also acceptable. The drinks were good, the server made sure to keep them full. Since moving here we have eaten here often. For buffet food it is pretty good and the sushi is made to order and delicious. They even have a made to order grill for noodles and meat. Just beware, the sushi chef no matter which one you get is ALWAYS rude and acts like the act if making your sushi is the worst fate that could befall him. Everyone else is friendly though. I came here with my sister today and I was VERY dissatisfied! The waiter was lovey and actually spoke English to my surprise... I usually enjoy this restaurant but today it was horrible. There were not many vegetarian options and the things that were vegetarian were nasty. The salad bar had old, brown and wilting lettuce. The lack of selection in the salad bar was just sad and disappointing. The seats were very uncomfortable and the booths had rips in the leather. The temperature of the restaurant was nice and wasn't too cold. Their broccoli was soggy and the chicken was chewy. The crackers for soup and cheese wontons were both stale. The dessert was nice and cold to my surprise. The price was fairly nice for a buffet. I hope next time I visit they will do better to meet expectations. read more

Today a friend and I were in the mood for sushi, so we decided to go to Royal Buffet. We got there and ordered our drinks and went and put in our order for sushi. We got back to the table and got our drinks and I immediately noticed a small bug in my drink. I fish it out with my straw and it is a baby roach. Great. So we get our sushi(we both ordered 2 rolls) and once we finish my friend goes up to place her second order. She comes back and says that the sushi chef was rude about her ordering more bc she's already had two. Well, in the past there has never been a limit. They only charged you for any unfinished sushi which is fine. Before I go to place my second order I walked around the restaurant to look at signage to make sure it isn't posted anywhere that there is a limit. Nowhere, NOWHERE, is it posted that there is a sushi limit. The only thing they have posted is that there is a limit on is the amount of eel rolls you can order, which is one per person. So I begin to place my second order and the chef says "No, you already have two." I explained that there is nothing posted that there is a limit and we were there specifically for the sushi. He waves his hands as he's walking away and says "No, no. You have two already." He ends up making me another roll, but wasn't nice about it. This review is getting lengthy, I know. To make an already long story a bit shorter, the man at the desk was rude and asked me why I was telling him about the sushi situation if he's making me another roll. And as far as the roach in my drink they said "Ok, we no charge you for drink." No apology, nothing. I will never step foot into this establishment again. Our waitress was nice, but everyone else was rude. I'd much rather go somewhere else and pay more to have better service and less bugs. read more

The food is good! THE PEOPLE WHO RUN IT ARE NOT. I paid for my $8 meal with a $20 bill and only got $2 in change. When I told the man I paid with a $20, he argued with me that I only gave him a $10. There is no way I gave him a $10 bill because I didn't have one. I only got one $20 out of the ATM prior to dining there. That was the only cash in my wallet. He never offered to count his drawer or even get my contact info in case he was $10 over when he counted at the end of the night. This place is lots of food for a low price. Sushi is included in the low price. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. It's hard for a business to offer mass quantities at a high quality for such a low price and make a profit, which is the point of a business. Royal Buffet for many years has been our favorite place to eat and almost always where we would recommend as well as bring all of our out of town guests. No more! They have been going downhill for some time now in every regard. They do not serve crab legs on the buffet any longer and yet the price has gone up. The food on the buffet is very oftentimes old and seems to be leftovers. Lukewarm food during a very busy period of time is terrible to get! Soups are gelatinous. We have taken to ordering to go orders to insure that our food is fresh but never again will I order to go in this place nor will we eat inside. We broke down and went after church today as we reasoned that it would be good and fresh due to the place being busy. It was busy yet the food still was not up to par as just about everything we ate was extremely salty or cooked too well done to enjoy. We watched THREE to go boxes be filled by a worker off of the buffet by a worker. It looked like soup was put in a cup and noodles (that we knew to be stale) were placed in a bag, some chowmein and pepper chicken were all put into a to go box that are the kind given when you call ahead for a to go order. Within minutes a to go bag packaged in a large bag was taken up to the register for the unsuspecting patron hurrying in to bring in a not quite so fresh or delicious bag of food home for the family.NEVER AGAIN will we return and NEVER again will we eat inside and NEVER gain will we recommend to anyone to go and NEVER again will we bring out of town guests. When we got to the register we witnessed the young male cashier make fun of a guest who was overweight and he and the other worker that was close by laughed while our group and others waiting to pay were stunned.
