Although I believe in the expertise of Michael Kokolis and periodontist Stephanie Sfiroudis, there are problems with the office. You have to pay in full ahead of time for expensive procedures not approved by the insurance. I am on some dental plan and can afford to pay, but was told by Dr. Mike, THREE HOURS after waiting that I can be on plan. I had to pay before and told the receptionist to keep my credit card and I will pay afterward in case I do not do the procedure or am not happy with it, and then waited three hours to be seen by Dr. Stephanie, and I sat in front of the door. It felt like a punishment. The manager came up to tell me to go down and pay around two hour after I was already there, I did and waited another hour at least. I had something to read, emails to check and shows to listen to, and when I was done I said I am getting my money back on my credit card if I am not seen within 10 minutes. Then I was seen. Other times, at least twice, Jenny their finance manager, has come to the side of my chair while I have things in my mouth, including blood, to collect payment, which I would do after the procedure, once I am happy with it. I expressed to her for this not to happen. It did again. When I told her after the second time, she wryly said: "Have a nice day." I had told Dr. Mike, the owner. Even if I were less educated and had less money, this would be inappropriate [for anyone] and I never saw this anywhere. It must be illegal for non-medical personnel working on you to come anywhere near you at a medical or dental office. Lastly, it seems Dr. Mike wanted to press an expensive procedure or two that is not needed unless someone wants a fully white, straight smile like a robot (inhuman) and asked on more than one occasion who tells me I have a great smile or look good. I would like to share my experience with this practice for transparency. I scheduled an appointment for a dental evaluation; however, the evaluation did not take place because I did not have X-rays from my previous dentist. I was seated in the dental chair for less than two minutes, during which the dentist briefly looked in my mouth and then asked for the X-rays. When I informed her that I did not have them, I was told that an evaluation could not be completed without them. I left the office and later obtained the X-rays from my previous dentist, which I emailed to them later that week. Anyways Approximately nine months later, Im being contacted by this practice and charged $200 for an evaluation that, in my understanding, never occurred. Since then, I have received repeated calls harassing me requesting payment. I contacted my insurance provider, who advised me not to pay out of pocket and instructed the office to submit the claim to insurance. I relayed this information to the practice; however, they continue to insist that insurance will not cover the charge and that I am personally responsible for payment. I believe this billing is inappropriate given that no evaluation or diagnosis was completed, and the ongoing calls have been distressing. I encourage others to carefully review their billing statements and clarify all charges before leaving an appointment, because this is clearly a SCAM STRATEGY they have going on. read more

This is my second post about why I strongly recommend that you DO NOT use Bell Dental Care Bayside (BDC): I just saw my new dentist today - one of the root canals done by BDC failed and I am in pain, have an infection and have to see an endodontist. Since leaving BDC about six months ago, I've had two root canals done, four cavities filled and replaced the caps on my front teeth that were put in by BDC and were the wrong color and size (I tried repeatedly to have these fixed at BDC with no success). These dental issues were shockingly overlooked by BDC. I started going to this dentistry because they took my insurance and were close to home. I usually came out of appointments disappointment. Why I kept going back is a mystery to me. If you choose to use BDC Bayside, DO NOT see Dr. Stephanie (Periodontist) - she pulled a tooth resulting in me going to the hospital the same night, getting two rounds of antibiotics and a drain put in. Her follow-up was heartless. And Dr. Mike (was my primary dentist) is abrupt, not explaining what he was going to do or how he was going to do it. At my very last visit, I had to physically push him off me because without saying a word to me, he came at me to remove a cap with a pick. Dr. Mike also has a fixation with thinking that everything can be fixed by taking more vitamin D. Bell Dental Care Bayside is too big, too busy, hit-and-run, drive by dentistry. DON'T GO! read more

I don't know if this is because I'm a Medicaid patient but I feel semi-ignored whenever I come here (I have been twice, with different staff both times). Don't get me wrong, they accept the insurance, but then it feels like a "say as little words to Patient as possible" challenge. After the cleaning I wait a while for the dentist to see me, they say around three extremely short sentences to me about my teeth, then I have to leave. Zero warmth, very business-like and cold. If I have any questions it's answered in about two words. I feel like a burden whenever I come here, and this was not the case at my pediatric dentist at Northwell. I've always had symptoms of gum disease but last time I went they insisted my gums were fine, but it really felt like they didn't give a damn whether my gums were messed up or not. This place is one of the most unorganized facility I've ever been to. I went to see them back in 11/2023. Just recently I received a bill from the stating it was over due 90 days. When I spoke the manager she stated the insurance denied my claim. They supposedly state they sent me a bill back in mid November but my insurance company had not even denied the claim as yet. This is my experience while I attended with my family member. First this place is extremely unorganized. Second, they over schedule people to the point that there is no room in the waiting area. This is the one thing that pissed me off my family member was called into the dentist room before getting her x rays done. The X ray technician called my family member's name. I told her the person is the room. When my relative came out I told them that x ray technician called . My relative went to the technician who was this older lady who looks like she is ready for retirement spoken to my relative very rudely and acted like she didn't know what she was talking about . Had to get my wisdom teeth checked by another doctor recommended BY THEM bc they don't seem to do it there??? and they're now trying to charge me money to send to the new doctor X-rays taken of my teeth. LIARS. I went to Bell Dental for a few check-ups. On the third visit they told me I had to pull 1 wisdom tooth. I'm pretty good about my teeth so I was surprised but I did it. The forth visit they told me I had the pull another wisdom tooth. I wasn't in any pain & getting the last 1 out was very uncomfortable so I didn't do it. On the fifth visit the dentist simply looked into my mouth and I got a letter in the mail saying I needed 6 teeth pulled!! My husband recommended this place and never in my life been to a dental office as horrible as bell dental care. To start, they never call you to remind you of your appts. 2nd, trying to reach someone there either by phone or email is a nightmare. 3rd, when there, everyone and their grandmothers know what's wrong with you as there is absolutely NO PRIVACY when they start talking to you... loud, in an open space, people around etc. There is a hygienist named Maria that is very rude, forceful and truly not a nice person.. Really awful. My son just got his braces off today, and they suprised me with an extra $500 charge for the retainers. No mention of this before, even though the retainer cost is usually included in the cost of braces. It felt like a dishonest money grab. I used to go there for cleanings, and the work was always rushed. Finally, they have a horrible check in policy where you have to stand in front of a computer for 5-10 minutes while someone upstairs checks you in. Please be sure to follow CDC guidelines in regards to COVID-19. This was one of the worst dental practices I've been to. We submitted the new patient form and COVID forms online so we wouldn't have any delays in checking in. When we got there, we spent almost 20 minutes going over address and insurance information. We were then told that the forms weren't in the system so we had to provide all of the information. This was so unprofessional and makes me question where our information went. The receptionist kept leaving while the other staff sat there doing nothing despite there being other patients waiting. I have been coming to this place for quite a few years and in the last year or so it has been going to sh*t excuse my French. I used to love coming here and seeing Dr.Lupo but as soon as she left, the whole place went down. They continually OVERBOOK, like how are there no seats for you to sit in the waiting area?!? Then on top of that they have a new system "that checks you in" that obviously doesnt work. One patient was told she was checked out instead of checked in waited an hour for absolutely nothing and then had to reschedule for something in 3 weeks! I have been a patient of Bell Dental Care for many years probably around 15 years. I always loved the way they treated my teeth so I stayed with them. Because it's very hard to find a good dentist. It's true they do very good dental care. But through the years their customer service has become a trainwreck. First they stopped answering the phones. Now they have some kind of call center thing that doesn't really handle much of anything and just makes appointments if you can even get through to them. The best way to reach Bell Dental is through email. But that can be a problem too. Because sometimes they don't respond for days via email. And now my latest experience with Bell Dental and I never experienced this with them before but this was like the last straw with me was I went to an appointment with them and they did their dental stuff and then they promised to file certain things with the insurance. I discussed it with several people there including the insurance lady. And then I went home thinking ok I will wait on the response from the insurance. And then weeks later I get this weird email from them responding to something I wrote to them in an email way before my appointment cause like I said sometimes they don't respond to emails and as the emails back and forth between us continued I realized they never submitted the stuff with the insurance company. I was so upset. Like that was the whole point of the appointment. That appointment there were old faces but also new people working there at Bell Dental. There was a really rude new receptionist who was yelling at a patient and then said to another employee loud enough so everyone in the waiting room could hear (lucky for them there were only 3 people in the waiting room it was lunch time) that "foriegners think the world revolves around them." So nasty to clients. Went here twice for dental work and each time there was an issue going on within the office. No communication between staff within the office, or communication with clients. Nobody knows what is going on. People everywhere you look are complaining about waiting for hours, having to have came back multiple days because office is mis scheduling appointments. Only nice person there was the Lady with red hair who takes X-Rays, and the main doctor Mike was ok I guess. The people at the front desk were nice as well, however that does not make up for running an incompetent practice. The MANAGER (no clue how), the African American lady, was the WORST! Showed absolutely no respect to clients, heavy attitude, spilling others business in the waiting room, bickering with such a nasty use of words and tone. ZERO PROFESSIONALISM from this lady. You are the manager, this is a professional setting that is sensitive for people as it is their HEALTH that is at stake. However, she shows no mercy. Instead of being nice, compassionate, considerate, etc, she says "nah I gotta go I'm done for the day I'm gonna get a ticket nah nah talk to the doctor I don't do that stuff" (verbatim no exaggeration) Treating people like they're nothing, when they are upset (rightfully so) at how horrible YOU run your practice. Such an awful scene. And the fact that she's the manager is just mind blowing. Good thing I got out of there before they did anything other than a cleaning, who knows what could've happened. Where do I begin? This place is a sh*t show! First of all, when you call you never get the office on the phone. You get a kid in Columbia or Greece. They have outsourced to a call center. You have to tell them you want to be called back in order to speak to someone from the office. Second, the woman who seems to be running things upstairs is a complete disaster. She is either way too caffeinated or just hostile but I once told her that I thought the dentist might have done something wrong as i was in pain after a procedure and I had to hear how he and his sons went to a top school and blah blah blah. And last time, when I specifically made an appt for "cleaning only" with "Maria" they attempted to have the dentist do an exam and when I told her I only wanted a cleaning she told me in a hostile manner "well you need to sign a form". And when the dentist came in to do the cleaning and I told her I specifically wanted Maria, she said "this isn't his first rodeo". So rude and unprofessional. And from what I have heard this woman has a history of similar behavior with many other patients. Third, I have been there many times because my insurance only allows me to go to certain dental offices) and every time I go I have to call several times to BEG for a few antibiotics so that I can pre medicate due to some medical conditions I have. And I have to go through unbelievable angst and often times have had to cancel my appt because they won't call in 4 amoxicillin for me. You would think I was asking for OxyContin the way they make me jump through hoops. It's ridiculous to treat patients this way but most of their patients are on Medicaid and have no choice but to go there. Even checking in downstairs is a ridiculous process whereby you have to sit at a computer and wait. And last time they made me wait 10 minutes because they messed up my appt time, even after confirming the day prior. Poorly run and no management. And this is woman is terrible. I've been going here for a few years now the first time I let the valet guy park my car and on the way out he said "no tip?" Which I replied "now that you're asking for it no.." so he told me next time I come to park somewhere else not to park in their lot. So that was the first red flag. Another time I went on time or even maybe early and had to go down to the meter 3 times because they made me wait 45 minutes. This time I made an apt online to get a fill and a cleaning which they told me they couldn't do both at the same time so I said fine I'll go in to get my cavity fixed. Not even a call back and u will never be able to call the office. A deep cleaning took only 10 minutes and the other half I had to follow up for scheduling many times. I have been going to this dentist's office for 17 years, ever since I was a child. I have always been disappointed with the customer service and bedside manners with certain nurse techs. The staff downstairs on the first floor is often rude and dismissive, and the wait times are always over an hour. My last visit was the final straw. I had an appointment for fillings because my previous night guard that was made with Dr. Michael Kokolis was made with acrylic which wore down my teeth drastically than sleeping without one in the very beginning. Every time my fillings pop out and part of my bottom left (K9) tooth's enamel was chipped away the technician said that everything looks ok and I do not need any further adjustments. Low and behold I got a second opinion and paid again for another night guard- this time it was a rubber one which prevented the waring of my teeth back in January of this year 2023. During my appointment I waited over 45 minutes to be seen and was completed over a duration of two hours in the dentist chair for two fillings.. When I finally got into the exam room, with Dr. Georgia I explained the situation and wanted to rectify what has happened over the years. I told her it wasn't her fault but I expressed how disappointed I was that this night guard really messed up my teeth. She automatically said that acrylic night guards are better and it's because I brush too hard. She stressed that she doesn't like the rubber ones because they're for sport players... (Even after I told her I use an Oral B soft tooth brush and the chip off my tooth happened overnight while grinding in my sleep. Also, how would she know if that is better.. it makes me wonder if her teeth would be ok if she wore an acrylic night guard. I was taken back with this repsponse and especially me mentioning their poor customer service downstairs in the main lobby and the follow quote came from Dr. Georgia... " We take a lot of patients with it without medical coverage. I know it's not the patient's fault but it's the name of the game". That is not my problem and what is the point of making an appointment in the first place. She didn't take the time to explain anything to me or at least have any compassion. Reminder, I'm a 27 year old woman and she still stressed that it's because your enamel is eating off. I felt like it was their way and their way only. What happened to the customer service and compassion with this place?!?. This keeps on happening not only to me but to everyone and it seems like they don't have any reason to change their mindset but just to make money off with or without insurance.. She also made me feel very uncomfortable by taking numbing needles to my gums and drilling the holes a little deeper which I have no reason why since in the past every other dentist including Dr. Michael Kokolis never done. I left feeling like I had been treated poorly even though my fillings were "taken care of". I will be changing dentists immediately. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Ugh! DO NOT GO TO BELL DENTAL CARE! I brought my four year old son into the pediatric dentist, Dr. Samuel, there for two years.... they kept telling me that he didn't have cavities and that the discoloration and the black spots he had in his teeth can be fixed with hard brushing. Well after a while... i noticed that the discoloration in his front two teeth was due to a HOLE behind his teeth! And i only noticed this because my son said there was something stuck behind it... it was literally a HOLE in the front back of his teeth! Well, I told my husband to bring him in- and lo and behold! He confirmed it was a cavity and said my son can only be treated with either general anesthesia or conscious sedation.. This is after i brought him in just a week or two prior... and the pediatric dentist gave him a clean bill of health! The next day- I brought him in to two other pediatric dentists and they confirmed that he not only had one cavity! But FIVE!!!! DO NOT GO TO BELL DENTAL CARE! especially to Dr. Samuel! TERRIBLE!!! I even called the manager to voice my concerns and Dr. Samuel gave me call several days laters.. to not apologize ... which I would have gladly accepted (because hey! Mistakes can happen when there's a screaming, squirming toddler) but to get defensive and said the cavities were formed within the past two weeks! Wtf!!!!!! And to say that he would've given his child the same treatment he would've given my son! Wtf!!!! Dr. Samuel also said that laughing gas would not work in my son... but hey! Guess what! It does! Instead of checking why the pain was radiating all over the right side of my face, they didn't. Went to another dentist to find out I have a sevier infection in that tooth.
