We had just gotten out of local hospital and stopped by for a takeout order. Had not been there before, very sweet ambience. The staff were so nice while I waited for the food to be prepared. We got home and everything was so good. We will definitely return when we can actually stay for an a meal. read more

After dropping off our taxes at nearby Integrity Tax Solutions we had lunch at The Bell House Restaurant. Fortunately we made reservations a couple of days ahead as the place was packed by the time we left. Service was very good and our lunch of a half sandwich of pimento cheese, tomato dill soup and fruit was tasty as always and filling. The coffee is always fresh and very good. Past two previous experiences have been great, but recent pretty low. We showed up as party of four and ordered wine and an appetizer. Restaurant wasn't busy. We typically don't pay attention to time but since we made a reservation at 7:10, we all ordered at 7:20 and got our food at 8:30. Lot of waiting and noticed waitress was pretty absent and finally asked front desk if our food was coming. Our receipt indicated that our waitress didn't put our order in till 8:10. Would had expected some apology but told it was because they were busy which they weren't. I love Shelbyville and the unique spots but this one let us down tonight. read more

The Bell House Restaurant has so much character; I love the old historic home and the furnishings. We did not make reservations, but were able to still get seated. I ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown, and it was delicious! Service was quick, and everything tasted homemade. They had a brunch menu and tons of sandwich / soup combinations. I went to the Bell House recently with a large group of friends and we had a really wonderful evening. The inside of the restaurant is charming. The wait staff was friendly & efficient. And the food was truly excellent. I ordered the Cherry Bourbon BBQ Brisket with a twice baked potato and the apple cake & caramel sauce for dessert ... mmmm. It was so good!! I ordered the lasagna to take home to my husband just so I could have a taste of it, too.Some of my friends had ordered it & said it was delicious ( & it was!) I can't wait to come back again and try some other items on the menu. I usually end up recommending the Bell House quite often now to both friends & strangers. Our golf trip group of 10 men (ages 35-78) stopped into Bell House at the last minute on the way back from Keeneland track without reservations on a Saturday about 6pm. Although the restaurant was full, they made accommodations for us on the front porch, which was probably best for all involved, and sat us right away. Mary Beth was our server and she handled our group tremendously. The hostess, manager and server were very friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful across the board. We will definitely come back and if you give it a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Coworker was going here for lunch and I asked them to bring me back a steak flat with fruit for the side. The easiest way to describe the steak flat is if you take pita bread and load it up with steak, onions and pimento cheese. It was really good and I would definitely recommend. I felt it was a bit pricey but given the amount of meat and the quality of it I think that it was relatively decent cost. Fruit cup was as good as can be expected in mid-february and given the alternatives are kettle or baked chips I think I made the right decision. I would definitely get the steak flat again, and maybe next time I will actually go to the restaurant to be able to comment on that experience. read more

Really quaint place. Felt like dinner at my grandparents. I had the Prime Rib with wedge salad and twice baked potatoes. AMAZING! My wife had the blackberry feta pork tenderloin with glazed carrots and asparagus. She said the blackberry fed up. Pork tenderloin was really good but just dry. Her sides weren't as good as mine. Some of the best food in the whole state of Kentucky. I've been going here since 2017. The staff is always extremely friendly, I'd recommend the entire serving staff on any given day. The ambiance is always very nice, well put together, and they make you feel right at home. The menu is brilliant, and the chef specials that rotate are one of my favorite things about Bell House. There's so much innovation with this place, and it really breaks the mold in the modern day restaurant scene. Lastly, you cannot skip dessert here! I feel like I wasted $60. I heard great things about the Bell House restaurant. However, our experience left a lot to be desired. First off, we and two other couples started off with fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The waitress took our order for dinner. We received our salads before we got our fried green tomatoes. Not your normal eating order. There was only four per order and hard as a brick with no taste. I ordered Henry Bain Pork and my wife order Crispy Rosemary Chicken which was a chicken breast and it was so crispy, (burnt), that we thought that the breast had a bone in it. My pork was over cooked and very dry. The same goes for one of the other couples that ordered Henry Bain Pork and Crispy Rosemary Chicken. The twice baked potato turned out to be less than a half of a potato. Very, very disappointed!!!! read more

We had a wonderful meal at Bell House Restaurant while visiting from Chicago. The Bell House compares very favorably to our favorite Chicago places. The historic building in which it is located is charming. The good was excellent. The bruschetta and spinach artichoke crostini were excellent. Our table had the Creamy Cajun Pasta and the Rosemary Chicken. Both highly recommended. The twice baked potatoes were good, although a bit dry. We thoroughly enjoyed the Coconut Cream Pie and Creme brulee w/caramel. Service was excellent. Recommend unqualifiedly. read more

Stopped in for brunch at The Bellhouse in Shelbyville. It was such a beautiful day we decided to sit outside. Beautiful day with amazing food. The Bellhouse is located on Main Street. They do have parking in the back if you are like me and can't parallel park. The establishment is beautiful. I believe the house was built in 1902. There's a brief history in the front of the menu. It was quite interesting; however, I was so excited to try the brunch special which was Banana Blueberry French Toast. The Brunch menu had something for everyone. I didn't take a pic so I'm going by memory here. They had steak & eggs, breakfast casserole, eggs Benedict, French toast and lobster bisque on their brunch menu. The coffee was exceptional. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy a great cup of coffee while we waited on our food. I must say that I made THE best choice in picking my entree. The Blueberry Banana French Toast was D-I-V-I-N-E. So so good. The French toast was tender and flavorful and served golden brown with a dusting of powdered sugar and dotted with plump blueberries. The banana sauce on the side made me think of my Mom's banana pudding and how she would put a little bit out in a bowl still warm. I loved it. The blueberry sauce was perfect with the smooth and creamy banana sauce. I barely had to use any maple syrup. We also ordered the steak and eggs because we always do a sweet and a savory and swap!!!! It's the best of both worlds. The steak was perfectly seasoned and the potatoes were crispy and delicious. The price is crazy for how good the food is. Seriously with coffee and all that food it was under $35. We will definitely be back. Y'all need to come to Shelbyville and give the Bellhouse Restaurant a visit. She's a beauty. read more

Was in the Bluegrass state and like any American I was looking for a classic Kentucky hot brown. You can't be in Kentucky and not stop for one. Seen the reviews and it was close so off to The Bell House we went. The restaurant is an elegantly restored home with a casual atmosphere. The service started out slow but got better as we went along. I started with the soup of the day "Lobster Bisque". It was splendid and full off flavor, but not overly fishy. Next on for what we came for the "Classic Kentucky Hot Brown". It came to the table bubbling hot so I couldn't dive in right away due to the extreme temperature of the food. The presentation of the dish was good and made it look delicious. Once it cooled down and I was able to taste it. I was happy we came. Not all hot browns are created equal and this one proved that point. I would recommend the hot brown and the Bell house to all that pass. It's a must stop and eat place. read more

We came in for dinner on a Wednesday night. I didn't make a reservation and was told that all of the tables inside were taken that night. I was so surprised it would be full on a Wednesday night! But the hostess was so kind and said she would figure something out. She found us a table on their side porch, and we were so appreciative! Our waitress was so nice and friendly! She was very attentive and quick. She even asked a couple people in our party how they liked their Shelby Mules and when they both told her that they thought it was so overpowered with ginger, she said she would take them off the bill. We totally didn't expect that! We had the spinach artichoke crostinis and the pimento risotto cakes as appetizers. Both were very good! I had their dish on special that night which was the shrimp and grits, and the grits were SO tasty! For dessert, I had the apple pie which was also amazing!
