I enjoyed my first visit to the Bella Mar this afternoon. Nellie had relaxing music on and she is warm & caring to her clients. Everything was neat & clean . I purchased a Groupon haircut & blow-dry and was very happy with the results, she was able to give me the style that I requested and she listens to her clients. A Groupon certificate gives the customer a chance to try a new service or salon in their area! I visited Ari in the salon sometime in December. The salon seems really nice. I was her first appointment of the day. I scheduled my appointment within a few days and was happy she was able to take me that same week seeing how many groupons she had sold. I bought the Groupon for the full highlights. I was quickly rushed into the changing room because she had other appointment set up after me which is actually something I like. I did have to be somewhere else after. She asked me what color I was looking for and I told her caramel as I wasn't trying to go very light. She put the product in my hair super fast and I was waited for it to cook. She took a haircut appointment while I was waiting. Ari mentioned that I will need to add a toner since my hair was colored before. The toner was $30 which to me is a little steep. I understand that stylist don't make much from their Groupon sales but to charge that much for a toner is crazy. I told her that I didn't want it and that may have upset her a little. I was happy overall with the results but I did have many different tones. It ranged from Blondes to Carmels which is a big range of colors. I washed my hair 3 days later with color based shampoo but my color became dull and was barley there so I was definitely upset. Would I go back?? Worst experience ever. Ari.. who I found on Groupon was confrontational and nasty. I purchased a full highlight. And there is a huge chunk in the back that's still very dark She put me under the dryer for 10 mins I told her I think I need more time. I had never had my highlights lifted that fast. She snapped " I have another client coming in". Mind you it was 20 to 12 and my appt was at 10. It had not been 2 hours. With long hair and with a full highlight 2 - 3 hours should be blocked out. She used 20 percent peroxide. I asked. That level will not highlight your hair enough , if you want it light, unless you give it extra time. I have a little damage on the very top layer. I understand this. But it was the under layer that needed to be highlighted most. Then when it was done I showed her what the cost of the Groupon was. She shrugged her shoulders and opened her eyes wide as if she didn't believe it. The cost on Groupon was 80.80 after the discount was applied. Its 81.00 today. So to give me attitude was absurd. In anyway for any reason. Not one person can tell my hair is highlighted. What a waste. She also charged me 88.00 ! I didn't look when I left. She added 8.00 on so please look at what she charges before you sign the computer she uses. Again most horrible experience of my life. From the highlight to her nasty attitude. I'm also going to report her to Groupon. She asks you to not purchase it until you come in so she can save money. She books people back to back used the lowest bleach and peroxide and doesn't even give you a full highlight. Don't waste your money or your time. read more

I was visiting this beautiful town on my way to get coffee with my daughter we spotted the nail salon thinking it sit on the Marina should be a great place to get our nails and feet done. Well it wasn't The nail lady was in a hurry, her nail polish display was unorganized her helper was nice Our nails look worse than we walked in. Pedicure was a quick done half fast job. Ari is amazing!!!! I love the way my highlights turned out! It was my first time with her after buying a Groupon so I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I got a full head of highlights AND a blowout at the best price in LA probably ever- $65! I have been getting so many compliments on the work she did. And the best part is- I have long hair and we did a full head- in under 1.5 hours. She's really fast which I appreciate- and we started right on time if not early for my appointment. Thank you Ari can't wait to come back :). **Side note- the salon is a little tricky to find its in a large complex. Ask the security guard with help finding Bella Salon when you pull in. He will give you a map and show you where to park and how to find the right building to go to. read more

Seriously disrespectful and rude. I purchased a Groupon for Bella Mar full highlights and blowdry for $88. First, nowhere on the Groupon did it state that the Groupon services are only handled by one stylist: Ari. Anyway, apparently they don't book the appointments at the salon, instead each stylist books their own appointments (I've never heard of this before). So, I called Ari's phone number the salon provided and left a message. She did not get back to me. I called the salon a day later and asked that they have Ari call me back...the person at the front desk was very brusque with me and kept interrupting me while I was talking, saying "she's with a client and can't come to the phone now" finally I had to raise my voice and say "I know, you've said. I just want her to please call me back" (what I was requesting in the first place). Anyway, I did not receive a call back. I called for a third time (fourth if you count the call to her cell) and finally got on the phone with Ari. She said that she was calling but my number didn't work...turns out the receptionist gave her the wrong number. Anyway I was trying to schedule an appointment with her during the week and told her that it will have to be afternoon since I get out of work at 3 (which isn't even super late), but she said she cannot accommodate afternoon appointments (again, I have never encountered this). So, I said a weekend appointment was fine. She asked me what my haircolor is/what I would like done and when I told her I have previously had balyage and am doing full highlights, she said she will not do balyage with the Groupon and that toner is $20 extra! Seriously I have never heard of this either. Toner is a very standard service when getting highlights. She said that she charges extra because the Groupon is such a good deal...I pointed out that it's not THAT good of a deal...it's only $42 less than the normal value to begin with and if you include a standard tip it brings it down to only $27 less than the value. So if I paid for the Groupon, the toner and a tip, I'd only be saving $12. Not worth the hassle, honestly. She was very condescending during our conversation overall and told me at the end she doesn't want to do my highlights (not that I wanted them done by her by that time anyway!). Seriously she was so rude to me. After the experience I had I would never even consider going here. read more

I moved to Marina del Rey 6 months ago and was concerned about finding someone who knows what she's doing with my hair. I found her--Ari at the Bella Mar Salon. Ari is amazing. My hair is difficult; it's medium long, very thick and curly, and has a tendancy to turn orange (as opposed to honey brown) when it's colored. She's a talented, no-nonsense stylist; she blow dries my hair sleek, with lots of body and just the perfect amount of curl, which is extremely difficult to do. Ari is fast and efficient, but also a perfectionist. The first time she did my color, she got it perfect. My hair lasts an entire week after she does it and I get compliments every day. With Ari, the customer always comes first. She accommodates me as if I am the only person she sees. I couldn't be happier. read more

I bought a Living Social package of partial highlights and blow dry. I called the salon and didn't get a call back for 3 days and then when I did I had to wait over a week to get one. My appointment was at 10 and 3 people asked me who I was waiting for I told them Ari then 20 minutes later she acknowledged me. I sat down and tried to describe what I wanted and while I waited noticed a dirty coloring bowl with hair in it! I felt like the salon wasn't very clean and a bit runned down. She did the highlights quickly which I liked but I don't feel like she did a consultation on what I wanted or showed me any photos or swatches or asked how I wanted my hair styled for blow dry. I have never been to a salon that didn't consult a new client. My hair turned out ok, a lighter then I expected but overall ok. After the service she told me I owed her $20.00 for toner. This upset me she should have told at the beginning. I will not return or recommend salon for this reason read more

Just left after seeing Ari for full highlights. Love them! She did an amazing job going as light as I wanted without making it too stripey. It looks beautiful, and natural, and sunkissed. My old Salon closed and I researched new places, I chose Ari based on reviews and a great groupon deal and I'm not disappointed. She even got my bangs without making them look bad, which is really hard to get right with light blond highlights. And she's really friendly and personable to boot. I wish it was possible to give zero stars. Today I came into the salon and had an appointment with Ari after a close family member had been a client for over a year. I recently moved to the Marina and I wanted to find a salon close to me, rather than driving 45 minutes to see the hairdresser I've been to for the last decade. I came in with a fairly simple request-my hair has been highlighted blonde for the last year and a half and I wanted to darken up the roots and create an ombré look. The appointment started out poorly, as I was scheduled for a 3 pm appointment and she didn't finish with her prior client until 3:30. I decided to stay, thinking that she was running a bit behind but everyone has those days. She never apologized for the inconvenience or even acknowledged it. When I explained what I wanted and showed a picture on Pinterest she seemed confused, as if a simple dye request was a magnificent feat. I asked if she couldn't do it and she said that she could so we proceeded. What I thought was brown dye she was applying using foils (which is completely unnecessary) turned out to be something that instead lifted my roots natural brown color and left me with bright orange patches at my crown. The dye she used also started to hurt my scalp and rather than checking to see if she had made a mistake she put a packet of sweet and low in the dye. I've been coloring and highlighting for years and never once had a similar painful experience, or someone so unprofessional as to use sweet and low in my dye. I wish I had just up and left then and not allowed her to ruin my hair. When she saw the damage she was not apologetic, merely repeating 'that's so weird'. I left before she could try to fix her mistake, worried she would ruin my hair further if I let her anywhere near it again. Luckily I was able get an emergency appointment with my hairdresser at home. My hair looks better, but even after applying dye my roots still have a red tinge and basically an ombre look is no longer possible. My hairdresser was shocked by what Ari did to my hair, her methods and apparent lack of a basic understanding of hair care. I would not recommended anyone subject themselves to such terrible hair care or customer service. See Ari at your own risk, the state should investigate and pull her license. read more

Yahoo - what a secret little find! I bought Groupons for hair and waxing since i am new to the area and needed to find a new salon. They are physically kind of a challenge to find, inside a high end condo property. Once you get inside the salon is certainly nothing fancy, pretty minimal but don't let that fool you. I went to Tania for a Brazilian and she was fantastic. She was quick (a key component for me) and did a great job on the wax. She also gave me great restaurant recommendations for the area :). I went to Ari for my full foil and cut. It is always a risk going to someone new but i have no choice but to find a new stylist so I took the risk. Well worth it! She was suuuuper fast (again, a key component for me) and did an excellent job. For those in the blond world: no yellow, close foils, and all over coverage. I recommend both of these lovely ladies to anyone looking for a new salon in the area. Note: if you are looking for fancy/relaxing pedicures - this is not the place as they don't have the nice nail salon chairs, just office chairs. I didn't get one so it didn't affect me, but a helpful FYI in case you're thinking of going there. read more

She was efficient and thorough and my hair looked great. The salon is no-frills, but clean and totally acceptable. Ari is a disaster. Unprofessional, rude and very cold. I walked into the appointment 11 minutes late, yes I was late and that is my fault, BUT I texted Ari letting her know I was running about 15 min behind schedule bc I couldn't find the salon. The address is Admiralty Way, but they don't tell you its on the second floor of a hotel you can't see from the street. After I finally arrived I walked into the salon with a smile on my face and immediately was in front of the desk with a woman slouched over her paperwork, and without even looking up at me she says..you're Erica right. I apologized for being late and joked about how hard it was to locate. She then told me she could only do part of my highlights and I would be leaving with wet hair bc she didn't have time. She said all of this without looking up. I turned around and walked out. I don't care if I lost the money I spent ($95) on the Groupon. At least Ari didn't get a tip from me. Take my advice DONT BUY THIS GROUPON, DONT EVER SEE ARI. And the reason there are few pictures of her work even though she has worked there for 5 years is because it's below average. I was going to Ari through a Groupon. When I called to make the appointment, she told me not to buy the groupon - just to pay her directly and give her the same price as Groupon - which was $55 for partial highlights plus a 20% discount which was on Groupon that day. We agreed on the phone to $44. I went over the next morning at the correct time and put on a smock. Just as she was about to put the product on - she did a BAIT AND SWITCH. She said - oh, if you want toner to make it look right, it will cost extra. I was pretty shocked. But figured, if it was an extra ten or so, I would agree to it. She told me it would cost an ADDITIONAL $45. I couldn't believe it. I told her we had agreed on a price, and if it was going to be extra - she should have told me on the phone -- not at the last minute -- and how this had never happened before. I have had highlights and color done hundreds of times - and have never been told at the last minute they are charging me extra to "make it look right." This is totally bogus. She puts ads on Groupon to get business - and then when you go in - she raises her price outrageously. If we wanted to pay that - we wouldn't have gone to Groupon in the first place. I walked out of the shop. Thank goodness she hadn't started putting any product on me. Stay away from this BAIT AND SWITCH stylist! read more
