I usually order a scoop or two of pina colada italian ice which is transcendent, but today I ordered a pint ($14.50). I had to stop myself from devouring the entire pint in one sitting. Also, they ran out of coconut so we ordered a pint of pistachio gelato, a notch below my favorite, but still heavenly ($15). Pleasantly suprised with the variety available! I got a double scoop of cannoli & moose tracks and it was exactly what I hoped it would be. The most important facyor is that the ice cream is sweet (duh) withoit it being overly sweet & syrupy. My friend got lemon x yuzu and the yuzu was amazing! This was good when it was Pesso's. It's gone way downhill. Now the ices are water down and lack flavor. The Vanilla Chip had no chips. The Toasted Almond Gelato was noticeabley less creamier and no nuts. The staff is also impolite, uninterested, and not very helpful. The red flag was being a Saturday evening, and there was no one inside. Seems word has gotten around to the obvious lower quality product. Usually, a summer Satuday evening it would be packed. When I walked in the staff were on their phones and sitting on top of the counters hanging out. No one approached to offer services. I had to speak up for someone to come over, and then the girl was rude. Too bad. It used to be a top notch spot better than Lemon King. read more

Came here with the family to cap off the evening after dinner. We were really full but had to stop by Bella's for desert. There were so many new flavors it took us a minute to decide. The staff was happy to give us a taste and we ended up with 4 orders of 3 scoop 3 flavors each. After we finished we went back in a got 2 more pints to go. Went a little overboard, but couldnt help it. The prices were pretty much similar to our local gelato spot in Jersey, so didn't feel much price resistence. The seating was perfect outside. We stopped here on a hot afternoon for some ice cream and Italian ice and had a decent selection of flavors. We ended up getting a scoop of rocky road, one scoop of chocolate brownie ice cream along with a scoop of mango ice and a scoop of peach ice which all tasted good, but at $4 a scoop they should. The prices seem high, but what prices aren't these days thanks to sleepy joe. I'm torn between a 3 & 4 star. read more

I've been eating Italian ices all my life (65+ years), always from a pleated paper squeeze cup. I've been visiting Pesso's since they opened about 20 years ago and thought it was strange that you had to ask for a squeeze cup. I visited Bellas last week with my adult daughters and the server at the counter said that she could not serve my ices in a squeeze cup, even though I could see the cups in a dispenser on the wall. I asked to speak with a manager and was told the manager was too busy. I politely persisted and the manager said they could give me a squeeze cup but I'd have to take the ices in their"default" cup and make the switch myself. I got a big eye roll from all three young ladies (including the manager) behind the counter. You lost a ~20 year customer: family of six with grandkids on the way. read more

I've been frequenting this spot for close to a decade now, back when it used to be called Pessos. Back then it was my favorite ice cream spot in all of NYC. We recently went back last week for the first time since the pandemic and saw that it's name was changed to Bellas, but are happy to report that the ice cream has definitely not changed in quality! I got my usual two scoop cup of Fudge Brownie (formerly Heavenly Chocolate) and Coffee, and both were delicious. The Pessos Heavenly Chocolate was my favorite chocolate ice cream growing up, not too sweet but rich and very chocolatey, and the Fudge Brownie was the same. The Coffee flavor is strong on the coffee but balanced out very well with sweetness so it's not overwhelming. Paired with the Fudge Brownie it's absolutely perfect. This is definitely a summertime neighborhood favorite. When we dropped by (and we dropped by twice in one week!) there was either already a line or families en route pulling up in cars or on foot. They operate with an ordering window as patrons are not yet allowed inside, but that just adds to the old school feel. The line can get long but it moves pretty quickly. You can try to order ahead online, but you may want to call and ask about their special flavors as those weren't updated online when I checked during our visit. All the ice cream seems to be served in closed-lid cups in white paper bags with wooden spoons inside, and I believe there was a sign stating this was intentional. Not sure if there is a cone option since I don't usually get cones. However they do still have the tables and chairs to the side of the storefront where you can sit and enjoy your purchase. All in all, brought back memories of some of my favorite childhood moments. We will definitely be back for more! read more

i've been coming to bella's for over a year now since i moved into the neighborhood. the girls there are always nice and attentive. it's important to remember that these employees are normal people too. i've witnessed a couple instances of other customers being snarky while they're just trying to do their job, including some of the reviews posted on here (like the review stating they were refused getting served in a squeeze cup -- i was there myself picking up an online order and he fails to mention raising his voice and holding up the line of 5+ people with the workers clearly getting overwhelmed). i have yet to have a negative experience coming to bella's and everyone should know to treat others the way they want to be treated. anyway, my favorites are salted caramel and pistachio gelatoooo sooooo yummmmm!!! the salted caramel and cookie crunchies topping combo is to die for. my bf likes the honey yuzu and sour apple ice flavors. they're all so good. read more

Pesso's is a cute neighborhood spot. It has a great feel to it. The staff is professional and friendly. The ices are really brightly colored and kids love that, but that usually means a weird aftertaste for me. I had my two nieces with me and they got blue raspberry iced for one scoop and one got mango for the other. My other niece chose the bright red for her other scoop. Out of the 3 ices I thought the Mango was the best. I had the coconut ice cream. It was good, but after a while I didn't really want to eat any more of it. That never really happens when I'm eating ice cream. I think it's too sweet. There's definitely better gelato not too far from this place that I would go out of my way for.
