I was so wowed by the reviews for this salon that I moved my flight home by a day and paid an extra night at a hotel to get the appointment they had available. I have really curly hair and finding a place that can do curly hair well is no small feat. One star because: --I arrived at 1:15 for a 1:30 appt. checked in. --Waited --Waited more --At 2pm, I went up to the front desk person to ask what was going on and she said my stylist WASNT EVEN THERE YET. She offered 15% off my next booking, which does me no good because I was there visiting and won't be in Austin for at least a year. What perplexes me the most is why the front desk person didn't come over to me sooner to say that the stylist wasn't there and was on her way? Why left me wait for FORTY-FIVE minutes? I was talking to a friend on the phone, so maybe she thought I hadn't noticed? Still, really awful service for a salon with such good reviews and high price tag (my service starts at $175). read more

I usually get my hair cut at the beginning of every summer but due to lockdown, I needed to wait until it was okay again. I felt very safe at this salon. Everyone had masks, everything was sanitized and set up to be socially distant. Alexandria cut my hair and I love my new hair! It feels so light and healthy! I'm just in town for a month and Alexandria also gave me great tips for places to visit while in town. First thing's first. Ginnie is the best hair stylist I have ever had. My long mop got a much needed cut and she blew me away with how well she listened to what I wanted and asked questions to make sure to get it right. From the front of house staff to the final snip my experience was absolutely lovely and I made sure to book my mid point trim and full hair cut before I left the salon. Even with all of the PPE and safety measures I felt pampered and understood the whole way through. For over 20 years, I've been going to Stephani, and every time I leave her chair, I feel and look more beautiful than when I entered. She is a color specialist who genuinely listens to your desires and offers excellent advice if you're unsure about what you want to do. In addition to that, she is both hilarious and caring. Quality nail experts are hard to find...I finally crossed paths with Jodi whose expertise surpassed the norm. I requested a Gel X nail set and a shellac pedicure, she was meticulously thorough with both and very pleasant to chat with. My nails looked fantastic so much that I went for a second appointment hoping this wasn't a "one off" and to my surprise she is consistent with all. This was my first time having my long hair cut in Austin and I studied salons for three weeks trying to find someone I had confidence in. Not everyone can cut long men's hair and have it look nonchalant masculine, not like a women's cut. This was the most I had ever paid for a cut, over $100 plus tip. Everyone I spoke with at Bella is very nice and my stylist was no exception. But he didn't get what I wanted despite his assurances, and didn't have enough experience (6 years but...). In the end my experience at Bella reaffirmed why I'm terrified to have my hair cut. I entered with hair past my shoulders. I said I wanted it cut chin length, mouth length after corrections. But after the second salon's salvage operation I ended up with it just beneath my ears. Setting aside the signs, I knew I was in trouble when my stylist at Bella suggested he was done and ready for product when it was one straight length all around and curled inward at the bottom like a woman's haircut. I suggested texturizing scissors and he said that he had been told that to use them would be cheating. Ok but I still need the texture, and layers, and need the length staggered. I asked him for that and to vary the length in layers as well as taper the length short to long from the front to the back, which was not only an apparent need from just looking at it but was also a feature I pointed out explicitly in the photos of my other cut I had shown him. I tried to guide (I'm no expert and shouldn't need to be) in correcting it but I should have just left right then knowing he didn't get it, because further attempts left the people correcting it at another salon less to work with. At a certain point it was a bit more texturized and layered but still I could see he wasn't getting it, and I was running out of hair. He seemed distracted like he wanted to wrap up or had to smoke or be somewhere else, like he needed to go, even just 40 minutes into the appointment. Perhaps he had something else important going on, it can happen. Not super explicitly rushed but he was definitely making me anxious because I didn't feel like me having a killer cut was something he really cared about. His perfunctory tactile handling of my hair also revealed a lack of experience. A few times he also snagged on my very fine hair painfully, and seemed to otherwise not have a sense of what it needed, where it should go, or how to style it. For example, I don't know why but every person who ever cut my hair well had to fix my head position and hold it at a certain point to see something in my hair they were looking for, but he didn't do that. In fact it seemed like he wasn't really looking at it closely at all, or that he'd know what to look for if he did. It also felt heavy and I told him I usually leave with it feeling quite cool on the back of my neck. So he asked if I wanted it buzzed underneath in the back and I asked if that's what he think they normally did to create the air pocket between my hair and neck. He said yes but the result left a VV on the back of my head of contrasting skin and hair. He was going to let me leave like that but I asked to see the back and then I said that VV needed to be corrected and his response was "oh you want me to cut off the horns, ok no problem." I thought "my god he sees and calls them hair 'horns' and I have to ask for that to be corrected?!?!?" He just wasn't invested in me and my cut. I went in having convinced myself to trust, but the whole experience made me feel uneasy. He offered touch up over the next few days but why would I since I don't have a shred of confidence in him at this point? I paid and left hoping that a few days and my own styling might correct it. But in reviewing out of the salon where I didn't feel the pressure in his rush to say it was fine I realized it was a disaster. I went to another salon to ensure I wasn't nuts. I asked for a review of pictures and my cut, asking a stylist what they saw as wrong with what I had and what they would change. They immediately said "oh my" and described exactly what I thought: it was "more or less one straight blunt length all around and shouldn't have been shaved in the back." The receptionist said he "felt terrible for me." I asked the stylist what would do to correct it and she said it needs more layers to break up the helmet of hair, and blending in the back because he "should never have buzzed it" so it can correct as it grows. They were able to repair it enough to look decent so that it will grow out and look good. But mistakes at Bella cost me about 4-5 inches of hair. I of course had to pay at the second salon too. I wanted to leave Bella still as a man with long hair. I ended up leaving another salon as a man with short hair. If your stylist isn't inspired go elsewhere read more

I never write reviews but I feel like I needed to this time. I want to let people know that if your booking ahead of time and end up canceling an appointment they will charge you no matter what. So be ready to pay at least half. On top of that, they don't make it easy to reschedule or cancel ahead of time on their website nor does their phone number work on their website. I was trying out a new stylist. Booked with Kelly My very 1st appointment she was 45 minutes to an hour behind I thought okay things happen, I will give her another chance. My 2nd appoint they call and say she is running 30 minutes behind. I Told the receptionist just to cancel , I cannot go somewhere that is going to be late every time. I pay a lot of money to get my hair done, at least she can be on time. Kelly then called me back and tried to make it right by telling me how it was not her fault instead of taking ownership. Getting my nails done is routine. I love having pretty nails. Therefore I have high expectations for my nail technician. I am happy to say that at Bella Salon I received excellent treatment from the reception, which was an adorable super chic young lady, to the nail tech who helped me, Mei. She was one of the most pleasant and sweet people I have ever met. It is refreshing to meet such genuine people in the service industry and you can really tell that the staff at Bella salon is happy to be there.
