A few of my friends (and some reviewers it seems) have had some gripes with the staff being kind of condescending, but I've honestly never experienced that (maybe it's because I actively avoid talking to people lol). They let me mind my own business as I graze through the aisles filled with their huge selection. I may not be the best judge of prices because I am a fairly casual consumer, and I think all PA beer is expensive compared to NJ (where I hail from). I saw a review that wished they had more variety packs. There's such an easy solution to that you know: bring a friend (or two or three) and then split the packs you buy so everyone gets to try. That's what I do! They have hand sanitizer and signs as soon as you walk in the door and marks on the floor to help you stay 6 ft apart. Plus, this place is huge so it feels very safe (I also let people finish looking in an aisle I want to go down so we can maintain our distance). Sometimes I have to wait a little bit for someone to come to the register (remember - I don't go out of my way to interact with staff), but I amuse myself looking for their cat lurking behind the counter. read more

Just left the store. I had to unload a case of beer onto my E-bike. I cut my wrist while doing so. I am on a serious blood thinner. Blood is running down my arm. I flattened the empty box. Employee refused to throw it into trash. He told me to throw it in the street. I threw it on to the PUBLIC sidewalk. The employee followed me out to the PUBLIC sidewalk and got in my face and started yelling at me to pick it up. Blood is running down my arm. I had to get home ASAP for first aid. I used to live around Bella Vista when it compromised the smaller area that is now Hawthorne's Biercafe; and seeing how many hard to find cases of beer they were able to bring into such a smaller spot was such an impeccable feat. And ever since they moved into the much bigger warehouse grounds they have been able to duplicate that number to the maximum. That said although you might find a case of Rodenbach for $95 as Sam so well mentions, I still take solace in the impressive deals i'll find on the selections that I'm used to. And the fact that both can be so abundant in one location is quite uncanny. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this place before- we love this business and were thrilled when laws in PA changed allowing them to sell beer in quantities more appropriate for home consumption rather than just large groups/distribution. The staff here are knowledgeable about anything and everything beer and cider related. The growler list is constantly changing and there truly is something for everyone- or if you're looking to bring a "wow" to a dinner party, worth checking it out. The physical store is roomy- I can confidently tell you that strollers comfortably fit down all of their aisles and around the store as this is a frequent stop for us- and it's easy to browse your aisle of interest. My husband is a beer guy and manages to find something interesting and a bit off beat here without fail. OVER PRICED AND OVER RATED. The worst part about this place ? The stingy, Arrogant, and pompous manager. Had a keg and was told I didn't need a receipt in order to return the can in order to get my $100 back. Went to go return the keg and the manager would NOT give me my money back. It's so upsetting to me that in times like this (covid, unemployment, etc.) business owners are acting like this. Thought I would help a small business during these times, but boy I thought wrong. To be fair, I haven't been to every beer distributor in the city, so I can't say this place is the bee's knees. What I can say though, is that Bella Vista not only carries beer from my new favorite brewery (Russian River), but it also conveniently categorizes beer by region of origin. So, much like you'd see baby diapers and light bulbs in the same grocery store aisle, you'll find Mid-Western and Great Lakes craft brews in the same section. That kind of organization isn't something one can take lightly, especially when shopping for something as serious as beer. 5 stars Bella Vista. WHOA. THERE. While in college I was spoiled by having Half Time nearby, this amazing incredible beer distributor that had EVERYTHING, in particular an extensive selection of microbrews and imports. Coming to Philly, I needed to find someplace that could satisfy my cravings for US microbrews and so was introduced to Bella Vista. The exterior of the building suits Bella Vista completely; its a warehouse full of beer, with a nice selection of microbrews, that you can purchase BY THE CASE. If I wanted to stock up on Southampton Publick House Double White, then by golly I can do so here! Or maybe a few cases of the cheaper stuff to celebrate the bf's birthday with a large group of friends. Bella Vista can accommodate. Even better, for a flat rate they'll even deliver it for you! A good thing if you're 1) a pathetic girl like me who couldn't possibly carry more than a few bottles on her own and who 2) has no car *sob* anymore since she lives in the city and 3) likes to entertain and must therefore provide beverages for large parties. But perhaps what I'm mostly grateful for is that the staff is friendly and KNOWLEDGEABLE. They know beer - they love beer! How can you not when you're surrounded by such a variety and enough to knock out all members of Philadelphia sports teams? FOUR TIMES OVER. This place is a giant ripoff - there, I've said it. They have a large selection of beer and that's really awesome, but it's priced outrageously high. We're talking $10-15 over the normal case price. I really don't understand the beer laws in Philadelphia. They make absolutely no sense. But regardless of the law, I am very happy to have Bella Vista Beer in my life. BVB has a wide selection of beers, from national brands to random micro brews. They don't carry all of the beers I would like to see, but there selection is more than enough to keep me happy. Unfortunately you have to purchase the beer in 24 packs. But when you compare the 24 pack prices to the 6 packs you would buy at a corner store, you are saving a bundle. The prices range from about 17 (for PBR and Lionhead) to about $40 (for the fancy schmancy). That being said, I do know they could still skim off an extra $5-$10 on some brands, but I'll take what I can get. The staff is friendly, there is usually a parking spot out front, and the location is good (at least for me). Now stop reading and go buy some beer! read more

Once again I accidentally purchased an expired case of beer this time it was almost a year old. It was not a rare bottler or beer as well. I am not sure if they just give the fresh cases to restaurants and leave us the backwash but clearly they do not care about their customers or soon to be former customers. I talked to the manager and owner about my situation and he told me that it is ok for them to sell year old beer. Around 3 years ago an employee offered my girlfriend and I a ride home from Bella Vista to prevent us from having to walk 6 blocks carrying 2 cases of beer. I was floored by the offer. Since then I have been a loyal customer - often going miles out of my way and at times paying more than I knew I had to to support such a customer driven business. Today I swung by to return a keg I picked up a week ago. For the first time I was told I needed a receipt to get cash - which is understandable. As I was carrying the keg back out though, I heard what I assume to be a manager explaining to the guy behind the register that they could have looked up my receipt but he didn't feel like taking the time to. I was ok getting turned away when I thought it was policy... but if the reason is that your time is worth more than mine it's unacceptable. My first thought was to try again in the afternoon and see if someone recognizes me and takes care of it (I've purchased around 40 cases so far this year alone) - but the more I think about it the more pissed I get. Adding insult to injury - I bought a 2nd keg for the event... and the other distributor didn't even charge me a deposit because he recognized me from 6 months ago! If my reason for going here was customer service I think I might be blinded by a kind act made by a guy I haven't even seen in like 2 years. I know it's just one instance after 3 years of loving you guys - but I think it's enough that I'll go home, get the receipt, return the keg, and start going to Springfield or one of the distributors closer to home. I miss the days of living right down the block from this place, because Bella Vista, without a doubt, is the best beer distributor in Philly that I have encountered. There is beer here that you never see anywhere else, and if you're clueless as to what to choose from, the staff is happy to direct you to the right choice after describing your preferred tastes. I am particularly happy to find a consistently stocked selection of Sprecher, a Wisconsin brewer that makes a mean Heffe Weisse, and comes in 16oz bottles. Love it. They also always have great sales and promotions - I remember when the Aussie James Boag Lager was just coming into widespread distribution in the US and Bella Vista was selling cases of it for under $25. Cool place inside but the one woman who works there is extremely rude. Walked in with my boyfriend and when he went to pay for the one case of beer she asked for both of our IDs. I said mine was in the car and before I could offer to go get it, she rudely waived me off and told me to "get out and I couldn't be in there without an ID". During my second visit, the shelves were FULLY STOCKED. I was in beer wonderland. If I had more money, I probably would've needed a U-Haul truck to bring it all home. I was hoping to find the Vault Aussie or Mosaic DIPA's (they have the Modern Muse IPA, Full City Stout, and Canal Street Kolsch), but they didn't have the DIPA's (my favorite kind). I don't mind, though, because they're a super small brewery that isn't popular like Yards or Victory. I can't find them anywhere, so actually this is a plus by having the ones they do. I was too mesmerized by how large the selection was. They had virtually every brewery imaginable (or at least the ones that are available at bars in this area). They carry 4 packs of Founders (barrel-aged) 12.4% abv Doom for $16.95. This is a really good deal because I've only seen these as singles for $6.50 each (which would result in almost $10 more than here). They recently (?) put all the prices on the actual shelf kind of like a supermarket (I didn't see this during my first visit, only stickers of prices on the boxes/sixers). Now the prices are very clear in front of you. I like this because I was at another beer distributor in center/old/south Philly, and they didn't have any prices... The guys who work here are nice. They didn't give me a hard time for walking around the entire store two or three times (sometimes it's hard to make a decision because there are so many)... read more

My neighbourhood beer distributor is also one of my favorites. First things first, the system of purchasing beer in PA is messed up. You can buy up to 2 six-packs at some bars and a few convenience stores, but for the most part you have to buy by the case. I've found this actually has some advantages, having had adventures in NYC trying to find anywhere to buy a case, or anything beyond the same 12 options found in every bodega. Selection at Bella vista is great, and their prices are decent. Before they moved across the street, their old location was still good, but had that same warehouse feel most distributors do. The new location is much more upscale, with aisles and shelves as opposed to clusters of palettes. They have some refrigerated cases in the back. Selection is really good, and I recently found that they've been putting together their own variety packs of some of the local breweries. I picked up a variety pack of Sly Fox tonight, because while I love the Royal Weisse, most of my friends would prefer the Pils or the Pale Ale. read more

Best beer distributor in the city, hands down. Everything is well laid out in terms of state or country of origin, so you can easily pin down what you want. Prices are the norm for Philadelphia and there are some excellent cases in the lows 30s to 40s. Lots of parking outside as well so no circling the block. And they are so friendly. Dropped in to quickly pick up a case and spent an hour discussing American craft brewing as if we'd been friends for life. Advice was bang on point and we were directed to some excellent new beers that we hadn't tried before. They also do a craft beer swap. If you buy a case that isn't chilled, there are 24 singles on the counter which you can swap one of the beers from your case with (as long as one of yours isn't already in there) and get to try a new craft brew. Great idea. Final verdict: Selection on par with the Beer Yard but with the advantage of being in the city, being far better laid out and clearly displaying prices on the shelves. read more

I had planned to go to Bells beverage because i heard they were the cheapest in town, but on my way to south street to grab some tasty falafel I drove right past Bella Vista Beverage. There was ample parking right in front with a sign that said no angle parking, though there were about 50 cars angle parked, so I just eased right in. The place is very roomy, and on my visit everything had prices on the shelf the cases were sitting on. The 1st isle was all Belgian and import beers, a little above my price range. I made it around to the macro brews, then the micro and craft. Bingo, they had exactly what I was looking for, the sampler and variety packs, and a lot of them. The prices were clearly marked on a hanging laminated piece of paper, though a couple were missing. Price: Seemed pretty on par, or a bit on the expensive side. My 12 pack troegs sampler was $36 The man working at the front desk was nice and made a joke about a song playing on the radio. read more

They sold me a piece of equipment that was used for full price. They told me it was the last one they had and that it was the same price as a brand new one- it was dirty and there was old beer in it. Unbelievable variety, clearly marked aisles, helpful staff, and a nice section of premium (read: classy) beers up front. Yeah, going to Jersey or Delaware is probably cheaper (not by much, though). I happily strolled in here one fine afternoon. I was glad to see such a great selection. The prices aren't terrific but most of the beer sellers in the area aren't, but at least you can get a great variety by the case. I picked up a case of Mission Brewing Co. Heavy seas Russian Imperial Stout for $52. This may seem steep, but when these bottles usually run around 7-8$ each, paying around 2$ doesn't sound so bad. I also saw a mixed case of Hawaiian beers I enjoyed in spades when I was there last year (Kona Fire blend, Long board lager) and many others. They have a chilled section and just floor pick up. Bella Vista has a GREAT selection of cases and kegs, and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Couple that with a clean, spacious store in a relatively central location of the city, and this is WooHoo! beer shopping at its best. I'm happy to pay a slight mark-up for the convenience of the location. As a non car-owning city dweller, a trip for a case of beer usually requires bumming a ride or renting a car. Bella Vista is close enough that I can walk my beer home, or easily grab a cab on 11th Street if I have more than one case. read more
