The food is relatively good but the weekend breakfast service is so slow (maybe it's a Canadian thing), I almost missed my flight, I was waiting for a vegeterian omelette for around 45 minutes, it was slightly ridiculous, the ladies working there are nice, especially Kristina, the blond girl. It is located in a central spot, opposite the Art Gallery so does get quite busy especially if events are on. I would come back if I had nowhere to rush but if you have things planned and are not as laid-back as the locals, you better go next door to another coffee shop and grab something quick. read more

My friend and I had the opportunity to try their Salmon covered flat bread and Bruschetta flatbread. It was delicious. The Salmon was outstanding. This place deserves zero stars. I've been here three times, two times of which I was not served. I emailed management my concerns but they could not care less and have not replied after over ten days. The first time was nothing special. Waitresses did do their job and I was able to get my breakfast order to go in a decent amount of time. Food was good, albeit on the expensive side. Because I work close by, I then tried twice more to get some food here. Mind you the hours are listed as 7AM-11:00PM daily, and both times I went at around 8:30PM on a weeknight hoping to get something to go. There were no signs saying that the kitchen was closing early on either night. The second time I stood by the door for a very long time, with several servers walking by me, making eye contact with me, and just ignoring until I looked at the security camera, noted my disgust and walked out. The third time, I walked up to the waitress and asked for something to go only for her to tell me that the kitchen is closed for the night at 8:30PM. I asked if I could get a coke to go and she started to ring me up. Right as I was going to hand her my card, she deleted my order and said "hold on let me get this table first". Why would you ring me up only to delete my order then? Was it because that table of six was going to give you a better tip? I watched her for a few seconds, fumbling around with the machine, and walked out. I emailed a polite email to management asking why this is. I never received a reply. It sucks because working late at Microsoft, a lot of us researchers get hungry when we are working overtime and this place is near and opens apparently until 11PM. We will definitely walk the extra whatever amount to not be refused service. I'll make sure to recommend that people avoid this place. It's quite telling though that this place is never even half full. Worst service in the city and truly astonishing each time that I think there should be some kind of award for this motivated mediocrity. read more

The server was pretty good but my hot chocolate was luke-warm, and they made me the wrong fritatta. The one that came out first actually looked really good but I was set on having the one I ordered which had sounded good so I sent it back (unusual for me). I waited and waited and waited and finally the "right" one arrived, the Venezia, but I swear there was no meat in it (only apples) and that the cheese was mozzarella and not brie. It was pretty tasteless and uninteresting. And to top it off, the manage checked on me and even after hearing my complaint (also unusual for me), I didn't receive any kind of discount or apology. read more

This is a cute little café right next to the Fairmont and across from Robson Square and the Vancouver Art Gallery. I've eaten here twice, once with a friend for dinner and once with my mom for appies. Both times were decent, good value for money and the service, though nothing special, was certainty sufficient. The half price appies are a smokin' good deal - we ordered the salmon flatbread, the calamari and the garlic fries with two beers and it was enough food for an army! I ended up bringing half of it home and the bill was under $40. Would definitely return. This place seems to be crawling with cruise ship tourists in the summer months and is can get quite loud inside. Sit on the deck if you can or come outside of regular lunch/dinner hours for a better experience. read more

Quaint little cafe across the street from the art gallery. Both inside and sidewalk seating. Food very tasty, but staff and kitchen easily overrun when busy. Tables not bussed, not enough dishes, glasses, etc. Staff very friendly though and had pleasant experience. Definitely recommend when not so busy for afternoon coffee or libation. Location, location, location. In that regard, Bellagio has it made, being situated as it is on Hornby St., directly across from the Vancouver Art Gallery and only steps from Robson in the heart of downtown. To be honest, I go there as much for the food as for the pleasant atmosphere, which features art books scattered all around for diners' perusal and an HDTV with scenic flyovers of Italy in constant rotation. It's a nice place to meet friends or relax by oneself (free wireless!). The only sore point, aesthetically speaking, is the montage on the left wall comparing images from James Cameron's Avatar with images from a cartoon series called Terra Incognita created by the restaurant's owner. Maybe you read about the lawsuit in the papers. The food? The food is great, but it's a bit pricey, considering what you get. $16 for a plate of spaghetti with no bread, salad, or side of any form seemed kind of steep to me, even if it was the best plate of spaghetti I've had in Vancouver since the Macaroni Grill closed a few years back. They put out a nice breakfast, too, and at $9.99, it's a pretty good deal. No, it's not mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall kind of cheap, but this is downtown Vancouver we're talking about, and it certainly beats going to Denny's and paying around the same price. I thought it was overpriced compared to the usual place we go to on the 24th. The books on top of the head rests of the boths were a turnoff. My husband and I came here for lunch because it is close to the art gallery. It was busy so I thought it must be pretty good. I was wrong. I ordered the gnocchi and my husband ordered the chicken and brie sandwich. My I only ate half of the gnocchi because it wasn't fully cooked. So I picked out the fully cooked pieces and left the mushy ones. My husband's sandwich was good except there was only chicken on half of it. I wish we had looked at yelp before we came. Hope you checked your stars BEFORE you dined, unlike us. When you charge as much as this place does, the food and service should be impeccable, but this place is far from it. I ordered a white wine but was given the red wine of the same name instead. I used the restroom, and it was nasty and dirty. I thought, "What does that say about the kitchen?" Lastly, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, and when I took my first bite, I bit into something hard. I hoped it was a misplaced chicken bone, but it was a piece of black plastic. While I was there, we saw at least one other entire pizza and appetizer get returned to the kitchen. I didnt order anything else, so I didnt have the opportunity to experience paying for my meal, but my friends who were with me were charged for a more expensive dish than the one they actually had. Cons: They do not fully cook the eggs (or even close) when you order eggs benedict, our waitress did not understand what a "glass of house wine" meant, processed the payment wrong and the service was glacier speed. Pizza is the only edible thing this place can make (thank the lord something was edible) as this is supposed to be an 'Italian' place. Forget the food. Service was even worse. How do people leave good reviews about this place? When it takes 10 minutes to bring an additional plate when the restaurant is empty, that's it! I started to think that people who leave good comments here about this place are the same guys sitting at the patio seats flirting with the waitresses.
