This place is literally a facility to go into if you or your child are serious or want to get a good feel for the intensity of playing baseball. Having been an all-around athlete myself, Coach Clarence reminds me of my school coaches who would say, "Listen, Focus and Perform." No fluff, no time to play - Seriously, "Batter Up!" You get your money's worth with Coach Clarence with hitting clubs and individual practice slots. Coach Austin is great for running mechanics. Glad Brock's baseball team coach Jason Espeseth set up a batting practice period at this facility months ago. We've gone back on our own and will continue to go see Coach Clarence regularly. Some days are more crowded than others but my son just muscles his way in. Sit back and let them learn from the best.

After several months not swinging the bat, my sons swing was pretty bad, and Clarence took time to not only make sure we were squared away in the cage, but also to help my son and I to improve his stance, his mechanics and even mentally. He agreed to give my son an hour lesson. My son went and enjoyed himself. ----- All they care about is what they can extract from you in the moment. It's quite odd that they would rather take $50 today instead of nurturing a long term relationship. Previously we had some good experiences and used them during off season, even did a camp with them. My son couldn't find his equipment before the lesson, so I tried to call to see if we'd need it or not. However, we had the first slot of the day. So I called as soon as they opened, but they didn't pick up and it went to voicemail. We got someone to borrow the equipment and raced over. By the time we got there, they had given my son's appointment slot to another kid... And TOOK our $50 for the lesson. They refused to let us make it up. Even though we made the appointment last night and all thier slots were open and they weren't available for us to see what Thier policy is, etc. I just found the coach who was now busy with another kid during our time slot and the manager incredibly poor at customer service. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. To top it off, it was a birthday present from his aunt!! They didn't care. They stuck to thier policy and we're uncaring, showing no empathy. So we will never go back again. In the end they took our$50, but lost out on hundreds more over the next 3 years.

There is also a large grassy area for toddlers to run around (ours loves to run on the grass). Lots of beautiful live oaks. Had no issue finding parking on the adjacent street. The only things missing were the tall slide, merry-go-rounds, and a jungle gym. However, the old (and now, kitschy), well made and maintained pieces make this one of my favorite parks in Houston. Also, its a piece of old Houston; it was established in 1926. This Rice University area park has a neighborhood organization that takes excellent care of the area. To the tune of $10,000 per year. As well they should, it's one of the last bastions of built-to-last playgrounds. Steel and wood and charm, no plastic. Who doesn't remember climbing on the pumpkin stagecoach at Pumpkin Park? Fleming Park is meant to be charming and unforgettable. If playground equipment isn't your thing, there are plenty of picnic tables, oak trees, and general relaxation areas. A perfect pocket picnic park. There's also a couple of tennis courts, two B-ball hoops, and a baseball diamond. There is no sign for the park, only a list of park rules and a community board. If you're uncertain that you are at the correct park, look for a 15' Totem Pole Bird House that was erected in 1991 by Fletcher Mackey. It is constructed of Cypress and Cedar Wood, ceramic, copper, and painted steel. One item of sadness, some idiot(s) stole the lamb spring ride back in January. There are signs on the community board with a photo and plea for its return. Rather, I should say "her." She was named "Mary the Lamb." Again, she's very, very cute, has a snow white fleece, and a giant metal spring attached to her underside.

They also had monkeys, a petting zoo, flamingos, exotic birds, penguins.... I might have missed some there were just so many. The kids arcade was cool because it's essentially free play. There was also a bowling alley and it looked like a water slide but it was closed that day. Tennis courts everywhere and pickleball courts too. I didn't see the gym. The food they offered wasn't the greatest for how much they charge but I didn't pay for anything so maybe it was just the food that they provided that was mediocre. We did ask the staff to cook the pizza some more as it was kind of undercooked and doughy and the staff was extremely nice and didn't have a problem helping us out. I spoke to one of the members while I was relaxing in the patio area and he was telling me about all of the events for members that are free with the membership. Really cool place.

I am back to write again about the horrible state of the women's locker room. The entire women's…read morelocker room should be condemned. Almost every single shower is lined with mold. The vents are lined with mold. Most of the lockers rarely work. The carpet may be from when they opened. It's super matted, stained and disgusting. To top it off the sign for westside is dirty. They do an amazing job taking care of all the animals. Matter a fact the animals enclosure are cleaned daily but and they even got new penguins. But they have yet to even redo the women's locker room. To add the indoor hot tub, cold plunge area was redone but is rarely cleaned. There is still grime around the poles and it's generally sopping wet in there with hairs and dirt everywhere. It's unhygienic and unsanitary. Westside please do better. The gym has everything you need. However as far as maintenance of areas and cleanliness it's a 1-Star. Who what's yoninhsle mood while showering. And the cold plunge and hot tub area/pools still reeks of mold. So they may have redone the area but whatever they did did not remove the mold smell that sticks to your body when utilizing the indoor hot tub and indoor cold plunge. Maybe it needs new piping and better extreme ventilation.

Along with their move, came some much needed upgrades. 6+ volleyball courts, separating nets, gym, turf training area, concessions, restrooms, matted flooring, seating, etc. Everything is just so much nicer than their old location. I'd say the only downside is no AC other than fans for when it's hot. If it's cold, wear a long sleeve and you'll be fine. Open gym is every Tues, Thurs, and Sun I believe. It used to be $5/person, but now it's $10/person. But I honestly don't mind the small price increase if it means this place stays in business for years to come. Covid has affected many small businesses so please to everyone in the Houston volleyball community, support Spike Sport. You can also rent a private court depending on availability for $55/hr. Even though the Sunset Bingo MC was difficult to hear while seated on the grass, the staff were more than willing to rearrange some tables to accommodate the growing crowd. On my way to the (super clean!) restroom I I saw that they had a reading room, which made me instantly fall in love! They also have an arts & craft station with materials free to use. There were many families with young kids enjoying the water playground areas. The fact that they have family reservations available lets me know that this park is well aware of its draw and appeal. Birthdays? reunions? book a spot! The nearby restaurants and easy parking are major pluses. Levy Park has a packed calendar of events so I'm bound to be back before the summer ends.
