We started with an order of the Old Bay Chicken Wings that had the most delicious homemade blu cheese and the Greek platter. Both were outstanding. For my main entree I had the Crispy Chicken Thighs, which were good but way too greasy. This is the first visit for me since the change in ownership. They still have old favorites like the smashburger, but also new items. The orange fennel salmon had a perfect sear and was super-tasty on the pea and cremini mushroom risotto with orange-garlic cream sauce. So many great flavors. Also remarkable in the flavor category was the Nordic spiced apple and cranberry cider mulled with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and orange. The food was special. They should be proud. Was hoping it had gotten better - it hasn't. Ordered the Carolina Pork sandwich- that was very good and a nice amount. It had the option of a cup of soup on the side. I got the black bean soup - which years ago used to be good. Unfortunately it was a lukewarm almost broth like soup. It had a dolop of sour cream on top. I didn't mix the sour cream w the soup. Just tasted the soup and it was lukewarm. Waitress said it was due to sour cream. Nope - not reason. Instead of giving us a new cup and nuking it, they nuked it w the sour cream. Yuck. We also got a smash burger that was promised not to b tough. It was Very tough and I was cutting it w a knife. Also got the Adult thyme lemonade...it came in a tall glass. This review is for the staff. I was there one afternoon and witnessed the owner yell at a server. I'm not sure everything that happened, but he yelled "well if you read the f***ing ticket you'd know that's not it!" Then the server was trying to say something and he said "just f***ing read". Then I saw the server walk away in tears to the bathroom. Even though I don't know all the details, you shouldn't talk to your staff like that. read more

The cafe has new owners.The menu is limited with high prices. The winter greens salad was on a small plate for $15. I added grilled chicken for an additional $8. Disgusting! My plate of hummus stuffed avocado with tomato, Greek olives and what was supposed to be nice bread crisps was all thrown together on the messy plate with the bread looking like pieces from the bottom of a bag, soggy on the bottom of the plate. The server was inexperienced and couldn't handle the problem. No manager or chef was interested to address the issue. I gave 2 stars because I love sitting on the porch. It was a beautiful day and we ate outside, which was a big plus. The waiter came out with the wrong soup and since I didn't know what to expect I started eating it. Then he came out, took it away and brought another soup, which wasn't very hot but it was a flavorful soup. It was a very small cup for six dollars, and it certainly was more than it should have been. when I asked for crackers, he said they didn't have any. That's ridiculous for six dollars. Bellefonte Cafe is certainly very unique and eclectic! Upon researching some brunch spots in the area, this one kept coming up, and I'm glad that we got to try it. Making a reservation is very easy on Open Table, I was even able to make one on Sunday a few hours before actually coming in. I believe that the reservations are required during the COVID situation. We sat outside at around 1:00 p.m., and we had the whole patio area to ourselves. I thought it was really cool that each table came with a fly swatter, definitely a nice touch and totally necessary. Their patio area is definitely really cute and really well thought out. Though it was pretty hot out that day, the umbrellas in the shade definitely make you feel more comfortable. There are a lot of interesting options on their brunch menu, anything from Eggs Benedict to Huevos Rancheros. I got the eggs Benedict, and I thought that having prosciutto on them was a really nice touch. I also really love the fresh salad on the side, the cherry tomatoes were bomb! My fiance got the hummus stuffed avocado, and substituted the crostini that normally comes with the dish for some pita. I think that was a good call! For dessert, we tried Sweet Potato Bourbon Cheesecake with Sour Cream topping. Sounds pretty intense because it is! It tasted more like a sweet potato pie, not as much as a cheesecake, but either way was definitely really delicious! We were treated really well the whole time, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Since the weather was extremely nice, my Husband and I thought we would go for the Sunday brunch and sit outside. Due to only being 2 waitresses, the outside back seating was closed so we sat on the porch. When entering, we were asked if we had reservations by the waitress with her hand on her hip in a tone that was not inviting, which we did. After being seated, we ordered and felt like we were interrupting her day with her rough attitude. When my Husband asked for the check, she slammed it down on the table. Very disappointed in the owners with the menu and allowing her attitude! Driving home from Ocean City MD we wanted to stop for lunch. Looking for places to eat on my GPS the Bellefonte Cafe popped up so off we go. I LOVE the vibe of this place. It's so eclectic. Our server was so nice. We decided on the Cubanos. The pork was so tender and I love that they used procuitto instead of ham. The poblano bisque was amazing!!!!! I came here with my mom one morning for breakfast. She loves live music and always makes a big deal about it even though I don't care. She got reservations and swore that this place will fill up so we can't miss them. She sure was right! There were signs on the door saying reservations only. It was kind of unusual for a small town brunch spot. We ordered some food and it came out reasonably quickly even though I heard service was slow. The band began to play and they were pretty good, even though the kid on the drums looked bored out of his mind. I ordered the Cubano, hummus platter, and some drink that they were pushing. The drink was very sweet but tasty. The sandwich was delicious! We had a nice time listening to the music and talking. The bathroom was also pretty neat. Great food! I stopped into the cafe yesterday during the art festival with a group of friends. The wait staff were all very friendly and accommodating even though we had a big group. Overall it was a good experience but it did seem a bit chaotic. It was an all hands on deck situation, maybe because it was busy, but I think it caused some confusion on who ordered what and what had already been brought out. I asked for Splenda for my iced tea and a fork a few times from different waiters that stopped by but unfortunately never got either. I ordered the Moroccan plate and it was good but not amazing. I love this little gem. The bartender is very friendly and laid back. They have local beers in tap from the Bellefonte Brewery. We had some beers and some guacamole. The amount of chips was plenty with a good portion of guacamole. Sorry for no picture, I ate the delicious guac as fast as I could devour it. They have a porch and an outdoor area to chill in when you are loving the outdoors. They have a small good diverse selection of bottle beers., liquor, and even coffee stuff (not a coffee drinker). I soied some fancy coffee machine. I am sure it makes something delicious for the coffee worshippers. I did see the bartender make a blue margarita pitcher that looked very delicious. Service, ambiance, service all 5 stars. On this beautiful summer night we had a relaxing, chill dining experience in this hidden gem in a tiny neighborhood of North Wilmington called Bellfonte. Located in an old house with a wrap around porch for outside dining, this place is a hidden gem. But the real thrill of dining here is the patio out back. There are maybe 6 or 7 umbrellaed tables set out back under trees in a nicely landscaped garden. Adding to the ambiance were umbrella lights and tiki torches. The libations menu was a nice surprise when we saw the very reasonable prices. Vegan Options are included in this eclectic and exciting menu. I had a hard time choosing but went with the Baltimore Slammer cold sandwich which was made with apple wood smoked bacon, guacamole, lettuce,tomato with chipotle aioli on a choice of bread. The chips that accompanied it were very good. Maybe homemade? My honey had the Carolina BBQ pork sandwich with apple slaw, chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll. Our service was attentive and perfect.
