Excellent food; family like atmosphere, all of employees make you feel welcome... We had fried chicken, chicken fried ribeye, fried catfish, and chicken strips all excellent and served hot. Will never eat here again. The restaurant is dark and dingy inside. Floor is so sticky your shoes catch as you walk. The chairs are so sticky they kept catching out clothes. They have the paper towels in the bathroom in the back of the toilet where they catch fecal matter when the toilet is flushed. Honestly, can't they pay for a paper towel holder? The atmosphere is comfortable and the service is great. The food is prepared well, but when I think of Belle's Dinner House unfortunately what I think of is "Waste". The portions are huge and there is so much waste. I almost felt guilty the only time I went there. Winner, winner chicken dinner! Ok, so that's kind of hack, but it really sums up this place. First let me say that I'm not a fried chicken fanatic, I don't like "secret recipe's" or " extra spicy ", but I remember my grandma' fried chicken and loved every bite. Belle's chicken brings back those memories, crispy, juicy, just the right amount of crust and not overpowered with a bunch of unnecessary spices. A chicken dinner consists of a 1/2 of a LARGE chicken and all of the corn, green beans, mashed taters, gravy and rolls you can eat. The only weak spot is the gravy, good but not great. Aside from the chicken , the star of the meal are the rolls. Hot, fluffy and fresh, add a little butter and honey and I'm in heaven. Price is very reasonable, chicken dinner is 13.95. For 2 adults and 2 kids we ordered 3 dinners and everyone was stuffed and we still went home with enough for lunch the next day! I love the funky decor and the staff is great. Be sure to come hungry. I had fried chicken and was so happy with my choice. One the best I've ever had. Other meats include baked chicken, chicken tenders, catfish and chicken fried steak. You have unlimited sides of corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. The rolls are heavenly so I got bread pudding for dessert (to go because I was stuffed). Wish they were open more! We had never been here but I can assure you that the next time we head through Abilene on a trip we will stop here. I love that they don't have a menu. Your options are few and it's all served up family style. The food is good ol' home style cooking. Everything was really good but the fried catfish....it tasted a little too fishy for me but the tarter sauce was amazing so it covered it up. This is a really neat restaurant. They serve family style sides (intimate refills!) and chicken mains. The chicken tenders are pretty good, and the atmosphere is quirky and home style. We went around 5pm, and we didn't have terribly great service, and it seemed to take a while to get the food out (hence the 4 stars). With that being said, this is truest a great place to go if you want a homey atmosphere or a lot of good food. Definitely an Abilene staple. read more

I had not been to Belles in a while , so it was sad to discover they have given in , whether it be laziness or cost factor, to using INSTANT mashed potatoes . Obviously the meal was not the same with sand like completely artificial mashed potatoes . We can all run out to mediocre restaurants and eat our fill of cheap and easy instant potatoes . You don't expect it from Belles . This is most likely the first step in the disintegration of a good place to eat . My wife and I were visiting from Dallas and found this to be very similar to the local babes restaurants in the Dallas area. Family style serving. Fried chicken is the most popular item. I loved my experience here. The atmosphere was calming like at grandma's house. I had the fried chicken dinner. It came with 4 pieces of chicken (1 of each: thigh, breast, leg, and wing), and unlimited sides of: homemade mashed potatoes, corn, string beans, and rolls for only 12.99 before the 30% military discount. The food was fresh and the portions were large. I wouldn't consider this a soulfood restaurant (due to the selection offered and seasoning style); however, they do provide a good home-cooked style meal. The staff was extra pleasant and attentive. Ate here last week and it was wonderful. The ribeye CFS is out of this world tender. Really love their system of family style sides. Country rustic decor was wonderful. No menus because they serve you bowls of mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, and green beans. Then you have a choice on your meat. Fried chicken is moist & dumplings are just like Grandma use to make. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I'm honesty so upset I even spent my money here. My husband has been raving about this place, but I just don't get it. Strike number one- one hostess on duty, had to wait to be seated for 5 minutes as the wait staff just kept walking by us. Strike two- their mashed potatoes are instant, and disgusting. Why would I wanna pay $16+ a person for instant potatoes as a side, ew. Third strike, as soon as our food was on the table our waitress left our check and had 0 intentions of checking back up on us. Also, the bathrooms only have 1 toilet, and this places was pretty busy. 7 months pregnant and having to wait 10 minutes just to use the bathroom? That's a no go. We will not ever be returning to give them our business. 32.99 for my husband and I is just ridiculous for the poor service and nasty food. read more
