The good: our movers were excellent. The lead mover was absolutely incredible. The bad: the lead mover was the only one who showed up for the first 2.5 hours of our move. The other two didn't show up, and Bellhops had to scramble to find additional movers to come and replace them. My husband hurt himself while trying to assist the lead mover (who was still trying to move everything himself), while waiting for the others to arrive. Bellhops offered a 15% discount on my move, but still required us to pay for the time any of the movers were on property. It was an incredibly stressful experience on what is already a stressful day. Can't say I'll use them again. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Worst moving experience of all time. Movers didn't wrap large furniture as was promised when I booked with Bellhop. The provided truck was not water tight and leaked throughout the 3 hour drive to the new place (it rained that day). Two of the three movers sent to unload the truck abandoned the job - we had to move everything ourselves. We had at least 5k worth of water damage from the leaking truck - Bellhop offered me $60 in compensation and still expected me to pay for the service. Unbelievable. When I booked my move, I was told it would take about 2-3 hours to move my one bedroom apartment. It took 8 hours. They told me later that they calculated time estimate with a team of 5 movers, but they only sent 2. They still won't tell me why. Four hours in I went to check on the truck and found that a lot of my things, including my suitcases, had been sitting outside the truck, in full view of passersby, for several hours. Just fine. My two bellhops showed up on time/a bit early which was great. However, apparently they were not informed about the job at all other than there being no stairs. So there was no communication about the items needing to be moved. Additionally, the efficiency could have been better. More than once, one or both bellhops was on their phone. The move went over an hour over the 2 hour window I reserved, which was disappointing. Perhaps I needed 3 bellhops and was only advised 2. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! My son was moving to an apartment in DC. He had the elevator and parking from 3:00 - 6:00 on Friday. 3:00 comes around and no BELLHOPS. My son calls and is told the guys didn't show up for work!?!?! He didn't even get a call!!! They said they would try and find some guys for the move ON SUNDAY?!?!?! TL;DR: Do not use Bellhops. Uber-like services are great for certain things, but moving is a whole new ballgame, and Bellhops did not step up to the plate. As a young person who has rented a lot of apartments, I'm familiar with the stress of moving with a friend's car and an array of poorly-packed boxes. I wanted to avoid that this time as I'm a young professional and thought I was beyond that. I got recommendations for local moving companies but decided to go with Bellhops because their sign-up process was so seamless. (I will say that that is one perk - their website and appointment process is very clean.) Everything was fine until moving day. The website is straight forward, I received several emails ahead of moving day to prepare. Then comes moving day. My two Bellhops (very sweet guys) showed up - but the truck did not. One bellhop kept calling HQ to get an answer but they just kept delaying him and saying they were trying to find the truck. So I thought I'd step in to help out. I called HQ several times and finally got this less-than-satisfactory answer from a customer service rep: "Sorry, we can't find your truck. And we can't find a replacement. But we'll give you a discounted rate to find a Uhaul or another company." Upset, standing in my apartment with 20+ boxes and two helpless but very nice Bellhops, I finally got a refund. I'm extremely disappointed in Bellhops. I chose it over other reputable local businesses for the sake of ease - but little did I know it caused much more chaos and stress than if I'd just gone with a local company. Don't start a company if you can't figure out logistics like Plan B's and contingency plans when things go awry. Overall, the online application and pre-move emails from Bellhops were helpful. The entire process was seamless. With just two days before my move from Upper Marlboro to Montgomery County/DC area, I was in dire need of a reliable moving company. Bellhops Moving delivered excellent service and helped to redeem my horror stories with other moving companies. I was scheduled for a 3-hour move with a 9am start time, but they finished the move in just a little over 2 hours. I was only charged for the amount of time spent, and did not have any unexpected charges at the end. The driver arrived about 15-20 minutes early, and the lead bellhop was not too far behind. Before the second bellhop arrived, the lead bellhop had already moved most of my items out of the house. When the second mover arrived, all items were swiftly moved onto the truck and strapped down within about 30 minutes. The movers had been to my new address before, so they were familiar with the setup and loading dock. They also displayed excellent communication with the driver, who knew exactly where he was going. The offloading was very swift, professional, and organized. Devonte (lead bellhop) and Michael were very nice, attentive to my instructions, and careful in their every move with my things. Unacceptable experience, and I wouldn't work with them again even if they offered it for free. I would give zero stars if that were an option. Bellhops cancelled my fiancee's move within 12 minutes of the original appointment time, offered a guaranteed rescheduled time 2 days later, and then cancelled that move too within 45 minutes stating they didn't have an available truck to use. They offered no apology, compensation, or rescheduling within the next 5 days and kept us on hold for at least 10 minutes every time we called their customer service line. I would not reschedule with them even if they offered it for free because I have no reason to believe they would show up. read more

So, the truck was a little late and the truck driver didn't have a toolkit, but overall it was a great experience! Pros: The movers were great - they showed up early, disassembled and reassembled everything properly, and were very friendly. Bellhop completely screwed me over and left me scrambling to move at the last minute. I had booked my move weeks in advance and was all set to move. Two movers showed up with NO TRUCK. They offered to go to a U-Haul that's 30 minutes away but I have designated move-in/out times that I had established with multiple folks at Bellhop. Movers ask if I have dollies and moving supplies (answer is NO). Bellhop corporate then calls me and asks if I can go to U-Haul and they'll reimburse me $200. However, U-Haul has no available trucks. I ended up having to send the movers home (tipped) and calling other movers who were prepared and luckily came through for me at the last hour. If you use Bellhop, make sure they have a truck. Corporate Bellhop were not sympathetic and kept transferring me around. I felt bad for the movers as they showed up. Overall, horrible experience. read more

The movers were both extremely late: the lead mover was late by over 90 minutes and the junior one by 30 minutes (supposedly he said he was waiting outside my building, but didn't call me or the truck driver who was on time). I didn't even see the younger guy, he might have been in the truck but the amount he brought out was so little, that the team lead kept complaining to me how that guy was slow and he "never wanted to f***ing work with him again." These types of expletive-laced complaints continued all day. On top of that, they completely damaged my dresser, rendering it unusable, scratched up my nice wooden bookcase and my desk, and they kept dropping fragile things and other boxes from the shoddy dollys that they brought. Finally, they completely tore the paint off of the door at my new apartment because they didn't think to turn the chair around so that the legs don't scrape it. I have submitted a damage claim for all of these items. Then, Bellhop has the complete GAUL to charge me more than double what was estimated. You claim this is because we went over time, but had you sent two professional, trained movers ON TIME, we would have finished within the 3 hours I booked. This is an absolute appalling way to treat customers. This kind of unprofessionalism--not to mention the serious damages--is NOT okay. It's like an uber for movers. I moved a small 1br apartment across town (22 mi) (supposed to start at 3pm). The estimate pre-GroupOn discount was $507 (Labor Rate (3 bellhops + truck) $129/hr). I've done this move for $350 flat with 2 guys, but after the GroupOn it was estimated to be $307. All of the bellhops got lost finding my apartment on a dead-end street. They were all at least 15min late on opposite sides of my building. The truck was really late. I took the movers to get some gatorade in the bodega and then started staging my stuff on the loading dock. The truck driver didn't speak english and could not follow their directions which cost more time to get him situated. When we left the truck went the wrong way in rush hour traffic. I called the driver to give him directions. He feigned ignorance. I called again and he didn't answer his phone again until he got to my new home. I called operations and customer support who told me they would adjust my bill for the time off. The truck was 25 min late getting to my new location. The bellhops went to lunch because why not...there was nothing to move. When the truck showed they did get everything off really fast and put everything where I asked them to. I tipped them cash. My final bill end up being $676 adjusted labor @ $169/hr to $641.00 (BellHop1 for 4hr 00m @ $69.00/hr $276.00 BellHop2 for 3hr 30m @ $30.00/hr $105.00 BellHop3 for 4hr 00m @ $30.00/hr $120.00 Truck for 3hr 30m @ $40.00/hr $140.00) - $20 for the late truck and - $15 for a late bellhop - $200 GroupOn = $441 Total $134 more than the quote of $307. If you are moving on a budget, I would not recommend. If you have wiggle room I would only recommend with GroupOn. Who knows how much a 2br or house would cost to move. *they do give you a nice breakdown of the charges, but still pricey for simple moves and no access to the app that bellhops use to track each other. read more

I'm being generous with 2 stars. Three guys showed up on moving day. Everything was packed. Loaded the truck took the freeway to new location, I don't drive freeways, at my age. They arrived soon enough to have unloaded everything by the time my husband & I arrived. The day before our move I paid almost $500.00 to move across town, tops 15 miles. It was a three hr. Job to load travel and unload. 10:AM- 1:Pm. I wasn't in our new apt. 10 min. when two of the guys were out the door & I gave the "lead" mover a very generous gratuity to split 3 ways. Oh yes! The larger living room tv was set on the opposite side of the room, cable connection on other wall. our King size headboard left not behind the front of bed but laid against side wall. ALL boxes large and small were stacked in front of the laundry area doors. Paid to have them moved. At almost 80 yrs. old I couldn't move them ! Two days later my bank acct. gets charged another $50.+. I called Their office , " movers worked 20 min. over the 3 hrs?" NOT! The lead guy walked out at 3 min. 'til one. After a weak apology that " sometimes they forget to clock out after they get back in the truck" ? This charge was reimbursed. The worst was discovered weeks later. Husband has several health issues at 81 yrs. old. His Lazy Boy remote recliner wouldn't work. Finally had time to call a repair man. He moved the chair away from the wall and 1st question was " where's the power cord? To replace only close to $300.00! I failed to oversee movers every move. Called office again. " You had two days to complain, we'll try to find out names of movers" & call back 3 days later, " it wasn't in the truck, we don't have it." Case closed. Moral of story ? This is not a professional moving company, they find people to assist with your move like task rabbit or something-not professional and licensed movers. There were mechanical issues with the moving truck they provided AND several of my belongings were broken. For all of this inconvenience I was offered a 25% discount. Customer service took 2 days to call me back about my issues and left things unresolved. DO NOT USE BELLHOPS UNDER SNY CIRCUMSTANCE. The mover took apart one of my beds and lost the pieces to the bed-leaving it unusable. They also broke my TV. The liftgate on the truck they provided was broken, hence, the mover was literally jumping in and out of the truck like Spiderman. read more

My movers were great, but the coordination by Bellhop was terrible. We were scheduled to start at 2PM, but because Bellhop had booked a much longer move for someone else earlier in the day, we didn't actually get started until 6PM. We received two calls over the course of the delay with suedo updates on the ETA but no significant effort to get us rolling quicker. My boyfriend and I wasted an entire afternoon waiting on updates when we could have been using that time transporting things to our new place ourselves. After 45 minutes on the phone the next day, the Bellhop customer service rep said he received approval to give me 20% off the move which was laughable. He even had the audacity to say "you know sometimes moves take longer than anticipated" as if I wasn't familiar with the process. The company did not value my time as a customer or take any responsibility for their own negligence in the scheduling process. read more

Moving couldn't be made any easier than with Bellhops. I had the unfortunate task of moving out of my apartment during COVID. But Bellhops was up to the task, efficiently and carefully moving my furniture and boxes with ease and providing excellent customer service before, during, and following the move. They provided an estimate ahead of time based on the inventory that needed moving and the distance of the move. I even had a secondary location to offload some furniture that they were able to accomodate with not much of an extra charge.
