You should know in advance that Bellhops are not movers. They are coordinators/brokers who make arrangements with actual movers and moving companies. This isn't disclosed well (or at all) in advance, which comes across as a shady business practice. The reason I am nonetheless giving them 4 stars is that the actual movers they sent were excellent. Michael R. and Darioush H. were very conscientious, helped with all sorts of small tasks along the way, including the expert way they packed my storage pod at the end. They made efficient use of the time and greatly reduced the stress of moving. If the review was based just on the actual move, I would happily give 5 stars. I would nonetheless warn folks that you have no idea till the night before you move who will actually be doing the moving, so you are relying on Bellhops to adequately screen the movers. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. We scheduled our move with Bellhop when our other movers bailed on us last minute. Initially we were relieved when Bellhop was able to accommodate us last minute. Their communication with us was initially excellent when they were accepting our money, but then the communication stopped. We tried calling their customer service line 4-5 times and remained on hold for over 35 minutes without ever being able to reach an agent. On the morning of our move approximately 20 minutes before our movers were scheduled to arrive, we received a call stating that they would not be able to come due to the rain. Absolutely horrible customer service and impossible to get ahold of. Would not recommend. read more

Mike & Mike came early and were quick and professional. They were also nice to be around, polite, and accommodating. The driver whose name I did not catch was also very friendly, polite, and professional. I had no issues, other than a few pieces of furniture with some black skid mark type stains on them after the move, which probably could have been protected/wrapped better. The marks came out in the wash and are probably typical with any move, though, and with the amount of stuff they moved for me, it's impressive that that was the only issue. Otherwise, everything was packed safely and efficiently. I hired Bellhop for a move from Cleveland to Alexandria on 06/29/2023. The day of my move, Bellhop contracted my service out to Gentle Movers. The movers were originally supposed to arrive at 8am, but instead arrived after 1pm. This company was anything but gentle. They destroyed several of my items but specifically my bedroom set that was just 2 years old. The drawers on the bed can't be inserted because all the parts are missing. I am unable to insert the drawers on the dresser & chest because the metal ball bearing tracks are missing or broken and cannot be replaced. In addition, Gentle Mover left several of my valuable items behind in Cleveland. I had to make arrangements for family members to retrieve the items left behind. I filed a claim on 7/14/2023. After emailing & calling several times, without ever speaking to me, Jennifer sent me an offer for $250. I spoke with Jack Dent, Supervisor, who stated the claim would be reviewed. Jennifer requested additional information. Before giving me a chance to respond, she sent another offer for $300 SEVERAL HOURS LATER. After sending another email & calling several times with no response, I received another offer for $250 with a 5-day response time. It doesn't say calendar or business days. The problem, they have no regard or respect for my property. I did not hire the loaders; they contracted me out & refused to compensate me for the damage done by their subcontractors. I didn't buy my bedroom set by the pound so I shouldn't be paid by the pound. Bellhop is not standing up to the ethics they betray to have. If they were, I would be fairly compensated. Avoid at all costs!!! Bellhops cancelled on us the morning of our move (5 minutes after they were supposed to arrive). They said they would work to find a replacement driver, but never called back. I had to call several times and wait on hold, only to be told that someone from customer service would have to call me back. They finally called back HOURS later, only to say that they had not identified a solution. When you're moving, you're likely taking time off work and coordinating a number of logistics. If this is true, Bellhops is NOT the company for you. We had to scramble to find another moving company at the last minute so that we could still pull off our move. Bellhops is nothing like Uber and definitely not worth the time and frustration that you'll experience as a result of their customer service. read more

As someone who has moved 6 times in 9 years... my experience with Bellhops was hands down my best moving experience. The booking of my move was a little rocky, but I am glad I stuck with my appointment and went forward with using Bellhops. My movers Michael R. and Donte D. were great!! They assisted me in moving half of my personal items to storage, and I am hoping to book them again for moving the rest of my personal belongings to my new residence. During the walk through they asked me to explain what I envisioned for my move and asked me to identify which boxes were fragile. They handled all of my belongings with care and made sure that all of my items were secure. They worked with precision and moved as professionals. I had a fantastic experience with the movers and the customer service on the phone. I also loved that there really were no hidden fees, while the service was pricey I was able to budget ahead of time without worrying about surprise fees for something silly like having stairs on my porch or rain. They also had blankets and wrap for my furniture going into the truck. A cheap bookcase broke, but that probably would've happened if I had moved it since it was made out of particle board. A couch busted as well, but it seems to be par for the course with moving companies and it was also 7 years old. Orion, Breon, and Tanoa were my movers and I can't say enough good things about them! So kind and personable, and SUPER helpful even with weird things I asked for, like help putting my window back in. It was an overall good experience. Movers came on time, performed the job very fast, and they were very professional; however, we had to do all the packing and protective coverage. For the only 2 pieces that were not covered they were scratched as the movers didn't cover them with blankets although was requested. I signed up to use bellhops because of the wonderful reviews, but I had a terrible experience with them. I have never written a review about any other business in my life, but felt that I had to write this one. The night before my move at 10pm, I got a call saying that one of my movers backed out and was asked to reschedule my move. I said I could not reschedule, because I had to be out of my apartment that day. They said they would find a replacement. The morning of my move I received a call saying that they did find a replacement. 30 minutes after my move was supposed to start, no one had showed up so I called bellhops and was told that they confirmed that the moving van had arrived but that they were having trouble getting in touch with my bellhops. I told them that there was definitely no moving van outside. After two more hours and calling back four more times, I was told that I was given misinformation a few times and that they had never found replacement movers for me so they had no one to move me. I have no idea how all of this happened, but at the end of the day they cancelled on me two hours after my move was supposed to start and said they had no way to get movers to me at all that day. This was after I had paid 70 dollars to reserve a spot on my street for the moving van, reserved the loading dock at my new place, and let me landlord know that I was moving out that day. I understand that things happen, especially with everything going on right now, but how this was handled with all the misinformation and the inability to get any backup movers was completely unacceptable. If you want to move on the day that you planned, I recommend choosing someone other than bellhops. read more

We were able to come to a compromise in compensation and although not fully compensated for my items, I was actually not expecting a full compensation. However, I do believe it was fair amount. Absolutely terrible. I hired them to move out of an apartment into a storage unit 0.5 miles away in Pittsburgh PA. 1. The team arrived without supplies. I went to my building's management team to borrow a wrench and other supplies. When I returned, they were moving and bending my assembled bed frame through a narrow freight elevator whereupon it snapped. Mind you, I asked them 10 min before not to move the bed because it was not disassembled. 2. They handled the furniture without padding or common sense. At one time I had to stop them from sliding my furniture on concrete. Most of my furniture is now with various chips and cracks at the corners and sides. 3. The team had only 0.5 mi to drive to the storage unit. They were "lost" for 2 hrs. Apparently he went to another address. I don't know why he was unable to get a hold of. For 2 hrs. 4. Bellhops claims department will not try to settle the issue expediently. They will ignore your calls/messages. It took me roughly 1 month after the move to finally speak to someone about it. To this day, they still have not been able to settle the issue with me. Bellhops, like most moving companies, outsource to local third party movers. From my experience and others that I have now read, it seems like their vetting process is very poor. You never know what you will get. read more

I'm that customer that if you do a great job, I will refer your company, if dissatisfied normally just will not use your service; however this was such a messy situation that left my family and I really emotional and disappointed. I will keep it short and say, this is not a company to use! They had two of their three team members call out and they were unable to get replacements to come. If it wasn't for the team lead that remained in contact with me, I would've not known about the problem. Although they were down one crew member, this dynamic duo knocked out my move like a piece of cake - this, despite Darius being trapped in my building's elevator for nearly an hour! (In fact, the fire department had to come open the door for him because the maintenance guy onsite was unable to do so.) I also want to recognize Darius' extraordinary furniture wrapping skills. He is lightening fast and adds just enough material to keep goods from becoming damaged in transit. I had no idea wrapping furniture in plastic was even offered through Bellhops - what a great, value-added service! I can't forget to mention Michael. While he may be new to the moving business, never have I worked with a more pleasant and thoroughly professional individual as he. As a recent college graduate, I wanted to find movers who were reasonably cheap and fast. My move was from a 1 bedroom apartment in Arlington, VA to a 1 bedroom in Washington, DC (approximately 7.5 miles). To begin, the customer service of the company is great. Someone always answers and they were more than helpful and communicated well with me through the process. My original quote was for 2 movers for 3 hours ($387 total, I have attached a screenshot). I was also able to get a $50 discount from the company through GroupOn so my total should have been $337. My first issue with the company was a lack of communication on the phone when I booked. I booked about 3 days before my move and did not know until I received email confirmation the next day that they do not move TVs without boxes. They can provide you with a TV box but it takes 5 days to ship to you. I was scheduled to move on a Monday from 2-5PM. I got a call the day of the move from one of the movers around 1:45PM saying the other mover would be about 15 minutes late (which I was fine with since they were not supposed to start my move until 2). Around 2 PM the truck came to my previous apartment but we had to wait 1 hour for the two movers to come. When they finally began to start I let the bellhop who was late borrow my phone charger (the reason he was late was because his phone died). I did not have a lot of things and both movers communicated that to me. So I was not expecting them to take 1 hour and 30 minutes to move my things into the truck. Just so you can have a glimpse, I had a full size bed that I had already broken down, a 55in TV, TV stand, makeup vanity, small dresser, 4 suitcases, 4 storage boxes, 3 bar stools, and about 20 medium sized boxes. Again, it took them 1 hour and 30 minutes to move these things. Because they started so late, they got caught up in rush hour traffic (which I had to pay for). It takes a 25 minute drive from my previous apartment to my new apartment but it took them 1 hour, additionally we had to wait an extra 30 minutes because the truck can only take certain routes. We ended up finishing the move around 8:30PM (5 more hours than I was expecting). On the last trip up to my apartment, the elevator "mysteriously" stopped working and I suspect that one of the Bellhops got something caught in the doorway. I have attached a screenshot of the bill they expected me to pay. On top of all of that, the same bellhop who I let borrow my charger did not return it to me. I was credited it the amount of the charger but had to follow up again to get back from him. Also, I had to follow up with the company after I had already called them to complain about the lateness of the Bellhops and the extra charges on my account. I found Bellhops through a targeted marketing type of ad (I think it popped up while researching a moving van) and usually I ignore such things, but since I hadn't secured movers yet, I clicked. I'm glad I did! I booked them for our move to Chicago a couple of weeks in advance. I got a call on Monday from Richard, the team leader, introducing himself and confirming. Then an email came yesterday with both movers' names, pictures, and some details like student organizations they each participated in. Richard and Jose showed up this morning ready to work--Jose was even early and started helping out before officially clocking in. The guys were hardworking and helpful and took direction well from my bossy father who had flown up to help with the big move. They were very grateful for the water and homemade Rice Krispie treats. My first time experience with bellhops was good. The moving team was timely, energetic and completed the job within the reserved 3 hour window. Akeem was great at leading the group. They put in a lot of effort despite the near 100 degree weather. Don't expect bells and whistles though. I found there to be little moving supplies in the truck and while they did a decent job of packing items up in the truck, some furniture items got dirty (plastic wrap came off and I am not sure everything that should've been covered in blankets was). Upon closer inspection my dining table was also chipped and dented in a few places during the move. Overall, I was happy to have movers making the experience a little easier and would recommend them, but not THE most skilled movers in town. read more

Their team took twice as long to move a 1-bedroom apartment (resulting in a doubling of the estimated price) and caused $1,200 damage to two elevators (the padded one meant for the move and an unpadded one they were told not to use). Although Building management reported the damage immediately, documented it with photos immediately, and charged us $1,200 immediately--Bellhops won't cover the damage. This 1-bedroom move ended up taking twice as long as Bellhops estimated and, as a result of the damage, cost me four times as much as Bellhops said it would. It is truly not worth your time or money to do business with this company. read more

We used Bellhops to move us from Philadelphia to Washington. Our crew in Philly showed up on time and successfully navigated down a very tight south Philly side street. They loaded everything up very quickly and made sure everything was wrapped and protected. Our driver got to DC ahead of us and we had a short wait for the DC movers to arrive, but they were also on time. They unloaded the truck in less than an hour - much faster than expected. Everyone was very personable, respectful and patient. We will need to move our items out of storage in a few months and will absolutely be calling on Bellhops again! read more

For the price, you can't beat it because you don't have to pay the movers distance. However, if you have expensive items, realize you get what you pay for in the end. A discount moving company with discount service. Unload team - exceptional. Load team - needed some work. Also, it's extremely frustrating if you have one team in one location and a different for the second half of move because if one team disassembles furniture, the unload team doesn't necessarily know how to reassemble. I communicated with the job adviser numerous times about the fact that we needed furniture wrapped and taken apart, but the moving team had no clue about it. read more

I booked the moving service for Sunday, September 15, 2019 on August 8, 2019. I received a confirmation email the following day, giving the company well over 30 days to make arrangements. I also received a confirmation email and call in the days leading up to my move to confirm the time (9am) and date. I purposely booked well in advance because I had absolutely no flexibility in my move date. You can understand why I was surprised to find only one Bellhop and the truck at my old address at 9am on Sunday. When I received the company's call to cancel the service, we were almost an hour into the scheduled move time, and because I had no flexibility to reschedule, we discussed that we would move forward with my help. I was happy to find that an additional Bellhop had arrived but my frustration and disappointment with the service only increased when it because clear that my boyfriend and I were going to do the majority of the work. Both Bellhops were playing on their phones and dilly-dallying in between moving my things. There were times where I was literally running to and from the truck while they were standing and looking at their phones. It was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I was also extremely disappointed that they had no idea what was in the truck. It also seemed like they had never done a move before. I found the plastic wrap for the mattress and box spring after they told me they didn't have any. They also only came with one box dolly, and it was almost unusable due to a completely flat tire. They also tried to put sharp-edge drawers on my couch when the cushions were removed - anyone would know that this creates a high risk of the fabric ripping. I'm also including an itemized list below of everything they moved vs. what my boyfriend and I moved at the old address and the new address. As you can see, in both scenarios, my boyfriend and I moved significantly more than half of the items. Importantly, the Bellhops did not load a single one of the 39 boxes onto the truck. My boyfriend and I also moved the couch at the new address - it is the largest and most awkward item to move.
