This little hidden gem that we found in Dorr did the trick! We were going to visit one of our family members and we needed to have a quick breakfast, but we didn't want any fast food. We looked on Yelp, of course, and found a Bell's colonia Kitchen! We were pleasantly surprised! The outside of the place makes you a little weary, but I promise you, it's very cute and quaint inside. The service was great. Nick was our server. He was very polite and just happy to serve us this morning. We had a few hiccups with our order. I ordered a veggie scramble with no cheese, but it came out as an omelette. Nick actually realized it was wrong before I even had to say anything. I kept the omelet because it was no big deal. My husband ordered a veggie omelette with no potatoes; we had to send that back because it came out with potatoes. Nick was happy to do that and very apologetic. Once we finally got our orders right, we dug in, and everything was delicious! The eggs were fresh. I bet they come from a local farmer. The bacon was crispy and perfect! You'd be surprised how many so-called breakfast joints can't get crispy bacon right. Bell's kitchen got the bacon just right and I was very happy. Bell's Colonial Kitchen is 16.7 miles from Clippers Café in Martin but they could be twinners. Hole in the wall, modest exteriors, careworn but scrupulously clean interiors. Crusty, friendly regulars & young, welcoming staff. Notably, the syrup bottle was not crusty- a chore often overlooked in breakfast joints. And scrambled eggs- I didn't see an egg farm within pitching distance of Bell's but they were fluffy, lightly salted and buttery. I just cannot replicate them at home. They are similar to Clippers Café but provided a new AM culinary experience. The French Toast was cinnamony (not a word- yet) with sweetly finished golden highlights & the right amount of crust. Thin, expertly seared sausage patties, flavorful but not blood-pressure inducing salty. The coffee was also same/different as the pours in the small diner in Martin. Not as bold, but very smooth. This time I had a double cheese burger and I had to leave a quick review because that burger was amazingly juicy and flavorful. I couldn't stop eating it and can't believe I finished it Next time I'll take half gone for another day, because it had to be a good half pound of meat on that thing! So you get that nice satisfying crunchy mouth feel and not that rubbery boring common run of the mill French fry experience! My brother bought us a meal from out of town because my mother had surgery--a nice gesture. I wanted wings. I wanted buffalo wings and blue cheese. Of course, the order was messed up--plain wings (not a normal thing). According to the person, when we called, she said she could not remember the order. So they don't have pencils or a system for taking orders, wow. Thanks for making a nice gesture into a drama. My mother, who just had surgery, was mad at my father for not getting the order right. I went after a meeting with a coworker today for a late lunch. The staff was chipper and helpful. The menu seemed like the traditional standard menu. Looked like and average mom and pop shop in a small town. It only got better from there. Our waitress was so nice, very friendly smile and positive atmosphere. I ordered the Classic Reuben with fries and my coworker ordered the French Dip also with fries. That was the best Reuben I ever had! And the Fries were amazing! I inhaled my food. The worst part about this place was having to pay for my 'food'. I ordered an overpriced, soggy sandwich that I could have easily made at home myself and actually enjoyed eating. My boyfriend ordered a chicken quesadilla with neon orange cheese that showed just how processed every bit of food there was. There is a difference between delicious junk food, and eating literal garbage. It was a slow day, and yet the service was below average. Neither of us finished our food. Driving through Dorr, MI you can't help but feel the charm of small town America. Where people know your name, and if not they welcome you like family. This is spirit typically found in the South. I can assure you this "Southern Hospitality" is not exclusive to those under the Mason-Dixon Line, it is alive and well as soon as you step foot in Colonial Kitchen. My parents and I visited today for breakfast, and I'm super happy with the whole experience. The food and the service was wonderful, I like how small and cozy the restaurant was. Our server was on top of it, there seemed to only be 2/3 servers in the place at the time and for that fact I was impressed. My coffee never made it to half way empty the whole meal and my pancakes were perfect. Food for three people came out to our table in about 10 minutes even though the place was packed!
