I absolutely love breakfast here. Lunch is to be desired but the omlettes and their sausage gravy is the stuff.

We also sampled a variety of drinks. I liked the "Wish I Was on an Island" best. Our group of 5 ordered several entrées: Walleye sandwich, Great Lakes Walleye, Farmhouse pizza, and turkey club. Our sides included asparagus (our favorite!) and fries, which were seasoned just right. All the food was excellent. We shared and sampled and enjoyed everything. My favorite was the walleye, and I would definitely order it again. The atmosphere is wonderful, with beautiful views of the lake. Although we dined inside on this visit outside dining is enjoyable as well. The music selection was perfect! We all commented on it and the volume was just right. Loud enough to be enjoyed but still conversation-friendly. Boatwerks is quickly becoming our favorite restaurant. Whether we are sitting at the bar for appetizers and drinks, or enjoying dinner we have never had a food or drink that we haven't loved. Food presentation is attractive. And service is always excellent, especially at the bar.

We had to go around the block multiple times before we found a space behind the parking lot behind the restaurant. When we got into the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night. There was a short waiting list that moved pretty quickly. The main reasons for going there was to try their James Beard award winning Trumpet burger. I also ordered an amber ale that was pretty good. It was good but coming from Chicago there are several burgers that I feel are better. Places like Au Chaval & Little Bad Wolf to name a few. My wife ordered a Mediterranean style pizza. Again coming from Chicago the pizza was very average. How can you compare this to Pequods or Lou Malnati? Hops draws a large crowd and really packs the people in. They have a good lively crowd w/a nice selection of food & beers. It was an enjoyable meal in a very crowd friendly. As someone with celiac disease, eating out can be stressful, but when I informed our server, he immediately reassured me that they take cross-contamination seriously and ensure a safe meal. While they do offer outdoor dining, we opted to sit inside, and the service and food were fantastic from start to finish. To drink, I started with the kiwi pineapple margarita--they offer multiple types of rims, and I went with sugar, which was delicious. The summer sangria also sounded amazing, but I stuck with the margarita since it was guaranteed gluten-free. For food, we shared the ricotta with gluten-free toast, and for my main, I had the Beyond Burger on a gluten-free bun with a side of chips that were confirmed to be safely gluten-free. Finding a place that is this accommodating, knowledgeable, and delicious is rare, and it made our trip so much better!

However, the reviews were good so we ventured in... and I'm glad we did as the inside is extremely inviting and the food was great! First of all - there's a kid's waiting area with snacks!! What an amazing idea! We sat quickly and ordered. I had the salmon entree - which was not the prettiest looking plate but wow, was it good! Cooked well and the vegetables that were steamed on the side were perfectly cooked also. Burgers looked good and everyone ate swiftly so I assume everyone's meals were delicious. Service was friendly and swift (but didn't rush us) and this spot even had clean bathrooms (which is a huge plus for a restaurant). Price is reasonable especially for the portion sizes. So, ignore the location and the look of the outside (they also have speakers playing horse sounds outside...) and head in for a delicious and friendly meal.

I mean, as good as advertised. Holy cow. One of our best meals in two trips to Michigan (Saugatuck…read moreand South Haven). All reservations were booked out for weeks when we had checked, but we showed up at opening and it sort of worked out. Let me explain.. A lot of other families had the same idea. Show up early, get in, get the kids fed early. It made for a line to check in at the host stand that looked concerning but it wasn't a crazy wait, ultimately. About 30 minutes. We still got what we wanted, a nice seat overlooking the water. One thing I'll say in that regard was there was a HUGE upfront rush, but then around 6:30 or so, the place had emptied out quite a bit. Might be useful knowledge if trying to time an entry here. ANYWAYS. The food. Phenomenal. So good. I stuck with standard fried chicken (ie not Nashville, not spicy) and it was amazing. Salty, well brined, flavorful. It even held up amazingly well cold out of the fridge the next day. Some of the best fried chicken I've had in years. The fries were insanely good as well. The greens (one of the side choices) were not my thing as they didn't have a lot of flavor. The only miss of the evening. My oldest enjoyed her burger, and my youngest thought the chicken was too spicy (read: peppery) but they've been uber picky lately so take that with a grain of salt (or pepper). Had a lovely cocktail here as well, called the Sunday Christian: Gin, Cocchi Americano, Bianco Vermouth, and orange bitters. I'm realizing I have failed you all but forgetting to mention the most glorious, buttery, flaky biscuit that comes with the fried chicken meal. It was a star of the show, and the only reason I'm just now mentioning it is that I ate it so quickly it disappeared into my memories. Wonderful place, and I'm sure we will go back next time in Saugatuck.

When my Food arrived I requested to have my fries remade since they were NOT HOT & had most likely been sitting under a light ( is my guess ) for a while. After 25 minutes fresh fries did arrive but as you might imagine now my sandwich was COLD.I asked my waitress ( who was lovely in every way!!!! ) to please send a manager over so I could express my frustration. The manager was apologetic & comped my food - but fun fact,I now had a cold sandwich with hot fries. Literally one was switched for the other. Although I appreciate the slight concern, it would have been nice to offer me an altogether HOT meal complete with everything HOT at the same time.Am I asking too much? I didn't get a meal that day- just some hot fries.....& actually the thought of this still annoys me. Please consider the entire meal & remember,I came to EAT not "negotiate " 1/2 of a HOT meal. Anyway, we got in closer to 6, no reservations on a Monday night and we were immediately seated. I ordered a Sauvignon blanc from France. In his usual fashion, my husband ordered a beer on draft that was out so he had to quickly find an alternate. I ordered the red snapper with za'atar spices, roasted carrots and risotto and my husband had the tortelloni and added salmon. I loved the meal. The fish was well seasoned and prepared to my liking. Flakey and not overdone. My husband, on the other hand, had said that his salmon was overcooked but did enjoy his pasta and ate almost all of his food. He left the thinner piece of salmon as it was dry due to being overcooked. Service was quick and to the point. Not very friendly but satisfactory as far as delivery was concerned. The place had some cool decor that made me think of a Mediterranean vibes. Where we were seated had some high ceiling but was concealed with some nice trellis and some fake vines around them which gave it a nicer touch than just high ceilings. Overall, we did have a good dining experience.
