Decided to try this place after the district softball games ended. Definitely your typical but fun bar layout as well as dining tables on the other side. Fairly open space and large and lots of room. Felt bad for our server because she was the only one until reinforcements came at. I think it was 5 o'clock for evening rush and there were a lot of extra helpers by that point so things were a little slow before then but understandably. The the servers were all at least friendly and accommodating. Food was all right. I got the nachos and it wasn't as appealing as the picture on the menu, the cut chicken was good. The salsa I will say was amazing and they were kind and getting me more upon request I think it might be willies or just another more fresh salsa, but the nachos were kind of lacking some layers and we're a little skim on the toppings, if you follow me, you know I get nachos everywhere and unfortunately, these were a little lacking but again the salsa really saved it all. Kids liked the chicken tenders and my wife's burger was good. The burgers are what they're more so known for I believe. Next time we're in the area we may venture and try another spot but not saying this wouldn't keep us from coming back but just exploring options. read more

My wife and I both got the burger swimming in beer cheese. The burger was juicy and the beer cheese very good. She had the regular fries and I had the steak fries, which were also very good. Our waitress was nice and helpful; it's a local dive bar but the food was worth the trip!! read more

Good honest food. This is a small town restaurant with yummy home style cooking. I picked up lunch for me and my coworkers, and got 3 delicious sandwiches for approximately $40 +tip. The portions were HUGE! We each had two meals out of each sandwich. I had the Dubliner and was pleasantly surprised that the corned beef wasn't too greasy. Everything was delicious! My coworkers enjoyed the Mississippi hot beef sandwich (very filling and great to eat on a cold day as a comfort food), and the Big Porker sandwich. Highly recommend this place if you are in Wayland and want to support a small business. The food is hearty and probably not the place to frequent if you are looking for a healthy or light alternative. I will be back to sample some of their yummy sounding dips. Enjoy! read more

This place is located on a nice corner in Wayland. The parking situation in the parking lot could have been a bit nicer but was sufficient. The lack of any snow removal on the sidewalk leading up to the door was a bit disappointing. The inside is split into two areas. One side has more of a restaurant feel while the other side gives you the bar feel. Both sections have a bar but one has more sit down tables while the other has more high tops. Overall it was some decent ambiance. The waitress was really nice and quick with any service needs. She was juggling a few tables and the bar. She did so with an appearance of ease. She was also super nice to bring out a order that we split on two separate plates. The food was good but we have had a better French Dip. The meat was a bit greasy for our taste. The bread was good. The tater tots were perfectly done! The locals seemed to like the place as there were several seated at the bar during our visit. They were all having a great conversation which included the bar tender at times. The place is worth a shot. The other couple we were there with tried the Rubin and said it was really good. Nice menu with a lot of food options. Would have given it 5 stars because my wife's burger was great, the french fries were phenominal but I got the "Sizzler" steak mainly because the advertise it as "Schaendorf Cattle Company" steaks! Sorry, not good advertising for Schaendorf because it was perfect medium the way I like but tough not tender like I was expecting, was tough but my bad, should have went with the waitress Billi W. suggested. Stop in here after sign papers on our new house and wasn't disappointed. Fast friendly service. The had 1/2 off appetizers, so we decided to try their homemade spinach and artichoke dip. We all loved it. They also had all you can eat perch dinner. Which wasn't over bread and tasted wonderful. Their shrimp tacos are also very taste. However their 8oz sirloin was over cooked. The spinach artichoke dip was good! My husband had the French dip with the Parmesan fries and both were great! My son had the chicken tenders and tots. The tenders where dry and the tots were good. We also had the sizzling chicken salad. The flavor of the chicken was good but the chicken was dry. I had the black and blue burger. If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault! I had the artichoke dip with tortilla chips. The dip came in a soup bowl. There was so much to this appetizer, I'm bringing some home! My husband had a burger and tater tots. The burger was huge! He's bringing half of it home and some of the tots as well! We were privileged to try the very best onion rings we've ever tasted. It's a good bar, it's not spectacular food. This isn't a destination for foodies. My 4 stars is strictly based on the "bar" aspect. They are friendly, the beer selection is good.. .they had dirty bastard on tap. The food was good bar food, nothing amazing, but it was a solid menu. I would give McDuff's 4 stars if it wasn't for three important things that are easily fixable: 1) Menu: the menu apparently will be updated soon. But, the current menu has old prices. That's a big "NO-NO". The correct prices should be written on the menu, or the waitstaff should inform the customers that the prices are wrong. I noticed the pricing discrepancies upon getting the bill, and was told that the menu prices are being updated. That is not "cool". It is very deceptive when an item is being charged at $2 more than listed on the menu. There was no offer by the waitress to stick by the listed menu prices. 2) Menu: too much is crammed onto a single-sided sheet. The print is too small. Couldn't read the fine print, even with reading glasses. The lighting in McDuff's is dim, adding to the problem. Menu should be 2-sided, with larger type, and better layout. 3) List of beers/ciders on tap was incomplete, and the beers were listed in very crammed abbreviated form. If you are not already familiar with the listed beer, you will have a hard time deciphering the abbreviations used. OK, now for the good aspects: 1) Food: excellent. We tried the chicken fajita and the Cajun Mac N Cheese. 2) Service: excellent This was a Tuesday night. The Sandhill Restaurant at Gun Lake casino had a half hour wait and was staying at 50% capacity due to covid. Sandbar was closed (didn't know they were closed on Tuesdays). Salvino's was packed and had people waiting to be seated. So, let's try downtown Wayland. McDuff's had plenty of seating, and was not crowded. If I were the owner of McDuff's, I'd be wondering "Why is Salvino's always full, and my place is so empty"? McDuff's could obtain far more success if it would: 1) Re-do the menu with larger font, etc. Add a few unique entree items related to Irish or Scottish heritage. (There really is no particular reason to name it McDuff's if you are not committing to an Irish/Scottish menu or atmosphere.) 2) Maybe offer pasties. These are common up north. But nobody has them in southern Michigan. Maybe corned beef and cabbage (even tho this is not really Irish, I know). Maybe smoked salmon items. Maybe shepherd's pie. 3) Make the on-tap beer list a prominent feature. 4) Hire enough servers to accommodate more customers. There was only one server when we were there. This would not be adequate for serving more customers. We had not been here for at least 2 years -- partly due to covid 19 of course. But my previous visit 2 or 3 yrs ago was a bust. We had out-of-town guests with us, and we were seated at a booth. The place was not busy. But, we waited for 20 minutes, and no server even acknowledged our presence. So, we left. Even though it wasn't busy, the service staff could not supply even minimal service. That left a sour taste in my mouth, and we avoided McDuff's after that experience. But this place has a lot going for it: location, parking, cook staff, menu, service. With a bit of effort, McDuff's would be a very busy place. read more

The food is ok over priced but ok, the service is horrible half the bar tenders act like your inconveniencing them when you order a beer. They do offer pull tabs and keno but make sure you pay attention to the amount you won because once they get the ticket or pull tab they will rip you off. So expect to have an empty glass in front of you and be thirsty for long periods of time and take photos of winning tickets because they will rip you off. read more

In the restaurants defense they were very busy. We came in about 5:40 on Friday evening. It took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive Ordered the McIrish. What could have been an excellent burger if it hadn't been overdone. Ordered medium rare, received very well done. Also ordered the sizzling chicken salad which I had ordered in the past with wonderful results. This one came with 4 small bites of chicken. In the past this was a full breast filet. Overall, I was fairly disappointed this visit. My previous visits were not on the weekend and were much better. This definitely seemed like more of a bar with food than a restaurant with a bar. Our whole experience there was just bland, probably because we didn't sit at the bar or order drinks. We tried to get waited on at McDuff's a couple of nights ago. There was nobody checking on new customers in the dining area for at least 6-9 minutes. The server only came back when 6 people walked thru the bar area to the dining area and the server went to them first. After about 10 minutes later without being recognized that we needed service we left. I know she saw us. This is the worst experience there but the servers are not doing the job they should. Our first restaurant experience after moving to Wayland. We will gladly be regulars! I got the food to go for my family and couldn't believe what I saw when I got home. Extremely generous portions. Great quality and outstanding flavor. And the best part: affordable and fast. 3 meals (one was split between 2 kids) and 2 appetizers for $42! And the portions are so large my wife and I have lunch tomorrow. And while I waited the staff was friendly and made sure I was comfortable. We'll be back!! read more

Took another couple here for their Friday night perch dinner. What a total disaster. First we were seated at a table that was all sticky. Asked the waiter to please clean it but he said they are all that way due to the strong cleaning solution they use??? When the dinners arrived the perch was way over cooked and hard as leather. The fish had no perch taste at all, What a disappointment . . What ever batter they used it was hard as a rock. We definitely will NOT return. I've been here only twice since, both were for their half-off pizza deal on Mondays (buy a beverage and get half off pizzas!). The service the first time was lovely, but the second time it was just okay. The waitress almost dropped the hot pizza on me, and after that she became inattentive. Note: if your customers are drawing/coloring their pizza boxes, they are probably ready for the check! As a plus, there are some nice pool tables to play on while you wait, as well as Keno.
