She thoroughly assessed my hair, used color swatches, explained what she saw. Because the evening program has limited service hours and the students are still developing their knowledge, experience, and speed, she was honest that my particular color correction would be better handled by an experienced professional rather than risk compromising the integrity of my hair. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism. I still moved forward with getting a haircut, and despite being short-staffed, Marleen was extremely attentive. She supervised and taught throughout the cut, stepped in when needed, and came back after my hair was dried and styled for a final quality check. A couple weeks ago, I saw students holding up sign saying that they needed customers. I was in between beauty salons so I figured they needed students I needed my hair done. I made an appointment. I got Claudia the student and Miss Rosa, the instructor. I believe Miss Rosa was very professional knowledgeable and used every opportunity she could as a teaching mechanism for her students. Claudia was kind patient and she really wanted to do a good job. Sometimes she had a little anxiety moments but at the end of the day they did a magnificent job. I gave them complete freedom. I told them my problem point was my gray hair and I had a very demanding job so I I couldn't get to the Salons as much as I knew I should. I wanted something low maintenance to hide my grays and that was where my two key points whatever color whatever other ideas they had I gave them free will to do. I also got partial highlights some low lights. I got toner and I got a haircut and style. Everything was priced beautifully especially in this economy. Please take cash tips for the students. I would highly recommend this place. I would go back again. Everybody is nice. The front desk is nice as well parking is a bit of an issue so I did get dropped off. If you can get dropped off that would be ideal. If not, go with enough time to find parking, that's the only downside to this I think all the students they want to learn and want to do a good job so if you could give them a chance, it would be great because we all learn we didn't become experts overnight. I think they did a fabulous job on my hair. I would definitely go again and I would highly recommend to anybody. I truly love this place -- the prices are unbeatable, and every student who has worked on my hair has done an amazing job. I've always left feeling satisfied and well taken care of, which is why it pains me to leave a 1-star review. Unfortunately, the parking situation is consistently frustrating and, honestly, unacceptable at this point. Students regularly double-park, blocking in paying clients even when there are clearly open spaces available. Today was especially upsetting -- I was blocked in and had to track down the student, who didn't even come out until I called out to her car. After she moved, another student immediately pulled up to double-park again. Thankfully, they let me out, but then just returned to block someone else in. It's incredibly disappointing that after all these years, this ongoing parking issue hasn't been addressed. It creates unnecessary stress for customers who are here to relax and support the students. To start she rub washed my hair, instead of a real wash in which you kind of scratch the scalp, second she didn't dry my hair before applying leave in conditioner because the were out of heat protectant, then she immediately flat ironed my WET hair, burning my scalp with each swipe of the flat ironed, I repeatedly ask her to stop but she continued. She stated that's what the instructor told her to do. Now my scalp is sore and my hair is frizzy not straight, And not to mention she took 3 hrs. For a Flat Iron. I recently graduated from the Esthetics 103 program at Bellus Academy in Chula Vista. Overall, I had a really positive experience! I loved the program and especially appreciated my amazing instructors Ms. Lilian, Ms. Leah, and Ms. Tiffany. They were all incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and made learning enjoyable. That said, I did run into ongoing issues with student services, specifically with Ms. Danielle. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with her throughout the program. Emails would often go unanswered or were responded to weeks later, and she was rarely available in her office. When I did manage to speak with her, the conversations felt rushed, and at times, she seemed frustrated or uninterested in helping even though it's part of her role. I understand she's been in her position for over 12 years, but I believe the workload might be too much for one person given how many students attend and enroll each month. Some additional support in that department would really benefit both the staff and students. Aside from that, everyone else was great! The AM front desk staff were always friendly and helpful, and financial aid was great to work with and very informative. Despite that one area of concern, I'm thankful for my time at Bellus and the education I received. I'd still recommend the program to others. read more

I was a student at Bellus Academy in Chula Vista and completed the Advanced Esthetician program. My experience during the first part of the program wasn't the best but everything changed once I entered the advanced portion with the PM educator, Ms. Laura. The difference was incredible. I genuinely feel like I learned more in those three months of Advanced 103 than I did in the previous six months combined. She has an amazing ability to explain concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand, and she truly wants every student to succeed. What stood out to me most was her patience. No matter how many questions I asked, she always took the time to make sure everyone understood before moving on. She created a supportive learning environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and building confidence. She is also one of the most organized teachers I've ever had. I am new to town and I always like to visit beauty schools to help the new students practice in me. However I've never experienced anything like this. The poor girl who cut my hair had obviously never cut hair on a real person. Ever. I assumed there would be a supervisor or someone to guide her with the process. This location is honestly a joke. Like, you can tell from the second you try to park. There are not enough parking spots, and there's no real plan to fix it. Just trying to show up to school is a whole nightmare by itself. And good luck getting your kit. We see huge deliveries come in, then the stuff just disappears. Nobody gives us what we paid for. They made Travis a "lead," whatever that's supposed to mean, but he doesn't make sure we get anything. He doesn't even enforce dress code, and half the time he doesn't look professional himself. He's literally outside smoking with students on break. Pretty sure educators aren't supposed to be doing that?? Yvonne barely leaves her office and honestly acts like she couldn't care less if we ever get our supplies. The building itself is falling apart too, and no one seems to care at all. I know Bellus has other locations and people say they're better, but honestly? I doubt it. Save yourself the headache and just don't come here. read more

She was cautious about the length, blending and made sure I was comfortable during my service, even bringing me water. She has exceptional attention to detail. You arrive at your class and stand outside until 9:30 waiting for someone to unlock the classroom door. Once inside the class , a sub greets you and lets you know that they don't have any information on when or if your teacher will be in. You don't get a seat in the class because there are not enough chairs or tables, so you go look for a folding chair or stand among the roaches. There are 8 open treatment tables so if you don't get your name on the sign up sheet, you're out of luck and must do book work. Except, no one has told you what section we are working on. You ask the sub if the teacher has any notes or a calendar that states what section we are on, and sub doesn't know. You ask a classmate and they don't know so they continue watching YouTube or movies on their phone, which you don't blame them because what else are we supposed to do? Lunch comes and the back door is locked and chained up, so you have to walk around the entire campus to get to your car, and you find yourself blocked in so you sit at a broken outdoor table and wait for lunch to be over. You get back to class and the teacher is still not there so you continue to help with laundry and watch microdermabrasion demo videos on YouTube until 3:30. Then you wait in your car until you're no longer blocked in so you can leave and do it all again tomorrow. read more
