Yesterday, I got my hair done by Lesley. I had an all over color, but 75% of my hair was blonde and the other 25% is my virgin hair, dark brown. So we had to do color correction. The finish product is a toffee brown color. It was a process, took about 4 hours. Lesley was a doll though! She was patient and she's very smart. She took her time on my blow out and I practically fell asleep in the chair. We weren't able to get to my haircut that I needed that night. The reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because this is a college; I have been cancelled on a few times before, which causes inconveniences and disappointment. Especially when you really wanted to get that haircut or get that color. This location itself has been pretty great to me the times I have came in. I'm usually very sensitive about my eyes and I flinch very easily, but Lindsey was absolutely amazing! She was very kind and careful and asked me if I was okay after every step. She also told me what she was going to do before she did so I could expect her movements, which minimized my flinching. First thing, upon walking into the building it smelled absolutely horrible! It smelled like something died. It was extremely strong in the waiting area. It smelled as if something has died and hasn't been discovered yet. Secondly, it's clear that the only campus that gets taken care of is the campus in Poway. The Esthetician rooms look NOTHING of how it does in Poway. The beds have these awful looking sheets. The sheets aren't in conjunction with each other. It looks like they just picked up a bunch of randoms from the goodwill. Also to add, there are NO separated rooms like in Poway. The beds are lined up next to each other; it looks like more of an old school hospital setup than an Esthetician setup. I've visited the campus in Chula Vista, and the students were complaining about never having products and questions of where their tuition is truly going. I've visited the campus in Poway for a facial which was wonderful. The building looks amazing, the rooms are amazing. The campus in El Cajon and Chula Vista are a far cry from Poway. It's extremely disappointing. You'd think with all of the ads everywhere about Bellus that all campuses would be top notch or at least decent, but it seems to be a huge front. Hopefully the other two campuses get the same love and attention that Poway does. read more

Both did a great job, they were fun and friendly, and Miriam seemed very knowledgeable about hair as well. I have been to Bellus Academy in El Cajon many times within the last 2 years. I have recently seen a change in management. This change is actually quite lovely. A new director I believe Luterah has been very kind when I have asked her a few questions regarding my hair color. I never met the other director. The students have been happier and have been offering the specials of the month and that is new to me. I like the new curriculum, new teacher on the floor more hands on with students on deck. The new educator I heard tell the student stylist next to mine nicely to please re wash the clients hair next to me because she had color still in her hair. That is great interest in your student as well as in the customer. I am happy to continue to go to this school when my stylist is not available. I came into Bellus to get my hair done for a wedding I was going to--I wanted to look put together and I knew my hair skills were pretty subpar. From the start, Riane was super friendly and proffesional. She was constantly checking to see if I was comfortable and to make sure she wasnt causing any pain as she was working with my hair, which is in pretty bad shape btw. I showed her a reference photo but also gave her creative freedom. She worked quickly but with care so i was SUPER impressed with how my hair turned out! I understand that it is a school but the students dont know what to do. I spend almost 6 hours in that place and the result very bad. I paid 95$!!!!! So I am a crazy person with Pink hair, and getting my naturally dark hair light enough to get the pink to show has either been expensive or difficult with some disastrous accidents to boot Finding out that I could go to Bellus Academy, just to get my roots bleached was a revelation! Sadly Bellus academy doesn't do crazy colors, like purple or pink, they seem to want to make their clients look like responsible adults, but they do an excellent job bleaching my roots, that sets me up perfectly to add my crazy color later. Although the setting itself isn't "salon chic" the teachers and students were awesome and I felt very well taken care of. I will be back often, since black roots with pink hair just in't a good look on me. I also plan on taking advantage on some of the other services they offer, in the future read more
