We have eaten here two times and both times I ordered fish and chips. This place looks like a diner on the inside and seems to be quite a bit of seating for the size Every waitress we have had here has been very friendly and it's extremely casual despite the fancy name. The only reason for four instead of five stars is the fact that although it is on the menu you cannot order clams unless it is Friday. The fish and chips here are very good and their coleslaw is delicious! If you like fish I highly recommend the fish and chips. They also have hand cut fries which to me is a huge plus! My wife and I brought her 95 year old aunt for her birthday. We normally like it here, but during this trip something happened that's never happened to us before anywhere. It really hit a sore spot. But before I get to that, I'll say the food: crepes, eggs, sausage was good as usual, and our server was excellent, she got a very good tip. We had an old $10 gift certificate that we've been forgetting to use for years. Our server told us the owner said she would only honor it for $5 because the owner didn't recognize the signature. I asked if they thought it was fake and she said no. In all our years none of us have been anywhere where they choose not to honor what they said was their own gift certificate. I asked to speak to the owner, but couldn't because she was interviewing a job candidate. I was shocked and very disappointed. It seemed to me the owner just decided to take $5 from us. I wasn't sure what to expect of Belmont Hall & Restaurant, but it was my choice of where I wanted brunch or lunch on my birthday. We were going to be in the Manchester area, so I was using Yelp to look up places to go. The parking lot is off to the side, not many spaces. There is also street parking. Upon entering, the banquet/function hall is on the left. The sign as you enter lets patrons seat themselves. There is a small bar, booths & tables along the center for large parties. We were greeted by a super kind & funny waitress, Carmel. She knew all of the regulars that were coming & going. When placing our order for appetizers & our main entrée, she was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the pork pie. The food was okay, lots of "comfort food" options. The potato skins as an appetizer was super yummy! The pork pie was okay; I think that I filled up on the appetizer & the side salad that came with the meal. My fiancé had a seafood platter which was shockingly very full & better than your average, typical seafood restaurant. They bill was considerably fair even though we had placed an order for an appetizer, (2) entrees & (2) Bloody Mary's. Been coming here for 30 years since I was a kid. Have brought my children here a dozen times a year as they grew up. This morning was the last time I will patronize this place ever again. It doesn't feel safe any longer as there were 4 separate tables of disgusting junkies. Track marks, nasty scabs covering their body, and the smell. What once was a place where older folks and families came to dine has now become a Mecca for addicts. This obviously is a byproduct of operating a business in the City of Manchester, but they can take a proactive approach and not serve these people. The staff has all changed over and where they were always recognizable because they had little turnover, they're all now new and inexperienced. The food has also gone downhill. We've been going to the Belmont for 10+ years. Generally, the food and service has been good, but things have changed, like so many places I guess. We have found the staff to be unfriendly and cold. and we sometimes sit there for 10-15 minutes before anyone acknowledges us. Given the restaurant choices we have in Manchester, it's not likely we'll ever go back. Management should train their staff to be friendly and courteous, and if they are very busy, simply acknowledging customers can go a long way. read more

Where do I start? My friend and I had lunch today at Belmont Hall. We have been here to eat about five times and have had some incredibly good meals and a couple of not so hot ones. Today's experience takes Belmont Hall off of our list. I ordered the meatloaf, which according to the waitress was the best around, and two sides, the soup and salad. My friend ordered scrambled eggs over corned beef hash, with potatoes and grilled english. My salad and soup were both fine. I luckily asked for the gravy to be served separately. The entree arrived and looked horrible. The meatloaf had been sliced and put on the grill. As it turned out, this was done because it was removed from the oven very underdone. It was still pink in the one piece I began eating. It was very pink and without flavor. The gravy was in a monkey dish in a congealed mess with lumps. Also nearly inedible. The waitress finally came back to ask if we wanted anything else and noticed my untouched food. I told her it was nearly raw and inedible. I asked her to take it off the check and that I would be happy to pay for the soup and salad (which came with the $9.99 meal). My friend was very unhappy with his food as well. The scrambled eggs were not scrambled, but cut into strips and laid across the hash. Very odd looking and uncooked on one side of the strips as if they were not turned. We actually spoke to the owner/manager who happened to be sitting in a table near us. She did offer to cook something else, but we declined. The topper was the receipt of the check. They removed the $9.99 meatloaf and actually charged us $8.28 ($3.29 and $4.99) for the free sides that came with the meal. I found that to be incredible. The Belmont Hall & Restaurant has been open for over 74 years and offers good honest food and good portions at reasonable prices. Breakfast is served all day. Lunch and dinner offerings include appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, steak, chicken, pork, seafood, pasta, kids menu, and homemade desserts. Upon arriving for here lunch, my friend and I saw a lot of older diners already happily seated. The food has to be pretty good with good prices! More like a coffee shop atmosphere, you seat yourself at any of the tables, booths, or lunch counter in the long dining area. After we seated ourselves in a booth, the hostess took our drink order for Diet Coke ($1.79 with free refills). The place was busy, so it took a while for our server to take our order. Service was good and efficient for the rest of the meal. My friend had the Salmon Pie ($7.99) with rice pilaf and green beans. For $1.99 more, he ordered an extra slice of Salmon Pie, which I sampled. The Salmon Pie had a flaky crust stuffed with fluffy salmon "bisquik-like" bake filling and topped with gravy. I liked it. However, the rice pilaf was typical and the green beans were from a can. I had the Chicken Cacciatore ($8.99) over spaghetti with a garden salad. The salad had iceburg lettuce, tomato, onion, radish, and green pepper with a side of dressing. Bring your appetite because the Chicken Cacciatore served in a large bowl was a generous portion of boneless chicken pieces peppers, mushrooms, & onions in a sweet chunky tomato sauce served over lots of thin spaghetti cooked al dente. I'd order this again!! For dessert, I had the homemade Lemon Meringue Pie ($2.99-got it for FREE with Internet coupon) topped with whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate and strawberry sauces. Very sweet and refreshing. The restaurant is open 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Sundays through Thursdays) and 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Fridays & Saturdays). read more

I love Belmont Hall! The crepes are really good, and they have many flavors to choose from! I usually pick the banana or Nutella crepe. You can combine flavors though, which makes the crepe even more awesome! The people are really nice here, and it is a great place to eat out with family and friends. I've been eating at this restaurant for over a year now never had an issue with the food or the help. I ordered take out on Sunday and the food was so bad, the toast and bagel wasn't cooked at all, the hash browns were not cooked completely either. I called up and talked to the manager in charge and she told me to call and talk to the owner Kathy the following day. I called and the owner was very rude and basically calling me a lier saying that I should of brought the food back I didn't know this cause I definitely would of but the manager didn't know that either. they hired a lot of new people but they don't know what they are doing. Had eggs benny here and was not impressed. Soggy muffins, hollandaise was gross. Pan fries were good, crepe was good... waited almost an hour for it. Service sucked. Did not get any of our orders right... waitress had to go back to the kitchen and have them remake two things. Kitchen forgot to make one of our orders. Nobody cleaned their plate. Kept having to flag waitress down to refill drinks. Billed for forgotten order. Told waitress. Still wrong when she gave us corrected bill but at that point we just wanted out. I have been going to Belmont Hall for years. My family have used the function hall for many gatherings. The food is usually excellent, however I was disappointed in my last visit. I ordered the fried sea scallops and was served bay scallops. I've been eating sea scallops for fifty years and can tell the difference. The manager said "I will prove to you that they're sea scallops" and brought an unopened bag of sea scallops to the table. She continued to argue with me.
