How has birch been around for years and I haven't been here? Everything was 100%. Everyone was nice, the food was great. We couldn't pick what we liked the most. Front runner for places to revisit when I'm back in the area. A tad pricey, but worth it. Venue - Fun combination of classy/classic furniture with high wood ceilings and dark and/or earthy tones for a welcoming, calming place that feels somehow classy without being too pretentious. Staff - Of the four people over two days, everyone was very pleasant and helpful...even with me probably talking too much while sitting at the bar. The bartenders were both particularly helpful with picking both drinks and kitchen items. Food - Primarily a tapas place, but I filled up rather quickly given there was no one to share with on my solo trip. The menu changes quite a bit, so the things I snapped pictures of likely aren't available, but were all delicious. The braised lamb, with seared butternut squash, polenta, pomegranate and dill was epically good. Legitimately "lick your plate" good. The General Tso's Cauliflower was also a great app. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich on a bao bun was great also, though I failed to get a picture of that. Cocktails - Tried three different cocktails while there also. They do a good job of blending and mixing flavors to make delicious cocktails. If you don't have time for dinner, maybe at least stop by for a cocktail and an app or two. Other Comments - The private room for up to 10 that you can book by the end of the bar has a really cool design. Combine that with their menu and I think you'll be incredibly happy with the choice. We made a reservation for date night, and I'm so glad we did. The place is small, but beautiful. The little lamps on the tables and across the bar add a beautiful touch to the atmosphere. Our server was very nice and efficient. The restaurant itself is tapas style, so we ordered multiple small plates. Octopus nuggets, beet salad, Dunks mushroom flatbread, Nashville hot chicken bao. The octopus nuggets and hot chicken were our favorites, but everything was very good. I highly recommend, but make a reservation, because the place is small and last night it was fully packed. read more

The service was friendly and attentive, he was also informative. We liked the interior, clean and slightly eclectic. They have a private room for larger parties. We've been there twice now and were disappointed both times. The first was just the two of us and the place was empty at opening... we sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The drinks were good but the staff was more interested in each other than us. We tried to order food.. eventually got menus but when the drinks were emptied and they still didn't acknowledge that we were there and waiting to order food.. we dropped cash and left to go elsewhere for better service. The second time we went with another couple and made a reservation. We had all had a cocktail and then wine and we were done our second bottle of wine and they still somehow didn't get all the food to the table... deep breaths. The tapas style came out of the kitchen 1 or 2 dishes at a time with about 15minutes in between... We all left hungry and went for food elsewhere again. The service is near non existent. The waiter made it clear we were some sort of filthy animals for suggesting that most bars have cranberry juice. The food was excellent.. what we had of it. read more

Life changing tapas and drinks! I started with a mint julep (classic, delicious and reasonably priced? And my boyfriend got a Moscow mule. I am super picky about my mules, but when I tried his I was super impressed. Our waiter was helpful at guiding us through the menu and making sure we got good sized portions. The dishes vary from small snack size to full entrees but are listed either under appetizers or tapas. We started with the bread, which came warm with pickled carrots, then shared the chicken kimchi katsu (his favorite), mushroom gnocchi and roasted carrots with a yogurt sauce (my favorite!) Since we were visiting the area, the waiter gave us great recommendations for where to go after dinner for drinks. We were lucky enough to rent out the whole restaurant for a private engagement party. It could not have been better! The entire Birch on Elm team went above and beyond to make sure it was special. From the champagne toast to the creative cocktails, the amazing service to the thoughtful plates for some finicky eaters - we were delighted every minute. But, the true star of the night was the food. Oh my god! Our guests are still talking about it. Mouth watering, creative, and perfectly done. The leftovers didn't stand a chance. Didn't try any of the drinks but the cocktail menu did look quite promising: mint julep, whisky sour, old fashioned just to name a few. Got the Pork Belly eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was amazing. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and just fell apart when cut in. The home fries were fantastic. Superbly seasoned, crispy and crunchy. My partner and I came here on a Thursday night to have an intimate evening together and enjoy something new that neither her nor I have experienced before. I myself and her have been to Tapas style dinery before, but never this specific place. Let me start of by saying the server Dan was absolutely fabulous! I should've taken pictures of the food, but I was way to enthralled in the amazing experience my palette experienced to even think about that. We ordered the brussel sprouts, Fig preserves dish on sourdough, and octopus plate(not the nuggets). Omg!! Every bite we took was absolutely amazing. The flavors and combinations of seasonings and the way everything was cooked and plated to perfection was beyond what I expected. The Brussel sprouts were sweet, a bit toasted and made music in my mouth. The fig preserves with prosciutto and sourdough bread was beautifully plated and every bite of figs, bread, greens, prosciutto and cheese blended perfectly together. And last but not least The octopus melted in my mouth that even if I wasn't going to be taken home that evening for a dance of ecstasy ... this plate brought an orgasmic feeling already to my senses so I was quite alright with that. Soft, melted in my mouth and Cooked to the tee. For drinks my partner had the wheat beer (forget the name), and I had a recommended fall tiki drink that had a fusion of ginger and other blends. Carefully observing the bartender as he made other folks drinks, and as I tasted mine.... he rocks the bar completely. My better half and I were returning from an engagement photo session in Epsom, NH and stopped at The Birch on Elm for brunch on the return trip to Bean town. We ordered three tapas dishes: the shrimp and grits, the bao buns, and the duck congee. Of the three the duck confit congee was hands down the winner! This was hands down my favorite weekend brunch spot in Manchvegas when I lived there! Seriously. When it came to my brunch preferences, TBOE checked off a slew of boxes. Chef Provencher's menu was on the modern side and changed every few months as it was comprised of seasonally inspired dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients. And there was something for everyone too! They usually offered several familiar items such as chicken and waffles or avocado toast but there were also options for adventurous foodies such as some interesting tacos or octopus bites! Speaking of which, I implore readers to base judgements on how something tastes rather than what it is. ___Best of What I've Tried___ -Avocado toast (Roasted tomato hummus, parsley pesto, toasted almonds, house sourdough): As a millennial, I've learned to love avocado toast. However, I tend to scoff at the idea of paying real money for someone else to make this for me. TBOE did a good enough job where I didn't really mind. Interesting flavors for sure. The homemade bread was a nice touch. -Crab cakes benedict (english muffin, roasted corn, swiss chard, pickled swiss chard stems, five-minute egg): Loved the crab cakes and the roasted corn. Pickled swiss chard was also a nice touch of brightness. This place also made some of the best mixed drinks I've had in NH! They were pretty creative and exceptionally made. My favorite was the Cardstock Paper Plane (bourbon, cantaloupe aperol, cardamaro, lemon, honey) but they also make some awesome-as-hell pineapple drinks. I honestly used these to pretend that it wasn't snowing outside and I was in a warmer area. After a few visits, I trusted the bartender (Tiffany?) enough to let her make me whatever the hell she wanted. That's pretty rare for me. If you can't decide what drink to order and she is working the bar, go ahead and roll the dice with bartender's choice. Ambiance was a bit hipster, modern, clean, and classy. Couches added to the relaxing atmosphere and I needed that on weekends. They also played some decent music (think it was Sugar Rey and Rebelution on my first visit). Service was cool. Think my server was Michelle and she was real chill. Same with tiffany. ___Why I'm Withholding One Star___ -Some over their items were interesting and adventurous, but I didn't think really worked out. -Poutine was salty, even for poutine. Think I'd love it if drunk. -Need to teach bartenders the recipe before the menu is released. Warning: on Sundays they have brunch all day (and not much else!) Not that it was a bad thing. We were in Manchester for the night and decided to try this place for a light dinner. We got the octopus, veggie hash, and pork belly reuben. Solid dishes, but nothing special. The ambiance is charming, the plates kind of look like the china you might find in your New England grandmother's kitchen. I appreciated that the bartender was able to make my fall cocktail without egg. Maybe I'm just used to all the good food options in Camberville/Boston, but I just thought Birch on Elm was "A-OK"- nothing to write home about.
