The office is beautiful with its own dedicated parking lot. The receptionists are nice and helpful and they won't upsell you. In fact, when I qualified for new frames and lens, I was informed about which glasses were on sale! Nice customer-centered service, Belmont Hts. Optometry! Dr. Sao, the optometrist, is very sweet and doesn't recommend a lot of other unnecessary tests that cost more, unlike my former optometrist! The only downside is that their eyeglass selection is limited, but decent. Yet once I took a pair of vintage frames and they were able to add my prescription lens to these--yay! Oh, and they give you a complimentary lens cleaner and cloth with each pair of glasses. Kinda reminds me of the free toy you'd get as a kid after visiting a dentist. read more

It was the first time where a doctor actually listened and was so informative on each test performed! It was also th first time I felt like the prescription was spot on! The eye exam was fine. As far as purchasing glasses from them, I was told I would get 20% off lenses because I had an existing pair frames that I wanted to use. When I brought them in the doctor refused to use them saying that my prescription had changed just enough that they didn't think they'd work. That's a lie. When I had the exam I distinctly remember her telling me that my prescription had barely changed. FYI, they don't accept Medi-Cal. read more

Since this office is less than a mile from my home, I decided to give it a try. I've seen the same eye doctor in Lakewood for years, but didn't wanna drive across town, so I made an appt. at Belmont Heights Optometry. Everyone was polite, but once I sat down with the doctor, she told me that my copay was going to be $20 (eye exam) + $60 (contact lens exam), so $80 in total. I remember always paying around $50 ($20 eye exam + $31 contact exam) at my other eye doctor. I was surprised, so I questioned the copay. The doctor told me that was my copay decided by my insurance and that amount would be the same no matter where I went. Well, she lied!!! I left, called my former optometrist, made an appointment for three days later, and after my eye appointment, payed my REAL copayment of $51! It really bothers me to think this doctor was completely dishonest with me. No thanks! I'll drive across town any day if it means honest service! read more

Dr. Sao is so pleasant, professional and thorough. I felt my exam was one of the most comprehensive I've ever had. I especially appreciate the time she took to answer questions and explain all the tests she was doing. This is an excellent $100 exam. Since it is in the neighborhood, I'll definitely be going back here for my future eyecare needs (but maybe not all my frames). I also think they have a pretty decent selection of Frames. They need more designers, but I guess they are just starting out. They even have a handful from LA Eyeworks, which is really the creme de la creme of fashionable frames here in LA (as far as I'm concerned). I was extremely overdue for an eye exam and was dubious when I realized that my former optometrist Dr. Gary Hagen had sold his business. I ADORED Gary and Rubin (his partner) who ran the business for, I believe, over 18 years with a very loyal customer following. Well, Gary couldn't have sold his business to someone more delightful than Dr. Sinavy Sao. He would be pleased to know his successor also runs an equally top-notch business. Dr. Sao is a professional who is extremely competent and kind. It's rare to find that all in one eye doc. CLINICAL STRENGTHS: Dr. Sao really knows her stuff. She continues to keeps her clinical skills current by helping out a ophthamologist colleague, where she is exposed and working on cases that require expertise to diagnose. FYI - Dr. Sao's clinical expertise is dry eyes, so if you suffer from that, this doc is for you! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Dr. Sao is thorough, and more importantly, she cares. She will take her time with your eye examination and answer any questions that you may have. Very authentically nice. Rosa, the receptionist/office assistant, is also a gem. Great people skills. I started coming here a while back because I needed lenses for my vintage glasses. I just got a new pair of glasses here and while it cost quite a bit, I am very happy with the quality. This place makes the best lenses- they cut them on the premises and do excellent work. I can see great AND look great all at once. And just found out today, they give free refills on the spray cleaner they have which works very well I might add. read more

Based on the reviews we read on Yelp, my husband and I visited Belmont Heights Optometry for eye exams, new glasses and .... a shock. Let me start by saying that the office is lovely, well appointed and very polished/professional. Dr. Sinavy Sao was wonderfully attentive, very knowledgeable and very compassionate. She explained the many steps of the exams and what she was measuring/observing. Rosa helped me select what turned out to be the coolest glasses ... EVER. Picked them up today and not only was my light prescription just right, but I could read addresses on the curbs with no effort at all (used to strain to look for addresses, read street signs etc while driving.). My new glasses fit like a charm when I put them on for the first time. Before my husband had his exam, we thought that he would need a Lasik tuneup and/or new glasses because it has been 13 years since the procedure. Instead, we got a very unpleasant surprise....a CATARACT! Michael is too young for cataracts, that can't be......turns out that the impact from an accident last Fall seems to have done the damage. Dr. Sao was very compassionate when she explained her findings and her recommendations for treatment. She referred us to a fantastic Ophthalmologist for treatment. Just an update since Dr Hagen is no longer here. He retired so there is a new doc in the house. I am already in love with all the staff at Belmont Heights Optometry. As I mentioned in my previous post/review, they saved my vision and I am forever grateful for this place. Dr Sao now runs the show along with her fabulous receptionist (its really bugging me that I can't remember her name) and they are amazing. After updating her with what happened at my last visit with Dr Hagen, she sincerely understood how blind I am and took an extra step to check out my scalera buckle placed in my eye at surgery and answer all of my questions. Dr. Hagen is an awesome optometrist. His office is so stylish and comfortable, and he is so reasonable and professional. He cuts his own lenses rather than outsourcing, and so he really knows his stuff and has some sweet equipment. Ruben has the best style, so all the frames are very cool. My insurance is no longer accepted here, but I'm happy to pay for the excellent care and products. An experience in his office is extremely pleasant. However, do be warned that in an exam he dilates your pupils, making you so light sensitive afterwards that you're incapacitated for several hours. read more

I love this place! Dr. Sao is incredibly patient and thorough with her exams and will answer any questions you have. I even asked her random questions that my father's ophthalmologist was vague about, and she had no qualms about spending time to explain things to me that weren't even related to my exam. I found this place randomly while driving around in my neighborhood, saw the attractive building and sparkle of the eyeglasses and decided to drop in and check out the selection. I needed a new pair of glasses anyways...apparently one should never fall sleep with your glasses on....I woke up and my Oliver Peoples were snapped in two. The space is so nice and calming and selection of glasses seems very handselected....it's very boutique like. Ruben is so nice and helpful in trying to help you find the right pair of glasses. I had a hard time deciding between Prada, Gucci and O &X New York glasses. They also have Ray Ban, Joop!, Armani, Swavorski Crystal, LA Eyeworks and many other brands as well. They also have sunglasses. I was so happy with Ruben's helpfulness I made an exam appointment with Dr. Gary Hagen, as I was long over due for a check-up. When the big day came, I was treated like I was the only person in the office. Which you are. As Dr. Hagen explains it, he likes to focus on the quality of the patient experience over the cattle moving of patients. So there are rarely more than 1-2 patients in at a time. He performs a very thorough exam and uses the most accurate and latest equipment. He really looks into every nook and cranny of your eye and makes it a point to inform you what he's doing and why it's so important, especially when it comes to ocular diseases such as glaucoma. It was simply a pleasant experience, even when the dilating drops leave you unable to see anything close up for 3 hours. Texting is like, impossible. :p I will be coming back to him as long as I live in Long Beach. They take vision insurance....which is good. There are some really really upscale boutiques I've found that just don't take it. Dr. Hagen also can custom make lenses, which seemed unusual but really great. He knows his optical skills well! It's staffed by only Dr. Hagen and Ruben, so you feel more comfortable knowing the staff will be stable and know who you are whenever you come in. Experience was fine. I ordered contact lenses here but they are only open during work hours (not earlier or later) so for working professionals, it's hard to get appointments or pick up prescriptions. They are open a few hours on Saturday, but if you happen to be busy on Saturday, then good luck to you. I guess their primary customer base is stay at home people.
