Due to a lung condition, I had to evacuate my house in YLP during this Creek fire. Mike worked with me over the phone to buy deer food to be put aside and picked up by a friend who is feeding the deer for me while I'm gone. He was doing this as he was taping up the doors and windows due to the dangerous smoke levels. I really don't know what more anyone could ask for. They have my unconditional loyalty. Please ignore whatever unfavorable reviews you see and chalk it up to those people having the problem, not Mountain Feed & Nursery. They could not be more stellar.

My eyes water the entire time in there and I hold my breath as much as possible while shopping, which I'll likely do less of now because I legitimately cannot handle it. This is not "one cage needs to be cleaned" bad it's like "not a single cage has been cleaned for months" bad. It did not used to be so horrendous and there's the same amount of small animals as before, so it's a cleaning issue. On the bright side, if you're looking for a groomer Rosa is top notch! 5/5 for her. I won't likely shop here until it gets cleaned but I'll continue to take my dogs here for grooming.

They only had alfalfa available since straw has been hard to come by. I was looking for some for my garden since a bale of hay is equivalent to a small package of it if I went to a garden store. The straw usually is about $12 a bale when it's available. They said to check back in October. So I might call then for the following season. But at least they had alfalfa if I wanted that. They do carry taste of the wild dog food and some other random ones as well. They sometimes have chickens and they seem to have a small amount of horse tack and halters. Plenty of parking in the lot. Located in a industrial/neighborhood area. The staff at the front cashier was very nice and helpful.

Longhorn Feed closes at 5:30 on the weekdays. I pulled up dead center with the double front doors which were wide open just a couple minutes before 5:30. Two employees were standing there and saw me as I started out of my truck. My cell phone rang and I reached back in my truck and took the call which lasted all of maybe three minutes. Right at 5:30, with me standing next to my truck and not more than 10 or 15 feet from the door, the one guy, a chubby guy with red hair, closed and locked the door with me standing right next to my truck and obviously about to walk in. A minute later he and another employee unlocked the door and walked out and relocked the door. I asked the chubby guy with red hair if he didn't see me standing there ready to walk in...he never even looked up; he just said, "we close at 5:30! I again said, but you saw me right here when you closed the door...again, nothing but, "we close at 5:30". I then said, this is a small community, you can't stay in business if you treat locals like this...again, nothing but "we close at 5:30". I then said, "well we're only three weeks from having Tractor Supply open right down the road not to mention that we have The Hay Company right down the road also. I have a felling that you won't stay in business if you continue to treat locals like this"...his response was...yea...well we'll see, we close at 5:30". This kind of treatment coupled with the fact that they're often out of different types of grain and that literally nothing in the store is price marked has helped me to make the decision to never do business at this feed store again. The horse community is a pretty close nit group and once there's "bad talk...people walk"...trust me. I will talk!!!
