Funny how the owner David left this comment responding to my review when he wasn't there and all of…read moretheir trash cans were full from the previous party. So we proceeded to ask the lady who he left in charge who pretty much knew NOTHING and she told us to just leave it out there and she would take care of it so WE DID and that resulted in them taking our deposit. Sounds like a scam from the business to me. Employee tells you one thing, owners tell you another. Please people don't even bother getting scammed and I'm sure if I left the place in a mess, he would've taken photos. We cleaned up everything and even swept the place. These people are full of it, don't waste your time. Also took him a year to respond, never responded to any of the emails or calls. Scam likely , bravo!

As a host, the space is reasonably priced, clean, well-lit, conveniently located, and most importantly - completely wheelchair accessible. There are very few venues in the East Bay where the entire space is accessible. In this case, this includes the mezzanine (there is a lift), and there are 2 accessible bathrooms (of the 6 total bathrooms). I have also found that the space has adequate tables and chairs, as well as a small stage, a projector, and sound system, so I don't have the added expense of renting those things. I wish it had a kitchen (it has a fridge), but other than that, this space is awesome for lots of types of events! I already have another event booked there in November.

THE CITY CLUB BAR…read more John treated me ! Thanks Johnny boy!! I started with a Gin Martini 2 olives & a twist on ice ... Unfortunately the ice wasn't in cubes so the flavor was so watered down that I couldn't taste the gin at all...We then were served some great little warm breads with delicious butter YUM! The split mixed iceburg lettuce salad arrived which was a generous portion & well dressed with some notes of tarragon ..nice! John ordered the braised short rib & he subbed out the mashed potato/roquefort for the fried potato disks that came with the rib eye. Good spuds! My beef bourguignon had wonderful toothsome wide egg noodles but weirdly, chunks of green pepper & undercooked pearl onions? The beefy gravy was perfect on the pasta BUT the beef's texture was terrible.. mushy without a smidgen of bite! YUCK! When John had me taste his beef the resuts were much the same... too soft & textureless.. then the opposite...the pretty split carrot halves were too hard & undercooked on his plate to bring out their sweetness....I assume these 2 long cooked meats styles had been sitting for god knows how long I left most of the dinner to take home & see if I could repair the dish... (I'll probably eat the noodles and use the beef in a taco?). so my suggestion is to order the rack of lamb (if I return....which John had had & recommended) & stay away from long cooked items (except beans)

We were on a small budget so we also needed something at a reasonable price. This place hit all that and more. All of our guests loved the venue and it helped that it was a beautiful sunny day. The garden area made for a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and great for photos. The lake was beautiful with all the ducks swimming around. I loved everything about this venue and definitely recommend it if you are having a small wedding.

Everything went smoothly, and we felt very comfortable in the hands of these pros. (I was a little worried because we didn't have a wedding planner or wedding coordinator, but my mind was set at ease the moment I walked into the venue and saw these vendors setting up.) The beach house was the perfect size for the 60 guest reception and the patio was a beautiful place to hold the ceremony. Everything went smoothly and everyone was very happy with the event. The only hitch we ran into was that it was difficult to schedule a rehearsal because the venue was booked up. We ended up having to have the rehearsal on July 4, when the venue was closed so we could only use the patio. However, that worked out since the ceremony was all taking place on the patio, and that was the part that they needed to practice. It was a warm day, so it was good to have the air-conditioned rooms for the meal. However, it was also very comfortable outside by 6 PM.

Not only is the venue beautiful and spacious, but the organizer is super nice and accommodating. There are high ceilings, great audio, a nice stage, and lots of useful equipment. We pretty much didn't have to decorate at all on our end because when we got there, it was already beautifully adorned with holiday decorations and a huge Christmas tree! For such an amazing venue, it's amazing how inexpensive the total cost was! Aside from the venue itself, the planning involved to secure the venue and set everything up was made incredibly easy by the manager. She was very responsive by email and helpful in suggestions for what can be done with the event. She also owns a super cute doggo that's Instagram famous! All in all, great experience and couldn't ask for more.

We knew about the Berkeley Hillside's affinity for classical music, so we thought our program would be a good match. The Hillside Club's manager Araceli was very responsive and informative about their availability, requirements and willingness to accommodate us. Not only did Araceli understand our needs but she was extremely supportive and volunteered to help us with anything we might need in order to offer a highly successful and professional production. We recommend this venue, not only for the amazing architecture and splendid acoustics, but also for the great communication of our hosts; their openness and their flexibility to accommodate our very specific needs. The venue has a beautiful stage, with ample backstage (a green room upstairs and one downstairs - with access to a bathroom) and it is great for small productions such as ours, or small chamber music concerts that they host often. If you do visit the Berkeley Hillside, be sure to make the acquaintance of Bella - the Boston Terrier of the club whom we adopted as our mascot. She is a real drama queen and will definitely brighten your day

I stayed…read morehere for two nights and was hosted by a family member who has been a member for many years. Family members from the East and West Coast also stayed, which made for a wonderful time. The building is nostalgic and reminds me of country clubs I stayed at in New York State. The beautiful wood, the grand staircase, and the royal-colored decor took you back to the gilded age. Outside my bedroom window stood two magnolia trees with gorgeous blossoms. The room size was generous, and every morning a continental breakfast consisting of juice and pastries were available only steps away from my door. We enjoyed lunch by the golf course and walked the beautiful grounds. The club rules are reasonable, in my opinion - no denim, shirts must have collars, etc. Perhaps the most difficult rule to follow and remember was the cell phone rule - they aren't allowed. Frankly, not being enslaved to my phone was quite lovely. After a few hours of not using it, I didn't miss it. Also, not being able to use my phone to take photos or chat is the reason I didn't take pictures inside of the facility. I respected the rules. I did take a few photos of the front entrance, though. One of my family members had a reception and birthday party in the ballroom while I was there, hence my reason for staying. It was fabulous! The food, the cocktails, wine, and service were spectacular. From the swing music the band played to the yesteryear atmosphere and attire, this was one of the most memorable weekends I've had in quite some time.

Like, hard-to-swallow-dry. The carrots and the potatoes were good though. The poor pig died in vain. - Spaghetti di mare: Oily! - Steak: Ordered medium, came out super rare. Mom was just going to eat it, insisting it was fine, but then our server came over and took one look and said "yeah that's definitely rare". At our server's insistence, it was sent back and it was more medium, but it was tough. Not much flavor either. - Fish and chips: Also overcooked and tough. - Shrimp: Same, overcooked and tough and the pesto pasta also lacked flavor. - Ribs and tagliatelle were "ok". The only passable entrees, but far from being spectacular. You may ask why we didn't complain to our server. Well, first, we never send entrees back. Second, how do you even send five out of eight entrees back?! After my mom's steak returned medium and it still wasn't good, why bother? Our starters: buffalo wings, fried calamari and truffle fries were decent enough, but after that it was all downhill. We all passed on dessert. I don't think we've ever had a family dinner where we all complained so much. Looking at the most recent reviews, it looks like our experience is not an isolated one. The prices are not justified for what it was. $51 for a steak, $42 for a pork chop. $15 for a mocktail is steep even for a fancy restaurant, which Townhouse is not. I am not opposed to forking over money for food and drink, if it's good. Almost $500 including tax and tip down the drain. The service was fine. The apps and alcoholic spirits were alright, thus 2 stars.
