It started very well in the beginning early last year. But, today I picked up my dog and she was shaved again! They had her in there for 3hours! Just to shave all her fur! :( I asked for a trim half an inch on the body (I don't want her shaved, keep her fluffy) shave the tummy, clean private parts, teeth cleaning and bath. I had her groomed to be ready for a photo and now she's shaven. I'm so upset! This is the second time they did this to us. And, I can't be understanding anymore. Last time was last November 2025. So she's, ready for the holiday festivities and photos. But, she was shaved! I had to have her wear sweaters all winter because she was getting cold and looked malnourished. And, they offer a free grooming for next time! Why in the world would I bring my dog to them again. No consistency! Both times it was the same person at the drop off. I have nothing good to say to this place anymore.

They said they would start with a bath and go slow with the blower and see how she does. They assured me they'd stop at any point if she got too anxious with the process. She did well and I picked her up a few hours later with her smelling great with a nice trim as well. She looked amazing. I am really happy with the staff at Cali Petz. Everyone is very kind and willing to talk about any concerns I had throughout the process. I will definitely be going back for dog grooming. Had been referred by some folks I see at the Morgan Hill Dog Park. Great experience - Becky showed me her whole place and set-up - she is both sole owner and sole groomer - and had super patience dealing with one very tired cat that ended up needing a total shave and bath as well as the less grumpy and happier dog kid. Becky shared she likes to minimize stress on all furry clients and tries to coordinate so that one is leaving with its parent as another comes in vs. having furry kids waiting in kennels. She does cats which is cool and has some larger long-haired cats at home of her own. Calling again today to book our next appointment :-)

But the real highlight is Joann the owner. With 20 plus years in business and a dog lover and owner herself she's the main reason I come here. Her attention to detail, and the personal attention and care she gives the dogs is unmatched. We have had three doodles from Cali Pals each with serious health issues. Our first dog Scout developed Juvenile Cellulitis as a puppy. This is a very, very painful disorder. I sat with Scout and cried with Scout as we nursed him back to health. And Scout would wail and whimper in pain. It was so hard, and I felt so helpless. My vet said that the disease came from the stud line. Tricia did not believe me until there was another litter from which a pup developed the same painful condition. To Tricia's defense, it is not a common disease. The illness is cited to create lasting personality changes as well. We had a difficult time with training after the illness. So, we hired Tricia to board and train Scout for two weeks. During this time, she was able to observe the behavior problems. And to Tricia's credit, she offered to replace Scout with a new puppy. Our second doodle, Shadow was amazing. All of the wonderful traits you read about with Cali Pals puppies. Just a lovely, lovely dog. So, it was especially heartbreaking with Shadow died before the age of two years because of congenital kidney failure. We cried and cried. And to Tricia's credit, she handled the situation with kindness and generosity. She gave us our third doodle, Coqui. Coqui, at two years, was diagnosed with epilepsy. This morning, I just held her for thirty minutes as she endured another seizure. This was about the twelfth seizure. I haven't been able to decide if we should start permanent, ongoing medications. But we probably will need to do so. Tricia hasn't responded to this latest situation. That's okay. We certainly do not want another Cali Pals dog. Is Tricia highly likable? Yes. Has she been responsive to our situations and heartbreaks? Yes. Are we an anomaly? I don't know. I thought it is time to go public with our story today with the desire to prevent other families from this type of heartache not to mention veterinarian expenses.

Everyone has had the same experience as me and I continually get updates on how thankful they are I put them in touch with Tricia, the breeder. We now have a 1 1/2 year old boy Dodge and my Mum has a one year old Libby, all different personalities but all very healthy and with great dispositions, we live them all. The staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable until the ambulance arrived. In addition, they said that they would keep my doggie until necessary! Today, 8/4/26, Dr. Whitely herself called me to check up on ME, to see how I was doing!! She didn't have to do that but I very much appreciate how kind and thoughtful that was. I love how they take time to explain everything.. they do not pressure you or make you feel guilty (which I have had from other places) or bad about any decision you make in pet care. They are constantly reassuring and offering multiple options of care individualized to each pet. Everyone is always understanding and helpful ... from the front desk to the Vet. I'm supper over the top not wanting my fur babies out of my sight when they are having things done and they are always accommodating when possible to help not only my nervousness but also nervousness of the pet. The outpouring of kindness and compassion when my elderly cat declined quickly was just more than I could ask for. They way they explained in detail what was wrong providing copies of test results and X-rays without my having to beg. I've been mulling over the death of my beautiful black lab for 6 years now. I had brought him into…read morethis vet clinic for a back X-ray because he seemed to be limping and in pain. The doctor who did the X-ray (I don't recall her name, sadly), showed me that my lab, who was 9, had a spleen tumor. She said he maybe had 6 months to live. I was devastated. I asked if there was any way he could have surgery. She said no and recommended some Chinese herbs to help prevent bleeding (in case the tumor burst, as if that could save him somehow). I was so stupid to trust what she said. I still cry over my big lab's death. I didn't think to go get a second opinion, and I should have, considering some other instances at this vet clinic where I believe my pets were wrongly treated (and no one would ever admit their fault). One time a tech gave my same lab an allergy shot in his neck that basically paralyzed him for a couple of days. He fell off his bed and I had to take him to an emergency clinic, where they tended to him. I found out, over the ensuing months and years after his death, that it is possible to have surgery. Golden Gate Lab Rescue (we foster for them) told us many of their old labs had successful surgeries to either remove the tumor or the entire speen! I was stunned to learn about this, and have since heard of many success stories. I am certain that if I had gone to another vet, a competent one, I could have had surgery done instead of watching my poor boy go through seizures, pain, and finally paralysis and death months after that diagnosis. I noticed too that the vet never brought in any other vet at this clinic to consult and discuss. She just said, sorry, your dog is going to die and there's nothing you can do. I am still grieving my lab, who was the love of my heart. He should still be alive today. Now, with the old lab I rescued, I do ultrasound screenings annually (Golden Gate Lab Rescue does this) to detect early any sign of a speen tumor, which is common in some large breeds. I don't know if this vet practice is any better, but 1) no one ever apologized to me and 2) they told me that since I had voiced concern over that neck shot, they refused to have me as a client any longer. I actually got a "dear John" letter from them, instead of their apologizing to me for the incompetent treatment that caused my dog pain.

I never waited for than a few minutes, and in just a few minutes the staff gave my cat a microchip, his vaccines, and also shaved some mats off of him. Then the vet did a brief check up and I was out the door. I was so impressed at how friendly and efficient everyone was! I'm so used to needing to wait 30+ minutes for any appointment I schedule (human doctors, car service, DMV), that I was so pleasantly surprised at the professionalism and efficiency of the staff here. Definitely bringing my pet back!
