This bakery deserves all the attention. My office is near by and I can't help myself - I stop by in the morning most of the time but sometimes I will for lunch or for an afternoon treat or even on weekends I'll travel in to grab a cake or pastries for someone's party. The asian auntie who is running this place knows how to sell. The pastries are always fresh and stocked well. Price is unbeatable compared to other bakeries in Chinatown. Service is friendly and even when they can't speak english sometimes, they'll find a way to do it and also do it with a smile. I can't recommend this place enough! Favorite items to get: sponge cake, bolo baos, egg tarts, fried mochi, rice rolls with black bean spare ribs, and siu mai. It's also one of the few places in Chinatown that has a restroom. I wish it was a bit cleaner but it is still useable. Plenty of tables for you to hang at - many old asian uncles and aunties hang out so you know this place is legit!

The service was friendly but if you don't speak Cantonese, come early and other customers will help. Perfect ambiance, reminds me of home. A true community gathering place.

We wanted just a touch of tea, and happened one of the locations of Tatte Bakery & Cafe, the one on Summer Street near the Financial District. It's a rather large bright modern corner spot with huge windows facing both Summer and High streets. I am guessing around 25 seats at tables, another dozen or so at the coffee bars, more at a counter along the window. There were bright spring flowers outside, around 20 seats at tables, and maybe 10 Adirondack chairs. We got a simple black tea, with sugar and milk, and noticed that the tea is in more of an open-mesh net than a finely-woven tea bag. The tea was strong and rich with no bitterness. For a bit of lunch, we can't resist a traditional shakshuka. They say it's "North African" style: poached in a rich tomato sauce with bell peppers and onions, flavored with cumin and lightly spiced with chili. Lovely, dense, and satisfying. They have so many fresh pastries, we could not resist a creamy-textured halva muffin. A perfectly pleasant deIght to finish our tea. Tatte grew from a Boston farmers' markets to have many locations around Boston, and as far as Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC! We'll certainly keep an eye open in Annapolis and Rockville!

We settled on Tatte Bakery & Café, and I'm glad we did. We both ordered the oatmeal--which might sound boring, but it was anything but. The overnight oats were topped with fresh blueberries, orange blossom honey-soaked dried apricots, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds. The real star of the dish was the ginger date syrup. And as a bonus, it's gluten free. Tatte is a wonderful café to sit, relax, and enjoy good, fresh food.

The Chinese name is "Juxiang Mianbao Fang聚香麵包坊". It had the taste of an old-fashioned bakery and…read morewas very cost-effective. Portuguese Egg Tart葡撻: The shop keeps the egg tarts in a warming box, which is very thoughtful. I've always preferred the cookie crust of old-fashioned Hongkongese egg tarts; they don't crumble or feel sticky in your throat. The custard filling looked a bit overbaked on the surface, but it was still smooth and creamy inside. The milk and egg flavors were qualified, and it was not too sweet. While not particularly amazing, it definitely deserved 4 stars, especially for a Cantonese person like me who hasn't had egg tarts in a long time. Hongkongese Egg Tart蛋撻: The crust is the same as the Portuguese egg tart, but the custard filling seems a bit more diluted, with a lighter milk flavor and a stronger egg flavor. People who aren't used to it might find it a bit eggy. I still prefer the former. Custard Bread奶黃包: Recommended by the owner, and it was definitely the best thing there! I ate it the next morning, but the bread was still soft, and the crust wasn't dry. The custard filling was generous, sweet, creamy, moist, and had a slightly grainy texture. Sausage Bread腸仔包: The seasoning was quite interesting, with a hint of wasabi (?). However, the sausage itself was just average, with a slightly starchy texture. Breads generally cost $2-4 each, and here four items were only $8+, enough to last me all day Important Reminder: Cash only for orders of $10 or less.
