When entering the candy shop, you may be given a bag or metal bin to choose candy. The candy is primarily sold and weighed by the pound. You are able to pick and mix the candy in your bin whether you like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, caramels, maples, chocolate with pretzels etc. If you have friends and loved ones out of town, Heggys does have the option to have your chocolates mailed from their location across the country. A great idea for any occasion. People love their Heggys Chocolate and nuts Candy by the pound is around $15.50. There is also a nut counter with mixed nuts, pecans, hazelnuts, cashews and more. Behind the counter, workers work diligently individually wrapping various chocolates and caramels with each day being different candies for the week wrapped. We stopped into this location over the weekend and chose this location because it was open the latest (5pm) on Saturdays. They have a large selection of homemade candies and roasted nuts. We loved that we could grab a bag and fill it with the candies we wanted instead of having staff do it for us. Everything is phenomenal but our favorites are always the French mints, the maple creams, and the haystacks. This time, we tried the dark chocolate covered roasted pecans - these were outstanding and my new favorite for sure! We also purchased a bag of roasted and salted pecans and some extra large jelly beans. The staff allowed us to sample them before buying which was really nice. The chocolates here are pretty spectacular. My sister in law likes the dark chocolate peanut clusters. I like the milk chocolate orange peels, the buckeyes, and I like those peanut clusters too. Seriously, everything here is pretty solid and you can't go wrong with anything you try. I've been to this location, the one on Tusc, and the one at Hall of Fame village. I have been eating Heggy's chocolates for more than 70 years. They are delicious! I especially like their dark chocolate and the salted pecans. The store in downtown Canton is not fancy, but that is okay. The candy speaks for itself, and I have always been treated well by the staff. It smells so good when you enter. Like most other reviewers, my stop here was a sentimental one: Ben Heggy's was my grandma's favorite candy shop when she grew up in Canton in the 1940s. But even without that connection, I truly adored this place! The set-up here is unlike anything I've ever seen, and assuming it hasn't changed much since it opened nearly 100 years ago, I can see how it would leave any kid wide-eyed and in love! All the candies are individually wrapped, and there's no display case separating them from customers. You grab a metal container, slip on some gloves, and grab what you like! Then, they weigh your selection, transfer the candies into a bag, and you pay at the counter. When my total was so much less than I expected, I took the container back and went down the line for a second round. The people working here were also so kind. They advised me on the most popular varieties and gave me all kinds of insider tips and stories that added to the small-town chocolate shop feel that was absolutely one-of-a-kind. You can order online for nation-wide shipping, but the in-store experience adds so much. You can choose to get a premixed box, or have them make a box up with your own assortment, or just grab a bag and choose whatever you'd like. The ingredients are clearly labeled for any allergies. I purchased a gc for a Christmas gift for my parents. After Christmas they said they never received it. It was deducted from my account when I looked it up. I called Heggys right away to see what was going on . I get this invalid invoice in the amount of 90$ which was stated as declined. 1. My gc was for 150$ which was the amount deducted from my bank. I showed this to Heggys and they blew it off and said , call your bank. So I did and disputed it. It was finally reimbursed into my account . 2. Why was the declined invoice only 90$ ? When I have proof of 150? Where did the other 60$ go to? 3. You still declined to believe me after showing you the proof of purchase. Now a month later it's fully refunded into my bank , and I have heard nothing from Heggys. 4. I feel like I was totally stolen from. 5. Ruined my gift to my parents for Christmas by you. 6. Your staff was highly rude to me thru this and I have a contact name and number from the employee who was so rude. 7. I am completely dumbfounded that noone from management or ownership has even tried to contact me to rectify this matter. I love their candies . I grew up in canton, ohio. As a child I have many fond memories of my grandpa at McKinley basketball games in his long overcoat with a little white bag in his packet with caramels. Candy is the best however the service today was not! Stopped in to purchase candy 25 minutes before close and the neon open sign was on display! The two clerks ignored my friend and I and one continued to have a lengthy conversation with a woman (it seemed she was not purchasing anything) who was standing in front of the bin of candy I wanted to purchase! The other clerk walked up to the front, ignored us as well and continued to wipe the scales! I finally asked to be waited on so we could get our candy! I was rudely told to get a bag or use the scoop. and get my candy so I asked the lady standing in front of the candy to step over a little so I could get what I wanted! Then put the scoop in the scale and both clerks ignored me! Finally my friend said could we just get our candy weighed and pay so we could leave!!!! Finally we were able to pay and leave! I am so sorry for only 2 stars nothing to do with the candy but when the store was clearly open but the clerks didn't want to serve us! No greeting or even an acknowledgement of being there is unacceptable! As a newbie to Ohio I definitely thought this was a fun find! You step in to the store, grab a bag and start filling! Most options have a milk and dark chocolate version. My personal favorite are the pecan clusters! If you come at the right time of day you can literally see the pieces of candy being hand wrapped. They are great about seasonal options - I've seen Valentine's Day and now Easter themed options. Oh, and don't even get me started on the nuts. So, I stumbled upon this place when I was visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame a few years ago. There is nothing open in downtown Canton except this place. It is very sad. Two miles up the road are several strip malls with all the cheap national chains, which has left downtown Canton almost completely vacant. It was a surreal experience driving through the downtown part of a historic city and seeing block after block of empty store fronts. This place was the only thing open, so I stopped in, and my life hasn't been the same since!! They make all their own chocolates and caramels! They also roast their own nuts. So now, every winter I order several (.lbs) boxes of chocolates. I used to get a variety, but lately I've settled on Chocolate Covered Salted Spanish Peanuts. Because, they are just the best thing I've ever eaten! It's reminds me of a Peanut Buster Parfait from DQ, but better. I usually order 4-5 pounds of them and I personally have made myself sick by eating almost a pound of Milk Chocolate Coated Peanuts. Don't leave them laying around, they are very Addictive! Anyway, Ben Heggy's is a little company that has been in business since 1923. Nowadays, they don't get much foot traffic, so most of their business is online, and it's all good. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Ben Heggys. It's literally a tradition in my family. The couples get a 2lb box and the kids get 20 bucks. I remember I couldn't wait to get married, just for the Ben Heggys. Sadly, this year was a bit different. I got my 2lb box from my Aunt and opened it. Multiple pieces of the chocolates looked like they were pushed, kind of like someone squeezed them to see what they were. Mind you, these boxes were gift wrapped by the company. Not only that, but several pieces were actually out of the wrapper and smushed to the bottom of the box. Usually I wouldn't complain. But, like previously mentioned, Ben Heggys only comes around once year in my family. Needless to say. The entire box had to be thrown away. OMG Heggys...how I have missed you! I remember getting these candys whenever I would go see my grandparents and they would send a 2lb box every year of the jersey creams and french mints (back when we were all still civil). I haven't had these in YEARS and for some reason thought about them this year and wanted to order...and yes they were online! I'm not as dedicated a fan of Heggy's chocolates as many of the other reviewers. In fact, I would dare say they're not even in my top 5 list. My Mom and I are shocked that the taste of Heggy's candy has changed. We have been ordering it at Christmas time for years yet something is definitely different in our opinion. There should be more stars to give for the review of Ben Heggy's Candys. I was raised with Ben Heggy's candies. I moved to California in the early 1970s after college. I forgot about Ben Heggy candies until a visit back to Canton after many many years. I drove by the store and had to go in . All my favorite candies were there ( chocolate covered raisins) and then some. California has Sees candies. They are amazing sweet wondrous chocolate for sure. But in my opinion do not match that quality taste and variety than Ben Heggy has. Now since my Canton visit several years ago, I always order 3 or 4 pounds at Xmas time.
