This restaurant is always a go-to for delicious pho and Vietnamese dishes whenever I'm in Burlington. Their portions are big and the servers are very nice. The place had lots of seatings and is brightly lit. The rare lean beef and flank brisket pho was full of umami flavour. Unfortunately, the beef was already fully cooked by the time the food came to us. The lemongrass porkchop was tender and juicy. It didn't appear to be grilled compared to what I expected. But you don't really need the sauce that comes with it as the flavour was very satisfying. The food might take awhile to come depending on how busy they are. We've been frequenting various locations of Ben Thanh for about 14 years or so. Out of the five locations we've visited, the food at this one is definitely the least impressive as are the waitstaff. We ordered two vermicelli dishes, both with shrimp on a sugarcane. This is the first time we've ever seen so little shrimp in comparison to sugarcane. And the flavour was okay, but not particularly tasty. The pork meatballs were quite good and the portion was fair. The grilled pork was tasty and well-cooked. The portion was also fair. The spring roll was quite good and was nice and hot when delivered. There were lots of noodles, but not nearly enough vegetables or bean sprouts. We waited at least ten minutes after being seated before being approached by a waiter. Our tea was never topped up, nor were we asked how our meals were (not uncommon in a Vietnamese restaurant). The waitstaff didn't smile and were fairly surly. The decor was very nice and quite contemporary. It's very unlikely we'll return to this location. read more

2-1/2 stars. The food was okay -- not great; not bad; just okay. I had the broccoli and shrimp in garlic sauce. It was okay. One of my friends noted that this place seems to be better for Vietnamese food than it is for Thai food. Anyway, the service was lacking. Three out of four at our table were served our orders. It was quite some time before we could flag our server to let her know that our fourth friend did not receive her meal -- the server hadn't noticed. No apologies from the server, just "oh, they're working on it now", which we decided meant that someone forgot and they had just started that order. In the meantime, for the rest of us, our food was cooling and we had begun to eat It was hard to catch our server's attention all evening, and we finally had to get up and walk to the front till in order to get our bill. read more

Came here with a friend - it was fine. The service was acceptable, the drinks came slowly and the food came quickly. Suspiciously quickly, really. The menu is HUGE, but I think it's mainly all the same ingredients thrown together in different ways, which I suppose explains things coming out quickly. The food? Meh. I ordered a stir fried chicken dish that was listed as one of their house specialties and wasn't super impressed. It was a lot more veggies than it was chicken and not super flavorful. I would come back here because there were a ton of great sounding options on the menu and it's walking distance from my place, but seeing as how I was disappointed in a house specialty, I'm not extremely optimistic that I'll enjoy other dishes more. The only reason I wouldn't give this a 5-star is for the long wait to get my food. I came with my husband and we ordered two apps and two dishes. His main dish came out first, we waited a few minutes assuming mine would come out shortly but it didn't for another 15-20 minutes. We decided to share his dish first, it was pretty much finished by the time my main came out. The restaurant was dead (Tuesday night). There were maybe 3 other tables in the entire restaurant being served so not sure what happened there. BUT food is still sooooo amazing! There used to be a Mississauga location closer to home, which I miss!! So I was really looking forward to eating here again! The food at this location is just as good! I was so looking forward to dinner tonight. I've been to Ben Thanh in Kitchener and Guelph and have had excellent food at both places. The Waterloo location is an unfortunate exception. I had the WORST Pad Thai ever. I asked for some more sauce because what I had was red in colour and just tasted like hot sauce. it turns out that their "Pad Thai" sauce is just Ketchup and Hot Sauce....no tamarind paste; no chives or scallions; no peanuts..... I do not know how long this place has been around but I have to say that their food is very good. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance that leans towards an upscale feel without the upscale prices. The menu is absolutely huge. One thing I thought was actually really impressive is the waiter knew every menu item by number and reverse so if I said chili salt calamari he knew the number and if I said the number he knew the dish. You can only realize how well he knew the menu if you knew how many items were on the menu. They have numbers... that's how big it is. As far as the service went our server was awesome. He was very polite and was very accommodating. The food came out really quick too. Anyway there were 3 of us and each of us had ordered two items so we had a variety of dishes to sample and experience during this lunch trek. I had started with the chili salt calamari which came out deep fried and piping hot in under 5 minutes. The taste was great. They were nicely cooked, not rubbery and lightly battered just right. The spice was good with a great compliment of peppers, onions and spice to balance the calamari. My main dish was a chicken pad thai. It was a toss up between that or the black bean beef with rice noodles. This pad thai serving was huge! For the first time in a long time or ever I actually couldn't finish everything and I ended up taking the left overs in a container. There was a generous serving of meat as well as tofu in this so it was very filling. I left very satisfied to say the least. We will definitely be returning to this place. The menu item selection is fabulous. We saw a pho being served to another patron on the way out. That looked good too. Everything looked good on the menu and everything we ordered was great. I was first introduced to Ben Thanh years ago when I was living in Waterloo. Somehow we stumbled on it, and now, years later, the Ben Thanh chain to me epitomizes Vietnamese cuisine. This location is large and clean. If you want an upscale Vietnamese restaurant for a reasonable price, this is it. The decor is modern and perfect for a date or for a nice family meal. My fiancé and I both got the 108 (pho with rare beef and beef balls), his was a large and mine a small. We decided the portion sizes were perfect for us. Usually he finishes his meal quickly and watches as I eat, prompting me to guiltily hand over a portion of my meal. Not this time, we finished at the same time. The pho was good. The soup base was tasty, with a good portion of meat and a generous serving of bean sprouts. The soup looked oily, but it didn't taste heavy. The service was good, water came quickly, the meal came fast and the server stopped by to ask how our meal was (normal server etiquette, but something I've learned not to expect). Overall, a very good experience. I'd be back. There used to be a location in Mississauga that I would go to very often that unfortunately closed down. The pho is not legit. All powder and MSG, and if you don't believe me, just look at the bottom of your bowl after you finish the noodles: you can see the powder all settled out of the soup. My daughter drank an entire bottle of water after we left. MSG makes you thirsty. I've been eating real pho in the gta for 20 years. One taste of the broth and I knew. I've been going to Ben Thanh restaurants since I was little, but the one by me closed down. So my only option is Burlington. Far, but worth it to get the dish and drink I love. The service at this location has really improved, since first coming here a year ago. They're friendlier and more attentive and the dishes come out faster. Though I got my drink near the end of my meal, but it is a Vietnamese restaurant, so that's normal. This most recent trip I ordered Malaysian Noodles (427B) and Ice Cappuccino (051). My only complaint is the mild lack of salt in the noodles, but as a saltaholic, normal people shouldn't have that issue. The ice cappuccino was perfect, best one I've ever had, well worth the $4.50. But I ate every single piece on my plate, so the mild lacking of salt wasn't that big of an issue. My gf ordered the basil fried rice, we were confused that it came with pineapple, but they said it was on the menu and I didn't get a chance to double check. So I'm unsure about that, but she said it was still great. Everything was clean, bathroom was nice, despite those toilets that flush automatically when you least expect it. read more

This is probably my favorite Viet restaurant. The restaurant was super clean when we came in and we were greeted and seated promptly. The menu is huge with lots of pictures which makes choosing menu items kind of overwhelming. Each of the menu items have numbers beside it so when the waitress comes and takes your orders, i suppose it's easier to simply say the number instead of the entire name of the order? Our waitress was very polite, and she was always quick to cater to her guests - as her tables were all sitting fairly close to us. She didn't ask us if we liked the food, she usually just made eye contact with us to signal whether we needed anything etc. I ordered the wonton soup and shrimp garlic fried rice which I would say are a great combo together. I recently started working in the area and was dead set against going back to BT in the first month. First, the reviews put me off. Secondly, I wanted to try other places before I came back. I caved yesterday and went in for my lunch break. The parking is huge so no worries about finding space. The store is still dimly lit but spacious. There were a few tables taken and I was seated quickly. The one thing I really didn't like and took one star off for was the cleanliness of the menus. They were sticky and had to be peeled off of each other. I got my food fast: Tom Yum Seafood with Vermicelli. I was about to yell after my waiter after I ordered as I visioned one tiny shrimp and disintegrating crab meat. Thank god he was too far by then because I looooved my food. The tom yum flavor was all there with 4 huge shrimps and some cohesive crab meat. This is a time where I wish I ordered a medium. Staff is attentive and there's always 2-3 of them walking around. Will return when the weather gets a little colder for this soup. read more

Some things to note right off the bat, in terms of decor & cleanliness this Ben Thanh restaurant gets an A+, however, everything else could use some serious improvement for the price paid here in my opinion. For starters, the portions are way to small compared to other locations I've visited. Our group of 6 ordered 5 mains and we definitely were not full after leaving. Also, this is the first location I ever visited where tea isn't served. How do you drop the ball on something simple like that? Service is excellent since there's always wait staff around to help you. This restaurant is pretty authentic for a Vietnamese place in Burlington. The restaurant itself is huge! You never have to make reservations it's never fully packed. They have a huge menu of a variety of food items. They have Chinese food, Thai food, Vietnamese food and get this a whole menu of dim sum items! So this place is not cheap like the Vietnamese places you would find in Chinatown. But if you're craving for Vietnamese this place will hit the spot. You just have to pay a bit more for your cravings. Dim sum is not cheap but I have to admit it's all very fresh and tasty. I came with my kids and we ordered summer shrimp rolls to start and the steam rice rolls with shrimps to start. Then we shared a extra large beef balls pho. Very tasty. So let's start with the good. The Shrimp Eggplant was nicely seasoned, very tasty, just the right amount of heat and great flavour. Shrimp was nicely cooked and eggplant was just at that perfectly soft cooking. Then....we get the laksa. What a surprise. No flavour no seasoning bland bland bland. Chicken was overcooked and dry - amazing I can call it that considering it was floating in soup. Spring rolls were pleasant. Again, it needs a pop of flavour. Pad Siew Beef was ok too - definitely better than the laksa and the spring rolls. Good amount of heat and seasoning. Beef was nice, slightly to the overcooked side but ok. Service was reasonable and pleasant, no issues there. The place has potential to be taking it to the next level. Question is if they want to do it. Ben Thanh in Burlington is one of those places in a strip mall that you would pass by without giving it a second thought. My co-worker had been working in the area for 10 yrs and never went here. We decided to give it a go and we were amazed that we never ventured here before. Upscale casual dining, with a price point that is amazingly easy on the wallet. A huge menu selection, ranging from traditional Thai to Pho (actually said like Pha, Vietnamese hot soup). Service was excellent as we were blown away by our waiters ability to memorize everything on the menu just by telling him the number of the dish (almost 500 items!!). This place is going downhill. The bf and I have been here a quite few times because they're open late. Too bad because their location is very nice. Today I got pork vermicelli, fresh rolls and a mango smoothie. "Fresh fruit" mango smoothies are NOT made with fresh fruit. They are made with fruit juice and ice. This should be called a fresh fruit slushie. Not good. Vermicelli is mostly noodles (~85%). Not much vegetables which is really too bad. For me, this should be closer to 50-50. The nuoc mam (fish sauce) is not too vinigar-y, a bit spicy. Not bad. Could be stronger, but I understand why they water it down considering the area. Shimp fresh rolls are good. Could use more mint. I couldn't even taste it...forgot to check if it was even in there. Satay dipping sauce is great. A few comments on other items we're tried. Share platters are usually pretty good although made for a Canadian palate if you know what I mean... Service is decent, a bit slow and could be more attentive. I had to try 3 times on this visit to get the waitresses' attention and probably would never have gotten her attention if the table beside us didn't call her out. Ben Thanh is located in a convenient location in Burlington and the restaurant itself is at a corner spot which you cannot miss. The interior decor is quite nice and there is an extensive list of food items to choose from. There is also all-day dim sum which is great as I do not think you can find easily find Chinese food in the area. I did not get a chance to try dim sum but I would probably just stick with the Viet and Thai food. The menu is great as it has pictures and just a variety of items to choose from. We shared 3 items which included the vermicelli platter-Meat Lovers - BBQ Beef, Chicken, Pork-Chilli Salt Calamari and the Tom Yum beef rice noodle in soup. The flavours of most of the dishes were generally pretty good. The calamari could have been more flavourful but the dish tasted pretty fresh and it was fried to perfection. The vermicelli platter is the one you would wrap with the rice paper, which was good but we were lacking the vegetable condiments. It seemed like after the first roll, we did not have enough cucumbers and veges to make more. The portion sizes in general were definitely a little lacking and did not compare to their pictures but enough for us 3 girls. I guess you cannot compare with the restaurants in Mississauga :P Generally, a decent restaurant with good vibe and service.
