Well, I'll just say right off the bat that if you do decide to eat food from here, do yourself a favor and either get takeout or get it delivered. Because the service is not only lacking, but extremely slow. Forget about being seated as we entered, we weren't even greeted. Eventually just standing there for a few minutes, we just ended up practically seating ourselves before they finally acknowledged our existence and asked how many in our party. From that point on the trend continued. Waited approximately 15 or so minutes before we eventually gave up and literally had to call someone over to take our order/get us drinks/etc. Same story for waiting on the food - took a while. Food itself was okay. I'd call it average. It wasn't bad, but certainly nowhere near fantastic enough to make me want to ever come back here to deal with the service again. Hmmm....does the name Bamboo Legend maybe come from the fact that by the time people are able to tell someone else about the restaurant, they are so old from having to wait so long that they become a legend?

We've been going to Bamboo Legend since it opened, many years ago. At first, the food was great, the service was great and we had no complaints. Over the years, the food seemed to go downhill a bit and when we'd order wine, they had nothing left on the wine list except the most expensive wines. We gave up a few years ago and just stopped going. We decided to give it another try and were pleasantly surprised that the food is once again delicious. The three of us ordered different noodle dishes and other than the lack of spice, we were very happy with them. All were very tasty and the portions were plentiful. We also ordered the calamari and the fish cakes as appetizers. The calamari was very tasty, as was the dipping sauce. The fish cakes were some of the best Thai fish cakes we've had. They were cooked just perfectly, rather than being a little overdone and rubbery as is often the case. Our only real complaint about the food was that it wasn't very hot. Everything was warmer than room temperature, but not as piping hot as it should have been. The main reason for my 3-star review instead of 4-star was that the service was just terrible. We were told to sit wherever we wanted to, but sat for at least 5 minutes before getting menus. Then we waited at least another 15 minutes for the server to come back over to take orders. He didn't even mention drinks, just said "okay, what do you want to order?". No apologies were offered for the time we had waited. A table came in while were were sitting. They waited 15 minutes and walked out. We also heard others complaining that they had been waiting too long for service and heard the server apologize several times to others. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but there was only one server and I think that was the problem. Once we put in our orders, the food came out fairly quickly so it wasn't a problem with the kitchen. Having said all that, the food was good and we will most likely be going back. We've also ordered take out once since that visit and the food was just as good and piping hot.

We used to come to bamboo legend a lot back in 2007, but the service and food went down. Everything was inconsistent and slow. But we decided to try it again. The service was just as slow, but there should be more than one server. We waited a long time to have our order taken and we ordered waters which didn't get there until we had to ask again. The server was a bit frantic as well. Our starters were calamari and fish cakes, the fish cakes were good. The calamari was good, but lukewarm, still crispy and the sauce was nice. When we ordered our mains, he didn't ask for a spice level and by the time we got order we had forgotten about that. He also never checked in on us or asked how our food was. He also was out of the wine we wanted and tried to up sell us to the highest priced bottle. The mains were great, despite the service. I had the Drunken Noodles. The overall flavour was amazing. The vegetables and noodles were cooked perfectly. The beef was a bit over and it could've been spicier. I definitely recommend the Drunken noodles. Ambience is nice and clean, nothing has changed. Their plants need water as well.

Friendly service and nice decor. Ordered bamboo legend fresh rolls, curry pad Thai, and the mango chicken. The fresh rolls were really fresh and tasty and came with a tamarind dipping sauce. Curry pad Thai was spicy and was a generous mound of noodles with some veggies although not sure cabbage is a good veggie for pad Thai. Mango chicken was a runny mess of sauce with slices of chicken breast and a couple of slices of mango. Not very good IMHO. Place was quiet when we came in but it took over 20 minutes to get our fresh rolls and another 15 to get our mains. They seem to have a steady stream of takeout orders for pick up which may have affected service for eat in clients.

Very friendly staff. Quick service. Good prices. I especially like the peanut curry, mango salad, cold rolls and spring rolls.

For just an extra $3, you can upgrade from AYCE sushi to AYCE sushi + BBQ, which gives you even more variety without a huge price jump. The iced bear coffee was strong and flavorful, and the frozen coffee bear was a nice touch since it kept the drink cold without watering it down. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented. The blowtorched sushi is always a favorite for the smoky char flavor, and the sashimi cuts were thick and fresh. We especially loved that they offer sweet shrimp, though we do wish scallops were on the menu too. The beef and salmon carpaccio were both light and refreshing. There's also a huge selection of Chinese dishes. Our favorites were the grilled shrimp skewers and the salt and pepper squid tentacles. The har gow was solid too, definitely a step above frozen dim sum, though not the standout item of the meal. Overall, we really enjoyed the dining experience here. We appreciated that the menu felt thoughtfully curated instead of being overloaded with repetitive rolls made from the same few ingredients just to pad the selection.

My only reason for not giving 5/5 stars is the food was not consistent when we reordered certain items (ex: short ribs were meaty, charred nicely from the grill, and the second order were fatty and almost undercooked with no grill marks). I liked the robots "serving food", even though they came to every table around us but we didn't get to experience it personally.

We recently reminisced about going to Bao Sandwich Bar for lunch between interviews at the University of Waterloo. I had mentioned to him that it had a second location in Mississauga, roughly a fifteen-minute drive from our workplace. He said that when we were both in the office, he'd only want to go there for lunch with me. It's nice that he trusts my judgment when it comes to eateries. I also believe that he likes my company. A couple of Wednesdays ago, he asked what I was doing for lunch. I normally hit Treats nearby. He wasn't feeling it. I said that we could go here and provided some details, including its online menu and such. I also asked him if he had any meetings. I'm that type of a planner, down to the departure time. He was game. I said that we should leave at 11:15 am. The place opens at 11:30 am. He had a meeting at 1 pm. I wanted a leisurely, unrushed lunch. Done! I drove us over there. With my lead foot, it was more like thirteen minutes, without hitting any highway. Like the Bao place in Waterloo, this one is also located on a lower level of a plaza, with a tall building at the top of this hill. I parked in front of the eatery. We walked in. We were the first customers. It looks like the place kept some of the seating from the previous business that occupied the place. The upholstery looked shabby. Otherwise, the rest of the eatery was spruced up. I got a combo consisting of these items: - Crackle belly bao - Korean garlic chicken bao - Purple flower lemonade - Dynasty duck poutine My manager got the following items: - Dynasty duck bao - Thai yum pork bao - House salad - Thai tea I took a star away because I wasn't expecting my order to be $40! It was okay for the large portion of dynastic duck poutine that I got. It was rather steep. You won't see me eating here every day. I split the poutine with my manager, so it was okay. I paid with a credit card. The transaction was smooth. It didn't take long for our food to be ready. The woman who had taken our orders was nice to bring the food to our table. I have always loved the crackle belly bao. It was equally as delicious here as it was in Waterloo. The pork belly was tasty and perfectly seasoned. The bao was nice and malleable. The veggies provided a nice contrast. I loved it. I tried the Korean garlic chicken bao. It was heavenly. The sauce was spicy and garlicky. The chicken had a crispy exterior and was juicy inside. It's nice having another decent bao to call my favourite. The purple flower lemonade was delicious. I normally don't like sweet lemonade. This version had a touch of sweetness that I enjoyed. This drink's colour was also pretty to look at. My manager enjoyed his food. He oddly doesn't like green vegetables, so I saw him pick out the cilantro and green onions. He felt that the sauces were mixed up. His Thai yum pork bao wasn't spicy. The dynasty duck that he has had in the past was oddly spicy. We had a baseline of the dynasty duck poutine that wasn't spicy to compare. Even with the sauce mix-up, he still enjoyed everything. His side salad had a bit of a spice kick, so he was happy. I loved eating here. It was a nice, casual lunch with yummy food. I wish that it were cheaper. However, the quality was excellent that I'm okay shelling out for it as someone who likely won't be dropping by weekly. (67)
