So before I was going invest, I decided to stop by the shop during my recent trip to Portland. My Son and I drove a little further into SE Portland than I had expected. The Kid was on Skype talking to a friend and opted to stay in the car, while I wandered in. What I found was a working forge, lots of support operations, and a cluttered sales floor that almost seemed like an afterthought. They even had on of those old fashioned horizontally rotating display cases that you can probably only find on ebay. I had the chance to talk with the Owner (Pat) whose personality and craftsmanship closed the sale. I received a 15% Mother's Day discount that helped too. On the way out, I picked up some literature, including their blacksmith class offerings. When I got back the car, I mentioned my experience to my Son, and suggested that he take a look himself. He jumped at the opportunity and was soon chatting Pat up about taking the Blacksmith 101 class. He was good a glass blowing last summer, so why not a little anvil and hammer? I hope he and his Mom figure out to make this work!

I'd stupidly not pulled it out of my pocket when I washed my pants and one or two of the nuts had come off in the dryer. Per their warranty instructions, I sent it to them. Because they no longer offered that model, they chose not to repair it. Instead, they offered me any knife in their catalog of equal or lesser value. I got a great replacement for FREE! The second knife I sent them was an eBay purchase. The action was a bit stiff and the knife was dull. Their warranty information mentions a free sharpening option so I sent it in. Got it back about a week later - action is a bit looser and the blade is sharp as can be. These folks offer a solid product and back it up with their service. Just outstanding. Yeah - I said it again. It's well work repeating.

(I don't live in Sandy but I'm close enough and the shop was super easy to deal with.) they sent their FFL stuff over to the other shop and I was happy to pay a rather minimal fee for the Eric's to receive the gun, handle the transaction and do the background check when I went to the shop. hour are limited so don't just stop by, make sure you call ahead to make sure the shop will be staffed.
