J&B is the best gun store in the Portland area. Period. My only regret is that I did not discover them sooner. I live on the East side of the river, so I used to be a regular at a gun store over here because it was convenient. Now I do and will always make the extra drive to J&B. I've also recommended J&B to family and friends even with the additional drive time, especially to my friends looking to buy their first gun. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable, and you can truly sense that they love firearms and helping the firearms community. James (I assume the owner but I suppose I didn't ask) is always responsive by email and has helped me obtain odd items that I'm looking for. My favorite part is that, unlike many gun stores including the one I used to go to, there are no high pressure sales tactics! I am definitely not an expert and I appreciate J&B's staff being able to knowledgeably answer my questions, but I not a new firearms enthusiast, and I appreciate a place where I am not upsold or steered away from items that I have thoroughly researched and decided upon beforehand. This location is part of a small strip mall and they share a private lot. Plenty of parking. Selection is pretty scarce since people have been buying everything in sight because of the coronavirus. The staff here is amazing. They are practicing social distancing, answered all my questions, and offered to call/email me when they restock. These guys are AWESOME. I bought an AR-15 from them years ago, and came back for my first pistol. I have been so favorably impressed with this shop over the past two months. Jake, Sam, Sean, Dane and James have been nothing but kind, patient and responsive(!) with me. If I have missed anyone I apologize. I'm a newbie pistol/revolver buyer after 30+ years out of the market. Things have changed a LOT since the 1980s. Modern pistols are so different from my old Colt .45 ACP. I really do appreciate all the help and advice...especially from Sam. He took the extra time to explain the options for pistol cleaning...on a budget. There is never ever any upsell...just plain talk and good advice. They appreciate the buyer on a budget. What else can you want? They don't handle all brands but Sam took the time and effort today to explain why not. When I bought my first firearm (and handgun) 4 years ago, I went to J&B in order to browse around. I was nervous at the time like any new firearm owner was but back then, they really helped me with the choices and differences between them. Still have the gun to this day. Recent news though, I asked of them to help me with consignment of two of my firearms. The process and convenience couldn't be more apparent nor easier. You talk about appropriate selling prices, sign some documents, and get a call that a check is ready for you. They also have a great sense of humor. On display are some large rocks that people have thrown through their storefront windows before. I can honestly say that my firearms were in good hands since no one has been able to steal them while in J&B's hands. read more

I went here to purchase my first firearm. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Due to the 2020-2021 firearm famine they didn't have the largest collection, but what they did have was carefully selected firearms at comparable prices. They usually have a selection of high-quality used firearms. I never felt pressured to purchase a firearm there, but I was able to find one that fit my criteria. Not a good experience. I prepaid and registered for their concealed carry class, which is 4.5 hours on a Sunday, once per month. I showed up today and the class was canceled without notice. I felt like they were just humoring me (which really was annoying), especially when the first guy passed me off to another when it was apparent I wasn't going to buy anything that day. I stopped by J&B today to pick up a Springfield Saint Edge Pistol I had ordered online. This was the first time I had visited J&B, so I didn't know what to expect. To my pleasant surprise (since I have generally had poor experiences with firearms retailers), this place was/is fantastic! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable; none of the "gun store attitude" I'm so used to seeing. But what surprised me most was the highly competitive pricing! These days I just expect that when you walk into a gun store, you'll encounter shoddy merchandise that's way overpriced. Not so at J&B. They had a very nice selection of both rifles and pistols, and the prices were the same as or very close to online pricing. You don't see that very often, in my experience. While I was only picking up a transfer today, I'll definitely shop here in the future. read more
