I need a knife. Not a kitchen knife. Not a workbench knife. I need a pocketknife. I opted for this Kershaw blade which hit my price point and had decent reviews. I'm very happy with it. It opens smoothly, the blade locks and while the close could be a little easier to execute, it's an impressive piece of machinery. As for the blade, it does a great job at cutting, poking and slicing. So far, it's been a nice box cutter when I don't want to use a razor blade. Terrible customer service. The screws on the clip of my knife came loose, so I took it to the warranty department in person. First, I was told they were out of screws, then that my knife was discontinued, and later received an email claiming my knife was counterfeit. On Dec. 13, 2024 I drove 20+ miles to get my Kershaw knife sharpened and arrived at Kershaw's HQ at 2:45 pm only to find the door locked with a sign on it saying they close at 3 pm. I could see a woman inside the office through the glass front but she just ignored me and ignored the phone call I made a minute later. Shortly thereafter I wrote to complain using the corporate customer service email and they've completely ignored that too. Kershaw seems to treat people like annoyances rather than customers who spent hundreds of dollars on their products. read more

For the price you can get a decent USA made knife with a solid warranty. Granted if you want a workhorse this might be your company versus a safe queen. I have a few Kershaw blades and they seem fine; build quality is good, fit and finish is good, and aesthetics are good. I have yet to submit a warranty claim so not sure how the customer service is. read more

I love this place. I happened to get a set of Shun kitchen knives when I got married. They've dulled a little bit over the years... still better than most knives. I purchased a gift for a new Navy Seal, the son of a Navy Seal. It was not delivered and no one called. I found one email in my spam box stating the shipping address is different from the billing address and when I called to ask why they didn't call me the lady with a chuckle in her voice said it was our fault and they were to busy to call every order to confirm this order. Unfortunately when I told her I couldn't talk I was to mad she said I won't ship your order and btw were gonna cancel and not ship it at all. At this time they had charged my credit card and had the money since June 22nd. They are willing to not ship to a Navy Seal ? He needs those items. It may be the item that helps him. I found Lisa to be really rude and to cancel the order when I said I was to mad to talk and would call back. She wasn't sympathetic and it sounded like she was laughing. No one there to train me the day i started not to mention NO ONE spoke a lick of english and the ones that did you could tell they never passed middle school. I went to this location when they had big sale going. They had the normal line and they had the "first responder" line. My friend and I decided to go stand in the first responder line. We are both security officers and we work in a hospital and my friend was also in the ARMY. We wanted to make sure we were good to go in so after contacting the actual campus security for Kershaw, h told us we were okay. He didn't convince me because he actually seemed very clueless. A Kershaw employee came out to speak with the people in line, after he was done, I decided to ask him about the line. I told him we were security and worked at a hospital, this guy tells me they draw the "first responder" line at the emergency department. I was confused at first and thought he was kidding. He was actually serious. But he said he would look into it. He went away and never came back to update me. I saw him again, decided to make contact and get an update. We both ended up asking the security guard that I spoke with earlier, again everyone seemed clueless and had a different answer. So I went back to my buddy and told him what was up. We both couldn't believe it. If my buddy had known he would have had his military papers and or ID. We both assumed since we were security and licensed and employed with a hospital, not just a $9 per hour mall security (no offense) that we were good to go as far as first responders go. I mean we are the "first line of defense" at work, we aid medical staff, we have saved lives because we as security were truly the first responders..... but I digress. So the Kershaw employee basically told us we couldn't get in, my buddy showed his ARMY pictures, and the employee looked at him all serious and said "YOU WILL GET IN". We get by the entrance and the guy letting people in, let me tell you what a character he was. To be honest, he was an A-hole. We get up to the door and we don't even get a chance to explain, right away he starts demanding ID/proof. My buddy tried to show him his photos, and the guy is saying "I need ID not photos" and he is rushing us and being rude. My buddy was calm and pretty much just showed him his photos anyway and the A-hole pulled a 180 and just let us in. He acted like he was doing us a huge favor and just didn't wanna deal with us because he was acting out and being an ass. This was my first time there and I was irritated and disappointed. I should have just left but I decided to still support them and the employees and I actually spent $302! I got some nice stuff but I am glad I didn't pay full price because it just isn't worth anymore than what I paid for them. So in conclusion, I did not appreciate being "singled out". To tell me as a first responder that the line ends at the emergency line, that is unprofessional, it is rude, and disrespectful. Yes I am not law enforcement as far as being a sworn peace officer, I did not serve my country in the armed forces. But I do put my behind on the line and we serve the public to a point, and we ARE first responders in our line of work at our campus. So I didn't appreciate Kershaw putting me on the back burner. If my buddy wasn't there, I would have had to go stand in the "civilian" line and wait longer. So to be honest, I have no desire to deal with Kershaw in the future. I have had zero problems and great experience going to Benchmade. Every time I go to Benchmade, they provide me with a LE/first responder discount. Heck, last time when I went in they didn't even want to bother with seeing my ID, they serviced my knives and sold me some great knives at a good price. I'm sorry Kershaw, but you lost a customer and I will continue to vote with my dollars and I will support other companies (Benchmade & MicroTech). read more

I had my first uh oh with a Kershaw knife. One of my Pure Komachi's snapped a handle off. I drove over and showed them the knife. They had a replacement for me the next day. Sadly, it is not the same color but I understand they swap colors every year or so. Turns out they also do free knife sharpening. I have two Shuns that really need it. I give this rating only because i am very angry right now. i have 11 shun classic knives, i bought them because they are a good strong knife with a great warranty. up until recently they have decided to only sharpen 2 knives at a time, well i use my knives for work everyday and i only have the chance [do to work] to sharpen once a week, so i should have all my knives sharp in about a month and a half..... just in time to start the whole process over. 2 knives r u kidding....? make the limit 5 or 10, 2 is a little ridiculous. if some one has 20 knives thats 10 trips to kershaw. u can chip them yes but who has time and y would u if u live here i portland.! to this i say booooo kershaw/kai/shun!!!!!! read more

I love my Shun knives that I bought at Crate&Barrel and WS. After having them for a year I found out I can bring them in and have them sharpened for free, I did just that. They got them all prettied up for me and I was in and out in 10 minutes with my freshly sharpened blades. read more

I have had a couple of their knives (Shun) for several years and only recently went to their annual warehouse sale. This is a great company that makes several products worthy of you buying. I am a firm believer that a good knife makes cooking that much better. As any professional chef will tell you, you don't need a full set of any knife just a couple of really good ones. Regarding the annual sale, it is worth going to, they have it every year around the end of December. The deals on the standard knives are great but the deals on the close-outs and other random sets are the way to go. Beware though if you are able to go... after standing in the huge line to get in... after winding through the selection of Kai, Shun and Kershaw knives... you will be hurting with how much you spent... but happy with how much you saved... and it is all about forward thinking. read more

I sent a knife in for service and Kershaw received it on 7-1-2020. I heavily rely on my knife as an outdoors-man and a fisherman who is constantly donating time to first responders and military veterans. I expressed kindly my concerns on two different occasions to Kershaw, and to my surprise a company that i have supported for life is unwilling to support me. No offer to send me a complementary knife to get me by until my service is done, nor an offer to expedite my order. I am now forced to treat a company i once valued in the same manner as they have treated me. I strongly suggest everyone buy somewhere else! read more

Worked here for about a year and i can tell you guys it takes on average 5 minutes to make your knives. They are building crap. The work environment is horribly hostile. The parts are all made in this location and assembled there too. But half the time i was sending stuff back because it was so poorly made. read more

I got a defective Shun Deba, then was treated very badly by the warranty department. Here are the 2 relevant emails. Although I can appreciate some of the Shun line (I have 3),I will never buy another, or a Kershaw. There are many other nicer knives out there. Dear sir or madam, I recently purchased a 8.25 inch Shun Deba. It is my third Shun, and up to now I have been very happy with them. The Deba is beautiful, and I was happy with it for the first week. Then it chipped for no apparent reason. I am really careful with all my knives, hand washing, etc. I fixed the blade and it chipped again. Once more I took the chip out and resharpened but I am not satisfied that it will not chip from normal usage again. I have a lot of experience with swords (tameshigiri, sharpening, and polishing), and I find that when a blade chips for no apparent reason it will continue to do so, there is a problem with the metallurgy. Please advise me what to do about this. I live in Molalla and could come to Kershaw personally. Either that or you are completely ignorant of how to sharpen a knife, maybe this explains why you wouldn't replace a clearly defective knife. I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau because of your refusal to replace the knife after telling me if I brought it in it would be resolved, but after receiving a worthless dull knife that you worked on I feel I must file a yelp review as well. I chipped off the tip on my Kershaw leek, so I called up Kershaw customer service and they advised me that they do fix these type of repairs by replacing the blade @ a $10 fee/charge in which I was completely ok with as I was the one that caused the damage. So, I figured well I live Oregon and not far from their corporate office that I'd just swing by and have it the blade replaced. When I showed up the lady advised my that as a courtesy the 1st blade replacement would me replaced for free, I did advise her I was aware of the $10 blade replacement fee/charge and about 10 minutes of waiting patiently the lady brought my leek back out to me with a new blade free of charge! My overall experience was great and I am a satisfied customer/consumer! However, one little detail I noticed when the blade was changed that I wasn't to fond of and yes the little things do matter was that the blade no longer had been etched/painted with the Kershaw logo information as the original blade was but the lady did reassure me it was the same steel used just without the markings. I have been a knife collector for over 40 years, and the Leek assisted opening knife is functional art: it is beautiful, sharp as an ex-wifes tongue; smooth as silk to open; and a fine piece of equipment. Brought them about $1500 (11 knives) worth of their cutlery, to restore "factory edge". 3 knives were returned with an edge that was significantly less sharp. One knife was rendered less than useful by the aggressive grinds they applied, and they opted to not fix a significant chip in a serrated blade (was told it wouldn't hurt the efficacy of the blade...ummmm, BS.) WAS given the option of returning the knives for "re-evaluation" by whichever, non-knife using "brah" they had hired from a local car dealership. service professional? Pfft!!! Anyone would look at them and see the issue. I'm unimpressed. BTB, check eBay for over 25 pieces of shun cutlery at deeeeep discounts. I don't want them in my knife case! If you're gonna buy Japanese steel (it's the best) buy it from Japanese folks, NOT kershaw. They may have started the trend but certainly haven't maintained the pride or integrity that should back the company' reputation. read more

And Kershaw's customer service is equally amazing: I've sent in my chef's knife twice for their complimentary sharpening service and both times I've received it back in less than a week! About a week ago i talked to Jeremy in the warranty dept., who seemed eager to help? So I made no haste to send them my Leek (blackwashed). The reason is that the tip of the leek tapers to a very needle like point which I presume would ultimately break. Week went by and on 7/28/2014 I contacted the warranty department and spoke to Steve. Steve familiarized himself with me and my complaint and in short said we can't do anything for you. I mention that the leek that Wal-Mart sells, looks thicker. He then maintained his position. I then asked to speak to the manager Jeremy who reiterated what Steve said and told me that the used a more aggressive grind and what I was looking at was an "Optical Illusion". This is a first for me. I am Sad and disgusted at lack of attentiveness zero accountability. I f you change the grind then man up and advertise that it different.
