I have been going to BVC for years. Dr. Maas was always wonderful. He is rarely there anymore and it does not seem as though he cares about how some of the vets working there are incompetent. He did not return a message from me to discuss one of the worst cases of euthanasia I have ever endured and I have witnessed many being a vet tech for 15 years. I will no longer recommend this clinic to others. My vet tech career started at BVC in 1977 when Dr. McKim and Edwards ran it. Too bad the compassion of years ago is gone. read more

Our first visit to this vet was good - Dr Maas was a 4 out of 5 stars with his care of Sunshine our canary. We did get one follow up call after getting treatment etc but after that as Sunshine began exhibiting problems and we called to get advice on how to proceed, the office staff and vets completely dropped the ball. Two weeks of calls to the vet, many promised calls back and no responses whatsoever. This was also after sending pics and lots of notes on our canary's condition since owner was unable to drive to the vet for another visit. Which hardly seemed necessary anyway since another round of meds may have been all that was needed. Well we would never know since not one single person followed up. Sunshine got worse and died just a few days ago. The vet racked up over $100 in profit so guess they made out just fine. We would suggest nobody takes their pet to Bend Vet Clinic. They are very unorganized and the vets are not really interested in following up with their "patients". But they will take your money!!! read more

I wouldn't take a dead rat there for disposal. One year the vet (Lauren Stayer) found dental issues with my cat but didn't bother to tell me, only notated it in the records. It wasn't until my cat's following yearly exam that they decided she needed dental surgery. That's when I got wise to them and got a copy of my cat's medical records and found that they let the problem go a year. Lots more money, my cat was in pain and lost teeth. The staff there is a joke too. The entire lot there isn't worth my spit. The 'office manager' was out of her league. She should be working at McDonalds. read more

BOOOOOO!! I would give zero stars if I could. BVC was by far the worst veterinary clinic I have been to. Our poor kitty suffered a fracture at the neck of his femur after a bad landing jumping down from his cat tree. Although we had never been to BVC before, we took him in as they were able to get us in quickly and we did not want our little guy to suffer any longer than necessary. Unfortunately, everything about our visit was horrible. The clinic was chaotic and our poor kitty was terrified. I had filled out our intake paperwork online hours before our appointment but the clinic had not received it by the time we got there and I had to fill it out again. We ended up waiting outside in the cold in order to get our kitty away from the craziness. We waited over 45 minutes past our appointment time to be called into our room. Once in the room we waited another 20 minutes for the Vet to make it in to see us. Even though BVC had received our kitty's x-rays from the Animal Emergency Center, the Vet still made him walk on is broken leg so they could see it for some reason. They seemed rushed and we got the impression They wanted us to leave as soon as possible. They spent about 5 minutes with us, and I was not able to ask all of the questions I had about the procedure required to fix the fracture. We left after the appointment, assuming that a "consultation" would be free of cost. However, after arriving home I received a call from BVC. The woman who had been working at the front desk told me in a rude, snotty tone "turns out we left without paying." We ended up paying $52 for the horrible experience our kitty had. read more

My dog was injured by another dog playing ball and a portion of her upper jaw was smashed in and she was bleeding profusely. On a Sunday, Mother's Day to be exact. I called several other vets in the area, including one of the emergency clinics and nobody was able to help. I called Bend Veterinary Clinic and initially they said they were busy but after I told them I was having a hard time finding help, they were willing to work us in. We are not from this area so knew nothing of this clinic prior to calling for help. Even with the changes due to Covid, they were able to provide great customer service, quality care, and efficiency. They took great care of our dog, made sure to communicate everything that was going on step by step and in good time. Dr. Maas was very helpful and a pleasure to speak with. As a veterinary professional, I felt like my dog was in good hands and she is doing great. I am most grateful for the care we received. read more

I brought my dog to Bend Vet. Clinic when new to town. Health issues of my senior dog forced her to be euthanized, which is always difficult and painful at best. However, having my dog euthanized at BVC was a nightmare. She was given a weak sedative and so stumbled around in a confused state, banging into furniture and the wall for close to 15 minutes while I tried to console and shelter her. It was only after requesting a second sedative that she fell 'asleep' and was then euthanized. We were ignored by the staff until I requested a second sedative. It was obviously horrible for my dog to experience. She was disconsolate. It was a nightmare for me to witness and mitigate the sloppy 'medical' treatment. In the past I had to have another animal euthanized due to cancer tumors in her lungs. Luckily for my dog, the procedure was quick: my poor friend went to sleep within seconds of the sedative injection with no turmoil, stumbling, or banging into furniture. And was soon in peace. I know there is no excuse for the traumatic and sloppy practice my dog received at BVC. Euthanasia of a beloved pet is a mean and hard choice we are forced into sometimes... between a rock and a hard place, but the procedure I had to watch my dog endure at Bend Vet Clinic continues to haunt me. I am so deeply sorry I took her there and can never make it up to her. The insincerity of the staff only made it worse. Don't bring your animal friend here. read more

Dr Byron Maas at Bend Veterinary Clinic has helped me through the years when I had pet chickens. I now have a dwarf Netherlands lop eared rabbit. He is the best veterinarian around. So knowledgeable with so many types of animals including exotics. My rabbit was sick and not doing well. With the knowledge he has he has now taught me how to be a better rabbit owner. After having had chickens for 23 years I now am understanding how to better care for my little rabbit buddy. He's also very fair on the pricing of his services. His staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and a pleasure to have help me out. I couldn't think of a more responsible or better place to take my animals to but Bend Veterinary Clinic, I highly recommend them they are also very compassionate. I am so disappointed in this Vet office. I brought my dog in for a breathing issue. A day later and $1200 later they had absolutely no answer for me they wanted to cut a hole in her neck and place a tube to make her breath. I took her to a different vet and within 10 min they knew exactly what was wrong with her and said that Bend Vet Clinic did a poor job and should have been able to diagnose her. Her symptoms were obvious. I will never set foot in this office again. And will make sure that all of my friends and family never put there pets lives at risk by letting that Incompetent vet anywhere near them. I am so disappointed. This used to be a competent clinic. read more

The vet couldnt decide between three different things that they thought our dog might have, and instead of initiallly just offering to give antibiotics which treats two of the three( the other being kidney disease which there isn't a cure for) they wanted to do this extravagant expensive testing. We went to our primary vet the next day and upon examination she was able to identify what was going on, sent us home with iv fluids to flush her kidneys which bend bend didn't want to do. The initial vet exam for 65 isn't bad but be careful every test they want to run is super spendy and not all are needed. I don't feel like the vet knew enough to make an educated diagnosis without running a million tests to tell him what it was. read more

I have used this clinic for quite a few years with several pets in the past. I think Dr. Maas is a good vet but he isn't there very often anymore. I always had to wait for a long time just to get checked or simply picking up meds. They seem very driven on profit margins and for exams and meds. Prices are high and their bottom line seems to be driven not as much by pet care but by how much money they can make. The waiting area is small and crowded. I too, like previous reviewer, had to have my beloved senior dog put to sleep there. I am disappointed in the quality of care because I believe caring for pets has been replaced by how much money can be made. Too much to go into detail here but I won't be going back. We took our dog into Bend Vet Clinic for a tarter cleaning based on an ad ($189) in the Bend Smart Shopper! We learned that in addition to the ad price we were looking at an additional charge of $40 for a first time visit. Maybe something they should put on the ad! During the visit we were informed that several additional charges could occur if we elected to have them preformed. They said that our 12 yr old dog had a baby tooth that should be pulled and one or two "I" teeth that they would probably want to remove. We instructed them NOT to pull any teeth without first calling us. Our dog had been seen at two other Vet offices, one in Hillsboro and one in Eugene and both offices said our Dog's teeth were in really good condition and they wouldn't recommend any work. Both of these other visits occurred within the past 18 months prior to yesterday's visit at BVC. We left our dog with them with the understanding our dog would be ready around 1:00 PM. Needless to say, we got a call from BVC around 3:00 at which time they informed us our dog had two teeth pulled. When we asked why we were not called and how much our bill was now, they stated they were not told they needed to call and were not sure how much they bill would be. We arrived at the clinic at 4:45 and reviewed our bill to see that four teeth had been pulled. We informed them that they had said over the phone the that only two teeth were pulled and now we learn that four were pulled. The staff stated, "no the notes in the computer only shows three teeth were pulled". We showed them the line item on the bill that showed four, and they could not explain the difference. We paid our bill which was $50 more than anticipated when we left that morning. When we saw our dog, we learned from the technician was that four teeth were in fact pulled but that they didn't need to remove them surgically so the cost wasn't as much. It should be noted they waived the cost for the actual extraction seeing how the mix up was due to their poor communication on their end. We arrived home and checked our dog to see that almost all of his upper front teeth had been removed. Unbelievable! We are so unhappy with our experience that we will never return and are letting others know of our experience. One final note: As we were leaving, another customer was at the counter and we overheard the customer say, " oh you had to pull teeth" . Wow! read more

Best veterinary clinic in bend by far. I have taken my animals to 3 other vet clinics that didn't have the care, knowledge, compassion and technology that bend vet clinic does. Dr. Miller came to my home and let my 15 year old kitty go with peace and comfort. Dr. Byron and Stayer have seen my dogs multiple times for dentals and check ups, through kennel cough and anxiety. Each and every visit was welcomed with amazing care, exceptional customer service, and the lowest prices. I would never take my animals to another vet. They are open 7 days a week and even take emergencies late in the day because they understand the emergency clinic is so expensive. I have been going here now for 2 years. The techs are professional and the front desk people are extremely nice and care about what you have to say, they check up after every procedure to make sure my dogs are doing OK, and even send me reminders for my next appointment. I took my dog to this clinic for a routine dental cleaning because they had a cheap price compared to another vet in town. Well, I found out why it was cheap; they did such a poor job my dog still had bad breath & dirty teeth. Later she developed a cough and i had her seen by another vet. Long story short, these guys dislodged a large piece of tartar and allowed my dog to inhale it, which ended up in her having to have a part of her lung removed! She almost died! Don't ever trust these people, they cut corners and can expect my lawsuit soon. read more

My first experience with Bend Veterinary Clinic was through High Desert Wildlife Rehabilitation. As a volunteer, I had assisted the founders with anesthesia and X-rays at BVC and was impressed that they shared those resources for the care of wildlife. Months later, I faced the hard decision of helping my 15 year old dog end her journey with cancer. I remembered BVC and called them, after researching testimonials about others who have been in the same situation and used this clinic. The stellar reviews were true. The receptionist who took my call was an angel. She talked me through the call with such compassion and thoughtfulness. The veterinarian and assistant, Bridget, who came to my home were compassionate, loving, sincere, and kind. I saw Bridget in a grocery store later that day and she gave me a hug- the very thing I needed. It takes special people to accompany grieving strangers through such a difficult moment and they exceeded my expectations. They took the time to assure me I was doing the right thing and I even received a card signed by the staff following our loss, without even being an established patient. Months later we adopted a dog from the humane society. He'd already had such a difficult life and was experiencing an extreme reaction to the rabies vaccination. Enter Dr. Maas. His vast experience with animals allowed him to diagnose our dog quickly and therefore helped heal our dog quickly. He saved us hundreds of dollars in unnecessary X-rays and further testing other vets may have ordered, not having the familiarity with such reactions that Dr. Maas did. I truly know he saved us a lot of money and a lot of time with his expertise. More importantly, he saved my dog from being in tremendous pain for even longer. He was extremely fair about the cost, as our dog needed surgery, and was honest and upfront through the whole experience so we had clear expectations. My absolute favorite thing about Dr. Maas is his sincerity. He loves these animals and when we are with him, I feel such ease knowing his background, knowledge, gentleness, and sincere interest are at the forefront of care for my animals. Recently we had another scare with our rescue pup and Dr. Maas was not in the office that day. While we already knew how much we appreciate him, having him away when we needed his calming energy really proved even more that he is the vet for us. I trust him with our pets implicitly and that is something rare to find. Thank you, Dr. Maas!! P.S. This office is open on Sundays. That in itself is an incredible perk! read more

We feel like we are incredibly lucky to have "landed" at Bend Veterinary clinic. The front desk personnel and the techs are efficient and a pleasure to deal with. Dr. Stayer is smart, easy to talk to and never tries to add on unnecessary tests or procedures. We trust her recommendations and decisions implicitly. When we've had urgent issues with our dogs the staff works hard to get us in quickly. I cannot imagine going anywhere else. read more

I have been to a few different vet clinics and I have always been very happy with BVC. They always treat my animals as if they were family and I like that they don't push products and help with professional advice without being pressured into a decision. The prices are reasonable and they are very understanding when money is tight. My male dog had to go through surgery about a year ago, which was an unexpected expense, but they were more than willing to help me out with a payment plan which meant a lot to me in a time that was stressful and scary. They also have amazing puppy packages as well! =) read more

We've been going to Bend Veterinary Clinic since we moved to Bend in 2001. We have received excellent care from an exceptional staff. Not one complaint in 14 years. During this time we had to have 1 dog and 1 cat put down - they were faithful companions for many years. They were part of our family and Dr. Byron helped us with this gut wrenching decision both times. He treated our pets like family members. VERY caring. We have 2 new kitties now and their care has been no exception. Wonderful staff and fair prices. I can't say more about Bend Vet and what a great business they run. read more

A great clinic to take your pet to! Well run, competent and compassionate.

My wife and I had an entirely different experience from the previous post. This review is not intended to criticize the veterinary knowledge at this clinic, as new patients we did not have time to assess this properly. What I will say is that both my wife and I were treated miserably in regards to their customer service, especially for NEW patients. We are both employed in the customer service industry and hold high standards. We chose this clinic based on multiple recommendations from friends and very good reviews. To say that we are disappointed would be a gross understatement. Our initial visit was for an ear infection in our 11 month old Lab/Collie mix. During this first visit, we were not even acknowledged when we walked through the door. While my wife took our pup to relieve himself, I waited while 2-3 existing patients were checked in and taken to exam rooms. I still had not been asked to fill out the new patient forms, and we arrived early as had been requested. After finally getting into an exam room, we received adequate attention and care. The infection cleared up fine. That night and the next day our dog had explosive diarrhea all our over house. He continued having liquid stool for another day, so we called Bend Vet Clinic back to schedule an appointment. We weren't sure if he had contracted something at the clinic, or eaten something bad as most dogs do. They denied he could have contracted anything from their clinic, which is understandable. I am not insinuating our dog did contract anything from the clinic, but it was at least possible. Anyhow, they ran some tests on a stool sample we had to bring to them, charged us and told us that we would hear back from them on the following Monday. Our appointment was on Saturday. We were not contacted by Bend Veterinary Clinic again. Today (Thursday) WE finally called THEM. There was no explanation as to why we had not been even so much as contacted. Turns out, they had not received the stool analysis back from the lab they had sent it off to. They put us on hold for 5-8 minutes, still with no explanation, while they looked up our results in an online database and reviewed them before returning to the phone. This has been one of the worst customer experiences we have ever had. We were unaware that patients are (apparently) required to do their own follow up at this clinic. We honestly feel that we wasted over $200 on barely adequate veterinary care and abysmal customer service. It was a truly awful experience and we will absolutely be taking our business somewhere else. If you choose to give the Bend Veterinary clinic a go, we sincerely hope you have a better experience than we did. read more

We took our Cavalier King Charles puppy there for his next round of puppy shots right after we got him from the out-of-state breeder, so he was already in their system when he suffered a horrific accident at home six weeks later when he and my grandson were running downstairs. My grandson tripped on him and they ended up in a heap at the bottom. Henry snapped his leg and was screaming in agony. We called enroute and they were literally waiting in the foyer for us when we got there. Long story short a specialist had to be called in because of the seriousness and location of the break. They could not have been nicer or more supportive. I received voluntary daily calls on Henry's progress and condition and they were equally supportive concerning the unexpected and considerable cost. Henry bounds in the door whenever we go there, greets everyone there like a long lost buddy, and in my view has received superlative care from a staff that adores him. Highly recommended. If not for them I would have lost my dog. read more

So it has taken us six months to get it together to write this review...We had our 17 yr old Parsons Jack Russell in to see Dr Maas for a tooth issue....He suggested surgery...... I was skeptical of putting him under at that age....I should have spoken up but we trusted Dr. Maas....So surgery it was and he took out five teeth......he had had teeth removed the previous year from Dr. Maas and this seemed very isolated (to ONE tooth) but nonetheless a big surgery ensued. It took Chester at least 8 days to recover from being put "under"....he really never seemed to recover.....about a month later he seem to be struggling, panting and agitated....so when we called the clinic they were closing and suggested we take Chester to the Emergency Clinic...he was in heart failure we were told...He stayed over night and the next morning the attending vet called us and told us "to come down, things were not looking good"....We rushed down (this was a Sat afternoon) and held Chester and said our goodbyes and let him go....We were so distraught that we wanted to go talk with Dr Maas just to confirm we had done the right thing etc etc.....we had no experience with the vets at the emergency clinic and we just needed assurance....The office( Dr. Maas's) was very busy that Sat late afternoon when we stopped by...we left our name and the receptionist said Dr. Maas would call us that night. Sunday morning, no call....so we were out and about so we swung by the office Sunday afternoon and a different receptionist said she would personally give him a note to call us....she actually asked the reason for our visit and was so sweet that she came out to the lobby to give us a hug...She assured us she would let him know....Sunday night...no call.....Monday day, Monday night.....NO CALL.....We were aghast !!!! We could not believe Dr Maas had not called given our efforts...what was he avoiding???? I was fuming...so much so I started to read some reviews about the clinic....EVERY REVIEW DEALING WITH TEETH WAS DREADFUL!!!!! Finally on Tuesday I called the office and explained the issue AND AGAIN I WAS TOLD HE WOULD GET THE MESSAGE AND CALL US!!!!! Tuesday night NO CALL. Wednesday I waited all day for sure expecting a call and NOTHING.....Wednesday 5:30 PM I couldn't take it anymore and I called the office AGAIN AND LOST IT WITH THE RECEPTIONIST...In her effort to calm me down she got Dr. Miller on the phone...I have never met Dr. Miller and she asked me tell her everything.....She was AMAZED THAT DR. MAAS had NOT YET CALLED US AFTER WE LOST CHESTER.....She was very very sorry for our loss, apologized for Dr Maas's behavior.....and I quote " I AM NOT EXCUSING HIS BEHAVIOR AT ALL BECAUSE WHAT HE HAS DONE IS NOT RIGHT AND I HOPE YOU WILL BRING YOUR OTHER PARSONS RUSSELL IN TO SEE ME IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO SEE DR. MAAS"......so this was Wednesday pm and guess who called me the next afternoon, Thursday....Dr Maas.....his excuse was he NEVER RECEIVED ANY OF THE MESSAGES, hand written notes etc from his staff....Totally couldn't accept that HE DROPPED THE BALL.....He blamed his staff.....Total coward and not very professional.....ENOUGH SAID read more
