    New Japanese restaurant as of April 2026 located in the Arts District. I don't feel educated enough to confidently say it's an Izakaya restaurant, but it does definitely feel Izakaya-Ish. I saw that some of their cooking includes the use of Binchotan charcoal. This place has a sleek interior and it's not huge so I feel like it's going to be hard to get a reservation during the busy times. Also, the entrance is on the backside of the building meaning the entrance is not on third street. It's located next to Wurstkuche (sp?). The menu has a good amount of variety and includes lots of proteins as well as vegetable based dishes. You can also order sake, beer, or a variety of cocktails. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. I made a midweek reservation for myself and some friends so it wasn't difficult to get a table. We ordered a bottle sake for the table and: - Kobujime ocean trout - Tamamiso eggplant - Ebi katsu sandwich (shrimp sando that was a special that evening) - Enoki tempura - Agedashi tomato - Moromi Caesar salad - Tiger prawns All the food was very beautifully presented and most importantly, delicious! I really like that Agadashi tomato and tempura, but really I enjoyed everything. I also like putting some of the leftover roe from the fish dish on the chips from the sandwich dish. We didn't have any room, but next time I would definitely wanna try the hambagu steak over rice. If I had one criticism, I would say the pacing of the dishes, came out a little too quickly. But it wasn't anything that took away from my enjoyment and I feel like that's something that will probably improve after they are open for a while. Just a great meal / experience overall and I'm a big fan of this place. I think it's a wonderful addition to the Arts District I was able to find parking pretty easily about a block away since this was a weeknight.

    Superlative izakaya. From the enoki tempura starter, miso cod on a stick, amazing eggplant in a bed of hot stones to chicken katsu sando w homemade chips and the citrus soba as a finale, everything was oishi. Props for front row showing of Argentina v Switzerland FIFA match as entertainment. Waitstaff and owner checked on us periodically so attention to detail and feedback on dishes were noted. Thank you for a great dining experience. I also liked my matcha lemonade as refreshment.

    Came here on a Sunday for dinner. We were the first ones there so service was amazing! Our server explained the menu to us and made quite a few suggestions. This place is great for a first date! Every food we received were made beautifully. To be honest I was not a fan of the pork belly tacos. It was more on the slimy side and not crispy. The saltiness and sweetness of the sauce did not go well for me. I would not order that one. The duck paired amazingly with the yuzu kosho sauce. The enoki mushroom tempura looked and tasted like fried onions. The cod was good but not great. The Japanese hamburger steak also paired very well with the yuzu koshu. I would say my top choices would be the hamburger steak on rice and the duck breast. Would I come back to eat? Only on special occasions and take people for their first time.

    Man it pains me to write this review. There's a lot to highlight that was great: the service was fantastic, the space is beautiful, the flavors were authentic and you can tell a lot of attention to detail went into the dishes. But there were some big misses too. But before all that, the vibe was a bummer. Peak Friday night hours and the place was pretty much dead. Really takes away from the experience. As for the food, we ordered a bunch of stuff and so many dishes were missteps. Driving home $250 poorer with not much to show for it lol. The dishes we got: 1. Tofu- very unique and beautifully presented. I would say it was a dish done well but just not for me. Very authentic flavors but just too intense for me. Personal preference though 2. Carpaccio- best dish of the night by far. Truly delicious in every way 3. Avocado salad- this is where things start going down hill. The avocado in an avocado salad was rock hard. To their credit, the kitchen took it back and made a new one with more ripe avocado but even still there were pieces here and there that weren't good. The salad had a nice flavor but if you're operating at this price point it's pretty egregious to have unripe avocado 4. Agedashi tomato- the flavor of the tomato was good and unique. The dough around it was soggy and gross. The temperature was lukewarm and unappealing 5. Crab croquet- this one was actually pretty good. Hot and crispy. Nice flavors. A little soupier than I like but definitely not a lowlight of the night 6. Enoki mushroom tempura- another solid dish. Not too greasy. Fun to eat 7. Trout- nice presentation but temperature was off again. Lukewarm 8. Miso cod- lukewarm, no nice char like on some photos I'd seen. Turns out they aren't doing their full genshi grill until they clear something up with the LA health dept so that was a huge bummer 9. Eggplant- not a fan We go to LA once a month and I spend eons agonizing over where to spend that precious night out. This was a big miss on almost all counts, and I'm mega bummed

    This was one of the best dining experiences we've had in recent memory. Despite coming on opening night, the entire service from start to finish went extremely smoothly and without any hiccups. If I had to nitpick on any one thing, it was that it took a while for some of the dishes to arrive; but that might have been because we kept adding more items throughout the dinner because we kept wanting to try more! The first thing you notice is the attention to detail here - the tableware used were all high quality and imported from Japan. We started with the carpaccio, house made tofu, crab croquette, and agedashi tomato. The kanpachi was fresh, and the kumquat added a welcome burst of acidity to the dish. The tofu had a texture similar to creme fraiche, and went well with all the pickles provided. The croquette contained a generous amount of crab meat, but the star of the show for me was the agedashi tomato - I felt that the sweet, salty, sour, umami of the tomato made a noticeable improvement over the traditional tofu. After we finished our starters, we started working on our grilled items - the eggplant, miso rice skewer w/ uni, miso black cod, pork shoulder, and lamb chop. The black cod was stellar, the pork shoulder was one of the most tender, juicy pieces of pork I've ever been able to sink my teeth into, and the lamb chops were seasoned and cooked to perfection, with the subtle binchotan charcoal adding a nice smoky flavor that wasn't overpowering. Finally, we finished with the citrus soba, which was delightfully refreshing - I just wish we had it earlier instead of at the end of the meal to pair with all the proteins from the grill. For dessert, we had the matcha tiramisu, apple wasabi sorbet, and kinako ice cream - not only were the sorbet and ice creams novel and unique, but also delicious at the same time. I would totally order those two items next time! We will be back to try the tiger prawns and wagyu which we somehow missed this time around. Thanks again to all the staff for such a wonderful experience!

Even if don't like seabass, you must try this one! it's buttery, perfectly charred and melts in your mouth. The prime beef is equally impressive: tender, packed with rich umami flavor, and cooked to perfection. For a larger dish, you can't go wrong with either the sea bass or blue crab hot pot. It's so rich and comforting, the fish is always perfectly cooked, and it's more than enough food for two people. Be sure to order a side of seaweed and make your own hand rolls at the table. The kabocha salad is also unexpectedly delicious and pairs well with the other indulgent items in this order. They recently moved next door and they may be overbooking themselves so expect to wait quite a while- even if you have reservations.

It was a great contrast to the Baja roll, which is cold and has crunchy elements to it. And the spider roll was one I didn't expect to like (my boyfriend wanted it), but ended up being my second favorite! It was confirmed that this role had soy sauce, so I refused the roll, and at first the manager/supervisor was able to rearrange my order to regular 6 hand rolls. The ankimo that wasn't touched by me I asked her if I should give to my peers instead of throwing the handroll in the trash. She said yes. After my 5th roll they asked if we want to order anything else. I said I am still missing one roll. And she said you had 5 and the ankimo. I said I didn't eat the ankimo. And she said your friends did .... So she charged me the extra one that was going to the trash because I didn't want to waste food ... Throughout our conversation, it was not confirmed that the handroll I gave to my friend was supposed to be a part of the six hand rolls upgrade that the manager had offered me. It would've been best if she gave me some clarification so that I was not kept waiting for an extra handroll that I was able to eat due to my medical condition. I thought they would have been understanding, but unfortunately, I was wrong
