I feel like this might be a "if you know, you know" kind of place. I found them while scrolling through some "need to go" spots when visiting LA. I ordered about 5 signature hand rolls and shared them with my husband. I honestly can't remember which rolls I ordered but i do remember that I enjoyed all of them lol. The shop is small and has limited space, I wouldn't come here for an intimidate date but it was comfy and cozy. Their parking situation kind of sucks as its only street parking but what can you do, it's LA! Additionally, the person who helped me check out was friendly so that's a plus on all sides. :)

WOW WOW WOW!! Temaki society blew me away. Definitely not your classic hand-roll spot. We got the 88 couple and it was the right amount. At first it doesn't seem like that much but these hand rolls are stuffed. Definitely a splurge but worth it!

I got the temaki five set and CUT roll. The menu and rolls are definitely very creative. Service was just okay, but rolls did come out pretty fast. The space is small tiny and next to a bar, music is pretty loud. Pretty nice that they have wifi!

First off, 10/10 for music selection. Love a casual spot bumping 2000s R&B! This little spot is in the front entrance of a bar so you have to show ID to get in. I got the 5 handroll combo. I think I would stick with the 4 handroll combo next time, as the crab handroll didn't do much for me. Or I would go up to the Temaki 5 because that looks like it has the best fish options. These are really good sized handrolls, I was sufficiently full with just 4. They give you lots of protein. The salmon, scallop, and spicy tuna rolls were all great. The blue crab didn't have enough flavor for me, and the one on the middle just didn't hold up to following the scallop roll for me. But i definitely would come back to try other options! The food came out very quickly once I got my order in. They even have a little trash can for each table for the plastic wrap that you take off from the nori. I walked here so I'm not certain what the parking is like, but just know this is downtown LA so there are lots, but street parking may be hard to find.

These are the best hand rolls in LA, they are so unique, the fish is extremely fresh, and they do not skimp out on the protein. My favorites were the chopped salmon, uni, and the cut roll. I also recommend giving the tostadas a try, the sashimi slices on there are massive and it is super fresh. The service here is so friendly and nice. I recommend parking at the Grand Central market, it is just right next-door.

Cute little hand roll spot next to grand central market. Self serve water and soy sauce were easily accessible, and the restaurant was clean. We were the first to order for the day, and our hand rolls came out in less than 10 minutes. Comparable prices to other hand rolls came spots, but I feel like their portion of fish was more generous than others. The combo of 5 rolls with blue crab was the way to go. My favorites were the blue crab and salmon! The plastic wrap on the nori was easy to remove without breaking the seaweed, and kept each roll from getting soggy. They even gave us a cute trash can to organize the wrapper trash. I would come back and treat myself with this meal for a solid work lunch.

I love me a good handroll bar and Temaki Society beyond met my expectations. This little eatery is located right next to a bar (The Grayson) and is open during select periods of the day, so make sure you double-check their hours before venturing over. There's inside and outside seating, including some bar counter seats, but it's a small space and can get packed during peak hours. I happened in during lunch and had no trouble finding a spot, though plenty of people order for takeout, as well. They pack the nori/seaweed separate from the rice and fish, which keeps the seaweed fresh and crispy until you're ready to enjoy. And such generous portions of fish! YUM. The price for a 5-roll set (scallop, blue crab, chopped yellowtail, chopped salmon and spicy tuna) came out to ~$30, which isn't bad at all. Some people may be able to share a 5-roll set, but I had it all to myself and I regret n o t h i n g. Easy to pay via card or tap to pay. They give you a little trashcan to stash your plastic wraps, which I thought was so cute. I didn't know where to put everything once I was done, so I dropped it off at the front and they didn't seem to mind. The staff members were pleasant, efficient and personable. You can find way more than handrolls here, which was a surprise to me. I took pictures of the menu to help others who may want to explore options other than handrolls (though I definitely recommend the handrolls). Parking can be rough. I circled around for street parking to no avail, and then resorted to Grand Central Market's horribly tight garage. $5.50 for the first hour, not a far walk at all to Temaki Society. May this business live long and prosper in DTLA - I will be back soon!

Fantastic handrolls in busy dtla. Walked to the restaurant for a work lunch. Ordered at the counter - there's a couple different combos you can choose from. Went with the regular 5 roll combo. There weren't many seats inside, so sat at the outside patio. The handrolls were pretty legit - i def appreciated that the nori was shielded off by some plastic - keeps the integrity of the seaweed's crispiness intact. Was very filling overall - def would recommend!

We got the 5 hand roll and Golden Uni & CUT (Caviar, Uni, Tuna). The rolls are all so delicious and they have their own flavor profile going. The seaweed is crispy and crunches with each bite. I really really enjoyed my food during my visit here. The only part that I was sad about was the difficulties of parking, but I'm going to have wear my big adult pants and suck it up because the hand rolls are worth it!

    Alexandra R.

My new favorite hand roll bar. My friend and I both ordered the 5 hand rolls for $35, and it was absolutely worth it. The yellowtail ended up being our favorite bite -- I really appreciated that it was a generous, clean slice of fish rather than finely chopped or mashed like you get at so many places. Each roll had its own personality, and the seasonings were thoughtful and well-balanced without overpowering the fish. Everything tasted intentional. I'll definitely be making this a go-to every time I'm in DTLA.

The food quality , ambiance and service: The spot is small so it's not the best for larger groups. It's located in the same building as the bar but when you get inside it's right before you enter the bar.

absolutely phenomenal! I love how this handroll place stands out with its bold flavored assortment of offerings crafted with different mix in ingredients from serrano, cilantro, pickled wasabi, vietnamese pickled carrots, to aioli crunch garlic and more. I tried the chili yellowtail, tuna taku, and the banh mi. All three were amazing and packed with fresh fish. The rolls are quite sizable and full of flavor too. The presentation is beautiful and they certainly don't skimp on quality ingredients. Every bite is full of flavor and will have you wanting another bite. Will def be coming back to try more especially the uni roll!

I can't eat wasabi and I see that a lot of the handrolls have pickled wasabi in it. Is it possible to order them without the pickle wasabi or is it mixed in?

Of course! You can absolutely order the hand rolls without the pickled wasabi. Just let us know when you order

Can we order to-go since not all in the same party are over 21years old?

Yes, you can order to-go if not everyone is over 21. I just took my order over to the Grand Central market to eat after getting a drink there.

We started with the oyster sampler featuring selections from Hollywood, MD; Pope's Bay, VA; Buzzards Bay, MA; Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Wellfleet, MA. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and served with great accompaniments. We always order oysters when visiting seafood restaurants because freshness is so important to us, and Water Grill absolutely delivered. A must-order. The grilled Spanish octopus, served with fingerling potatoes, Niçoise olives, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and olive oil, was very good (3.5/5). We're fairly picky when it comes to octopus, and while we would have liked a bit more char, it was still among the better versions we've had. The New Zealand king salmon sushi with avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and white soy-lime vinaigrette was fresh, clean, and delicious (5/5). While not particularly unique, it was executed perfectly. The crispy calamari with harissa aioli and cilantro-mint sweet chili sauce was also well done (4/5)--crispy, not oily, and very enjoyable. Calamari is another dish we frequently order, and this version met our standards, even if it wasn't especially memorable. The standout among the appetizers was the New Zealand pink bream ceviche with cilantro, red peppers, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were incredibly fresh (5/5). We only added a touch of salt. This is another must-order dish. The Peruvian bay scallops with pistachio citrus pesto were somewhat underwhelming (3/5), and the Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts (3/5) didn't leave much of an impression either. The lobster itself was excellent (5/5)--sweet, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The accompanying coleslaw wasn't our favorite, but we'd happily order the lobster again and probably go for a larger portion next time. The absolute star of the evening was the Massachusetts black sea bass. It was easily one of the best dishes of the night and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever had at a restaurant (5/5). Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert featuring chocolate cake, vanilla cake, oatmeal cake, and ice cream. It was thoughtful, delicious, and a wonderful ending to the meal (5/5). Overall, Water Grill earns a well-deserved 5/5. The quality and freshness of the seafood were outstanding, the beachfront ambiance was beautiful, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a must-try seafood destination in Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable experience--we truly appreciated it.

Uno and scallops so fresh. Scallops are in a ceviche-style sauce under those beautiful sea urchins. Tostada de atún - also very good. Everything chopped perfectly. Not too much heat - some red onion in there. Ceviche of yellowtail - a big portion! Enough for more than two people for sure. Light fry, crema, tomato, lime Kanpachi collar (grilled)- comes on a big plate with tomatoes, avocado, beans and rice in a little bowl on side, fresh blue corn tortillas - my partner said this was his favorite thing. I went with a martini and they ask how you like it so I got mine with gin, an olive and a twist. It was made perfectly and it was so good! We ordered 8 oysters from the specials menu (they have it written inside on chalkboard), the plate of frites, smoked trout dip, and a tuna aguachile dish they had on their specials menu. It was a small table but we got everything to fit because they smartly have a holder to lift the tray above the table which helps. Everything looked beautiful when it came out! The oysters were great, salty but not overly briney. The smoked trout dip with the roe on top was delicious, the buttery ritz crackers pair with it so nicely. I would get that again for sure. The aguachile was good as well, it had quite the kick to it too. And honestly fries are fries, yes, but these fries were maybe some of the best ones I've ever had. Perfectly fried to a crisp and salty. I'll dream of those fries. And such a perfect portion of them for sharing with a friend. I loved our time here!

I think the sauce was a little too light for me as well, but overall still a solid dish. Cioppino - Also a little lighter in flavor and I think just smaller in size in comparison to price.
