Not only were they so impressed but they loved the vibe and ambiance of the spot! They even mentioned that it perfectly captured the trendy Downtown LA feel. What really stood out to all of us was how fresh and flavorful everything was! The fish tasted flavorful and fresh and melted in your mouth. The portions were generous especially in comparison to other handroll spots in LA. Every handroll was packed with quality ingredients, balanced flavors, and that perfect ratio of fish to rice. You could tell a lot of care goes into every item on the menu. Everything that came out looked so aesthetic and beautiful. Since Temaki Society is located inside The Grayson Bar, it made for the perfect start to our night out because we could enjoy cocktails alongside our handrolls! Temaki is like a Japanese taco or open-faced hand roll. We got the Temaki Five and the Lobster Spring which had peanut sauce, hoisin sauce, spring onion, sriracha and crispy onion. The seared salmon and hamachi were by far the best temaki. I'd order just these if you're a fan of sashimi. The salmon was juicy and flavorful and the hamachi was at peak flavor. I highly recommend these followed by the scallop, chopped salmon and the spicy tuna. Note that this place is located in downtown LA and it isn't the most polished area where parking can be challenging, however if you are in the area and visiting the Broad art museum this is a short walk away for a tasty bite! read more

I feel like this might be a "if you know, you know" kind of place. I found them while scrolling through some "need to go" spots when visiting LA. I ordered about 5 signature hand rolls and shared them with my husband. I honestly can't remember which rolls I ordered but i do remember that I enjoyed all of them lol. The shop is small and has limited space, I wouldn't come here for an intimidate date but it was comfy and cozy. I appreciate that they have the seaweed covered so it's still crispy whenever I get to my handroll. I ordered the signature set, and some of the toppings were not spread out evenly. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Handrolls were good overall. I'm someone who likes being able to choose my combination, so I wish they had more flexibility in their menu. I think I would stick with the 4 handroll combo next time, as the crab handroll didn't do much for me. Or I would go up to the Temaki 5 because that looks like it has the best fish options. These are really good sized handrolls, I was sufficiently full with just 4. They give you lots of protein. The salmon, scallop, and spicy tuna rolls were all great. The blue crab didn't have enough flavor for me, and the one on the middle just didn't hold up to following the scallop roll for me. But i definitely would come back to try other options! The food came out very quickly once I got my order in. They even have a little trash can for each table for the plastic wrap that you take off from the nori. These are the best hand rolls in LA, they are so unique, the fish is extremely fresh, and they do not skimp out on the protein. My favorites were the chopped salmon, uni, and the cut roll. I also recommend giving the tostadas a try, the sashimi slices on there are massive and it is super fresh. The service here is so friendly and nice. We were the first to order for the day, and our hand rolls came out in less than 10 minutes. Comparable prices to other hand rolls came spots, but I feel like their portion of fish was more generous than others. The combo of 5 rolls with blue crab was the way to go. My favorites were the blue crab and salmon! The plastic wrap on the nori was easy to remove without breaking the seaweed, and kept each roll from getting soggy. I love me a good handroll bar and Temaki Society beyond met my expectations. This little eatery is located right next to a bar (The Grayson) and is open during select periods of the day, so make sure you double-check their hours before venturing over. There's inside and outside seating, including some bar counter seats, but it's a small space and can get packed during peak hours. I happened in during lunch and had no trouble finding a spot, though plenty of people order for takeout, as well. They pack the nori/seaweed separate from the rice and fish, which keeps the seaweed fresh and crispy until you're ready to enjoy. And such generous portions of fish! YUM. The price for a 5-roll set (scallop, blue crab, chopped yellowtail, chopped salmon and spicy tuna) came out to ~$30, which isn't bad at all. Some people may be able to share a 5-roll set, but I had it all to myself and I regret n o t h i n g. Easy to pay via card or tap to pay. They give you a little trashcan to stash your plastic wraps, which I thought was so cute. I didn't know where to put everything once I was done, so I dropped it off at the front and they didn't seem to mind. The staff members were pleasant, efficient and personable. You can find way more than handrolls here, which was a surprise to me. I took pictures of the menu to help others who may want to explore options other than handrolls (though I definitely recommend the handrolls). Parking can be rough. I circled around for street parking to no avail, and then resorted to Grand Central Market's horribly tight garage. $5.50 for the first hour, not a far walk at all to Temaki Society. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed my experience here. I visited this restaurant for a relaxed dinner, not expecting too much. I've never been super impressed by a handroll spot in LA until I tried Temaki Society. The interior is really small: there's only a few tables. Interestingly, you have to show your ID to get in. I think it's because Temaki Society is directly connected to a bar. Temaki Society's menu is pretty small, and they offer sets of 4 or 5 handrolls. This place's handrolls were truly the best I've had in LA. I loved how each handroll's seaweed was encased in a plastic wrapping that you remove when you eat. It kept the seaweed nice and crispy, and they give you an adorable mini trash can to toss the wrappings into. I tried the 4 piece handroll set and was blown away with each topping. I feel like a lot of handroll places are quite stingy with the amount of fish, but Temaki Society absolutely packs each handroll with tons of fish. The price was not cheap, but I felt like I was getting my money's worth with each handroll. I absolutely loved the scallop handroll. Drove three hours from San Diego just to check out Temaki Society and it was very good! The staff were super nice and made us feel really welcome. The chef even came over to show us how to unwrap each handroll so the nori stays crisp and explained the little touches he puts into every roll. After we finished eating, he gave us a tour of the bar and even showed us the two-level speakeasy, which was such a fun hidden gem. There were Bar seats and few small tables inside. It's easy to miss because it's located by the entrance of Grayson Bar and they check your id upon entering. Decent overall, but it didn't overtake my top 2 hand roll spots (Kazu Nori and ROL). The portions are very generous and the service is good. I just feel like they aren't super delicately made in comparison. Because the temakis have so much filling, it starts getting a little messy. I got the 5 handroll combo and swapped out the spicy tuna for another crab (since that one usually is my favorite at other spots). I would say the salmon was my favorite here! And the crab and yellowtail weren't as flavorful as I was expecting. I think 4 temakis would've been the perfect amount for me since the portions are large. The plastic wrapped around the seaweed is nice as a concept and good in theory since the rolls can be made all at once and it retains the crisp. But the removal process either breaks apart the rice OR it doesn't. And for the ones that held its shape, the rice seemed slightly over packed together like an onigiri instead of sushi. The hand rolls I tried are delicious albeit pricey. I uploaded the menu from Aug 2025 with updated prices. The golden uni hand roll is a star because of the huge and fresh pieces of SB uni. At $24 each, it's a splurge. The restaurant was also offering a special on the CUT roll (caviar, uni and tuna and uni)-buy one get one free at $19 for a roll (Aug 14th was last day). It was so delicious. The piece of tuna was generous and topped off with a smaller piece of delicious uni. I enjoyed the brightness from the shiso leaf added to the two varieties of rolls I tried. It takes a little while to get your food because they are made to order and meticulously assembled. The chef kindly came and showed me how to eat it without making a mess which I greatly appreciated! The hand roll combos would definitely make for a more affordable and filling meal. I will try one of those next time but I'm not sure when that'll be because the parking situation was challenging as most of DTLA appears to be. I did get lucky with a metered spot adjacent to the entrance but worry it'll be harder next time.
