The santo tiradito is a great dish with fresh hamachi and yuzu flavors. Their Devil roll also tasted very clean with a nice spicy crunch from the jalepeno. The 5 nigiri set was unimpressive, not bad but it wasn't anything special, but it was the most expensive out of the three dishes we ordered. The staff were definitely efficient, as we got seated right away on a Saturday night. There's great mood lighting inside and breezy outdoor seating too. I appreciate how often workers tended to the outdoor tables too.

I love Santo and the service y'all... sweetest staff!! Sissy that works there is always the best!! love her. Missy was great last night she's new and amazing. the food was so fresh and flavorful and i tried a mochi dessert for the first time and it was so good, wow!! the vibes here are very community friendly and everyone ends up outside talking and a great place to meet new friends.

Super cute sushi spot in Silverlake! Parking is difficult as usual but this place is worth the trouble. We got our starter, the rockshrimp, last for some reason but it was worth the wait. It has a nice kick to it. The nigiri sets are a great way to try different nigiri without committing to one. The seared o'toro was good but I probably won't be ordering it again. I liked that it was seared but didn't like that one side was warm and the other side was cold when I ate it.

Santo is a cute Mexican sushi fusion spot in Silverlake with a unique take on the classics. My roll was traditional but topped with a ton of cilantro, making it really appealing. I also had the 10 piece set, which unfortunately comes with one avocado piece and one mushroom piece. They should nix those and add more fish. Honestly, I didn't love 5/10 pieces. The choco nigiri was an experience and def worth a try. The wagyu flame handroll was pretty cool too, although I didn't taste it. Service was mid. Everyone was beyond nice but I had to prompt them for everything. I still recommend trying Santo because of the unique experience. I've been to many sushi places and I like what they are doing. The fusion twist here is very LA in the best way. I hope the set gets more bold to showcase what this place is really made of.

This place is knocking it out of the park. I would give Santo 4.5 stars. The sushi is incredible with flavor profiles you don't get from other sushi restaurants. That Mexico City influence is on point! After a couple of bites my friend and I knew this would fast become a go to sushi spot for us. Love the location along Sunset in Silver Lake. Our server was super nice, he was a little hard to find at times but that's because of the sidewalk seating which is the little social scene outside. Where you normally get the more formal sushi service experience which is very attentive, Santo servers are definitely younger and a little laid back giving it that hipster vibe which I'm sure is why they attract the younger crowd outside.

Cute hipster spot in Silverlake with a sushi bar and sidewalk seating. Service was fine. The dishes were good, but it didn't stand out enough for me to want to come back, esp from West Hollywood with there being so many sushi spots already around me. Also, I am not sure if it's just me, but their soy sauce was particularly salty.

Absolute perfection!! This restaurant is fairly small but packs a powerful punch when it comes to their menu. They have sushi bar seating, a couple of window seats, and outdoor seating as well. We had a late afternoon reservation, but walk-ins are also welcome. I started with the Little Sumo sake and ordered seven different nigiri, each with its own distinct flavor. The staff was super friendly and the vibe felt very refreshing. Can't wait to visit again and try more items!

otoro hand roll & hamachi hand roll... both r great but the otoro really stood out

Restaurant wasn't busy coz we went right when they opened. Host was friendly & welcoming... and let us pick our seat. He also took our orders and food came out quickly and fresh. We enjoyed everything we ordered.

Wow! By far one of my favorite places in LA to get sushi! There is outdoor seating and the sushi bar! Definitely recommend coming for lunch! The chef really does a great job of bringing out all the flavors as listed! Definitely get this seared Toro! As it was one of my favorite! Everyone here is super friendly and sweet and I really appreciated the server, giving us the right recommendations for our order! Definitely will be back again!

I always pass by this spot in Silverlake and finally decided to give it a try. They have both bar seating and tables, and we chose to sit outside to enjoy the nice night. This spot serves sushi with some Mexican inspired flavors, which sounded interesting. Here's what I ordered: Nigiri: Hamachi Choco, Akami , Chu Toro , Otoro , Flame Seared Uni , Salmon Yuzu Other items: Unagi Handroll Chu Toro Tostada Hamachi Santo Tiradito Sashimi I have to say I actually enjoyed every piece. Everything tasted super fresh and the seasoning and style made each bite delicious. My favorites were anything toro, the flame seared uni was amazing, the Hamachi Choco sushi was fire, and the hamachi tiradito sashimi was so good we ordered it three times. Overall, a pretty solid sushi spot in Silverlake. It is on the pricey side, not gonna lie, but the quality was there. I'd come back, just probably not in a rush. More of a treat yourself kind of spot.

Came here last night for dinner and it was delicious, everything we ordered was great. We sat outside , for sure small sushi bar seating and a couple bar style seats inside so we opted for outside it's a busy area so lots of people on the street where the outside seating is but we enjoyed it. Service was friendly and fast. Would come again.

    Hikari N.

You definitely want to get a reservation here! A very small and intimate space to eat some absolutely mouth watering food. We sat outside and were bumping backs with the guests at the table behind us but it was well worth it. Our server was great to talk with, gave us great recommendations and really took care of us. If you're feeling adventurous I HIGHLY recommend getting the hamachi choco. Our server described it to us like you're eating a store sushi and it's literally that! The hamachi melts in your mouth giving it a buttery taste and the charred cocoa powder on top gives it the nice smoky flavor. If you do get this, I recommend getting it towards the end of your meal as the taste does linger for a while.

This place was AMAZING! Enjoyed an early weeknight dinner with a girlfriend and we got to try a whole bottle of Californian sake. Tried the tuna crispy rice, hamachi hand roll that comes with a truffle dipping sauce, and salmon hand roll-salmon skin + roe in each bite. Also each got the wagyu nigiri that melts in your mouth as dessert. The space is small so it's nice to sit at the bar and get served there. Make sure to reserve on the website or resy to get a seat inside!

The shrimp and cauliflower tempura basically taste the same (sweet and sour). Def disappointed at this bc we expected the typical tempura without being soaked in the red sauce. Agedashi tofu was also just ok. It was kinda soggy even though we ate it immediately. The wasabi is good though and parking is $8 in the personal lot (more expensive bc we paid with card). I give it 5 stars because: - The generous portion and yummy sashimi and skewers. - Service is also fast and the waitress serving us was very friendly! - We brought few slices of cakes and there is no cake fee. Even if don't like seabass, you must try this one! it's buttery, perfectly charred and melts in your mouth. It's so rich and comforting, the fish is always perfectly cooked, and it's more than enough food for two people. Be sure to order a side of seaweed and make your own hand rolls at the table. The kabocha salad is also unexpectedly delicious and pairs well with the other indulgent items in this order. The parking was awful due to a Dodger game and we ended up utilizing the valet. Service was nice and friendly and very accommodating. There were some standout dishes that I'm still thinking of, let's get to that! Shaki Shaki Salad - 4 stars. This was a fresh and tasty cabbage salad. I personally think a different texture element would have added to this, like crushed peanuts or something, but did enjoy this. Spring Onion Tempura - 5+ stars. Delicious! Tasted like onion rings, but with a lighter texture. Bonus tip, request the bbq sauce like dipping sauce, it creates the perfect balance. Filet-o-fish Sandwich - 4 stars. This was really good, but was definitely improved with the bbq like sauce I had with the onion tempura. Yakinuku Steak - 5+ stars. I'm not a big steak person but thought this was excellent! Rich in flavor, great texture, and cooked perfectly! I need to have this in my life again very soon! They have tons of sake here, but I opted for a glass of Chenin Blanc which was excellent! I love the ambiance here, it reminded me of an Izakaya in Japan. Very elevated but casual and cozy at the same time. Well done Ototo, see you soon!

Usually we start with drinks, but it was all sake based, no cocktails, so we skipped this time around. But we started with the crudo and the karage. The crudo was very fresh, with just the right amount of citrus, and these little crunchy bits on top to give some texture to each bite. Just very good. The karage was just as good, very juicy chicken on the inside, not overly breaded on the outside, with a nice sauce on top. But the interesting part was the trout roe on top. You might not think chicken and trout roe work, but it have this pop of salinity, like a little ocean that added something different but good. For entrees we tried the burger, fish sandwich and chicken sandwich. The burger sounded tasty, almost like a very upscale Tommy burger, if you will. And while it was decent, it felt like something was missing with it. Just wasn't out favorite burger. The fish sandwich was decent as well with a beer battered cod and American cheese. But this, too, felt like something was missing with it. Finally, the chicken katsu sandwich. Again, perfectly cooked chicken, can't stress that which, so juicy inside but not to where it makes the batter moist. The tonkotsu sauce adds a little flavor but it was a generally good sandwich. Overall, nice place in LA. If you're feeling like saje, definitely go pass by as they have plenty of options. The crudo and karage were delicious, while the entree sandwiches weren't very memorable.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

Unfortunately the rice balls I wanted to try were sold out for the night- which how do you run out of something popular at a 7 PM dinner? Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. The restaurant does make it feel very intimate though. It seems like it is owned by mom-and-pop shop, which the mother was very attentive and welcoming of our visit! We ordered the cheese donkatsu and the pork belly donkatsu. It didn't take too long for our meal to be ready. Our pork belly donkatsu came out first, which it was really good! They offered this unique green spicy sauce that my bf actually liked a lot more. He said it reminded him of salsa lol, but I preferred the original sesame the best. I really liked how they fried up the donkatsu, and added and extra layer of flakes / crunch. I thought since this was pork belly, I thought it would be juicier, but it kind of just tasted like the normal pork. My bf mainly had the cheese donkatsu and this one was really good! I actually liked the cheese one more too. The cheese was very nice and delicious, definitely very heavy too lol. Overall, the meal was pretty good! We loved the home-y vibe to this place, especially since I can tell the mother and father are working hard for this shop.
