I haven't been to Koreatown in a long time so I didn't know this plaza existed with so many food options including Kopan. We made a reservation which is recommended because it gets packed around dinner time on a Saturday night. We got two orders of the chef's special sushi, avocado and cucumber salad, a white fish ceviche, and fried octopus legs. We also got the black cod sushi special and extra orders of the salmon belly sushi. I liked some of the sushi in the chef's special but not all. Some pieces weren't as flavorful and satisfying as others I've tried. The black cod was pretty fishy but we loved the salmon belly. I also loved the spicy cucumber salad which I will now make at home. The other items were okay. They don't have the more traditional Japanese grilled meats and sides so the food was just okay but the service was great! They were very attentive and nice. The dim lighting, seating, and atmosphere made this place perfect for a date.
Always feeling like I'm whisked back to Japan whenever I come to my favorite Izakaya! I've probably been to 5+ Kopan locations, but this Koreatown location (in Madang Plaza) is probably my favorite with their beautiful, traditional Japanese-inspired ambiance, amazing deals, and 4 hour validated parking (which is unheard of in Ktown)! I always have to order their incredibly fresh sashimi, as well as their sushi rolls, which are BOGO 50% off. If you're not a fan of raw fish, they also have yummy udon, ramen, curry, and bento box options, all of which contain generous portions and are well-made! Service is also very nice, communicative, and well-paced, even when the restaurant is very busy. Definitely check them out in Ktown if you're looking for high quality and affordable Japanese cuisine! Amazing service, ambiance, quality of food, speed of delivery, and prices! Get one roll and the next 50% off is such a steal for being in the heart of ktown/madang. Definitely coming back! Ramen is tasty but was a little bit on the bland side imo but it's better than being too salty! Got the yummy roll and the red dragon roll. I liked the yummy roll better bc the garlic pieces on the dragon roll were a little too overpowering.
The 12 piece sushi is very impressive and tasty served on stones. Their mini bowls of toro with uni and unagi bowl was just the right amount and flavorful. Their ramen was creamy and flavorful too. The ambience is upscale and tranquil. They validate for 3 hours of free parking.
I've seen so many videos advertising this place and I decided to give it a try,,,, however I ended up pretty disappointed ... the quality of their fish was extremely low, they smelled pretty fishy and oily, their sushi pieces lacked flavor and their rolls were far from fresh and delicious ... I made a reservation but we got there much earlier and they did have many available tables ,,, the service was fast, however once the foods came , our server never checked on us again and we ended up looking for her for over 20 mins to get the check... the restaurant itself looked very authentic and cozy though.
Stopped here for lunch, wasn't expecting much and didn't look at the menu or anything prior to coming in. The vibe is awesome inside; there's lofi playing at a nice level and the lighting is beautiful. It feels like an elevated experience right when you walk in. We didn't wait long as it was a Sunday afternoon, and our waitress was so helpful in deciding what to order (the menu is extensive!). We got the baked scallop roll, the crunch spider roll, and the Baja California roll. All three were amazing!!!! We also got spicy tuna crispy rice and the gyoza to start. I am not joking when I say they were the best restaurant gyoza I've had in Los Angeles. Juicy, warm, nice golden crisp on the bottom, and flavorful filling. The baked scallop roll was my personal favorite of the three; it was warm and savory, with an excellent bite from the juicy scallops. It was a great contrast to the Baja roll, which is cold and has crunchy elements to it. And the spider roll was one I didn't expect to like (my boyfriend wanted it), but ended up being my second favorite! The soft shell crab flavor is deliciously salty and pairs great with the surrounding flavors. I'll definitely be back for more!

Pros: - validated parking structure since it's located in the madang plaza - cool dim ambiance that gives off the izakaya vibes hence the name - kind workers - promo was going in for bogo 50% drinks - service was attentive Cons: - authenticity I wouldn't expect too highly of it - drinks were overly sweet for me - food on the saltier end Overall good place to hang out with friends
I have mixed feelings about our meal here. I wouldn't go back, but it was nice to experience. They did offer Buy 1 get 1 50% rolls. So for $115, we got 3 rolls, yellowtail jalepno, crispy rice, and a soju 1. The Spicy Diablo Roll is 10/10. it's spicy but it's not unbearable, they put a sort of spicy sauce on top and it has a lot of flavor plus the freshness from the sushi. 2. The crispy tuna rice 0/10, I actually have to send it back for a remake because it was poorly made, and drown in sauce. The rice cakes are very large more like a mini brick so it's hard to even eat it without cutting it in half. But once you cut it or try to bite it half you know it falls apart. 3. We enjoyed the Baja roll as well 4. The Yellowtail Jalapeño, didn't have much of the sauce so it was a bit dry for the thicker pieces of yellow tail.
not sure what happened, but we went on a weekday and the kitchen was backed up even though there were barely any people and honestly the service wasn't the best because i feel like they rarely really ever checked up on us, but the sushi quality was great and everything was delicious. we really enjoyed the presentation of the sushi and it was honestly super cute and the ambiance is nice
My New Favorite Lunch Spot in K-Town! My bestie and I were looking up nearby sushi spots and stumbled across Kopan Izakaya because it was the closest to us and honestly what a lucky find! It's inside a somewhat hidden shopping center in K-Town that has all the goodies like H Mart, Daiso, Beard Papa, and Somi Somi. Kopan is on the 2nd floor right next to Somi Somi (how convenient lol). The aesthetic inside immediately grabbed my attention. From the lovely artwork to the booths we were seated at, the whole place is such a vibe -- cozy, stylish, and definitely picture-worthy. And it only got better from there. The service was outstanding. The two gentlemen servers working were on top of everything. Our server went above and beyond -- super informative, patient with our questions, and so genuinely kind. He was quick, attentive, and had great energy. Even the chef behind the counter said goodbye to us before we left. From beginning to end, it felt incredibly welcoming. I don't really drink, but of course my bestie had to order us a large warm sake after I mentioned that I've never tried it before, and our server made it the cutest moment ever by bringing out a whole tray of tiny shot glasses and letting us choose our own. Such a simple thing, but it made us smile and added to the whole experience. The food stole the show. I ordered the 3-item bento box from their lunch special, and it was totally worth it. I chose the beef bulgogi, golden crunch roll, and takoyaki. It also came with rice, miso soup, and a salad. Everything tasted phenomenal -- fresh, flavorful, and so satisfying. I will absolutely be back for more. If you're in K-Town, do yourself a big favor and check out Kopan Izakaya. Highly recommend!
Fairly new sushi place opened right next to sul beans and somi somi in madang plaza. I'd say food was solid but you can tell it's a new place as they're working out some kinks. The bogo 50% off rolls deal is a good offer right now, though im not sure how long they'll offer it for. They didn't have any menus ready so they had to go fetch it from customers and realized the tables weren't wiped down yet so we also had to wait for them haha. Overall the workers were nice and the ambience was typical date night sushi, more casual vibes. Especially for the convenience of free validated parking, I'd recommend for casual sushi.
Kopan Izakaya is a beautiful spot with a warm and friendly atmosphere! The service is excellent with attentive workers and staff. The food was amazing and the fish was very fresh. I love the buy one get one 50% off deal for any sushi rolls!! My friends and I come back every few weeks and it is amazing every time.

One of the best sushi restaurants I've tried so far. I arrived as a walk in and was quickly seated and served. Their customer service was top notch despite the restaurant being busy. The food was excellent. I ordered a couple rolls, sashimi, and chicken katsu curry. All dishes exceeded my expectations. The drinks were well balanced as well. The restaurant is quite dark and very intimate. Perfect place for a date or if you're looking for something more personal. read more

Looking for a sushi place in KTown and Kopan Izakaya hit the spot perfectly! Love the buy one roll, get second 50% off and our server was helpful in guiding us through the menu. We ordered seaweed salad, shrimp shu mai, Cilantro Salmon Roll, baked Baby Crawfish roll, house Eel & Avocado roll and Truffle Salmon Blue Crab signature dish. Everything was delicious and fresh, but I would've like a bit more unagi in the eel roll. My favorite was the baked baby crawfish. There was plenty for the 2 of us to enjoy. Service was attentive, friendly and quick, maybe because they weren't too busy at 3pm on Sunday. We were seated in a booth and the lighting was low and felt slightly clandestine, which we both liked. This would be great for a business meeting or after work drinks and starters. They validate parking for 2 hours and the 2nd floor location was easy to find. The Bottom Line 3.75 stars: Recommended for Japanese food with Korean flare while shopping at the H Mart Shopping Plaza in central K-Town. Location 3.5 stars: Inside the H Mart Shopping Center, on the West side of Western Blvd, between Wilshire and 6th Street in K-Town. Paid parking structure. You can get at least a portion of the parking fees validated electronically by shopping at H Mart or one the restaurants or stores or the movie theater at the plaza. Possibilities for street parking are very limited if any. Venue 4 stars: Nicely decorated modern venue, with inside and outdoor tables and a sushi bar. Service 4 stars: Staff were polite, courteous and attentive. Food 3.5 stars: Large selection of traditional Japanese food including sushi, sashimi, rolls appetizers, ramen, hot stone and hot pot, along with some Korean staples. We had sushi, sashimi and rolls which were good but a little lacking in flavor. Drinks 4 stars: Beer (bottle and tap), wine, sake, soft drinks, coffee and tea. read more

I always eat ordered food at home or go out for eat. These days difficult make decision to what to eat today. I and my friend decided to eat sushi. Try this place. We bring our dogs so we seated outside. Very clean table and cute floor also cute lighting on the table. We ordered sushi also some small dish. Takoyaki was a bit salt but not too bad. Just ok for everything, nothing special. They training new waiter so a bit slow and they missed our one order. We wish outside table has bell for calling server. We want something have to go inside and ask to server. Plus when you pay, please check the receipt. We were only two people but they charged us an automatic tip for a large group. Even we were togo but also they charged us that. We asking them to why charges for us and they said some mistaken so they give us new receipts. read more

Fantastic izakaya!!! The ambience is so lively and the restaurant is elegant and clean. We came in on a Friday night and were greeted by everyone, it was pretty empty when we came in but we would soon find we got lucky. We came at the perfect time since after that there was a line. The Japanese beer options here are awesome since they have BOTH Suntory and Orion. The food here was delicious it made us wish we had not gone to the place we went to beforehand. The king oyster mushroom app was the standout of the night, go for it and try it. Shishito Peppers were well made and the sushi was yummy and fresh. They have an array of appetizers that go well with your beer. All the servers were friendly and attentive. I just wish it was open later but 11pm is late enough to enjoy your Friday night. Any place in KTown that has a dedicated parking lot or structure that won't make me feel like I'm fighting for my life gets a win from me! The restaurant itself is super cute and I love the way the seating is arranged insides. We were seated at one of the tables you see in as soon as you walk in and it felt like we were in kind of a private room which was nice. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We ordered two specialty sushi rolls, taking advantage of their BOGO 50% deal, spicy garlic edamame, takoyaki, and oysters. We loved every single dish but I have to give a shoutout to the edamame because we literally got distracted mid conversation from how good they were. I was a little skeptical of the oysters but they were so good. If you like briney oysters that are a little sweet towards to end, you'd really like these. The O.M.G roll was definitely our favorite out of the two that we ordered. Overall, it was a great dinner experience and I'm looking forward to going back read more
Came here on a saturday night with a party of two and there was no wait. The ambiance was intimate, cute, and clean. The service was good. We had simple orders but the all the ingredients were very fresh and the presentation was great. I was especially impressed with the cucumber avocado salad, the taste profile was so good for being a simple dish! Would def go back read more

So happy to have this izakaya near me! The laidback ambiance makes me feel like I can eat, drink and hang out here forever, and the BOGO deals are definitely helping with that too. All the fish tasted so fresh! Service was great too, they checked in on us exactly whenever we needed them. read more

Stopped by Madang Mall solo after hearing they have chirashi for lunch. Super welcoming vibe right away the host was friendly and made it really comfortable to dine alone. The chirashi was solid. Thick cuts of sashimi and generous portions, paired really well with the seasoned rice. The udon had a light spicy kick with a slightly creamy finish simple but really satisfying. Ended up trying ginza sushi too, and that was the highlight. Not your typical basic nigiri some premium cuts, lightly torched pieces, and thoughtful toppings. You can tell they put care into each one. Menu looks pretty extensive, so I'd definitely come back for dinner to try more. read more
Found this hidden gem while looking for a Japanese place in Ktown. Izakaya is located in a hidden little shopping center. There are about two or three floors with many diff stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, as well as a Daiso store. The inside is amazing, dark lighting and nice traditional Japanese decorations. Feels like you're actually dining in Japan. We were helped by three different ladies and a young kid who was prob the busser. They were all super friendly and attentive. Kept our table clean all the time, our water cups never empty, and our beer mugs always full. We started off with their fried calamari rings and baked green mussels. The calamari sucked. Real bad. Batter tasted super old. Nope. It's hard to mess up on fried calamari for it is such an easy recipe, hard to mess up right?. But they did here. Big No on the calamari rings don't get them. Also the sauce it comes with not good at all. Nothing special about it. Hard passs. Mussels on the other hand, were good. Super buttery, tasty, and tender. Matter of fact, it was my first time having one and I'm glad it was here because they were really good. We got two orders of those. For our main we ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the baby crawfish roll. Sushi was good, roll/rice was kinda crappy but still edible. Crawfish was cooked perfectly and sauces go well it. 8 out of 10. Now hands down to their ramen! Probably the creamiest ramen I have ever had!! Just wow Classic tonkotsu broth xtra creamy made spicy upon request. It seemed they use traditional buckwheat soba noodles for their ramen. Firm texture and elasticity. Ramen 10/10 for sure. Best ramen I've had in a while. We are definitely coming back. read more

Food & drink 4/5 - Chicken karaage was 4/10. Batter is crunchy and thick. Chicken itself is a bit stringy and dry. Salty but lacks a depth of flavor. - The truffle sushi roll had a prominent truffle flavor (which I enjoyed, but may not be for everyone). Crunch spider roll was a favorite; just a solid classic with soft shell crab (love that an extra piece of crab is included on top of the roll). The fried onions on top of the Tokyo roll were crispy and sweet. Uni was fresh and delicious! I had uni only one time before and had a bad experience (it was incredibly fishy, and now I realize, not fresh). So I was apprehensive at first but I'm glad I gave it a chance because this uni was buttery, smooth, and briny in all the right ways. - Matcha tea was okay, medium profile matcha flavor. Not bad for the value though. Clean and refreshing. -Might be a small thing to point out, but I like how they include lemon slices automatically in the water. I also like the texture of the ice (evenly crushed and almost like a slush). Service 3.5/5 Not too long a wait for the food. Polite and professional waiters. Aesthetic 4.5/5 Traditional izakaya vibe with a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Low lighting inside. Modern layout with traditional Japanese decor. read more
A not too hidden gem in Koreatown LA. We were visiting from out of town and wanted a fresh, light bite. Noticed a traditional looking spot next to a bingsoo place and decided to pop in. Menu was so extensive with lots to choose from, not that my friend and I were picky eaters of any sorts, but having a variety was nice. We dined in, ordered a handful of rolls and the much needed takoyaki. The restaurant wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon but to be fair, the whole ktown was rather empty as well. Felt like eating at an izakaya joint in Japan with the Japanese decor inside. Surprised it wasn't crowded Sunday lunch time. Lots of options in the menu, but surprised there's no agedashi tofu. Great to see BOGO rolls even during the weekend, nice deal. Food came out quickly. Will be back to try more. read more
Came here as I was passing by koreatown and craved sushi. Saw they had Bento meals here. Got the 3 item Bento with rice, miso soup and salad. For $21 you cant go wrong. Server was prompt with service and nice. Overall enjoyable. Only thing is the parking. They have 1 hour parking and a parking structure available. read more

I've walked by this sushi place for years but never tried it until now. I've been missing out! Kopan really surprised me and delivered some of the best sushi I've had in a while. Fish was fresh, as it should be, and the rolls were well balanced in flavor, not drenched in sauce to mask anything. It's a good choice if you're going with people who don't like raw fish. They have cooked rolls as well as ramen and izakaya snacks. Great value too-they even have a large selection of specialty rolls that are BOGO 50% off. Would recommend reservations as it was pretty busy even on a Wednesday night. read more
We wanted to go to another restaurant, but the line was way too long; so we decided to walk around. We stumbled up on this place nearby. I've been to Kopan ramen before, but never their izakayas before. The menu is very similar, but the interior seems nicer. Fried baby Octopus (4/5): Not as juicy as I hoped and portion was small, but it was an excellent appetizer. The mayo dipping sauce complemented well. Negitoro Donburi (5/5): This dish comes with rice as the base with negitoro (minced tuna) and Ini on top. I thought this was a great dish if you were craving sushi on a budget. It also comes with two pieces of uni and nori. You can use the nori to create a handroll and uni is a delicacy, so that is already good value. The tuna and uni were very fresh for that price. BSCR (5/5): BSCR stands for Baked Scallop California roll. I really liked this dish to share because it has so many pieces of bay scallops for everybody to share. King Salmon Roll (5/5): This sushi rolled is topped with tempura salmon. I thought it was a great dish to share with people who do not eat raw fish Katsu Curry (5/5): This dish comes in a hot stone bowl. The katsu was a bit dry, but that's okay because the curry made it juicy. I thought the dish was very comforting and pleasing to look at. Overall, I thought this place was a hit and it has so many options with great quality at an affordable place. read more
Such a cute spot in hidden shopping center with a Daiso and H mart. The izakaya is great for a date or small group with outside booths that easily fit up to 12. The menu is typical with small plate options. We tried gyoza, takoyaki, dynamite, some sushi rolls and negitoro don buri with a delicious scoop of uni. I wasn't drinking but they hav inexpensive cocktails, beer, and non alcoholic drinks. Service was prompt and attentive. This is a great pre show dinner option if you're going to the wiltern. read more

Super good!!! I was surprised by how many dishes there until I realized it is like an izakaya style restaurant and not the typical Kopan ramen! I greatly appreciated the big pictures on the menu as that helps me see how appetizing each dish was and get an idea what I'd enjoy. It is dark, romantic date night vibes for sure in a busy plaza lol. We came in under dressed but was hungry. Ended up selecting their rice-free roll options - protein roll and naked roll. Both super tasty and fresh. The soy mustard sauce was great kick the tasty fattiness from the fish. Their pork based broth was also smooth and hearty. Not too salty, just right. I even took leftover broth home to use later haha. Overall, we are definitely coming back to try more of their menu! read more
It's not just typical izakaya. The sushi quality is good enough to compare with omakase at a specialized sushi restaurant. Best of all, the prices are fantastic. If you want to enjoy sushi in a private setting, I highly recommend this place. read more

Place was packed Friday night and people are waiting outside to be seated. Sushi roll was good and reasonable prices. They offer buy one get other 50% off. They're quick to serve you the food you ordered. Clean and nice place to have sushi or ramen . I recommend this place to check it out read more
