Paulo is very professional, thorough and very knowledgeable. I had all four brakes changed in a timely fashion.

I do not recommend this shop. I brought in my car in to be diagnosed for a loose rattling noise from the rear and was charged $460 and the problem was not repaired. While it was there for that first issue I was also told the car had a rear axle bearing that had "excessive wear" and needed to be replaced asap for $1200. I called back after picking up my car and informed them the car sounded worse. They offered no explanation or information. Instead of taking the car back I took this car to a trusted shop in the North Bay for a second opinion. Not only did they disassemble my rear brakes, adjust the E brake, grease all moving parts for $80 (fixing the issue) they informed me that the rear axle bearing did not have any play and or wear and needed no repair. read more

Paulo at Benicia Motorworks is phenomenal. I called for a quote regarding my Volkswagen Tiguan making a grinding noise. I work in the automotive industry and a couple of the guys at my job said it's my rear brakes. When I called, Paulo was kind and informative. He let me know it probably my brakes but would like to do an inspection to make sure. He also said there are different sizes for the brakes on my vehicle and wouldn't know an exact number until he was able to check my car out. I was at work at the time and the guys at work who heard the grinding noise said it was not safe to be driving, especially because I have two young children. Paulo was able to get me in the next day. It was actually his day off but came in so he could take a look at my Tiguan. He was able to complete the repairs that same day! He quoted me around $600 give or take and it came out to just above $600 before taxes and fees. I'm really happy I found Benicia Motorworks(thanks to Yelp!) because my car is safe again, I have peace of mind, and a new wonderful shop to take my car for repairs or general maintenance. Unfortunately for my boyfriend, he was having multiple issues with his 2011 BMW 535i xDrive - from every light on the dashboard lit up, to loss of power steering and ultimately breaking down. Amazing service! Brought my car in to the dealer for an oil change (bought a package) they recommended I advised I needed new brakes. First oil change, dealer advised rear and front. Second oil change, advised needed rear. Finally able to get second opinion and called Benicia Motor Works. They got me in the very next next morning. Paolo advised no breaks were need, he checked fluids for me and said he only recommends my next oil change in 1100 miles saving me what the dealer quoted, over $1300. These guys are amazing!! I recently took in my 2018 BMW M2 for an oil and differential fluid service and I received top-notch customer service! I'm very excited to know that I have a local BMW service facility with a technician who previously worked on my cars when I took them to the BMW dealership in Berkeley. Paolo (the owner) is super friendly and made sure that the work was completed on time and correctly. They even helped me with getting a new set of rotors on my car that had been sitting in my dining room for a few months. I will absolutely be returning for future services--and would also recommend that any other BMW owners who are outside of their service and maintenance warranty period consider going here rather than continuing to patronize the dealership (at much greater expense). So, after paying Paulo 1,000 for a "very very thorough" diagnostic (to decide if I should trash my vehicle), he found that my transmission harness needed replacing, so I had him fix it. The part was around $800 and my grand total including labor and the diagnostic was $3,000. A bit expensive, but thought it would be in tip top shape.... then... Boom! Engine light, abs, and tire light on within 20 miles. Said he would look at it again, and he kept making weird excuses like, "The code never showed up when I ran it", and "The guys before really must have messed it up." He had my car for over a month, and took no responsibility. I don't want a guy I don't trust touching my vehicle anymore, so I'm bringing my car and money elsewhere. ("B" down by the 711.. great guy) !!!*****The funniest and most petty part of it all is that he said he put $45 of gas in my car when he test drove it, and he even ran a separate $45 charge on top of the $3,000 to my visa card. I got in my vehicle and there was slightly less than half a tank! What?! That means that he either drove my car 200miles (no), or he was blowing smoke up my butt (yup). I didn't even confront him about the gas because I was embarrassed for him. Ridiculous and sad. He's lucky I'm a peaceful guy. Real lucky. So conclusion: Lots of expensive smoke for your butt at this place! read more

When I lived in SF I had a great BMW mechanic, and now it seems I've found his equal in the East Bay! Last year I bought a used 2012 BMW 328i with every tech package available from a reputable 3rd party reseller, where the car had gone through a full diagnostic exam. Although the car has been running well it was getting time for its scheduled service, and this is where I feel very lucky to have found Paolo's shop. I reached out via text message and he was very prompt, patient, and friendly in his communications. He took time out of his evening, after closing hours, to run a full computer diagnostic, during which he found countless electrical errors, a problem with the battery, and worn out brakes. He gave me an on the spot estimate which I agreed to. The next day he emailed me a full report of the diagnostic result, every error code and what it indicated, as well as his own analysis of what needed to be done. The report contained a detailed estimate, and after the work was done the same day, that's exactly the price I paid. He also showed me the updated computer scan showing all the error codes were gone. The car came back freshly cleaned inside and out and running like a champ. A week later Paulo proactively reached out to me and offered to do another full computer diagnostic to make sure nothing had resurfaced since he completed the work (it hadn't). So to summarize - great customer service, quality workmanship, and fair pricing. Can't beat that! read more

Paolo and Scott are excellent. I had some work done (at least I thought I did) at Concord BMW, turns out Paolo was able to confirm that what BMW said they were going to do didn't actually happen. They said they changed the oil and filter and filled my urea tanks for my diesel, turns out none of that was even done. My oil level was low, the drain plug was untouched and the urea tank was only at 17%. Paolo added almost 5 gallons. Crazy, and angering. The main reason I was actually in there was because of an ABS/stability sensor malfunction. When I was at Concord BMW, they changed some bushings, and while the XDrive was taken apart, they never attached the ABS sensors back to the grommets that hold them in place, so when I turned the wheels, it pinched the wires, causing them to rub and fail. Over $2,000 spent at Concord BMW, and they made my car worse with their sloppy and incomplete work. Paolo and Scott fixed everything and recommended future service, but never forced anything on me. In this day and age, it's good to know there are still honest mechanics out there. Paolo will have my business as long as I have my car. I highly recommend him and Scott. read more

Okay where do I start.... BMWs are not cheap to run, you get what you pay for in life, so parts and labour will not be cheap on these cars. I knew this before buying my car, and I love my BMW... My car just died on me on the way home a few days ago, turns out the alternator Was bad. Called Paulo, the next day he drove to my house and picked me and drop me to my train... Picked up a used BMW 740il and brought it in for a water leak diagnosis. I couldnt find the exact location but suspected the valley pan. Sure enough it was indeed the valley pan which is an easy but pain to get to job. Paulo was also able to diagnose a few more things for me and then some. He went above and beyond to point out things that needed to be done ASAP as well as things that could wait. There was no pressure for the repairs to happen and they could have had my vehicle done in about 2 days but I decided to get rid of this car and not deal with all its issues.
