This review is long overdue. I do not provide many Yelp reviews. Service must be outstanding, or the opposite, for me to write one. Since I have been going to Vallejo Car Care Clinic for maybe four years, primarily for a 2001 BMW CI, and I have always been pleased with their customer service, this car shop (Gil, in particular) needs a long-deserved shout-out. Gil is super attentive and very honest. Less than a week ago, I took my son's car to Gil. It is a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid that needed a catalytic converter. Rather than take the job, which costs a decent amount of money, Gil asked me, considering the age and mileage of the car, if we really wanted to proceed with the repair. He said the Honda has two catalytic converters and, while the second unit did not register as defective, there is a good chance it will soon. So, we decided against fixing it. In my book, that is a remarkable trait for an auto shop owner to possess. He will not say what the customer wants to hear, like how soon the car will be ready, just to get their business. When he says the car will be ready at a certain time, it usually is. In fact, I do not remember him ever missing a completion date/time. read more

I took a chance & took my "baby" to VCCC & they not only assessed the repairs needed but gave me pricing options on OEM parts vs manufacturer parts depending on if I planned to keep the car. This place is the best. Gil is absolutely excellent. I had a problem with my 2000 Jaguar. It was stuck in park. Every place I called said my transmission have went out. Talking thousands of dollars. I called Gil explained to him what I was experiencing, he said sounds like the gear box and or gear cable, but have it towed in and he'll take a look at it. AAA wasn't versed on towing it because it was stuck in park. Gil instructed me on how to advise AAA to load it on the flatbed (AAA's job right). Anyway got it there and his diagnosis was spot on. He fixed it right away and I was back on the road again. No extra charges or inflation on work or prices. I was totally clueless! He could have taken full advantage of the situation!!! I recently purchased a S2000 that had some work performed by this shop. They adjust the valves on it 7000 miles ago and they were adjusted way too tight. I have worked on these cars for for many years and know them in great detail. Spec should be .010-.011 Exhaust and .008-.010 Intake. I checked all and they were close to .006 after 7000 miles! They do tighten over time but more like 40-50k miles. I am chasing down an issue and this service may have caused the engine to burn a valve. read more

I've been going here for a few years and should have posted here a long time ago... As a woman, I am always on edge when I take my car in to get it repaired because I always feel like I'm walking in with a big dollar sign on my face, especially when I had my elder Ford Escort. "Let's welcome our next victim...try to throw in some other services so we have can have Christmas bonuses early!" Anyway, this place is pretty good and they call you and give you a rundown of what they're going to do before they do it. Then if there is something you need done, they tell you but they also tell you if you can hold off for a little while for those of us who are cash-strapped. If there is something that you really, really need done, they will explain what and why. There is no big surprise when you go to pay the final cost...it's pretty close to what they quote, sometimes a couple of dollars less. If you need to drop off your car after hours, they have a drop box so you fill out a form explaining what is wrong (or think is wrong) with your car and put your keys in. Works for someone like me who tries to go into the office at 6am and can pick up the car after work. I tell everyone I know who lives in the area to go to VCCC. The only issue I have with the shop is that they are not open on Saturdays but oh well, it's worth it if in the end you get great service. read more

When i first got there i asked him to see what was wrong with my car because i had just gotten a battery put in it but it wouldnt start. He charges me a $120 diagnostic fee (which was fine) but couldnt tell me what the knocking noise was in my engine when i came to pick it up after he fixed my starter. I literally drive about 2-3 miles and my car crapped out on me. When he got there he tells me he did his job its starting. Mind you, it made a terrible noise and never turned over he sat there and argued me down as if he was proud of the work he did. Finally he called a tow truck and had it towed. He kept my car for a whole entire day i call to see an update and he is clueless so i had to tell him to just tow it to the dealership. I paid $120 for a diagnostic and he couldnt diagnose the problem. Im assuming he didnt have the machine to hook it up because technically thats apart of a diagnostic but yet he told me it wasnt like im an idiot. He said his diagnostic included him fumbling around and checking a few things under my hood! The only good thing that came out of the situation was a tow to the dealership in which they are currently fixing the problem. $648 is what i gave him to not even make it past 3 miles. read more

Driving back to Berkeley, from Sacramento, I pulled off by Marine Wold for gas. By the time I hit the end of the off-ramp, my car just stopped, A horrible metal scraping sound, then boom. car wouldn't move. I sat in that intersection for close to 45 minutes. I didn't have anyone to call for advice. Thankfully the nice tow truck driver mentioned a couple of shops in the vicinity. My car, my two chihuahuas, and I were towed to Vallejo Car Clinic. I am a widow, and just find automotive problems so perplexing. I am a bit paranoid about men taking advantage of women's under-education in automotive science. Honestly, I felt totally confident from the git about the staff at Vallejo Car Clinic. Their shop was so clean, It was obvious these folks cared about their craft and business. Though I was expecting a HUGE repair bill . I knew I wouldn't be able to pay; as well as having a car that was only worth $1,500 to begin with. OK my truck broke down and I need it always ASAP right? For work. Checked YELP for a local mechanic. I emailed Gil and he emailed me back. I got the truck in VIA my Benicia Tow trucking and GIL diagnosed my truck, called me right away and I gave the OK. It needed a fuel pump and a tune up. He drained the tank, removed the gas tank ordered and replaced the pump, pulled the filter, changed the spark plugs, changed the rotor and the PVC and more and it was ready the next day. REALLY? YES!!! Did I want to pay the charge? NO! But it was fair and I was up and running the next day. Would I go back? Of course, They are my mechanics now. Thanks guys. read more
