Hagin's Automotive is that dream automotive shop that you hope you'll find, and even when you do, you remain suspicious because it seems too good to be true. I started using Hagin's at least 20 years ago and have never regrets a single service. My kids are raised and all now use Hagin's. The ownership changed a few years ago, but the new owner, JC, has kept the same spirit and quality. I trust this shop so much that I rarely ask how much, I start with when do you have time. I know whatever the final bill is, it will be fair and include all necessary work with no extras. If something is borderline needed, they will explain it to me and let me decide. My only hesitation in recommending them is bringing enough new people to their shop that I can no longer get a quick appointment. I guess I will risk it. Things changed for the worse at Hagin's Automotive when Andy Hagin sold the shop to JC Childress several years ago. In 2025 I spent thousands of dollars on a head gasket replacement for my Subaru Forester (2003 model with only 82K miles) and it failed within a few months, causing problems that made the car undrivable without investing thousands more for repairs. JC tried to shift blame and refused to take any responsibility. I shouldn't have let him touch the car after he failed to properly connect a spark plug wire (check engine light, tow). I'm left thinking JC is an inferior mechanic who doesn't care about customer service or about responsibility. When it comes to the "new" Hagin's now in the hands of JC Childress, buyer beware! read more

This is Walt from Walt's Adventures and I'm here in Hagin's Automotive in Martinez, California. Adventuring across California both enriches my life but also puts a strain on my Prius. The Prius has a defect... after 120,000 miles or so, the Head Gasket ( important separation wall in the engine) fails. Hagin has experience in replacing the gasket, completed the repairs within a week and under the proposed repair amount! This automotive hospital, naturally, tests vehicles before returning them. Unlike many others, they chose to complete their tests before returning my car. This shows me that green is not the most important aspect to them but satisfaction. Let me start off by saying I'm a first time customer at Hagin's Automotive. I was treated exceptionally by Robert and CJ for my contacts and repairs of my car. I brought it in for a cooling system steam leak and they found the radiator cracked and leaking coolant. During the overall inspection of the vehicle I also had rear brakes that had very little pad left. I had them do both repairs and they were done before day end. I highly recommend this automotive service center and will definitely come back in the future. These guys are really good at what they do and know cars! I've gone 3 different times to get my AC fixed and it works for 2 days then it stops working again! Would not recommend.

I brought my car in for an oil change. They called back in the afternoon and said my brakes were down to less than 3mm, and needed to be replaced. When I got back to pick up my car, I asked them to give me a bid on the brake job. They quoted $669:to replace front pads and turn the rotors. I called a nearby Toyota service department, and they quoted me $430 for that work. I then dropped my car off at Les Schwab and asked them for a quote. They told me the brakes had 6mm left on them, and did not need to be replaced. I will never go there again. read more

Instead, they try to explain what's going on so you can make an informed decision rather than making you feel stupid. Moreover, Hagin's is extremely accommodating when it comes to scheduling. Long time customer. This was a great shop when Andy Hagin owned it, although it always was a little pricey. Since he sold it they seemed to have had a complete turnover of staff, and they seem less friendly and concentrating on upselling. I took the car in for an oil change and they told me that I needed to have the transmission fluid changed. To be fair, the Mazda dealer in Concord told me the same thing. But after they did I checked with Mazda Corporation and they said that the transmission fluid never needed to be replaced and in fact you should avoid it if at all possible. Hagin's is no less expense than the dealership, and they will not work on your car if it involves an aftermarket warranty claim. read more

I wasn't going to do a review, just cut my losses and never go back---BUT, I can't ignore this...as a first-time customer, I took my 4-cylinder car in for an oil change and new spark plugs. Before they even started on my oil change, they called to say my serpentine belt was "dangerously cracked" and my transmission fluid was "filthy". I told them to do the oil & plugs and leave it at that. Over $350 for synthetic oil and 4 spark plugs, which I thought was excessive. Ok, pay up and never go back. BUT---while I was there, they opted to fill my tires---all 4 of them to 40psi! On my little car! It clearly states on the tire "never inflate beyond 40psi" and the recommended pressure is 33psi, typed on the driver's side door sill along with the other specs. I had noticed the rougher ride and while preparing for a road trip a few days after service, we checked tire pressure and were beyond shocked. This could have been a dangerous situation due to a mechanic's a) carelessness. B) lack of knowledge, or c) intentional miss-fill of tires. Hagin's is a convenient location but I'll go back to my favorite, trustworthy mechanic in Walnut Creek from now on. read more

Unfortently I never had a chance to get my vehicle into this shop. I made an online appointment. I asked if they can do work that would be covered under my extended warranty. I also asked if they could program a key for me. The next day a get an email that simply says "appointment canceled". No reason givin. No simple reply of no I'm sorry we don't deal with extended warranty's. Nothing about the key. I've been an automotive technician for 27 years. This was very unprofessional. If you're looking for a trustworthy and honest automotive repair company go to Hagins! Took my car there to get a second opinion about the repairs I needed done. I am very pleased I did! My car is a 2016 the previous automotive repair company told me I needed a new catalytic converter. When Hagins looked at it they said it needed a catalytic converter and the rear end needs to be replaced. So thankful for their honesty. On 7/12/23, I got a quote from Hagin's for front brake replacement and brake fluid exchange. I brought my car in on 8/22/23 to have the work done. Upon payment, I noted that I was charged $166 less than quoted. I voiced this and was told by Robert that he took care of me by giving me a $50 discount (the $50 was already part of the original quote). In reviewing my invoice, it stated that they recommend having the brake fluid exchange done. This explains the price discrepancy. I was surprised that this was not done and called Robert the next day.. He then apologized and told me that the brake fluid exchange machine was broken but that they did manually changed the brake fluid and did not charge me for this work. This was puzzling especially when the invoice recommend that I have this done in the future. The whole incident made me question as to whether the brake fluid exchange was really done. Why did Robert not explain the invoice discrepancy when I picked up my care and why was I not charged for legitimate work?? I ended up going back to have Robert correct the invoice. Needless to say, my husband and I will no longer be returning to Hagin's. We trusted and felt taken care of by the original owner, Andy. Since this incident, I question what I'm told. read more

Ran over a cone on a Monday and these folks were nice and kind enough to lift the car up for me near closing time to inspect for damage and make sure i could keep driving it without fear of making things worse (otherwise park it and wait till Saturday when i'm off work to jack it up and inspect it myself in a parking lot). I called Hagen's to get a quote to service the front brakes of my SUV. I was quoted $550 for turning the rotors and replacing the pads. I let them know that I thought that was rather high and I had gotten a quote from the dealership for $440. Rather than work with me or explain why the price difference, the gentleman on the phone told me "Maybe you should take it to the dealer then." Needless to say, I didn't take my car here. Maybe at some point I will consider it, but for this service I am going elsewhere. read more

While it is always best to call for an appointment, things happen. Went over a curb and damaged the car's plastic under guard which started dragging on the ground. Far away from my SF mechanic I checked to see who was close that might be able to assist and I was fortunate enough to be near Hagin's Automotive. Andy picked up the phone and told me I could bring my car by and he would help. They had my car up and secured what was left of the under guard in record time at a more than fair price. I was looking for a decent auto shop for routine maintenance after my warranty ran out on my certified pre-owned sienna. I've had frustrating experiences as a young woman with dealership service departments before (a Toyota employee once tried to "explain" what the word warranty meant when I insisted my service was covered. He had the wrong owner history pulled up. He didn't apologize.) and I had pretty much accepted it as a fact of car ownership. My folks sent me here and it was shocking how painless it was. Rescheduled my appointment via email without a hitch, and Robert stayed open longer on a Friday for me to come get my car so I wouldn't have to wait till Monday. My daily driver needed some $1,300 love. She's a good truck so it's an investment in a prolonged future and nothing that was a surprise at 187k miles. I know a lot about cars and I appreciate an honest shop that respects women. I found the team to be transparent in a detailed assessment of my new to them truck and they were willing to be very communicative as I walked thru my questions as I assessed what could be delayed. I didn't feel like I was pushed into any random service upgrades. I mentioned it had not had a tuneup in 2-Years, they checked wires etc. and validated no need. I opted for all services except the battery which they gave me a detailed rating on its state related to startup...I let them do the Engine Air filter for convenience (because I could have done that ). And as with anything Trust but verify...they quoted by the book as confirmed by my out of area car professional. So I will be making this my long term auto maintenance stop! Moving my parents from Monterey to Walnuy Creek and was told (by family) to have their vehicle towed here for an overhaul service. When I called this establishment to let them know the vehicle would be delivered, the "owner" became very irritated and was extremely rude with my call. He repeatedly said this "arrangement ' was made with his mechanic, told me this is "HIS" shop and that I would need to make an appointment. Very rude! When asked if I could have the vehicle stored there until they had an appointment, I was told "No, absolutely not!". WTF!?!? Not a good way to conduct business, especially as a new customer. I'm pretty sure the reason this place is even open is because.of "CUSTOMERS!"
